MB has stated in the past that they'll never do Survivor in a cold clime because cold renders the participants inactive. He contends they would spend too much time just attempting to keep warm thus cutting down on time to plot, scheme, etc. (not to mention the lack of skin). Still, they could compromise. Go to a deserted island off the coast of Scotland in the summer. They'd get loads of rain and unpredictable weather but there'd be plenty of daylight. Physical contests would be challenging to plan but they could toss cabers and things like that. It could work and would be a nice change from all the tropical beach stuff.

However, it'll never happen. No skin...no ratings...no show.

I really like NutJob's idea. Alcatraz could be one really Practical location for Survivor. It would fit in with a thematic location. Could be really interesting.
LexsCat
Survivor: Alcatraz is such an awesome idea that I immediately started thinking about the logistics . . . but they'd probably lose the 'survivor' aspect because it's a park, and so no eating the wildlife, and they'd have to pay off not only the park to close, but the ferry services that would lose all of their tourist income for that time period, etc. Too bad. I'd totally watch that.

Forgive me anyone from this area....

Survivor: East St. Louis. If the pollution doesn't get you, the gangs will. Talk about the survivor element. Winner gets $1,000,000 and a guarantee of getting home safely. The rest are on thier own.
Irishwyrm
Skycatcher, didn't they already try Survivor:Lax...I think it was on the last season of The Amazing Race...
Skycatcher
Irishwyrm - could be. One of my NY Resolutions is to watch this "Amazing Race" to see what all the fuss is about.
AussieGirl
Survivor Lax - still laughing at that one! I know you mean LA International Airport, but for me it conjured up thoughts of laxatives!
AlmondEyes
Notwithstanding the difficulties of a cold weather location, I'd love to see Survivor: The Ross Ice Shelf. 16 Survivors stranded on a block of ice the size of France. Hilarity ensues when said ice shelf breaks apart.

Now, that would be fun to watch!
vailfiregirl
Nah, Survivor: The Ross Ice Shelf would never work... everyone would have WAY too much clothing on!
surfgirl
I'd like to see Survivor: Lake Hovsgal, Mongolia. This place has Siberian winter conditions, a rock frozen lake that the local indigenous people ice fish in (if you can figure out how to crack a hole in 5 ft. thick ice!), horses to ride around on and the occassional wildlife to eat. OR, just leave them on the Steppes of Mongolia, with the makings of a ger and let them figure out how to make shelter and eat with nothing but grass plains all around them...I would enjoy that setting! Or how about Nepal, stick them in the Mustang region, let them try to figure out how the locals survive there. Do it in the summer and see if they can figure out how to get down steep ravines to fish and fetch water. I'm tired of the tropical island paradise thing, its getting old.

Also, as a former Peace Corps volunteer, I would really enjoy a Survivor cast that was made up of people who have extensive camping/outdoorsman experience, not a bunch of the usual dumbass imbiciles who get pissed off at the guy who wants to make fire and shelter first...that always annoys the hell outta me!
AlmondEyes
Yes, it only took forever for me to see and fix this double post - sorry.
AlmondEyes
Vailfiregirl, that would be the down side - no opportunities for, say, Lil Rhino (or Lil anyone) sightings. But for pure sadistic purposes, I'd love it. And the cold environment could bring all of those hinted-at romances out in the open, as people pair off and snuggle in a vain attempt to remain warm. Heh.
Skycatcher
But with everyone bundled up like Eskimos, how would you be able to tell the difference between the players. Heck, someone like Rudy might just find himself in a little ho-yay without even knowing it! "Ooops, sorry. I thought you were....."
Heh - Arctic transvestites, film at 11!
Quill
Somewhere in the Northern Sahara, prehaps? Maybe on the coast of Tunisia or Morcocco....

I heard that TPTB were staking out Southern Mexico, near old Aztec ruins for Survivor 7 but chose the Pearl Islands instead. Is there any rumors as to where S9 will be?

I wouldn't mind seeing it in Southern Mexico. I hear there is some beautiful stuff down there.
SugarcultAddict
Survivor my brothers apartment, hazerdous conditions, rough terrain, bitchy landlord, and a swamp of unidenified liquid that he dare call a pool. They can hold Tribal council at my house lol

Now seriously Southern Mexico would be great, what about Iceland though, there are a lot of places they could film up there probably.
surfgirl
Survivor: Harlem? Or Survivor: Bronx?
pretty in pinki
Because I'm from the Northwest:

Survivor: San Juan Islands. The scenery is awesome and there's a lot of remote islands. Food wouln't be hard to come by either.

Survivor: Pike Street Maket. Trying to deal with the crowds is very very bad.

Survivor: Goble, OR. No one has heard of the place unless they live in or around it. Lots of woods and they could have tribal council in a barn with the goats!

I still think Mexico, especially the southern part, would be a fun place to have it.
SttrayCat
The thread says what locations are next but I've read the posts and they don't seem spoilerish so I'm putting this in the black to be safe. There are strong rumors or even spoilers (depending on if you believe them or not) that Survivor 9 may be shot on Fiji in the south Pacific.
jennblevins
Survivor San Juans ... now that would be cool.
benthorot
Survivor Mongolia. Desert, bizzarre, and historic. Plus, way too far away to get any spies (ie Australia)
PoliVamp
India, Greece, Mexico, Fiji, New Zealand, Mongolia, Alaska, and Madagascar are all good choices, but why not Egypt? or Sri Lanka? or Micronesia?

There are PLENTY of places to hold it (and still get gratuitous skin shots). But I think that the next one will be

Borneo is near Australia
Australia was second
Africa was third is way far away
Marquesas was fourth and is near ???? (I couldn't get that on any web search)
Thailand is also in the same area as Borneo/Australia
The Amazon is way far away
PI are north of Amazon

Every 3rd season, they go somewhere far away from where recent ones have been (in this case, South America). I'm thinking another Asian one.
jcpdiesel21
I would like the next Survivor to be on any place other than a beach. The beach scene has gotten tired and it's been done lots of times before.
tvgoddess
Yeah, but MB wouldn't give that up for anything. He knows everyone tunes in to see the bikini shots.
surfgirl
I vote for Survivor Afganistan. Or Survivor South Pole. What about Patagonia? That's pretty desolate!
Thomas Newman
How bout the moon. Or a cave deep underground where they see almost no light thier entire stay. Mammoth Caves, Kentucky perhaps.
Putli Bai
Or a cave deep underground where they see almost no light thier entire stay. Mammoth Caves, Kentucky perhaps.

That's actually a pretty cool idea. There was a study a while back, where they sealed a woman into a cave out west. She was kept supplied with everything she needed (food, books, etc), but wasn't given access to a clock or any way of tracking the time. It was a test to see how human circadian rhythms work.

Imagine that shifted to Survivor -- holding challenges and tribal councils at random with people who don't know how much time has passed.

Except now that I reread it, it almost sounds like something you'd do to someone to get them to spill the plans on the next wave of the invasion or new lasar death ray.

And MB would still have people lined up around the block, begging to participate.
SeannyBoy

Shit, I'd do it.

I personally like my haunted house idea, though.

According to this article on SurvivorNews.net, plans were made to do the All Star game in Palau, an island nation 800 miles from Guam. The main reason that didn't happen was production delays on Pearl Islands that forced the repeat location. But it looks like Palau is still in the running for a season of Survivor.
Mama Tiger
Palau is one of the truly spectacular places in the Western Pacific, according to Papa Tiger who's been there (and says the diving there is second to none) -- heck, even my dad waxed rhapsodic over it, and he was there in 1945 right after WWII ended, when he was in charge of a company sitting guard over 10,000 cases of beer in Palau. Tropical paradise AND all the beer you can drink, no wonder he remembered it so fondly! :-)

But that would be a great place -- lots of small unpopulated islands, beautiful seas. If they go for another tropical paradise, they couldn't pick a lovelier one.
jcpdiesel21
I thought Palau was where they filmed the first season. Or is it just a similar name? All of these beachy places just run together in my mind.
renila
Well, they've officially gone off for pre-production for the next two seasons back to back (I have a VERY tangential connection to someone on the show, and that's all I know).

Can't wait to start hearing spoilage from you all...
SnarkyScott67
If they do Survivor Paris, I'm be there with my famewhore game on, ready to do battle with aspiring actors/singers (well, bartenders and temps in their day jobs)!
LawyerJ
How about Survivor Himalayas...trekking country, not the real high ground...altitude would be a challenge . . . at the right time of year, still warm enough for skin shots...and instead of gratuitous footage of snails and snakes, we get mountain vistas and yaks.

Or Survivor Alaska...bears!
sparky20
I used to live near Palau, and it truly is a beautiful place. The main island is reasonably populated, but it is surrounded by hundreds of secluded "rock islands" that can be car-sized to a hundred yards wide. I think this would be a great, unique setting for Survivor. It's in the western Pacific and is not to be confused with Pulau Tiga, which is in Borneo I believe?

Like another poster said, the diving is world-famous -- lots of shipwrecks and coral reefs. The only downside I can see is that besides the rock islands, it has that generic tropical look that will seem just like Borneo, Marquesas, Thailand, Pearl Islands, etc. How many beach and palm tree shots can one person need?
Spy Chadwick
Apparently, S4 was going to be in Jordan, but then 9/11 happened... Maybe that idea could be re-visited.

Personally, I would like to see Survivor: India. That would be awesome. Rajasthan in particular - the heat, the desert. Fab. A cool climate would be great, too; however, we all know that won't happen, because the women wouldn't be able to wear bikinis. Still, the Canadian Rockies, Patagonia or the Cuchumatanes in Guatemala would be ideal (and idyllic) spots.
govtdrone
They should have it in either one of these places:

1.Try to survive on the streets of New Orleans by having to be street entertainers in the French Quarter. One of the challenges could be "How far can you though the beads?" or "Who is the prettier drag queen?" or "Show us your ****!"

2. "Cajun Survivior" says it all.
SVNBob
Well, we'll find out Thursday for sure about S9.
Cipriani
Has "Survivor: Iceland" been suggested yet?

In my opinion, Iceland would be a great place for a season. The season's gimmik could be Vikings or something.

That was Pulau Tiga, which for some reason they referred to as "Borneo" all through S8. I mean, I'm sure Borneo is accurate, but all through the first season it was referred to as Pulau Tiga, so calling it Borneo now was confusing.

Oh, and I *love* the idea of Survivor: Antarctica.
broken site
I have been reading on the boards about different locations as possibilities for the next Survivor. Fiji was one of them. I am going to Fiji June 6th. Does anyone know when production starts and/or ends?
Bix Bender
The cat's out of the bag now. And given the way they played up the history of cannibalism in that preview, next season's gross food challenge should be interesting....
Miss Alli
Don't be thrown -- I'm going to change the title of this thread, because it rattles my teeth every time I look at it. It just feels to me like only one location can be "next."
Corbinxxa84
I actually like Survivor: Vanuatu - Islands of Fire.

If they play up the cannibalism, black magic, dead controlling the living, and the volcanoes, they might have a pretty awesome concept. I like the darker tone that the logo suggests, too.
jennblevins
I like the way the name sounds and the way the new logo looks. However the preview with the social studies lesson did nothing to inerest me and in fact made me think, "Great, islands, people, volcanos, whatever, do we really have to keep tromping all over other cultures?" However, the scenery was pretty.

I do think I'll have trouble not calling it Survivor: Voodoo, what with the name and the dead people and the magic, even though now I'm starting to sound like TAR4 Millie.
LostinSpace
It's interesting that with the announcement last night of Survivor: Vanuatu for S9, Survivor will have had three tropical beach locations in a row. Up until Pearl Islands, they've been alternating tropical beach and inland locations.

Thus, unless MB has decided to stick with the beach for future seasons (highly doubtful), I'm betting that S10 will be another trip to Africa in a region on the fringe of the Sahara Desert.

As much as I'd like a cold-weather location like northern Canada or Siberia, that's not going to happen. MB must have his bare skin.
Max_Castle
I'm wondering why they've never done a Mediteranian location. A Greek island could be a neat location - they could play up the mythological and classic cultural aspects. I don't know offhand how these locations compare to the others in terms of fishing and general food availability, but people have been living there for thousands of years, so there must be something to eat. Couldn't be any worse than Africa at any rate.
Ipstenu
I thought only Australia and Africa were inland Survivors. And the Greeks probably won't let MB anywhere near them. I don't think the islands are isolated enough to prevent people from spying.
LostinSpace
Ipstenu, I counted Amazon as inland ,too.
Kari 1820
How about somewhere in the Canadian wilderness, without it being too far north that it would become a health danger because of the cold temperatures? Maybe in fall or spring?
