Why didn't Michelle check this stuff out before confronting Tony? She's listening to Spawn for her support that Tony is unfit. Not the best move.

Yeah, Michelle was pretty quick to jump the gun, considering the complaints were only from one person. If numerous people had come to her about Tony, then I could see her immediate concern.

If I was Tony, I'd find a way (e.g., calling in the apparently always-ready subs and consultants) to get Kim -- and Michelle -- out of CTU for the duration.

I don't think Kim did it to be whiny and vengeful - if she wanted to do that why not go after someone easier like Chloe or Adam?
Melia
Jan 7, 2004 @ 10:14 am
I don't think Kim was whiny or vengeful at all. I think she's merely inexperienced. For my part I believe she thought she was doing the right thing by going to Michelle with her concerns about Tony - her father and her boyfriend's lives are at stake in this thing after all. Plus she feels an affinity with Michelle (IMO). But as far as we know, Tony's doing everything right and it's Kim who made the mistakes by not checking proper Whatever Technology procedures with the codes etc. I think Michelle should have investigated a little more before bringing it to Chapelle. Now she's responsible for calling her husband's competency into question based on the inexperience of a low-level CTU employee.
I guess I feel that Michelle did it because she had maybe taken Kim under her a wing for whatever reason. She took time to listen to Kim when they were in the loo earlier in the day, she began giving Kim more responsibilities during the virus crisis... So maybe that's why she trusted Kim's judgement about Tony, though she should have known better.. I don't know. Either way Michelle's in big trouble now, and will probably not be so nice to Kim from now on. I'm rambling now, but I guess I just wanted to say I didn't feel Kim was 'stupid' or 'whiny'. Just young and inexperienced, stressed out and worried for the only close family she has.

Jan 7, 2004 @ 10:15 am
I, too, don't think she did it to be whiny. I really think she felt like Tony had messed those couple of things up. And if you think about it, Adam was also whiny and pissy about the lost 8 minutes because they didn't have the correct codes. So that tells me that there may be more to this than meets the eye (i.e. Tony is covering his ass after the mistakes are caught).
Penarol1916
Jan 7, 2004 @ 10:54 am
Tony may be covering up his mistakes, but the way she complained about him chewing her out tells me that she does not have thick skin at all to deal with moody bosses. Just a poor employee.

I think Kim did pretty well with her last "moody" boss - Gary Matheson.

I would agree with you, however, it sucks to get your ass chewed out for something you did not do. So if she truly felt as though she had done things correctly I can see her going to a superior to have them take a look at it. However, Michelle's reaction to immediately pass the information on to Chapelle was not wise.

Jan 7, 2004 @ 4:55 pm
She didn't complain about being chewed out, Penarol, but rather that Tony chewed her out and was wrong. It wasn't "Wah! He yelled at me." but "He was so sure he was right that he yelled at me and I know for a fact he'd wrong."

I don't blame Kim for taking her concerns to Michelle. In fact, it seemed like she wasn't going to until Adam seconded her suspicions that Tony had cost them time. What irritated me about the Kim/Michelle exchange was the way Kim spoke to Michelle. Bond or no- you just do not speak to your boss that way and as her superior, Michelle should have knocked her down a few pegs.

In my eye Michelle has been equally (or more, considering she's married to the man) concerned about Tony being able to do his job and therefore didn't take Kim's bossy attitude as such. She really needed to hear those words from someone else's mouth.
I'm rambling now, but I guess I just wanted to say I didn't feel Kim was 'stupid' or 'whiny'. Just young and inexperienced, stressed out and worried for the only close family she has.
My thoughts exactly. Everything in Kim's mind right now is to get dad and bf back alive and all her actions speak for it. I really can't blame her for being sensitive over Tony and his supposed flakiness. IMO She's reliving the loss of her mom over and over again.

I've formed an idea that Kim is being set up for a "boy who cried wolf" situation, where she actually figures the whole thing out but no one listens to her because of her past mistakes. It's really the only way I can think of why the writers seemingly want us to hate her so much now.

I saw the final few minutes of a TV program last night (don't know what it was called; "Largo Winch" or something like that). Elisha Cuthbert was in it; as a brunette. That hair colour suited her. I was wondering if that's her natural colour?

Tonight's episode proved that Elisha Cuthbert does remember how to act and she did a great job of it - especially in her scenes with Kiefer and Sarah.
I'm disappointed that Kim didn't get a shot at Nina but hopefully the punch that was supposed to be included in the earlier part of this episode makes it way onto the DVD extras.

Oh, that's right. That's her, shaking her rack in that new film.
EDIT, about 2 days later - Actually not only have I read rave reviews of the film now (and yes, even of her performance), but I've seen some footage (consider none of this "work friendly", just to be safe):
Some footage, including a fairly dirty "R" rated International trailer and an extended scene in Windows Media format:
http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/g/girlnextdoor.phpSome more footage, most of which appears in the various trailers anyway:
http://www.cinemovies.fr/fiche_extrait.php?IDfilm=3039You see the most of her in that extended scene from the first site, and the one "Did You Like What You Saw" clip from the second site... and believe it or not... she seems to hit a home run. The extended scene has her in this kid's house in a fantasy sequence that is... er... very very impressive in certain ways.

To follow up on a much earlier discussion, there's still very little that's happened to Spawn this season -- or as a result of her actions -- about which one can say she's stupid or clueless.
Benji
Mar 9, 2004 @ 3:14 pm
Very little has happened to Spawn period this year. She's the new Michelle from last season! Does nothing of importance, has trivial computer related tasks to occupy her time, occasionally has personal conversations with CTU agent who she's romantically entwined with. However, her familial issues have been handled far better than the Michelle's brother incident.
Overall, I think the writers just brought her back cause they didn't want to conceed the audience was right on not just Kate, but her too. And because she's been around since day 1. Oh and Elisha Cuthbert is wicked hot.

Plus, she adds a dynamic to Kiefer's character that nobody else does. Jack the father is totally different from action Jack, but it's only really action Jack that's been explored sincr Season One. Unfortunately, without redoing Season One there's no real reason to explore it again, so there's no desperate need for Kim either.

Jack is totally different person when he is with Kim, she allows him to be more sensible, and to show his tender side. I believe she's going to stay the whole show, I don't think she gets killed, Jack has already lost her wife, he can't lose her daughter. It would be too much

Is Kim even on this show anymore? Can't we at least get her out of the suit and into some gratuitous undies or something before the season wraps.

Apr 8, 2004 @ 11:20 pm
I think the reason Kim's still on the show (and not dead, like Teri, or vanished into the ether, like Kate) is because the writers want to keep some characters as regulars, besides Kiefer and Palmer. I mean, the only main characters since the first season are Kiefer, Palmer, Tony, and.. Kim. And, well, LadyMac and Nina, but those two are special cases, and one of them is dead anyways. I don't blame the people in charge if they don't want to completely recast the show every two seasons or so, like, say, Law and Order.
I say keep Kim. At least she has a real reason for sticking around now, anyways.

I thought it was to reel in some new viewers with the promise of a hot young blond chick. And the viewers that might not think "ooh, CIA, now that's a show for me." At least last year when she was running around with Megan.
I never got into 24 when the first season aired. I watched one ep (when Jack was holding the waitress hostage) and I didn't get into it. Partly because I kept getting confused by the split screens, since I didn’t even know who the characters were. As insane as it sounds to me now, I accidentally caught the season 2 premiere and kept watching because I wanted to know what was going to happen... With Kim and Megan. (I’m kind of ashamed of it now. Heh.) By the third episode I was hooked on the entire show, bought the first season on DVD. And started hating Spawn. Damn, she was stupid.
But as a character I think she does help bring in a different audience than just the one that is primarily targeted. Ironically she very quickly becomes annoying.

Then the least they could do is to have her wear some sexy and glaringly inappropriate office attire to give us something to ogle when she's otherwise fucking up another scene.

Check this out from imdb.com...
Cougar Scare for Elisha Cuthbert
Sexy 24 star Elisha Cuthbert was savagely attacked by a cougar and had to be rushed to hospital while filming the hit American TV series. The 100 lb animal sunk it's teeth into the 21-year-old actress as she tried to give him a friendly cuddle through it's cage on the set of the counter- terrorism show. She says, "My stunt double was petting the animal, so I put my hand out to stroke it and it bit me, it almost ripped my thumb off. I was rushed to hospital with two puncture wounds, one of which went right through my hand, I had a brace on my hand for five weeks and now I'm left with a cool scar."
Ok, we all remember that stupid plotline, but this makes me realize that EC is not really acting- she really is that dumb. I don't care if her stunt double was doing it- sticking your hand in a cougar cage is just dumb dumb dumb.
brighid
Apr 15, 2004 @ 2:47 pm
I don't think it's that dumb. It's a trained animal, there were most likely handlers nearby and her stunt double was petting the cougar as well so she had every reason to assume it was safe to do so. Unfortunately, for her the cat freaked out for whatever reasons and she got hurt.
It could have as easily have been another star or the stunt double.
mrmike
Apr 15, 2004 @ 2:56 pm
I'm sorry, but trained or not you don't go sticking your hand in a cage containing a cougar- they can't be domesticated like house cats- that's just common sense. And there have been several occaisions where trained animals attack people. Just ask Roy Horn.
And even if the stunt double was petting the cougar, remember what you mother always told you: If everyone else was jumping off a bridge, would you jump off a bridge as well?
(to which my brother would respond- "Those guys are jumping off bridges without me?")

Apr 15, 2004 @ 2:59 pm
IIRC, the original story (which must be a year old now!) said that the cougar's handler had encouraged her to pet it so that she'd become more comfortable around it.
brighid
Apr 15, 2004 @ 3:05 pm
Well, this was before Roy Horn so Elisha wouldn't have that for a frame of reference when she went to pet the cougar.
Also, the bridge analogy doesn't work because I know jumping from a high level goes against common sense - petting an apparently friendly and tamed animal does not.
IIRC, the original story (which must be a year old now!)
It's weird that this is popping up again.

Hi all. I'm jumping in here from where I usually live in the Reality TV forums. I need to settle a bet and I'm sure the all-knowing TWoP posters can help.
I have only seen Elisha's name in print. How is it pronounced?
Is it El - ee - sha? (like the name Alicia)
or
Is it El - eye - sha? (like the Old Testament prophet)
Thanks.
Kromm
Apr 21, 2004 @ 4:12 am
I think it's closest to the prophet, but the "e" sounding like an "i" is a bit less drawn out.
For what it's worth I think they showed some reasonable restraint in making sure that Kim's heroics weren't a multi-episode arc this time. It would have come off as fake if Kim went from panicked cougar runner awayer to gun toting mamma (okay, we knew she could already use a gun, but it's the spirit of the thing I'm objecting to).
Really this girl just needs to let the show kill her and go on to a better career elsewhere with roles without Kim Bauer's "stupid" baggage, because in real life (if you've seen her on talk shows) she's actually reasonably smart.
