Because of Ebay my Pez collection has gotten a little out of hand, I also bought a Leafs Jersey that I wore last night as they kicked the Sens ass.
The best thing I've ever bought on ebay though was my iPod. I love my iPod. I would marry my iPod if I could. Best thing I've bought ever from anywhere.
Now all they need to do is make an iPod PEZ and my world to be complete
Oh and Suga, I took Miss Dona's advice and started using Esnipe, and its worked out great for me.

I don't know what you are talking about, Rachel. I am here in my happy place, where Daniel Alfredsson can get the puck in the net, Ed Belfour is out with fourteen pulled muscles in his groin, and Patrick Lalime can actually stop a shot that is fired RIGHT AT HIS FREAKING PADS. I'm looking forward to seeing the Sens take out the Flyers in four straight games.

Lalime . . . isn't that French for "sieve"? Oh, wait, "sieve" is French for "sieve." I think. Anyway, I could nominate a whole bunch of others for the Sieve award, in any language. Lalime was just, ah, inadequate. I wonder if he's thought about doing Viagra ads.
I, too, look forward to seeing the Sens take out the Flyers in four straight games. But not any time soon, unfortunately.

Seriously, what was up with that? It was like he bet Pro-Line on the Leafs or something. It always amuses me how, every time the Sens choke in the playoffs, the media immediately starts talking about how they should fire Jacques Martin. Ok, if your team finishes in first place (or close to first) every single season, why exactly would you fire the coach because his key players choke in the playoffs? It's not his fault. If they want to crucify someone, take Lalime out and beat his ass with a stick until his rectum falls out or something. But don't fire the coach.

Over on the 24 boards, I described how switching between 24 and the game resulted in a fantasy where Kiefer did horribly nasty things to Belfour and Domi. It was sweet.
And Rachel, I had to agree with a Leafs fan, but yes, Martin is not the problem, he rocks. Lalime? Outta there. And somebody shave Daniel Alfredssons' head while they're making changes. Sheesh boy. You're not Samson, ok? CUT. IT.

I collect 70s television memorabilia and I’ve scooped up a bunch of items for a handful of bucks that are worth much more. A few of my favorite deals:
- Mint condition, never played, Kojak board game that I got from a guy in England for 6 pounds. And that included the shipping all the way from London-town.
- My Charlie’s Angels pinball machine!
- An Oscar Goldman doll with exploding briefcase, NEW in the box
Happy belated birthday

Have any Race fans here ever participated in an
Urban Challenge? My sister and I are thinking about entering the one that will be held in St. Louis at the end of May. It's sort of a one-day, one-city, Amazing Race-Lite. There are no detours or other tasks, and no camera crews following you around. They hold a trivia contest at the beginning to determine when each two-person team starts -- you can get up to a 30-minute head-start on other teams by doing well there. Then you have to find 12 locations in order using only a list of clues they give you, and get someone to take a picture of your team at each location as proof. You can only travel on foot (Chipsters!) or by public transportation.
One down-side is there are no cash prizes. You get a medal for finishing, and the top ten teams earn entry into the national UC, which has a prize of $50K. Only the top team wins travel expenses to Miami, where the next national one will be held, though, so for teams 2-10 that might not be such a great prize.
Still, we think it sounds like fun. I wondered if anyone here had done it, and had any opinions or tips about it. Thanks.

I can't help thinking of the unfortunate Jamaican bobsled team.
Roark13579, I didn't participate in an official UC, but I did do a local scavenger hunt type race about a year and a half ago. It was really interesting and I got a taste of what TAR must be like (enough to know that I would fail miserably). We raced all day, in teams, all over DC, using only public transportation. I was worn out at the end, but in a good way.

Roark13579, I've given some thought to attending one, but the only person who seemed remotely interested in coming with me (Mr. Blevins) took one look at last year's clues once they were posted on the web and proclaimed them stupid and that he didn't want to pay the hefty fee to go on a pub crawl. Ours is held in the middle of the summer, so maybe he just didn't want to have to put up with my whining about the heat, though -- we'd be two Flos, each trying to force the other to take the lead, I think. So it's not happening this year. He decided he'd be a great internet researcher for some team, however. Anybody in the Seattle race need another phonable resource?

Yeah,
jennblevins, $150 for a race that doesn't even offer any cash prizes does seem a bit steep to me, but I suppose it's not too far out of bounds. There's a group putting on a one-day Eco-Challenge-type race here locally in September (here's a
link if anyone's interested), and they're charging $300 per four-person team, so maybe $75/person is pretty standard for this sort of thing.

Got a question for the Meet Market. I'm currently temping for a Canadian company. My boss has a very, very boring job, so she and her Canadian counterpart send care-packages back and forth (and charge the company). They specifically try and send items that are only sold in their respective country. I've now learned that Canada has an awesome selection of candy bars that are not available here. I'm trying to help her find items found only here in the US, and I'm stumped. The only stuff I can come up with can't be shipped (lime Diet Coke for example). Can anybody provide any other ideas? Do the Canadians on the board know of any items sold here in the US that they can't buy up there?

I have a question for any natural redheads (or anyone who knows a natural redhead, particularly one that is old enough to have some gray hair).
My hair is red, but it's not natural. I'm playing an older woman in a play soon and would like to gray my hair some, but I'm not sure about the shade to make it look right. I don't want to turn all my hair gray (or I'd wear a wig). I just want some gray streaks to make me look older. I'm playing a woman who's about 60-65. The guy who is playing my son is a natural redhead (and only about 7 years younger than me).
Does anyone have any idea how redheads go gray?

Hello Dougintx or should I say New York!
One of the things I always look for candy-wise when I go to the States is Milk Duds. We cannot get those up here as far as I know. And they're yummy!
We have Lime Diet Coke now though.
Another thing is Butterfinger, at least I don't think we have those. I try not to eat candy bars any more. We never had Mounds or Almond Joy either, though we have something very similar.
That's all I can think of. I'll let the other Canucks (Kanuck!?) make some suggestions.

Happy belated anniversary, M.Darcy. So you've been on a year longer than I have and you're still a Fanatic. You show remarkable restraint, considering you post in nearly all the threads I do.
As for the candy thing, hasn't international food shipping been curtailed in the last few years? I guess not, if Doug not so much in TX anymore's boss has been doing it. Maybe they use some kind of company shipping method that doesn't follow the same restrictions as the rest of us.

I send Canadian treats to my friends in the U.S. all the time and I've never had a problem with it. There's not really much that my U.S. friends send me though because we have almost all the stuff that you guys have. And the stuff we don't have is, like you said, stuff that can't be shipped. (Although, if you could find a way to ship me a Sonic restaurant, I would be most grateful.) The one thing I can think of that my friends in the States always ship me that we don't have here is certain varieties of Girl Scout cookies. Like those yummy Peanut Butter Patties!! Those things rock and we don't have them here.

Does anyone have any idea how redheads go gray?
My mom is a natural redhead, my dad's a blonde, and I'm a strawberry blonde -- or used to be. Lighter colored hair slowly fades. So instead of getting those dramatic gray streaks that brunettes often have (and which I love and envy), we just sort of drift from bright to dull. My mom (age 71, and getting lots of space on TWoP this week) dyes her hair cinnamon, which is the last real color she had. My hair (and I'm pushing 50) has gone to a sort of pale blonde with butterscotch highlights and the random cluster of gray hairs.
What I would do is add a lot of cinnamon highlights and streaks to your own color, with a few gray and platinum blonde (yes!) streaks. And I'd put some gray along the temples, just like you would with anyone, but have much of the surrounding hair be cinnamon colored, and the platinum more on the top of your head. As a matter of fact, for verisimilitude, I'd get a cinnamon wig and add gray and platinum streaks. About 5 times more gray than platinum, putting the latter where it will catch the light.
What play are you going to be in?

Hi everybody, I'm Weds and I'm new to this board. Some of you I recognize from the DC gang (and gosh do I miss KaraokeCon!), others are new to me and I look forward to getting to know you.
I'm 27, I'm recently married, and I'm an American living in Bogota, Colombia. My husband works for the State Department. We find out tomorrow what our next post is, and I'm on pins and needles. I'm hoping for Namibia, but Sarajevo is much more likely.
I got into TAR because it airs in English, and because I keep hoping they'll come down here to Colombia for a real adventure. It is a cabbie, a FARC operative or a common thief? Only way to find out is to get in and see if you wind up at your destination, a jungle camp, or passed out in a warehouse with all your posessions gone! Good times.
We're only on Season 3 down here, which I'm thoroughly loving. Why didn't I get into this show earlier?
ETA: As for sweets, the Colombian dessert is something called an oblea - it's a big wafer sandwich with arequipe (caramel spread) in the middle. It's delicious - give it a try if you can find it.

Rachel, because I know they have seriously cracked down on people travelling via car with food, so why would it be different via mail? I think former West Wing mod

DariaG, we're doing a play called "The Beams Are Creaking" by some guy whose name I can't remember off the top of my head about Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German minister imprisoned and then hanged by the Nazis for trying to kill Hitler. I'm also stage manager and wasn't supposed to be actually in the play, but the woman playing his mother wasn't showing up to rehearsals, and no one else was available. It's a relatively small part, at least, but I haven't been able to be as prepared as usual and am having problems getting into character. Given a choice of the only three female parts in the play (what happens when you do something with lots of military people in the 1940s), this isn't the one I would pick. So I'm hoping the hair (not The Hair) will help.

Well, there's food and there's food ... my parents travel to BC all the time (most recently about two months ago, so it could have changed since then) and buy stuff they can't get here. They've never had any trouble bringing stuff back, but what they get is mostly packaged (soda, chips, spices) and probably not threatening in any sense except to one's health. I imagine deborah's food is more fresh stuff, but the packages probably aren't?

We ship food pretty often (especially cheddar cheese, which is too spicy for the Colombian palate). You can only send items that are sealed - packaged foods, soup cans, unopened wine and liquor, etc. You can't ship fruits and vegetables, or meats unless they are vacuum-sealed.

A friend in Canada used to send me digestive biscuits, but to my utter delight a store here has recently started carrying them. Talk about addicting!
Something you might consider to send to Canada is local types of foods -- for example, here in New Orleans you can buy pecan pralines on every corner, practically, homemade or packaged, but they're not available in Canada as far as I know. And I'm sure there are other local types of candies that you wouldn't even find in other parts of the U.S., let alone exported. Or, of course, there are all the Cajun and Creole foods, which again are available in pretty good packaging (I gather some of the Zatarain's mixes have made it to Canada -- but trust me, Zatarain's makes a LOT of mixes that never make it out of South Louisiana, and then there's all the Paul Chachere's stuff and whatnot!).
Anyway, just a thought. Another board I was on tried to organize a food exchange between people who could get things that weren't available elsewhere. I was going to trade pralines for some smoked whitefish with a woman in Wisconsin, where my husband is from, but the whole thing ended up falling through, to his disappointment.
If you have a World Market in your area, you'll find they carry a LOT of the foods you used to not be able to get in the U.S. I even tried a Yorkie bar recently ("It's not for girls!"). Just a chocolate bar, as far as I could tell. Oh well.

Zapps? Nope. Never even heard of them. I'll keep an eye out for them, though. Mostly I like plain potato chips, but my ex got me hooked on vinegar-and-salt flavor when I lived in Mobile. Dill Pickle is like that, only better.
And hey, congrats on the new job!
