Is there something going on tonight? :)
JenEx
ThatGrrl, witness a very good reason to get married. You always have someone to blame it on! Although since Mr. Ex does a large part of the laundry, I really shouldn't complain.

Holy crap, 10 hours and 18 minutes! It's a good thing I have M. Darcy to look forward to at 7:30, but what am I supposed to do between 8 and 9:30, watch BB? I don't THINK so!
Rabrab
And don't forget our own M. Darcy is on Jeopardy! this afternoon, too.
Just hope she isn't simply Ken-fodder.
JoyWalker
I just pinned on my TARcon 4 button, as that's my only TAR paraphenalia. Wonder how many strange looks I'll get today?

Gotta share a non-TAR thingy. I'm not a great seamstress, but I'd offered to make a friend some garb to wear to Ren Faires, thinking that it'd be fairly simple peasanty stuff like most of the folks wear there. Yesterday, we actually went out to look at fabric and patterns, and she picks out the Shakespeare in Love dress , and she's thinking I'll make it out of silk. I should've said no. Really. I should've. But I didn't. So now I have the most complicated sewing project I'll probably ever attempt. I have the heebie jeebies now. If there are any accomplished tailors out there who wouldn't mind serving as an occasional email advisor, please let me know. Eep.
Mama Tiger
I sympathize, JoyWalker. I decided to try making myself a boned bodice, and of course couldn't make it easy but had to pick fabric with diagonal embroidery so I had to lay out the fabric just so. It was seriously challenging! I don't know about tailoring, but I'm quite willing to be a sympathetic ear as you struggle through -- I know the pattern of which you speak, and it looks like a true killer!
Hawkwild
boned bodice

You said "boned." Heh heh heh. [/12 years old]

In other news, I am so sad, as my latest online crush, with whom I was planning to make a date for coffee or drinks this week to see if he's as cute in person as he is online, just confessed that "he's never watched any reality TV."

Now I have to try to figure out if he was just stating a fact, or wearing that like a badge of honor. I seriously cannot date any more "I don't watch any TV" guys, or people who tell me that watching any reality TV means that you don't have enough reality in your life. Grrrr.

Maybe he was just waiting all his life for me to turn him on to TAR. Yes, that's it. That MUST be it.
sparky1
My tivo is all set for tonight. It made me so happy to set up the season pass this weekend.

But on another subject:

How about a bra shop for women who are big around but don't need a D cup? It's almost impossible to find anything over a 38 in a C cup, but not everyone who's big around can fill a D cup.

Thank you! I had to go bra shopping this weekend, because I'm wearing a strapless dress to my friend's wedding this summer and I needed something that didn't dig, because you'd see it under the dress. Saturday, I went to Lord and Taylor and to Macy's, where I had no luck. and yesterday I went to Bloomingdales (where apparently they only sell bras for women who are a 34DD), and finally to Saks, where I found something (but where the first saleslady was so singularly unhelpful that I almost walked out). Normally I'm a 36C, but with a strapless, I find I need something either in a 38 or 40 B because strapless bras are designed so differently. and I wanted a long-line bra, because the dress is very fitted on top. Everything that looked like what I wanted was no bigger than a 34 or smaller than a D. The saleslady kept saying they had more in the back, but every time I asked her for something it was either "oh, that line has been discontinued" or "they don't make them in that size" (needless to say, I found the size in another section of the store, and told her to go shove it). I hate shopping.
Rabrab
Joy Walker, take heart--it's not quite as daunting as it looks--it's just lots of pieces-parts. Take them one at a time. Just don't let her choose a one-way patterned fabric, or a stripe, or one with nap (like velvet) !!

E-mail me--I'll certainly be glad to help anyway I can. I've made something similar.

Hawkwild, I think you should certainly mention TAR to him. If he's someone who doesn't do reality TV because it's somehow beneath him, you don't need him cluttering up your life.

And speaking of clutter-- freecycle.org is a great, great, thing! I've been using them for a bit now, and have been getting rid of more stuff because I don't feel bad about dumpstering it or taking it to StVinnie's and hoping that they can find it a home.
Mama Tiger
sparky, the best place to find a good longline strapless bra is a bridal shop. Especially with the plethora of strapless bridal dresses these days. Just a future FYI. It never would have occurred to me, till I took my daughter dress-shopping last year for her wedding (that later fell through thanks to her stupid fiance dumping her, which is a long story you do not want me to get started on). Bridal shops by god they can squeeze you into just about anything with their sturdy undergarments.

I agree with Rabrab that it's more daunting from the number of pieces than anything else. It's just important to be very, very exact in your seaming so you don't end up missing the general size completely. Or in taking it in/letting it out in the right places if you do!
ThatGrrl
I seriously cannot date any more "I don't watch any TV" guys, or people who tell me that watching any reality TV means that you don't have enough reality in your life. Grrrr.

Oooooo. Me too, Hawkwild. Those people really chafe my butt. [haughty voice] As if one could possibly toss TAR in with the rest of the lot of reality programming (I'm looking at you, The Swan), or dismiss it without even seeing it.[/haughty voice]. I have this argument all the time with an even worse form of television snob: the "I don't even own a television" variety. Morons. It's about the message, idiot; not the medium.

JenEx, that may be the best reason I've heard of in support of marriage: having someone on whom to blame things!
mel42024
Hmm, hopefully I'll be able to catch Jeopardy tonight at some point, because I only have one VCR and no fancy Tivo or anything like that. If all else fails I can flip back and forth between Jeopardy and TAR (good old satellite).

I hate strapless bras with a passion. They just never fit right and I always find that I have to pull them up every few minutes. Grrrr.
Mama Tiger
Your Jeopardy is on at the same time as TAR? Wow, what a bummer! Here it's on, of course, at the totally annoying time of 4:30 p.m., which means without taping it, I don't see it.

But if anyone is interested, the Jeopardy website has this week's contestants on it -- and M. Darcy is on there under her real human name. She's the one from Arlington, VA. And there's even a little video clip of her doing a little promo!
Rachel RSL
Wheeeeee!! TARsday!!! It's been so long, I forget what the chat room name is. Is it "TWOP TAR chat"?
Hildy
TARsday! Yaaaaaay! I come back from a three day weekend to find the board just fizzing with excitement. We're like a can of tonic that's been shook hard and is dying to pop its top!
Coherent sentences? I laugh a deep, rich laugh.
mel42024
Mama Tiger, Jeopardy is on at 7:30 and TAR is on at 9:30, but with my satellite, they repeat every hour. Unfortunately, I'm going to be at work until 10:30, so I'll be watching TAR until 12, but by then Jeopardy isn't repeating anymore. I'll survive, though.
Loraxe
Hey Polkaroo Rachel, I just wanted to say, from way back, that I too use 'Henry the Eighth' to get rid of earworms. How weird.

So what do you guys think, does this sound mean? "sorry sis, I can only spend an hour at your birthday dinner, I have to go home and watch Jeopardy and the Race".

That sucks, I checked the ATV listing last week and it said it was playing TAR an hour early and I was so excited. Sigh. Who needs sleep? I am on vacation in 3 days!
Mama Tiger
Okay, what's this about a chat room? Am I hopelessly out of it here or what? Cause I only found TWOP during TAR4, so know nothing about a chat room. Tell me more!!!
Red Targetter
Hi, my name is Red T., and I'm addicted to constantly refreshing the TARflies site just to see the timer count down towards zero...

Work? I'm not getting any work done today. Well, okay, some work. Actually, rather a lot... between refreshes.
iMissEthan
I'm so excited for tonight's premiere, coupled with MDarcy's Jeopardy appearance. Tonight is definitely the highlight Tv evening of my summer.
tanstaafl
Hello everyone. Since the Race starts tonight I figured I would stop in and say "Hi!". I've been a Race fan since the first season (I did recaps for seasons 1 and 2 on my site until Real Life™ intevened and took up all my time) but only stumbled across TWoP about a month ago. I've tried to catch up on as many of the posts here as I can (which is where I've been the past month ;) ) and look forward to joining in on the discussion this time around.

As for now, the world is waiting. Let's get going!
SheriffTruman
I'm a bit bummed about the announced move to Saturdays starting with Episode 5-2. I mean, that's prime beer-guzzling time. Not to mention the fact that all my weekends will be taken up with trips home and TWoPCons, although I suspect I can work TAR into the latter somewhere. Maybe the former, too.

I'm so torn.
Hildy
I'm very confused. I thought the Saturday time slot was going to show a repeat of that week's episode. Yes? No?
swimmerboy
I'm very confused. I thought the Saturday time slot was going to show a repeat of that week's episode. Yes? No?

Yes. Saturday shows are repeats. New episodes are still every Tuesday @ 10. My guess is sloppy reporting/confusion about TAR 6 airing Saturday nights this fall.

ETA...Jinx Hawkwild!
Hawkwild

TAR 5 will air 10 PM on Tuesdays for its entire run. TAR is on the CBS FALL schedule at 8pm Saturdays, but I think that's the planned TAR6 (which apparently isn't in the can yet).
ThatGrrl
I almost wish they'd move the finale to a Saturday night for TAR5. We'd see it earlier and I selfishly want TARcon5 to be on a weekend. It's pretty long haul from C-ville, Virginia to NYC. I'm seeing some vacation days in my future...

(What? Doesn't everyone save their vacation days for really important things like TARcon?)
M. Darcy
Please, I am planning a trip to Chicago with a friend of mine for a weekend this summer and I wouldn't go in September just in case they moved the finale to Saturday.
ccrean
I'm really confused by the schedule. Plus won't the stoooooopid baseball games mess it up for us in metro NY? (Or maybe baseball just screws up Big Brother?) I've just been in denial up until today. Sort of like waiting until April 14 to do your taxes.

I'm so excited! When I watch TAR tonight I'm going to wear the same outfit I wore to the Survivor finale in NYC. I met the Guidos as they were getting out of their limo and gave them hugs. They were so nice. Both of them were wearing khaki pants and matching red shirts. All they needed was a touch of yellow.

Who will be the first face plant? Ach! I'm like a kid on Chistmas Eve!
ThatGrrl
M.Darcy! We are all pulling for you tonight on Jeopardy. I know it can't change anything after the fact, but good luck. Or, at least, hope they edit you favorably!

ETA, I'm hoping that Alison is the first face plant. Barring that, I'll take any former beauty pagent type. There are certainly enough of them.
rlb8031
I HATE MY BOSS!!!!!

Tonight we are responsible for taking the newly hired college grads out for dinner. Well, of course, my boss was out on Friday and didn't tell anybody. As the least senior of the senior folks it has fallen to ME to play host to twenty kids who could give a damn less about me or the dinner (except for the fact that its free, and that there will pretty much be an endless supply of liquor) since everyone else has begged off. So now instead of having a happy TARsday I'll be trying to leave dinner about 9:00 to catch the last hour of TAR.

Can I say again - I HATE MY BOSS!!!
SheriffTruman

In my defense, from this morning's Chicago Tribune, Final Edition, Tempo, Sec. 5, p. 1:

"'Amazing Race': All adrenaline, all the time", by Steve Johnson, Tribune television critic
Nine reasons to pay attention first, out of all summertime reality fare, to "The Amazing Race," CBS' great, global team rally:
* * *
8.  It's an underdog.  Sure, it won last year's reality competition-series Emmy, beating out "Survivor" and "American Idol," but through four cycles of the game, it has never caught fire with viewers.  Even its own network treats it with disrespect.  After Tuesday's premiere, it'll move to the graveyard time slot of 7 p.m. Saturdays.

Personally, I think the boards are better-informed than the Chicago Tribune, but it may be that our local affiliate is screwing us over. Is he wrong?

P.S., another vote for Alison as first face-plant.
swimmerboy
SheriffTruman, I still think it's just sloppy reporting. TiVo and all the other tv listing sites still have episode 2 airing next Tuesday the 13th. Repeats are Saturdays at 8/7c.
SheriffTruman
Whew. Thanks. Tuesdays are far more convenient.
delta888
And don't forget our own M. Darcy is on Jeopardy! this afternoon, too.

Oh, shit. I totally lost track of this, and didn't set my VCR. Too busy obsessing about getting TAR taped properly.
KonaKini
Heh, when I was watching Jeopardy on Friday and Ken won again, the first thing I said was - wow, M. Darcy will be going up against him. TAR and TARflies rule all aspects of my world.
TheAnglican
Ach! I'm like a kid on Chistmas Eve!
Oh, me too. Except I think that TAR does a better job of delivering the goods than Santa ever did. (what? oh yes, I'm still bitter that I never got that Barbie dream house)

Maybe I should take MamaTiger as an example and try to use some of the excess energy to clean the house. But in honor of the premiere, I am going to make real strawberry shortcake this afternoon with the last of the local berries and real whipped cream. Also, real biscuit-type shortcakes. (sponge cake is so not shortcake)

Happy TARsday to everybody!
Omoo
I can stop being livid at ATV. Found a friend with cable who is excited about the race. Cool. Bribed him to let me come over and now we're having a BBQ. Who cares that it is raining.

M.Darcy I was really hoping that you wouldn't have to face Ken, but I hope it's a good game tonight.
M. Darcy
I was really hoping that you wouldn't have to face Ken
Not as much as I was :-)
ThatGrrl
Rlb8031, any chance you could take this as an opportunity to create twenty new converts? Just tell them that in order to succeed at your company, they'll be required to watch TAR. Locate a restaurant where 21 people could easily commandere possession of the television remote, order lots of alcohol, and you really might have a shot!

Oy, forgot about the Ken-factor, M.Darcy. My sympathies.
Hildy
I just went and watched M.Darcy's promo. Here's many best wishes at you trompling 'ol Needle Nose tonight!

Getting no work done, and now I'm obsessing about strawberry shortcake. We made it for July 4th dessert, with the correct homemade biscuit shortcake and not the ground poached rubber bands that the supermarket disguises as sponge cakes. Yick.
delta888
Jeopardy is on at 7:30 and TAR is on at 9:30, but with my satellite, they repeat every hour.

mel42024, you rule. I forgot that I'd be able to grab a repeat of this thanks to the magic of satellite. Off to the schedule to work this out....

ETA: Aaarrrrrrgh. Last one at 10:30pm. Grrrrr.
Mama Tiger
I really wish I was at home still cleaning my house, rather than sitting here at my desk pretending to work and obsessively checking TWOP and Tarflies, as if I wasn't excited enough already.

But don't worry, TheAnglican, that Barbie Dream House wasn't worth it. Really.
It'sAllAboutTheGiants
Does anyone with PhotoShop and PhotoShop skills have any time to fiddle with a couple of pictures for me for The Amazing Poll/Play-Along Game? They should be very quick little jobbies, and I'd like to have them by tomorrow morning. If you think you could squeeze me in (or are just looking for something to pass the damn time already), please send me an email through the linky-link up thataway ///.

Thanks! I'm all jittery with excitement for tonight! Eee!

Please, I am planning a trip to Chicago with a friend of mine for a weekend this summer and I wouldn't go in September just in case they moved the finale to Saturday.
Well, if ya do end up here in Chicago during a surprise finale, check the Chicago TWoPcon pages. I expect we'd be able to put a little something together. It may be just me in my apartment, but there'll be beer.
Ananayel
Yay! It's TARsday finally! (Bounce bounce bounce!)

I think the tv programmers are trying to kill me. Not only is it BB and TAR, but ANTM, Outback Jack, Real World Reunion and Crossballs. I have a very complicated watching/taping plan worked out-cross your fingers for me that it doesn't go haywire...
geebs_criminy
This is from several pages back, the posts here are superabundant. Anyhoo, this:

Both face plants and falling on asses would be greatly appreciated. People hurting themselves always makes me laugh.

Is definitely me. I can't help it most of the time. I try not to laugh. I really do. But that is just some of the best humor to me. That doesn't make me a bad person does it?

I have a question for any of you who have read Harry Potter and the OotP. Towards the end when when harry is packing up he finds the mirror from Sirius. It says that he got it from Sirius just inside the door at Grimmauld Place. Well, when does this happen? I feel like a dunce for asking. But I just can't find the part.

Well, happy Tarsday everyone! Here's to hoping for one and one episode of Alison. Hey, if you are going to wish. May as well wish big. Not that I know anything spoilerish.
pseudostudent
Chat info: a number of us TARflies get together in a chatroom on AOL Instant Messenger during the show to discuss it realtime, since that is frowned upon here. I frankly don't remember what the heck we called it, but I think TWOP TAR chat works just fine - at least we'll be sure that we don't accidental visitors.
piperdown
pseudo I forget do we do the invite thing now, or when the Chat starts?
M. Darcy
geebs_criminy its right before Harry leaves to go back to Hogwarts after the Christmas holidays I believe - when Sirrius says goodbye he gives him the mirror
Red Targetter
O-ho! can we bring beverages and snacks?

Heh, better let my DH know I'm commandeering the laptop for the duration.
Bluelena
Happy TARsday to all! I'm a big time lurker around here, but wanted to try to post some this season as this September will be my first TARcon!

6 hours, 33 minutes, and 35 seconds left! Will the workday NEVER end?
Rachel RSL
TWOP TAR chat works just fine - at least we'll be sure that we don't accidental visitors.

Heh. As opposed to when we tried to use "ASS chat" for Survivor.

Ok, TWOP TAR chat it is! Let's get the pool going on how long it takes my computer to crash!
