I finally got my TAR 1 tapes and just have to open up this thread again to say I love these two. Nancy and Em are definitely one of my favorite teams next to Kevin and Drew! I am only in episode three, but I think my love for these two will continue. Also it was really nice the way Em helped out Lenny at the Eiffel Tower.

Never saw this season, but I went to Sam Houston State University (same place as the daughter). I remember hearing all about her and TAR all over campus, especially in the newspaper, and I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't start watching until last season.

I hope this isn't old news or anything but, what's up with
this? It's been 6 seasons and no one wants to fix this?
Other point, i sorta feel bad that Nancy & Emily no longer hold the "Furthest Female/Female team" but for the first season which was more balenced between the men and women they did great.

Regardless if they don't hold the Furthest all female team title anymore, I still think they are better racers than Linda & Karen will ever be. They made for better TV as well.

Don't know about that. I love both teams, but the Moms have the never give up attitude that may just land them in the final three compared to Nancy and Emily who did very obivously just give up. I don't think you finish top five and wherever the Moms will place though without being a good team.

I'm just rewatching Season 1 (I DVR'd every night, I'm about a week behind) and I forgot how much I love Momily. Emily is just cute as a button, treats her mom like we all tend to treat our moms at times (though Nancy was a little too passive), but loved her more than anything.
I was sad they got eliminated in the one I saw tonight, but they had some horrible (and creepy) few days. I can't imagine the situation, I get grumpy just at Domestic Airports, I can't imagine India and the way they were treated, then straight to Thailand where they got similar treatment and chaos.
Wasn't Em dating Rob or Brennan for a while? I love the guys, they are both hot, but like Greg and Brian from last season (and I know R&B aren't brothers), I really don't know who's who. Has anyone ever seen the kids show Zaboomafoo? The brothers that host the show, the Kratt brothers are in the same kind of a group-I know they are all cute, but I don't know (or care) who is who, I'll take any of them!

On the comparing TAR seasons thread (and a few others too), I've read that the "TAR Classic" final four was the Greatest TAR Final Four Ever (in that teams from subsequent TAR final fours would not have cracked 1's final four if they were in the first TAR themselves).
My question here isn't whether or not that statement is true, but rather whether or not "Momily" would have made final four had they raced in any TAR but TAR 1.
Or would they still have finished fifth anyway? Or (gulp) lower?
BTW, I don't have GSN, so I missed the TAR1 rebroadcast, but am setting my sights on the DVD for this Christmas.

Very interesting question. One worth pondering as GSN continues airing TAR. I'll probably come back to this thread after each season airs almost entirely with an answer for said season.
My starting premise: Momily were becoming decent Racers but were driven into insurmountable KF by 2 factors, India and the Guidos' LOE. Thus, at first blush, any season that didn't pass through India nor had a team with incredible luck, Momily could theoretically have made F4.
TAR2: Did not have an India stop, so that would have been in their favor. However, between Taraweasel, Boston, and the Teeth, there's enough odd luck to pass around. I'll say that if Momily had been cast instead of Deidre and Hil, the Groanies would have been out first and Momily would have survived to about 5th place again.

I think that Momily wouldn't have lasted as long in any other season of TAR. They were helped on flights and other transportation every single leg; the only time I can actually remember them buying their own tickets was when they were discriminated against.

Is there any current news on Nancy and Emily?
I think somebody on the DVD commentary said that Emily had moved from Los Angeles back to Waco, TX (hometown).
They were helped on flights and other transportation every single leg
But why would that not have happened in other seasons? Implicitly, being nice and endearing was their strategy. As they (Kevin/Drew, Team Guido) admitted, they were helping Nancy and Emily out of self interest -- in the hope that it would help knock out a stronger team. Tough to predict, IMHO.

I think in the first season particularly, there was a lot more helping. I'm watching the sixth season right now, and I've yet to see a case of teams buying things for each other, even though they've tried (model alliance). It's happened since the first season, but I really don't think to the extent that it happened then, at least on a consistent basis.
People haven't cared how nice and endearing others were; they're more concerned about RAAACE, at least in that aspect.

But Momily finished 3rd in Legs 4 & 5. And they were not helped in Leg 5, that's for sure. They had to do that desert navigation on their own.

I was just rewatching TAR1. First, Emily has the cutest doe eyes, evah! But I hate her hair in cornrows
Second, Nancy is so sweet. In Italy, she basically convinced Emily to keep going by taking the bike ride even though the glider would have been more fun so they"would keep going". (Emily seemed on the verge of giving up)
Third, OMG! Poor Nancy in the India marketplace! That must be the worse case of Killer Fatigue evah! And this was in Classic when they let the cameras run for a long time. With all the people crowding around the van, the confusion over the directions, Nancy slowly panicing and Emily joining in, it was heartbreaking!! What a sweet reward when they were not elim'd. (Although I liked Karyn, so I was sorry to see her go). Cheers to Momily!

One of my favorite Momily moments was the aftermath of the Tunis airport. Emily showed just how much she felt Nancy had been disrespected, and I totally felt her there. I'd cry, too, if the Guidos had done that to my mother. Then again, Mama Birch would've had them snacking on their own teeth in under two minutes.

Another great Momily moment: on the train to Bikaner in India. The ladies are thrilled to see the Guidos, although in a confessional, Nancy laughs that the Guidos are "a lot less happy to see them". This after it took the ladies an hour and a half to buy train tix (the clerks wouldn't sell to women)
Then, once they got on the train, poor Nancy got a really dirty bunk, which she claimed "someone had been sick in." She goes on to say "I'm all for seeing the world, but I didn't sign up for this!" I was laughing at her distress and disgust. She is fantastic!
Not to mention the gut wrenching episode where they try to get the fast forward in Thailand. Heartstopping!

I am just able to see TAR 1 on DVD now and just finished the episode where Nancy and Emily were eliminated. I don't know if I was more disappointed to see them go or to know that the Guidos were not eliminated. I really liked Momily and felt really bad for them in India. If only they hadn't given up and took that cab who knows how far they could've gone.

My dream would have been for them to not quit, eliminate the Guidos and then still have the FF available to them in the next leg. I think that would have got them to the finals because the Frats would probably be team number four in China still.

I don't know about that. Kevin and Drew were
minutes behind Guido, a team who proved themselves to be, generally, more competent racers than Momily. Obviously, luck plays a large part in this game so who knows what
could have happened if the Guidos had been eliminated instead of Momily, but if we judge by using previous racing results and experiences, I believe that it would have been the Frats who ended up alone in Alaska. Not Momily.

Their FF leg would be the one in Thailand with the King climb etc. That leg was a NEL, so they would have been first there. I don't think with the Frats missing the hours of operation at Sea Land and Trek, that they would have caught the first three teams.

I just want to gripe and say how unfair it is that Momily is not on all-stars. I fthey hadn't given up in Thailand thinking they were in last and went and caught a bus they would have gotten there in four thus eliminating the Guidos. Then the could have used their FF on the next leg to catch up with the lawers and F/M, so the frats would have still been twelve hours behind thus giving Momily at least thrid. They so deseved to be on all-stars to prove what great racers they were.

They had actually
wrote letters to Kevin/Drew and Team Guido for the roadblock in Leg 4, but Team Guido read Frank's.
I wonder if the Guidos read Momily's letter too, or if it was in a different envelope.

I've watched season 1 again on GSN and I'm trying to figure out what would have happened if Emily and Nancy hadn't given up and instead taken the public bus to the pit stop.
Judging by the editing they would have arrived after Kevin & Drew if they had taken the bus, but before the Guidos (meaning that E&M would have arrived some time between 3 and 6 a.m.).
So what would have happened in the next leg? Which one of these scenarios is most likely?
A. E&N starts in fourth place, goes for the FF, finishes at the pit stop during the night (while K&D finishes the next day). E&M would then finish no worse than third in Beijing since they had approx. 12 hour lead on K&D
B. E&N go for the FF but can't finish it because of hours of operation. They finish the next morning at about the same time as K&D. The two teams then fight it out in Beijing to decide who is eliminated.
C. No FF available on the next leg. E&M and K&D finish in the morning and on the Thailand-China leg E&N use the FF and finish third, but it doesn't enable them to completely catch up to the first two teams.
D. K&D goes for the FF in the Thailand leg, K&D start the Thailand-China leg approximately at the same time as the first two teams. E&N far behind and are eliminated in Beijing.
E. No FF available n the Thailand leg. K&D and E&N finish that leg together. K&D go for the FF in Beijing. E&N eliminated

K&D had already taken a fast forward, so scenario D wouldn't have been relevant. I agree that it would have been interesting to see! Though the next couple of legs were very tough physically - the climb at the King, the canoeing, coupled with the stress of navigating in Thailand and China. I also can't see either of them coping with the ice wall in Alaska very well.

Yeah, there have been people who have noted that even if Nancy and Emily had hung in, the most likely outcome would have been them and Kevin and Drew battling it out to finish third, egregiously behind just like the Guidos ended up being, so there's an argument to be made that it worked out all right, honestly.

I get the impression that they were pretty glad to be out of it anyway. I don't think the difference between 4th and 5th (or even 3rd and 5th) would have mattered to them by that time.

It still makes me to sad to watch Nancy and Emily's final episode. However, that result did allow for a gripping battle for 3rd between the Guidos and Kevin and Drew. And it led to one of the greatest moments in Amazing Race history:
The Guido edit.

I don't think it would have mattered who ended up in 3rd because from the time difference it looks like a guido edit was inevitable for the 3rd place team.

I dunno, if there was a FF I mmediately available coming out of the Pit Stop for N&E, and they were able to do it right away (possible FF hours of operation) and complete it, not only would they bypass all tasks, but their hours of operation ,which utimately hindered K&D and practically killed The Guidos chances.
Didn't N&E finish only an hour or 2 at most behind K&D?? If so, and they had gotten on the bus right away after losing the FF to Team Guido, they might of been that much closer to K&D, so they could of been at least able to do the King the next leg, and.....ah I'm babbling, and just wishing that K&D and N&E had both just went for the bus right away instead of doing what they did.
