Not strictly speaking UPN, but ENT starts on Monday at 8pm on Sky One over here. They're showing The Expanse and then The Xindi. I'm so excited! I finally get to hear the "new, improved" theme tune.

I'll be watching Enterprise on Monday night on Sky too PrettyButterfly. I've already seen all of season three, but there's nothing like watching Enterprise on Sky. Nobody does splitting the screen at the very end of the episode and having that annoying voice-over lady announce the next show and thus ruining any poignancy I might have felt at the ending of First Flight thank you very much quite like Sky!

Geez. They can't do that during the credits? It's what they do on this side of the pond- so I have to wait for the Sunday repeat to hear the credits theme, far better than the opening one.

Let me just vent for a moment. I am _thisclose_ to hating UPN as much as FOX. Not only did Enterprise get sportsed this week, they changed the post-nightly news schedule from what was listed on the guide. So I managed to tape all of the last 9 minutes of the episode. Would TiVo have prevented this? Too bad I'm broke. Now I'm forced to figure out if and when UPN will replay it this weekend.

And whether the affiliate and/or network bothers to update the schedules when shows get sportsed. From what I've heard from TiVo users, if they want to catch all of something that's either a live event, or follows one, they usually have to program some additional taping time before or after the program's normally scheduled time.

I think that the move is pretty sensible. I mean, Smallville's the competition that ENT's been worried about, ratings-wise. And I also didn't get the impression that it's permanent. I think they want to try it out and see how it goes first. You'd think they'd do it at a time when things aren't just in reruns. Oh, well.
I'm worried about the show but I think that although I like Angel, its ratings aren't too high this year and it probably doesn't draw *too* much of the same audience.

What about Thursdays? The only night the past couple of weeks that I've actually had time to sit in front of the tv was Thursday and all I could see that was on was Tru Calling.
I watch Angel and The O.C. too (well, record them most of the time).
Gilmel

Thursdays at 8:00 is the final season of Friends, a ratings jugernaut, Will and Grace and C.S.I. at 9:00, and Scrubs at 9:30.

Thursdays is out because of Smackdown.
Friday might be a good move (come on, how many Star Trek fans go OUT, seriously ;) ). The competition on all the other networks gears toward family fare and serious dramas. All UPN ever runs is movies on that night anyway.
plus a Friday move means that fans still tuning in on Wednesday could be rerouted without missing an episode.
Why not run new episodes on Friday and re-runs on Wednesday? Do a re-run of Enterprise on Friday at 8, new episode at 9. Run a re-run on Wednesday after Top Model reruns. At this point, UPN's just filling the schedule. Maybe try to build up some of that lost Star Trek audience that carried Voyager.

Actually, as TWOP discovered long ago, Friday is never a good night for shows regardless of what I think of that sentiment.

Thursdays...Scrubs at 9:30.
(Psst,
Gilmel. Check the
Scrubs thread. It's moving to Tuesday).
UPN won't mess with either Thursday or Monday. Their Monday comedies aren't critically acclaimed, but they have a fanbase that knows where they are. Smackdown fans would probably follow it to any night of the week, but UPN's not going to mess with it, either. UPN's few Friday shows have attemtped to redefine the phrase "spectacular failure". Movie night's not going anywhere.
I'm not sure moving it later is right choice, though. Maybe the
Smallville competition is more serious than I know, but I think the other networks get more competitive at 9.
Plus, now I, personally, will have to tape either this or
Angel. Big pain.

VOY was on Wednesdays at 9:00 for all seven years, wasn't it? What made UPN decide to air ENT at 8:00 in the first place?
To keep with pure stereotypical generalizations, Trekkies go out on Fridays to be first in line at sci-fi/fantasy/comic book movies. I'm sure the RotK dragged a whole bunch of Trekkies out on a Wednesday night. It dragged me out, though I was not first in line. :)
Psst, Gilmel. Check the Scrubs thread. It's moving to Tuesday

This completely sucks. I already watch The O.C. on a regular basis (yummy Adam Brody) and I record West Wing. And know this? What a girl to do. I guess I could start recording Enterprise.
It would be hard on Enterprise since both Enterprise and Angel target the same fan base.

VOY was on Wednesdays at 9:00 for all seven years, wasn't it?
It was on Mondays at one point. I think at least its first season, if not more. And I seem to recall it bounced back and forth between 8 and 9 on Wednesdays.
Why 8? I think they've always tried to keep Trek more or less family-friendly, so they want to get the kiddies watching at the earlier hour. That seems to conflict with the "sexier" direction they promised at the beginning, but who ever said networks had to be consistent?
It would be hard on Enterprise since both Enterprise and Angel target the same fan base.
Moreso than
Smallville? I'd call it a coin toss, and the numbers seem to support that
Angel is the better choice to go up against. I don't think UPN's made the wrong choice re: WB (except for, you know, me personally). It's the other networks I'm worried about.

Argh. I agree that ENT going up against the OC and WW would be a good idea, rather than against Smallville, seems like the same audience. Thankfully I have a DirecTivo, i can record both The OC (mmm Rachel Bilson aka Summer) and ENT at the same time. Just gotta make sure that nobody touches the Tivo.

Ack! I've been watching TWW and Enterprise since the beginning, and look forward to my nicely-scheduled Wednesdays. As for Smallville, I've never seen an ep. and don't plan to. Same for the OC, though, so that's ok.
What a bummer. Now, if there were some kind of video-recording device with which I could record the shows...

Considering that ENT is the only show I make a point to watch, the move to 9 is a good one for me. I can get stinky-butt, rather my son, to bed and watch ENT in peace. Plus, we used to watch Smallville, but made the choice to watcht ENT instead. We tried taping Smallville, but never made the point of watching it. Now I can catch up with both of them.
And I think 9 PM is a better slot. It really is more of an adult show. And with people working later, and commuting farther, 8 seems so early. Heck, I'm barely finished with dinner by 8 PM; half the time we're rushing down to watch with our mouths still full.
But, I feel for those that are in a dilemma. At least we have the brilliant recaps, which are sometimes better than the episodes.
Edited to ask: Has anyone been able to watch in HighDefinition?

Jan 28, 2004 @ 10:06 am
The only thing the move to 8:00 means to me is that I'll have to tape the end, because I leave for work about 8:40PM. I haven't been watching West Wing all that much, and I'm not interested in any show about vampires or a show with a stupid title like The O.C. (I call it "the ock"). King of Queens is pretty good, but I watch it in syndie reruns. Another downside is now there's nothing much to watch at 7. I have no interest in Damon Wayans, Superman, or 60 Minutes Jr. I do like It's All Relative (despite the stupid title), though, so I'm set for 7:30. Anyway, Enterprise always repeats Saturday night so even when they preempt it for a basketball game, I can still catch it.

Crapola. Obviously the PTB at UPN are on a personal mission to make sure I have to watch Enterprise during the weekend airing and thus remain perpetually behind and unable to participate in the discussion on TWOP. Scheduling it opposite Smallville didn't work, since I was willing to miss the occasional Smallville ep if it looked like Enterprise was going to be good that night, so they had to go and put it opposite Angel, the one show I would not miss even if my house were falling down around me. Sundays at 9 it is, Paramount - are you happy now?

That's actually kind of stupid - they can't even really be testing out the new time-slot properly, because the show's in reruns the entire time we're in it. I don't know what that means, but I don't know that it's a good thing.

Wait, really? Because that's a whole different ball game. Given the state of TV these days, it's somewhat rare to get any reruns. A lot of shows just get their reruns replaced with a reality show.

From the Stratagem thread:
The preview for next week's episode: OY. After bitching that there haven't been any previews, the UPN promo monkeys remind us why we shouldn't miss them.
UPN had a radio ad for Top Model this morning so my ears perked up to listen for any mention of Enterprise. Sure enough: "But first, on Star Trek Enterprise: Here's a Vulcan who breaks all the rules!" Mr. b's reaction? "I don't want a Vulcan who breaks all the rules. I want a nice, calm, logical Vulcan that is rational. Who'd've thought that Spock would end up the best one when he's halfsie?" And then he broke into Cher singing
Halfbreed.

Just when the show is getting good and I actually look forward to it (despite the skeevy previews), they have to go and pre-empt it. Grrr. Big hate to SEC basketball, because WB pre-empted Angel for it tonight, too.

Ironically, while previews featuring Jolene Blalock's naked backside may have sparked veiwer interest in "Harbinger", the scene was cut more discreetly than the preview aired for the episode last Wednesday on UPN.

That's funny because I saw a promo around 4:30 Wednesday afternoon that still was showing the butt shot, but they crop it during the actual airing. I didn't even notice they had altered it because I was watching Connor Trinneer's stunned expression and not Blalock's butt.
