I can't find a thread about the music, but I have the theme song running around in my head. Does anyone know if the band Tatu ever did a version of the "I am the son, I am the heir..." song? I have it on their CD and I can't figure out if it is the same song or not. A lot of the lyrics are the same, but there are a lot of changes.
Bump.

t.A.t.U. did indeed cover "How Soon Is Now?" Other versions include those by The Smiths (the original), Love Spit Love (The Craft and Charmed), and Snake River Conspiracy (on their Sonic Jihad album).
Edited because "rive" and "river" are two entirely different words.

I noticed the song was in The Wedding Singer. Anyone know which version that was?

The Smiths, which makes sense, given the 80s setting.
Edited because it suddenly struck me as funny that we're talking about Morissey in a thread called "Calling All Ovaries."

My favourite Charmed musical moment is Bush's Letting The Cables Sleep, playing over Piper and Leo's end moment in Astral Monkey.

Oh, Jesus. I heard a lot of songs today that came from Charmed episodes on my way back home or reminded me of Charmed episodes. It was as if they were stalking me (i.e., "She's So High" from Wicca Envy, that damn Flaming Lips song from Sam I Am, that song from Slut!Piper's bar dance from Coyote Piper), not to mention the fact that "Blinded by the Light" and "Venus" were also on.
To be more on topic, I can't seem to get this song from the travelogue from Which Prue Is It, Anyway? out of my head. What is the name of the song and the artist?

"Teardrop" by Massive Attack, featuring Portishead if memory serves. It is off of their Mezzanine album.
ETA Oops. Memory didn't serve. I just looked it up and it features vocals from Elizabeth Fraser of Cocteau Twins fame. I really like that song. I think it might be my favorite Massive Attack tune.

So it is "Teardrop", then? Freaky. I love that song, but had no idea it was on Charmed before. I heard it on some other TV show, which I really can't remember the name of. Damn. It was playing when one of the characters was about to kill herself by jumping out on front of a train. Meh. I have a memory like a sieve.

So I'm trying to get some work done and the song that ran over the travelogue in Witch Trial won't stop running through my head. I think it's by Luscious Jackson, but I don't really know their music. Does anyone have an opinion on them and their other stuff? 'Cause I can't stop singing "la, la, laaa-aa-aa lala"...(that would be the song from Witch Trial, in case you didn't recognize it). Thanks.

That's "Ladyfingers" by Luscious Jackson during the travelogue of "Witch Trial." I like them all right. For some reason, a bunch of soundtracks I bought in ninth grade, I think, had random songs of theirs and I got to like their music through that. Favorite albums of would be 1996's Fever In Fever Out, which had probably their most well-known hit "Naked Eye," and their LP In Search of Manny. Their other albums are rather mediocre in my opinion.

What was the name of the song Steadman sang in the episode they were in? And did they also sing the travelogue song? I'm drawing a blank on the title of the episode right now.

That was the episode Soul survivor and according to the WB website the song was No big deal from the album Revive.
They didn't play them during the travelogue, I don't think there was one.

What is the music playing over the tiny travelogue just after the "our love is transcendent" scene in Oh My Goddess Pt II? I've always liked that song.

I'm not one to usually notice the music on this show, but I've got to say that I loved the ovary singing during the opening travelogue in Mata Whori, enough for me to actually download the song. If I'm not mistaken, it's the same woman who sang the song at Andy's funeral, no?
Maracev1
Feb 5, 2004 @ 11:22 am
No, the ovary singing for Mata Whori is Sarah McLachlan. They have used her songs before. In season 1 they had one of her songs in the Feats of Clay episode and in season 2 they used her song I love you for Piper and Leo in P3H2O.
I think the one in Andy's funeral is called Jane something. I don't remember her name, but it's not the same singer.
Demian
Feb 5, 2004 @ 12:37 pm
Where'd you download it? I've been trying, but I keep getting the fakes her record company splattered all over Kazaa.
And no, I'm not pirating. I'm sampling to see if I want to buy the CD. Though I get the feeling said CD's levels of estrogen are such that I risk sprouting boobs.

Feb 5, 2004 @ 1:26 pm
Demian, you can listen to all of "Fallen" at her
official website and one-minute clips of the rest of the songs from
Afterglow, if you are interested.
I know no one asked for my opinion, but I'm going to give it anyway because music is my thing. I think that her current album
Afterglow is only mediocre compared to her earlier stuff. A really good Sarah McLachlan album is her 1993 album
Fumbling Towards Ecstasy or 1991's
Solace. And I don't think her music is particularly estrogen-heavy. But I'm a girl so I might be biased.

Hee. As I was reading that review, "Fallen" came on the radio.
Edited to add: Success! Also, after really listening to the song, I don't think I'll be buying the album. She comes perilously close to ululating at certain points in the song. I can't imagine forty of fifty minutes of that.

Does anyone know who played that bizarre pseudo-Middle Eastern music at the beginning of the new genie episode?
Demian

I don't believe it was from an actual album. I think it was just episode-specific underscoring commissioned by the producers from someone who specializes in that sort of thing.

So when a show uses an existing song as its theme, how does that work? Does the artist get a flat fee or do they get something whenever the show airs? What about the writer of the song?

Liz Phair - Take a Look
ETA: Maybe it's just because everything is reminding me of him right now, but I think Seether - Fine Again applies to Chris's struggle and demise rather poignantly
maybe we could have a contest or a poll or something to try to find the best Chris song. Someone already said Staind - For You was a really good song for Leo and Chris's relationship.

I'm putting together a cassette of Charmed songs and have a question. According to the list
here it says Stevie Nicks' I Miss You plays over the opening credits for Charmed Again. On my tape of the show, there is no travelogue. Did I miss it?
I can't find the song "Courage" by Sarah Polley. Any suggestions?
butonbandit11
May 27, 2004 @ 12:05 pm
On my episode (downloaded from suprnova) it has it. It's not so much a travelogue as just some clips of the bridge and downtown San Francisco since they have so many guest stars. It's really noticible though, so perhaps your station had to cut it for some reason.

Did you try looking for the soundtrack of
