If I've had a bad day, I just put in the episode that features Kirk's movie and all is good.
Last night's episode had a serious lack of Kirk.

A Film by Kirk is great, and I love all those moments mentioned above, but I really love Kirk finding some termites in the Dragonfly (while inspecting for termites) and then "running" away - dork run by Kirk is classic.

Kirk: I aspire to be as great as Kirosawa.
Lorelai: Ah, “Seven Samarai.”
Kirk: What?
Lorelai: "Seven Samarai." It's a great Japanese movie directed by Kirosawa.
Kirk: No, excuse me, I'm sorry, did I say Kirosawa? I meant Akiba Sawa. The guy who directed all those episodes of “The Facts of Life.”

This is my favourite Kirk moment. I don't even remember the context anymore, but the words make me laugh.
Kirk: Well, first I read the sign and then I tried the door in case it was some sort of elaborate ruse.
Lorelai: Designed to keep only you out?
Kirk: There's precedent.
Hee!

New favourite Kirk moment: Kirk and his little bike service. When Lorelai and Rory got out and Kirk said, "It wasn't me, it was my cargo. Freshman Fifteen!!" It was hilarious, because Alexis Bledel could stand to gain about fifteen pounds!

i loved catkirk, i think. Was that the one when the cat kept attacking him? Heh. He got soooo beat up by that thing.
I also loved when he got a girlfriend and they had dinner at luke's. Because that was just really cute.

i can't believe no one has mentioned the T-SHIRTS! that is my fave kirk moment. i still want to make myself a shirt that says "babette ate oatmeal" because that is priceless.
although a close runner up is from last week's episode when lorelai asks about lucille ball stamps, and kirk says, "yes, i have some balls." YAY!
musicalactress, kirk is my fave townie too; in fact, on especially dull episodes, he's my fave character overall.

I just got the season one DVDs and ever since Kirk popped up in one of the episodes as a DSL installer and the next episode as a swan deliveryman, I have been playing "spot the Kirk" in every episode since then. It's such an amusing game.
I enjoyed Kirk's take on the maypole dancing tonight and his description of how he perfected the art of maypole dancing from the Men Without Hats "Safety Dance" video. Hee!

more like a maybe-not pole! i was hoping they'd have a confrontation between kirk and the other dance captain - maybe a dance off!

After my seventh rewatching of last night's finale, I think I've found my fave Kirk moment of all time (as of today)
Kirk and Luke in Luke's apartment
KIRK: I mean we've had sex. Lots and lots of sex.
LUKE: And this is even more uncomfortable!
KIRK: We just haven't actually.....spent the night together.
LUKE: Why not?
KIRK: I have night terrors.
LUKE: Night terrors?
KIRK: Basically, I freak out at beddy bye......
Bwah!
eta - this entire scene is hilarious

From the season finale: (in addition to rosjaq's post)
I'm loving the Kirk:
K: I spelled it out in chocolate covered oreos once, but she was really hungry, and I'm not sure if she read it first. I can't assault her before I tell her I love her.
K: What if I ninja-kick her or lock her in the bathroom with the pillow?
K: Unless when you come in, it looks like you shouldn't pull me off of Lulu. I'll let you use your judgment on that one.
K: Is Luke here yet? He's coming right? He'll be here before I go to sleep? It's a guy thing.
K: Bring some pliers in case simple yanking doesn't do it.
M: I am not yanking the pictures of the wall!
K: Well apparently you've never been in love!
Nice use of Kirk on this one. He didn't annoy me or go overboard.

This scene had me in hysterics. By the time Kirk gets to "what if I ninja-kick her..." I was roaring, and by the time he gets to "don't touch my bottom or I'll think you have a machete," tears were pouring down my face, and I wasn't breathing quite right. I don't know how Scott Patterson held it together in that scene. Luke's reactions to Kirk are such a nicely judged combination of squicked out and "ignore him and eventually he'll go away" - but I can't help wondering what the out-takes must be like. I think it's Kirk's flat, matter-of-fact, nearly affectless delivery that kills me.
Seriously, does Sean Gunn kiss his agent
on the mouth whenever they meet? Because Kirk is a gift - a character actor's motormouthed dream of a part!

"He's not my father. My father's my father. He's just my Taylor." Punch!Drunk!Kirk is like... stream-lined Kirk. A fine crop yeild from Columbia, a nickle more per ounce than regular Kirk.
When Kirk asks Lorelai out, and says, "You're about the prettiest girl I've ever seen," I go "Awwwww!" It's so sweet, so childlike, like a kid with a crush on his teacher.
I love Kirk and Luke banter, cuz Luke tries so hard to be nice to Kirk, but Kirk just zings Luke every time a freaky comment.

Naked!Kirk is perhaps my favorite moment. The look on his face is priceless. I didn't think it would be possible to steal the L/L kiss scene, but he did.
Now for those of you out there who do not enjoy the Naked!Kirk and say things like:
How could anyone with all their chromosomes intact want to see Kirk's naked body?
I have to offer a defense. Naked!Kirk isn't sexy. Not remotely. There's nothing exciting about it. That's why it's so great. Because it's funny as hell. Because it's not disgusting either. It's just sort of... there. Disgusting is, well, disgusting. Sexy is sexy. Naked!Kirk somehow manages to be neither, which makes the naked into a purely comic thing. I love it.

Oh no! - Kirk is not remotely sexy. He's just so goddamned funny!! I still curse him on a regular basis for interrupting the 3rd kiss. But I still love him like a freaky brother.
Fave Kirk moments was when he found out he was Jesus in the "Festival of Living Art" -
LORELAI: What'd you get, Kirk?
KIRK: Christ in "The Last Supper."
LORELAI: The big kahuna.
KIRK: I'm gonna do it right, too. Lots of research. What's a good book to read?
LORELAI: Uh, the bible?
KIRK: Right. Yo, where are my apostles? Where are my homeboys? James, son of Alpheus, give me five.
JOE: All right.
KIRK: Simon, the Canaanite, don't leave me hanging. I say we go celebrate. How 'bout Shakey's?
And when he was explaining his night terrors to Luke -
KIRK: I had to get out of the room before he got me, so I jumped out of bed and locked my pillow in the bathroom.
LUKE: Why?
KIRK: Because it was a bomb.
LUKE: Of course.
Hee!

Sorry if this was address before. In the beggining of season one, in the second episode and the third one, the actor that plays Kirk did some small roles as other character, right?
In the second episode of season one, The Lolerais's First Day at Chilton, when Emily orders cable to Lolerai's house, to speed internet acess, the person of the cable company was him. His name was Mark or Jack, don't recall correct. He wasn't weird at all as Kirk is. It was right after Babete calls Lolerai in her cell to tell someone is trying to break in her house and she goes to see and it's the cable company. Does anyone remember that, can anyone back up that it was, in deed, the actor that plays Kirk?
And in the third episode of season one, Kill Me Now, right outside the Independence Inn, a guy deliveries two swans for a weeding Lolerai is hosting at the Inn. The guy, is the actor. And Michel is forced to lead him to the lake, to put the swans in. It's funny cause Lolerai asks the "preparing to be" Kirk character if he knows the way to the lake. She says "do you know the road you got to come here" and he goes "no". Heheh.
Does anyone remember that?

Jul 6, 2004 @ 4:59 pm
Yeah, I noticed that actually. I think his name was Mick the Cable guy. The swan delivery boy didn't have a name but it was almost a very Kirk-y character. I think he was first introduced as Kirk in the grocery store when he scolded Miss Patty for eating the vegetables ("Cinnamon's Wake"). But what confused me was that Kirk in that episode said he was new in town and didn't know Miss Patty. But I always thought Kirk's lived in Stars Hollow forever.
I figure they didn't really plan on developing the Kirk character...

tereza, this has already been brought up in some other thread - I guess it was in the Nitpicking the Gilmore Girls thread. Those two guys were Sean Gun, and he only became officially Kirk a little later in season 1. In The Lolerais's First Day at Chilton, he was Mick, the cable guy, and in Kill Me Now he was the swan guy.

This isn't really a favorite Kirk moment, but I found an old videotape that had 'face off' on it. Taylor is describing his family to Lorelai, and he says they're light sleepers and prone to night terrors. Finally the elusive proof! Taylor is Kirk's father!

Oh, there are a lot of great Kirk moments.
Film by Kirk made my dad laugh, and he usually doesn't watch tv shows, so it was really funny. But my personal fav are cat-Kirk and "maybe not-pole", and, of course, night-terrors speech to Luke. I'll pay to see the screwed up takes of this scene.
Oh, and i think I need a t-shirt. I'm not really sure if I prefer "babette ate oatmeal" or "Faux Poes foes" because both cracks me up.

I am pretty sure that when he asked Miss Patty if she was planning on paying for the food she ate while in the store he intoduced himself to her as "Mick" (I remember this, or think I do, because I didn't see this episode until I got the S1 DVDs and I thought "Hey that's Kirk, did they change his name after this episode?)

Mar 3, 2005 @ 9:13 pm
Yeah, his name was definitely Kirk when he introduced himself to Miss Patty, but he also introduced himself as the new Assistant Manager (I think) so I don't think that he was our Kirk at that point. There's also the fact that he had to introduce himself at all since he apparently didn't know who Miss Patty was, so he was kind of non-Kirk at that point.
I loved how Kirk stayed in the diner and ate the gross food. I think it was partly just because he's strange, but mostly because he loves Luke. I love watching Luke and Kirk interact together, actually. I saw AATR on the W Network (in Canada) today, and the Luke/Kirk scenes were great - particularly Luke's little non-pep-talk when Kirk is freaking out because his date is actually going well.
