OH my mom got FIRED today, and to let you know she is extremly hard working, I am so mad right now, the bastards, she would come home stressed out every day because she was the only one who ever did anything around there, well I guess they will find out now huh?
Have fun Yogi!

Oh, Woody, give your mom a hug for me. I am sure she will find something way better really soon. *unappreciative bosses SUCK*
Yay, it's meet yogi and the TC SMMers day!!! I am leaving here by 10:15 this morning, I swear. I gotta get outta town! Work in general? Sucks. Goofing off with good friends all weekend? Rules!
I want a Legolas baby doll T-shirt. Think they have them in Minneapolis?

Some of her behavior with her child has been so strange
Values can really collide between friends when it comes to so many things, with children probably topping the list. You are such a good friend,
yogi, trying to be so generous & understanding with her. Would she be insulted to ruination if you told her you loved both her & her baby, but that you just want to spend the time at the restaurant alone with her, without the child? I'm sure you've been grappling all along with how to convey that without offending. Sometimes there's no way not to offend, though. <sigh> Be sure to tell us how you manage to resolve this sticky situation -- might be helpful in the future!
I'm off to visit some SMMers in Minneapolis tomorrow morning!
What a great idea! Have a great time, you all. Wish I were going! What a fab city!
heidihug,
suctionprints,
yogi, and everyone else, have an extra glass of champagne for me!
Woody, what bum news about your mom! Is she a bit relieved at the same time, that she doesn't have to deal with those bozos anymore? I hope she finds a fabulously wonderful new job, with oodles more cash & great people! Also:
the baby doll thing isnt for halloween
Where ya gonna wear it? What a hoot. And
PiP, you've got one of these, too? I must get with the times. But I think I'd rather have one with Captain Jack on it. Johnny rates higher on my swoon quotient.
Edited bcuz I apparently forgot how to write in English.

Hey, everyone, I'm Tipp. I'm new to the forums, and I'm a friend of Chikochamp, who recommended me to the site. (She, by the way, hasn't posted in ages because she's having trouble getting her account re-validated since she changed e-mail addresses) I'm male, and I'm the same age as her, live near her and everything. Hey, Tipp! I'm PiP, I'm from Oregon and live in a house by the Columbia River.
George Bush AND John Kerry blessed us with a visit today. Woo. Hoo. I was sooo fusterated at the coverage. Most stations kept switching back and forth between Bush and Kerry, but they all switched at the same time, so I didn't see either's complete speech. Sucks. So, I'm interested, what do people here think of Bush/Kerry? I like to hear different opinions.
Woodlock, that totally sucks for your mom!! What the crap were they thinking!?! Where did you get this lovely Legolas shirt? I heart Orlando. Although Johnny Depp does give him a run for his money. Have you seen Secret Window, Samina? I liked it.
Hey, all you people meeting today! I expect a full report when you have time!

Tipp of the mornin' to you! Welcome to MM. I was wondering what happened to Chikochamp - please say hi to her for us and hope she can post with us again soon. Anyway, nice to meet you!
Woody sorry to hear about your mum, but if she was such a good worker she's better off being somewhere with people who appreciates all she does. And it sounds like her former place of employment did not. Hope she finds a much better job with lots more money, and great people - remember, success is the best revenge!
It's Little Big Aussie's 12th birthday today, and he's having four of his friends to sleep over. We're taking them bowling, and then for pizza. This time tomorrow I'll probably be half crazed, but at least I haven't had to do too much cooking etc. And then I get to do it all again for Littlest Aussie's 4th birthday next weekend.
All you SMM'ers meeting up today - have a great time!

Happy Birthday to Little Big Aussie! And Littlest Aussie next weekend. I love birthdays. And bowling, even though I'm terrible at it. I think the highest score I ever got was something like 123. Yup. This coming from the girl whose father was captain of his college bowling team.
Actually, Teena, John Kerry is suppose to stay here in Oregon for awhile. No more speeches though. He says he plans on windsurfing (!) in the Gorge tomorrow.

Well, I'm taking a few minutes out from the party. All is going well, we've had the bowling, the pizza and the birthday cake, the boys are all behaving pretty well, if a bit noisy, but at least better than last year (when they had their burping and farting contests etc).
Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone, it's so incredible - it feels just like yesterday that he was a wee little baby.....! Now of course, he's taller than me!

Hey,
Tipp -- welcome to the boards! I'm in NJ & am relatively new myself. Great group of folks here!
PiP, I did indeed see Secret Window. I thought Johnny did a great job. He's somethin', I tell ya. But much prefer watching both Legolas & Captain Sparrow in Pirates -- poetry in motion on both accounts, in my book!
As far as Kerry/Bush, they seem to me like two sides of the same coin. To my mind, they seem to have the same king-makers, money, & agenda driving them. FWIW, however, I've read that in every presidential race in history, the candidate with the
bluest blood has always won, and Kerry's is bluer than Bush's, so if that is truly the judge, Kerry will be the winner. I also find it fascinating that they're actually
cousins (9th, twice removed), in addition to being members of the same exclusive Skull & Bones.
Woody, my youngest son loves Hot Topic, so I've had occasion to go there a few times. That's a colorful little place!
AussieGirl, I watched the Olympics tonight & saw that Australia did very well in swimming! Kudos! And that tall drink o' water Thorpe made me a little weak in the knees -- what a doll! I wonder how he & Phelps (our own Aquatic God) will square off later this week! I find their long sculptured bodies absolutely mesmerizing... <fanning self>

Samina, you are preachin' to the choir. Yumm on both accounts. I could watch Johnny Depp read a phone book and I'd be fasinated. Pitter-patter, pittper-patter goes my heart.
Bush? Terrible. He "announced" his plan yesterday to deepen the Columbia River. Does he not realize what the environmental impacts of that are going to be? And where the heck is he going to put all of it? I just don't see the pros of his plan. And as a daughter of not one, but two teachers, his education plans are HORRIBLE. Yes, No Child Left Behind could've been a good idea, but he gave NO funding to support it! If he spent just 1/4 of what he did in Iraq, education would be in much better shape. This stuff just gets my blood boiling.
Speaking of education.... where my mom works, at the local HS, their negotations have reached an impasse. So there is a possiblity of a teacher strike. Basically, the school district is treating the teachers like crap. They have the money to support the unions proposed contract, but won't cough it up. And they hide it too! I just can't believe they can do that! On the good side, the IRS is investgating the district! Well, I guess it's not good news, but maybe they will finally get busted for doing things they aren't suppose to. That's another thing that just steams my rice. Got to stop talking about these things! It's not good for my blood pressure.
Hot Topic? Love that store! And man oh man, some of those guys that work there.. yumm. Is it like that everywhere, or just in Oregon/Washington? And YaY! for your mom, Woody!!

Oh dear swimmers, all I can say is yay for speedos, heh.
I've noticed that a lot of the swimmers are wearing super-streamlined full-body suits during competition. They really highlight the freakishly long & godlike physique of many of them as they tunnel through the water.
Gawuh-juss! I wonder what they're made of that decreases the drag to less than skin alone. I know nothing of such things.
Well, a Sunday afternoon of cleaning beckons--albeit not very convincingly. Wish I could blink my eyes or twitch my nose, a la late-60s TV icons, to blast past the chores!

First, apologies for having been away (well, not away, but silent) for so long. You've all been wonderful company, even though I've been sitting in the corner making nary a peep.
AussieGirl - what a tragedy about your friend and her child. And what a good friend you are. My heart goes out to both of you.
Hi to friends new and old - samina, AlmondEyes, Hildy, PiP, Woodlock, Ricci, and everyone else. So glad you're all here!
The YogiCon was so much fun! I envy you, samina (and who else? - AlmondEyes?) that you haven't met yogi yet and are going to have the opportunity soon. It's kind of like when there's a book you love and your best friend hasn't read it yet, and you know what pleasure they're going to get. You don't need me to tell you how vibrant and thoughtful and funny and smart yogi is, but let me just say that it's exponentially better in person!
And heidihug is my new hero. She's so kind and funny and knowledgeable and creative.
It was great to see the wonderful suctionprints and TraceyBee (and Mr. B.) again, too. We ate LOTS - dim sum (yum yum, tm suctionprints), Swedish meatballs at Ikea, nummy cookies from Little Italy courtesy of yogi and cookies and kuchen from the kitchen of heidihug, and a barbecue at my house thanks to Mr. Lu. And we drove around the lakes, saw the Mary Tyler Moore house, went to gardens, and watched several episodes of TAR 1 thanks to the generosity of our friend col. AND woodlock called, so we got to talk to the sweet elf himself.
I hope that was just the first of many MMCons to come and that we all get to meet sometime.

Samina, Ian Thorpe, or "Thorpedo" as we call him, is the best swimmer in the world, IMO. He's absolutely amazing. And so young. When he competed at the Olympics in Sydney, he was just 17, and just blasted away the competetion. And apparently, he's a really nice guy too. The whole world is waiting to see he and Phelps square off. Australia is coming second in the gold medals right now, just behind China. It's the swimmers who do it for us.
Hot Topic? I wish I knew what you were all talking about....
And Samina you mentioned both Bush and Kerry being memebers of the same exclusive Skull and Bones - what is that? I hope that Kerry wins. Over here, there are reports that our Prime Minister will call an election before the US elections in November, the reasoning being that if the US went first, and Bush lost (which surely must happen), then many people here would lose confidence in our PM and not vote for him. But I don't think he'd win anyway, not after the war in Iraq.
PiP many people slam teachers and say they get too many holidays etc, but I think they do one of the most important jobs in the world, and should be paid far more than they are. They treat teachers here like crap too. I think the whole issue of education is so vitally important for our childrens' future, and it's just sad to see our world leaders not give it what it requires to really make a difference.
Babalu what a wonderful SMM con!!! It sounds like you all had the best time together! And all that great food.....

Oh, yes, the Thorpedo. I remember him. So yummy. I was watching men's gymnastics, saw a guy do the splits and just went "ahh! How does he do that!" It just seems like it would hurt.
It seems like my friends that live in France want Kerry to win too. They just despise Bush.

Hey Gang at Meet Market
I can't say enough good things about the Twin Cities and our wonderful Twin City hosts, Babalu, suctionprints, and Tracey Bee! Heidihug and I were given the Grand Tour.
Our first stop was lunch at IKEA. Why? Because I didn't want to visit Minnesota without having tried a Swedish meatball. Now I know that I can have delicious ones at anytime from IKEA, which is right across from our hotel at the Mall of America. The food there is fabulous - we ought to know we tried a bit of everything, including Gravlax, poached salmon, seafood salad, and a pie that started angels singing in our heads with only one bite. Though it was only about a half an inch thick, it contained microscopic layers of toffee and custurd. OH.MY.HECK!
We had dinner at Babalu's house. Mr Lu is an excellent gardner. We enjoyed the profusion of flowers and baby orange tomatoes that were like sunbursts of flavor at a delicious barbeque. The original Babalu the cat beat a hasty retreat from our noisy group, but we did get a glimse of the famous feline. Speaking of favorite cats, we all met Sierra at the Bee house. She looks remarkably well, thanks in large part to the great love a care she receives from Tracey and Mr. Bee. What a sweetheart. She took a particular shine to suctionprints (understandably so) and jumped onto her lap for a visit. Oh, and during our Lu-a-que I got a phone call from my favorite Elf - no not Legolas, silly, Woodlock. It was almost like he was there!
Suctionprints treated the group to the culinary delight of Dim Sum (yum yum). My, that woman knows food!!! We all said the poem throughout brunch as we munched away on so much delicious food our stomachs groaned. We needed a walk.
So, The Bees took us on a tour of the beautiful gardens, including the Peace Garden, by one of the many lakes. I had no idea that Minnisota had such exceptional gardens. I always associate the area with snow! But we had a gorgeous day, and me, without my hat, got sunburned. Not to worry. A highlight was visiting the Mary Tyler Moore house. I now have a picture of myself in front a la Mary Richards. The house looks totally different, but as Heidihug pointed out, it has been thirty years, so don't we all?
We then had a TAR marathon, watching almost the whole first season of TAR 1. Alas, I could not make it through to the end as I had a flight out the next morning, and I dragged my sorry, sunburned, cookie filled self to bed at about 2 AM. Oh, don't tell me who won! (Kidding, I saw the whole series the first time.)
All I can saw is that to Know, Know, Know this gang is to Love, Love, Love them. What a great weekend of stories and laughter. I wish everyone could have been there. Maybe next year we can do a SMM that includes us all. I can assure you, that we had many kind thoughts for our SMM friends.
As far as Babalu's kind words about me - believe me, they better reflect her remarkably kind and generous spirit than anything else - heh. But still, thanks, my friend, and right back at 'cha!

I am against the full bodysuit swimwear - were are the Mark Spitz speedos of days gone by? And why do the male beach volleyballers wear loose tank tops and shorts when the women wear the world's smallest bikinis? Something's not exactly equitable here.

Oh, everything dear yogi said, and lots more. Yogi, BTW, is an excellent roommate - so generous and fun.
I have a story to tell about Tracey's favorite snack, crack. (One kind of which, as suction so kindly put, is like little bits of dried plum rolled in fine salt and red Koolaid powder. Except not that good.) Anyway, we "sampled" it while strolling through an expansive rose garden. Yogi - who, we were assured, had never done anything of the kind before - could not force her morsel of crack down and searched for a place to bury it (which distressed me, as I was worried about the health of the lovely rose bushes in the vicinity). I only took a nibble of each kind of crack and tucked the leftover chunks into my pocket. Then searched for water. Anyway, when I got home, I had many tales to tell Mr HH and the boys about the wonderful weekend. Then I produced the piece de resistance - the two little morsels of crack. I warned them to sample just the tiniest bit of each, which they did. The looks on their faces matched dear yogi's from the rose garden. The boys immediately ran for the milk, and Mr HH grabbed a bottle of cheap dry vermouth from the liquor cabinet with which to cleanse his palate. Didn't work. He tried some malt beverage, which worked a little better. We ultimately decided, after a family conference and spitting contest, that crack is actually dried plums, but is most likely created by coating it in the vilest kimchi liquid available (or, perhaps, vomit), then rolling it in fine salt. With all thanks to the lovely and kind Tracey - kids, crack is whack.

Sounds like a great trip/hostess time, guys!
iMissethan, I, too, am appalled at the beach volleyball wear for women - I saw waayyyy more tush than I needed flipping about last night. And the speedos on Olympic swimmers are the only kind I like.
Well, it looks like I won't make any thing this week - I got pretty sick (saw my temp go above 103!) this weekend & have strep, which I haven't had in years. So I'm homebound for a couple days and then need to take it easy. Sad. But at least Mommie Dearest is on right now!

And why do the male beach volleyballers wear loose tank tops and shorts when the women wear the world's smallest bikinis?
Because life is totally unfair.
I have to say, I don't mind the full-body "sharkskin" swimsuits. Even though they cover the skin, they don't leave a whole lot to the imagination.
You've heard a lot about the TC Con already, but I'll just add that it was great fun! I did try to convince the rest of the TWoPpers that the crack seed that dear
Babalu had brought me from her most recent trip to Hawai'i is a delicious snack, but they were having none of it. I believe they may think I tried to poison them. Alas, like lutfisk, crack seed must be a taste best acquired when quite young. But then, I was eating jellyfish at the dim sum restaurant, too. (What are you looking at me like that for? It was good! Nice and spicy.)
ETA: Heidi and I were posting at the same time. No one likes my crack seed? *sigh*

I'm here to tell you, Heidihug has got it - crack is whack. It was the most repulsive thing I have ever tasted, so bad that I did, as Heidihug reported, spit it out most inelegantly. I'm telling you though, had I not, things would have been worse. I adore our Tracey Bee, but I can no longer support her crack habit!
Poor skagirl! I'm sorry to hear you are sick. I hope you feel better very, very soon. On the other hand, I would very much like to see the drunken elf dance our Woodlock is threatening to perform. So if you stay sick, I might be visiting....
I had a great day. My friend, a jewelry designer, is at the Javitz center for a show right now. Because she lives in London, and I miss her, I went to the show to hang out with her and "help out", which is to say, I tried on on her jewelry and told everyone who came by what a great talent she is. Anyway, as I was leaving, she put the most beautiful citrine bracelet on my wrist as a gift. I was completely blown away. She had two important clients there or I would have cried, I was so touched. First a kick ass weekend with my friends from the north and now this. What a good, good week I am having! I hope you all are having a good one too!

I'm so glad you all at the TC SMM had such a great time! The rose garden & dim sum sound like they were both fab! Regarding the crack seed, maybe you should email MB, TraceyBee, about using it in one of the Survivor "delicacy" challenges! My question to yogi & heidihug: Could you have swallowed the whole kaboodle for a mil? If not, I think we're onto somethng that should be on S10!
I overheard someone at work saying that the Thorpedo won his first face-off with our Phelps. Kudos to Thorpe & the Aussies! I think Phelps has plenty of opportunity to win his own gold -- he has 6 more competitions, with something like 18 races scheduled in 8 days!
Well, am heading home to start packing my kids up for their first solo trip to Florida on Wednesday (staying with my folks). After a week there, they go to their dad's for a week & a half, so I'm going to have some serious solo time myself. But gotta get through the laundry, first!

Welcome home from Fort Worth,

Crack is the worst. Seriously. I have never felt the need to spit anything out in my life, early training in this area was quite strict in my house. There is no way I could have consumed this. Honestly, I can't imagine how Tracey Bee does it. Plus, she enjoys it! Wow, she's Wonder Woman, that's for sure!
I'm really interested in the drunken elfin dance....
Hope today is better, skagirl, and if not, I hope you have another really good film to watch like my personal favorite, Arthur. (Don'cha just hate Perry's wife? Perry, you're a dead man! Sorry, you're a hedge.) Or maybe something fun like Roman Holiday?
Oh, I saw the remake of Lion in Winter last night with Glenn Close and Patrick Stewart. Though the original with Katherine Hephburn and Peter O'Toole is an all time favorite, I enjoyed this version as well very much. (Will you ever stop hating me? How can I? It's what I live for!) Maybe you can catch a repeat on TV, skagirl.

Cherry/Spoon—A cautionary tale about the evils of gambling. Wherein Rob, of Team Esquire, the team that won TAR1, put his hat up for sale on eBay. Miss Alli, who couldn't stand the hat, bet him that he wouldn’t get more than $500 for it. He did. She was then obligated, because she had lost the bet, to perform a poem cherishing the hat at the famous Cherry and Spoon statute in a park in Minneapolis. Rob then put his then-expired passport up for auction at E-Bay. Miss Alli offered a double-or-nothing bet that he could not get $300 for the passport. He did. She then became obligated to perform a second poem in honor of a visor which was worn by Brennan Swain, Rob's cohort in the Race.

Hee-hee, wish I'd been there to see it in person. Maybe there's a video of it on the net or something :P
My exam results are out tomorrow. My nerves are just now starting to go into overdrive. Last time I did a government exam I could barely open the freaking envelope, and this exam is far more important than that one. This annual exam will have been sat three more times by the time I find out my damn results.

I happen to love Lord of the Rings 1-3, with Two Towers as my favorite. Also, Harry Potter movies 1 & 2, but not 3. Err, trying to think. Ah, yes, Pirates of the Caribbean, Secret Window...Oh! Head Over Heels (I'm a sucker for Freddie Prince Jr.). And finally...... Dirty Dancing.

Welcome Tipp and best wishes for good test results. By the way, are you from Tipperaray? It's a long way to... Anyway, send my regards to Chicochamp. Tell her to come back soon.
Some of my favorite films....
Arthur (I know it by heart)
Godfather I and II (Don Corleone, RIP)
Babette's Feast (food porn)
Enchanted April (the best chick flick ever made!)
The Philadelphia Story (Katharine Hephburn - the queen)
Roman Holiday (Audrey Hepburn - the princess)
To Kill a Mockingbird (Gregory Peck and the first appearance of my favorite actor, Robert Duvall)
Tender Mercies (Robert Duvall's best film)
Lord of the Rings the Trilogy (I want to live in those films!)
Truly, Madly, Deeply (I fell in love with Alan Rickman in this film. The most romantic film ever!)
This is fun, Hildy!

Believe me, there is no video of the Cherry/Spoon performance. Fortunately. For everyone.
There were pictures, though. Very, very pretty pictures. (Not of me. Heh.)

So is there like a big statue of a cherry and a spoon, cause if so I thought there were some wierd statues here, and me being me I give them very creative names, such as Bronze Pig, Pig's on Wheels, and Flying Bus Thing.
Oh quick Poll thingy, What color should I dye my hair next?, and just for reference in October last year I accidently dyed my hair blue, I swear it was an accident.. Okay so I go and dye my hair black you know the shiny kind, but apparently when you dye your hair that color on top of light brown dye on top of blonde bleach, you really can't tell what it's suppose to turn out.

Yes! I was just coming here to ask about that...I've been looking forward to either meeting or seeing you all! I was wondering what the time and location was on Thursday, but I've been saving the date!
(And as a bonus, I'm pretty sure I'm going to be dragging a certain brat...er, lurker in this MM with me!)
I'm glad to hear the MNCon was so much fun! As far as me...play? Going well, aside from some technical glitches at Saturday's opening. We actually made the front of the NY Times Weekend section last Friday and we have a pic and blurb in HX Magazine. But it's been a great experience and I've impressed some valuable contacts, so there's been talk about both doing an actual run of this and other future projects, which would be awesome. (BTW, I don't feel comfortable posting specific details about it here--not that I don't trust all of you, but it's just an Internet comfort level thing--but feel free to email me for them, and I'll be bringing flyers with me if/when we meet.)
Job? SUCKS. STILL haven't rented anything, although if the showing I had tonight gets his guarantor's OK, that may change! I'll find out tomorrow. But I called my old temp agency just to check in because I REALLY need some income FAST!!! It's really starting to freak me out.
10 favorite movies? Wow. That's hard, because I like things in different ways...some on a legit level, some on a "so bad it's good" level, etc. But I guess this would be a good overall combo of all of the above:
Romy & Michele's High School ReunionDazed and ConfusedHeathersMagnoliaAmerican BeautyThe Best of EverythingValley of the DollsBest in ShowWhen Harry Met SallyFemale TroubleAnd, as a bonus, one made-for-cable miniseries:
Angels in America

Ciao Ragazzi! Yes I have returned. Yesterday I battled airplane flu and jetlag, and am now feeling a bit better (although I keep waking up at 2 in the morning!).
Quick rundown on trip: Yogi was right, it was really wonderful and lawyer-boy was on his best behavior. I remembered everything I liked about him and without work around to agitate him there was nothing I didn't like. We made a pact to work on things upon returning so we will see....
LB has 4 Aunts (Zias), 5 Uncles (Zios) and more than 10 cousins in Rimini. So we ate well every night and had lots of adventures. I already have a ton of digital pictures if anyone is interested in the historical stuff (arches and bridges and all) that I will attempt to post on "my website" (assignment for grad school).
What is the plan for Thursday? Whatever it is, I am in!
In other career news, I just heard that I received a big grant that I worked on for service-learning (community service). That's basically my passion so I am very excited.
Ciao

Dodo, sorry to hear that the job sucks, but happy to hear that the play rocks! You can tell me all about it at TARCon, right? (The thread is up, for anybody interested.) I just paypal'ed my $$$ in. I'm beyond excited. In fact, I must admit that I'm a little nervous. What's the neighborhood like around Madison Square Garden? Can I get a cab easily after the party? Etc. etc.
ETA: Yaaaay for Ricci and her grant! What great news!
