After watching The Order, I believe Peter Weller needs to be on Alias. Homeboy has grown downright cadaverous in the years since Buckaroo Banzai.

Some more candidates for Mommy!Sark, and some analysis. I've been promising this for a little while, now, so it's about time I post it (I have got some really weird-ass hobbies *shakes head*). First, some 'sacrificial lambs' in terms of Mommy!Sark casting 'rules' (and these are just my personal guidelines, but just so y'all know where I stand):
-alterable appearance is unimportant. I don't care if someone's not a natural blond and has brown eyes, as long as they can 'wig-and-contact' their way through it and convince me it's real.
-Lazarey had... what, grey eyes? blue-grey? I hear brown's dominant, but if someone can convince me that genetics would still allow Sark blue eyes under weird circumstances, I'll buy it... for a Susan Sarandon or other acting equivalent.
Down to it:
Susan SarandonAge: 57
Resemblance: Aside from having brown eyes and red hair? Still my top choice. For facial resemblance and just how she carries herself, her mannerisms are soooo 'Sark'. She can do dark blonde easily, so why not?
Acting ability: I don't think I need to elaborate too much here, just to say that Susan Sarandon can do damn near anything short of parting the ocean... her range is just amazing. She's agelessly sexy like Lena Olin, and can make any straight fangirl and gay fanboy question their sexuality every time she graces the screen (well, IMO). Who better to play the mother of a sexy, graceful, subtle villain than a sexy, graceful, subtle woman? I know I've also suggested her as Mommy!Reed, but I realized... that I don't care about Lauren's background that much. It would be a waste of Susan's talents. Sark deserves a backstory 100 times more than Lauren does.
Accent possibilities: I've never heard her with a British accent, but I know she's done some accents. I know she did a 'Russian' accent as Bart's ballet teacher on the Simpsons. Although it was exaggerated, that was purposeful. What matters is that it was consistant.
Does TV Guest Spots?: My favourite, giddy part...
yes. Simpsons, MadTV, Friends, Malcolm in the Middle... I would hope that Alias would also be a Susan-magnet, even though it isn't comedy, just for the caliber of it's cast and the intrigue of the plotlines.
Picture 1,
Picture 2,
Picture 3,
Picture 4Kristine SutherlandAge: 48
Resemblance: Good. She looks like she could be Susan Sarandon's sister. Blue eyes: no, but could work contacts convincingly. Blond hair: yes.
Acting ability: Well, she played Joyce Summers on 'Buffy', so: duh. Kristine is definitely good, and I'm pretty sure she can do a lot more than 'Joyce'. I think her acting style could really work on Alias. My only reservation is that she's on the young end of the necessary age bracket, and doesn't look older than her age. Of course, I might be convinced otherwise.
Accent possibilities: Don't know.
Does TV Guest spots?: Yes.
Picture 1,
Picture 2Swoosie Kurtz Age: 59
Resemblance: Passable. Blue eyes: yes. Blond hair: usually no, but can go blonde convincingly.
Acting ability: Good, but what I've seen of her work hasn't involved portraying an Alias-appropriate character. I think there's enough of a resemblance physically, and would like to know for sure, but what I've seen of her work doesn't show the right presence to play 'Mommy Sark', in my opinion. But then, I put her in here as the 'underdog' of sorts, because I have one basic concept of what Mommy!Sark would be like, while I'm sure others have different opinions, and I'm free to hear them.
Accent possibilities: Don't know.
Does TV Guest spots?: Yes.

Lina, I'm curious about the other 4 potential Sark!Moms. I've previously suggested Susan Sarandon for a guest spot (b/c I think she's an amazing actress, and it would be fun to see what she could on Alias (and w/Victor Garber's Jack!)) I think Swoosie Kurtz would be great too. I'm not familiar w/the other actress mentioned. Who are the others?
Mnemosyne
Jan 7, 2004 @ 2:24 pm
Yes, tell us the others! I could definitely see Susan Sarandon capable of the presence necessary for MommySark, and I wouldn't have thought of her. Nice.
Swoosie Kurtz, hmmm. I've only really seen her in comedic roles, so can't really say. It's hard to think of blond older women in the right age for this role. Plus, we don't really know "her" nationality, although I'm thinking Irish or English.

Big ole' word on the Susan Sarandon love. Not only is she one of the coolest people I've ever met, she's hot. To see her on the show in any role would kick ass.

Very interesting list, LinaBo. I think so far I like Susan Sarandon best. Marmee as Sark's mom, I love it. She really is an inspired choice. Not sure if I can see Kristine as mom, but then I always think of her either as Buffy's mom or as the mom in Honey, I Shrunk The Kids. I guess I haven't really seen her in much else. SK would never have occurred to me, I mostly remember her from Sisters, but I do like her a lot. Looking forward to the rest of your list.
My wishlist casting would be Natasha Richardson. Not going on any resemblance (or lack thereof), I just like her. She comes across as very elegant. Don't know how old she is though, may be too young.
On another note, I'm late chiming in, but gotta add to the Miranda Otto love. She would rock.

Here's the rest (previously typed into a notepad):
Others I'm looking into, but who's work I need to see more of because I'm either unworthy, can't remember seeing it, or haven't seen it at all. Feel free to contribute info, insight, opinions, what-have-you:
Judy Geeson: Spotted her on a rerun of Mad About You. Thought she was worth a look.
Picture 1Sissy Spacek: Sort of dawned on me as an entirely different choice with resemblance. I'm ashamed that I haven't really seen her in anything=\ Don't know if she would do TV, though.
Picture 1,
Picture 2Helen Mirren: Trying to hit the right age group, I hit IMDB's listing for 'Calendar Girls' for a talent pool (for some reason the 45-55 age range for good actresses is some sort of dead zone for potential Mommy!Sarks). She looks a bit too old, possibly, but who knows.
Picture 1 (she's in the pink),
picture 2Denise Crosby: I'm a former Trekkie/Trekker... whatever you'd call it (shut up, so is everyone else;P ). In any case, straining my brain for ideas, I thought 'what the hell happened to whatzernamewhoplayedwhozit... Yar?', and looked her up. She's still acting, but not in anything that anyone would really know. When she was younger, she was a dead ringer for a female version of Sark, which has me very interested.

I like the idea of Sissy Spaceck, Susan Sarandon, or Helen Miren, with my personal favorite for the role being Susan Sarandon, just because I think that she could do the best in terms of interacting with the rest of the cast.
JenMD Natasha Richardson was born in 1963, and even though DA was born in 1981 I believe that Sark is supposed to be more like 36 (the
Julian Sark trading card says Sark's presumed birth year is 1968), which would make it a little implausible for her to play Mama!Sark without a little help aging from the makeup dept. Then again this is Alias, so they could justify it by saying that she died 20 years ago and then this year she was brought back to life by the Rambaldi life juice.
LinaBo
Jan 7, 2004 @ 8:37 pm
Given that the ABC site says in the Sark profile says:
Age Unkown; estimated at mid to late 20's.
and the cards/magazine/etc tend to be choc full of inaccuracies... I'd take it with a grain of salt. '6' could easily be a typo of '7', which would be consistant with the ABC profile.
JenMD
Jan 7, 2004 @ 10:02 pm
Yeah, there's no way I believe that they intend Sark to be mid 30s (or older, depending on if the 2 year jump put us in the future or not). I've always figured his character to be mid 20s, somewhere around there. And since LO/JG managed a very credible mother/daughter relationship with only a 16 year difference, I could see a talented actress pulling off a similar age difference as Sark's mom.
LinaBo, very interesting rest of the list you've got. Really, really like your choice of Helen Mirren. She'd be fierce. And Judy Geeson. Wow, she's a great match, physically. Makes me wonder what David's real mom looks like. As for Sissy, I like her a lot, but I don't see Sark with a southern mom (and I don't think I've ever seen her not use her accent)(she's already got an Alias connection though...) :-)

Very cool,
Lina. I agree that Susan Sarandon would kick nine kinds of ass as Sark's mother. She's elegant, cool, and beautiful. Perfect match *applause*.
I hear brown's dominant, but if someone can convince me that genetics would still allow Sark blue eyes under weird circumstances, I'll buy it...
I actually posted the reason why that's possible in the
"Remnants" thread, fourth post from the top. Hope that helps you.
LinaBo
Jan 8, 2004 @ 12:57 am
Thanks, I've copied that into my notepad... I think it would be cool if Susan Sarandon was on, and as Mommy!Sark made some comment about how Sarky inherited so-and-so's blue eyes. I know it sounds dorky and weird, but I think with her imposing demeanour, she could deliver it in a way similar to the classic Irina 'You look just like him' line... making it personal, giving Sark even more history that he know he didn't have (Maybe M!S could wistfully mention how much her son looks like her own father? That would be cool).
And hey, I know how much J.J. likes to create the characters from the actors' real history... well, Susan Sarandon is half Italian and half Welsh, which sort of fits into a whole 'Rambaldi meets Great Britain' thing? Maybe M!S is a descendant of Rambaldi who sent her boy away to be raised British.
Don't mind me... I read into this stuff way too much. I'd much rather they be sure and have someone who fits the part play the part (rather than the classic horror that is the movie industry's 'Egypt Complex', where no one knows what 'Egyptian' looks like... but I digress.)
ETA: I'd just like to summarize my Sarksibs (halfsibs?) wishlist, and make an addition, as well: In addition to
Julie Cox and
Paul Bettany, I'd love to see
Uma Thurman. We've had QT, there are connections! I believe it's possible!!!

LinaBo, I have a suggestion for a Sark sibling - *winces*
Jay Mohr - but only if he had a complete personality transplant and stopped being a jackass. He can be half decent in movies when given the right script (obviously not including Pluto Nash and Jane Austen's Mafia).
The second photo under the "Go" heading vaguely resembles DA/Sark, IMO.
LinaBo
Jan 12, 2004 @ 4:12 pm
Hmm... yeah, he does have a resemblance... but he has darker features which might not jive... and can he do a British accent?
If I had to pick only one Sark Sib, it'd be Uma. Definitely Uma, all the way.

Orlando Bloom or Jude Law would make excellent brothers of Sark. Hot British boys all around!

I like the idea of Uma Thurman. She'd be a good nemesis for Syd. And not only have we had QT, but we've had Ethan Hawke (her estranged hubby) and David Carradine (Bill of Kill Bill).

Viggo! He could play the head of the Covenant. Maybe he could kidnap Vaughn for some reason, and Sark is working with him...and then I die from having too many hot men in the same room. SWUD.
ETA: I also think Miranda Otto would have made a great Lauren. At least she has the accent for it. And she's pretty.

Don Adams and Barbara Feldon. I would so love it if they would cameo, and together, if it can be pulled off just kind of casually and without too much fanfare. And if it was like, 'oh, it's Agent 86 and Agent 99... I see the parallel... teehee, fab guest casting, really sneaky' blahblahblah I'd be very happy.
Maybe they could guest as... Marshall's parents? Come on, the proud papa is gonna want to show off that baby, and there couldn't be a better way to work these two in than as doting grandparents, IMO.

Obviously it's too late, but if only Cate would do regular TV... she would've made a much better Lauren. *sigh*.
ETA: Pretty much based on appearance, so I need to verify some other stuff, but:
Another possible MommySark:
Kate Capshaw? (that second pic is from 20 years ago, just for some age reference) She looks so much like him, and her husband Steven Spielberg seems to be quite a fan of the show. I wonder...
Another possible SisterSark:
Marley Shelton? I don't know, I haven't really seen much of her work.

That list is probably endless, isn't. I also love the idea of Miranda Otto. Oh my, the possibilities. :::double sigh:::
Re: your newest suggestions,
LinaBo, I should really never say never since I thought Richard Lewis seemed like an absurd casting choice and he worked out great, imo, but I can't see Kate as Mommy Sark. She's too... whiny? Not sure if that's the word I'm even looking for. Not a strong enough presence, I guess.
As for Marley Shelton, I've liked her in some things, but kind of the same problem above, I don't think she's weighty enough. Not literally of course, but as an actress. She's always struck me as bit of a cream puff.
I think my favorite SarkSis suggested so far has been Julie Cox.

Channel7, I like your idea of Annette Bening, at least from a visual perspective (I don't get to watch much... resemblances are more my forte)
here and

For a younger Elena, how about Diane Lane? Look
here and

If Elena is younger than her sisters (at least ten years), Monica Bellucci would be wonderful. She's beautiful, she's a brunette and she can really do poisonous. I keep thinking of the 18th century spy she played in "Le pacte des loups", where she cut a man's throat with a fan. I love that woman.
Miss Lizzie
Jan 21, 2004 @ 1:37 pm
Another good Elena might be a French actress named Carole Bouquet--she's about the right age (a few years younger than LO), a beautiful brunette, and European. She's been in some quite good French movies, although I have no idea how good her English is. About ten years ago, she was in a series of famous advertisements for Chanel No. 5, which people may remember.
I like the Monica Bellucci idea as well.

Lena Olin as Irina Derevko.
I second this motion.
Ooh. And
Quentin Tarantino.
And having Jude Law as Sark's brother would rock. I loved Isabella Rosselinni (sic) this week as Irina's sister. My friend's mom said a while ago that Lena Olin reminded her of Barbara Hershey. There is some resemblence; has it been said that Elena is younger than Irina? Because if she's older?
Barbara Hershey might work. There probably could be a better picture found (I got it on Google), but there is a little resemblence.
SullivanLane
Jan 21, 2004 @ 8:24 pm
My first thought for the third and youngest Derevko sister was Juliette Binoche, but Future Mr. SullivanLane came up with a better one: Famke Janssen. She played Jean Grey in the "X-Men" movies and actually might have a bit of a resemblance at least to Lena Olin.
Katja
Jan 22, 2004 @ 3:16 am
I'd love to see Ornella Muti as Elena. She's had an interesting career in Europe, but hasn't really made any substantial American films. But I always thought she bore a passing resemblance to Lena Olin. According to the IMDB, she's a year older than LO and three years younger than IR. (And, as a bonus, apparently she worked on a film with IR last year.)

I wonder if we could get Goran Visnjic on (as a good guy, but not CIA/NSC/etc, maybe?). If the accent and the intentions can be explained away, could he be related to Soymoan? Because he looks like him...
Mmm... Luka goodness... I just started watching ER, despite fan complaints, simply for Goran.
ETA: I know it can no longer happen, but I can't help but dwell on the past just a smidge (because I hate the casting of Lauren that much). I just have to say that, for the record, I would have made the 'Lauren' character a recurring one, and would have convinced Rachel Weisz to play the character. Not only would she have lived up to the 'positive hype' that J.J. and Melissa and few other people tried to cram down our throats, but she can play fearless, she can play dangerous, and she's absolutely one of the most charming actresses ever. Hell, if she had been cast instead, I may just have been conflicted over the outcome of the triangle, and I wouldn't even mind the Lark that we'll be getting.
That said, I will settle for a guest appearance as a consolation...
Pronger44
Feb 20, 2004 @ 9:05 pm
I would love to see Ted King from General Hospital guest star or have a recurring role. Maybe some high ranking member of the Covenant, maybe just a contact of Vaughn's. I don't really care. He's hot, he can act, and ...he's hot. Strokable hair, sexy voice, lovely back muscles, what else could you ask for? Plus he already works for ABC, so it would just be a hop, skip, and a jump from the GH studios to the ALIAS ones. Please, JJ? Pleeeeeaaaassssseeee????? Maybe I'll go put a word in over at Dear JJ thread, just in case he actually is paying attention.

I stumbled across a child actor who I'd just like to mention for the record, in case we ever get a flashback to the whole dysfunctional 'childhood of Sark'. This kid looks like a young version of him. Seriously. He even seems to have the crooked lip (albeit, on the other side, but the film could alway be flipped. Who knows?)
see?I have no idea if he can act, but just like with Sarah K. Peterson (who plays Young Syd), there's no need for a speaking part...
*sighs* I'm just dying to know more about Sark, without his being used as a prop and being assassinated character-wise being passed off as character development... when it's not. More screen time does
not equal more character development.

So, while Brill, Ana Espinosa (Gina Torres), Yeager,Jim Lennox and the therapist from the Indicator (Amy Aquino) are floating out there in the Aliasverse, I would love to see Miranda Otto (ditto to everyone!), Helen Mirren, Chris Cooper (he was so good in the Bourne Identity, imagine him opposite VG), Charlotte Gainsbourg, Samantha Morton, Rachel Weisz, Jeremy Northam, Justin Kirk (from Angels in America), Benicio del Toro, Colin Firth (of course) and Thandie Newton. Regarding Carole Bouquet's English, she played the Bond girl Melina in For Your Eyes Only back in '81 and it was pretty good - I have no idea if she actually speaks English fluently or not.
