Wow. Its been almost a year since anything was said. Question, does anyone know whether this will come out on DVD anytime soon? The one episode that made me laugh so friggin hard was the David Duchoveny(?) episode. He decided that he would be more comfortable doing his session in there, but what gets me is when Ben comes in, not knowing he's really in there and just starts freaking out on the door. I had never laughed that hard at a cartoon. Laura just sucked.

WHAT?! I loved Laura and her snarkiness. Her interactions with Ben were among the best parts of the show.

I also long for DVDs. I highly doubt they will ever be produced.

This show is begging for DVDs. I was so disappointed when it suddenly disappeared from Comedy Central.

That episode with Ben and the London broil was hilarious! It's been so long that I've forgotten all the best stuff (DVDs, dammit!).

And I loved Laura! I still use her "I am in my own private hell. You're not here. This is my private hell" line more often than I care to admit.

Anything with Ben is comedy gold.

".....Los Benitos...."

"Drinky the Drunk Guy who's name is my dad."

"....Gonna shave my body bare ...."

Sigh.

No plans to put the show on DVD that I can find, but they did release a handful of episodes (maybe 10-15) on VHS:

Amazon.com

The hair's dirty!

One of my favorite lines is when Ben is hooked on coffee and he says to Laura "You're just a great big ball of bitch."

My family always said I looked and sounded like Laura, so my brother frequently tossed this line at me.

Who was the comedian who had the routine about faking a seizure to get out of a boring party, and how you have to really commit to that once people have called an ambulance?

This show was awesome. For some reason, I always loved when we'd see Ben snuggling up with "Bully," or just lounging around in his rumpled socks and (possibly) clothes he'd slept in.

"I've been honkin' the horn and sayin' whoop to da ladies." Simply brilliant.

Oh my gawd, I totally just came to post that same quote! I have managed to get that into a converation at least once a week for over 6 years, I think.

For those of you with Comcast "On-Demand", Comedy Central is occasionally playing an episode or two a month. the current one is the Carrie Fisher/most-uncomfortable-Thanksgiving-EVAH!! Yay!

I completely forget I used to watch this show and then I just remembered it when I came on the forum. Dr Katz kicks ass.

Why? Why? Why? Why would they not put this show on DVD? God, I miss Dr. Katz. I used to work in publishing, at the Big Publishing House that put out their audio cassette, and I must have listened to it every single night for a year.

I'm starting to get mad at the People Who Decide What Shows Are DVD-Worthy. Keep your O.C., keep your stupid, stupid, STUPID shows, and give me Dr. Katz this very minute. And throw in Newsradio, too.

This has to be my favorite Dr. Katz/Ben exchange:

"You can't get crabs from a mattress!"
"You can if there's a hooker on it!"
"HELLO, chico!"
lesa
Mary - the first two seasons of Newsradio are being released on DVD soon. In case you didn't know.

So that's one down!
Hasbro
"Listen up I'm going to say this once."

"What?"

"LISTEN UP I'M GOING TO SAY THIS ONCE!"

Can anyone tell me if this is a Katz-Ben exchange? I know this is.

"Hey dad, just five more box tops and this baby is mine."

"You must be very proud."

Anyone in the NYC area with Time Warner digital cable, there are currently two Dr. Katz episodes available on Comedy Central on Demand. There are free to view.

I know that there are some VHS's of the shows out,but no DVD's :-( I wish Comedy Central would air it again.

I bought the whooooole series on VHS from ebay for, like, 80 bucks, I think. Bootlegged, of course. Is that wrong? I could not help myself - I love Dr. Katz and yet it's not on DVD. Where is the fairness in that?

My fave:

My name is Katz. That's "K" as in "Katz", "A" as in "Atz", "T" as in "Tatz", "Z" as in "Zatz."

You'd be surprised how often I am able to squeeze that into a conversation...
candygirl75
Nah..you're not wrong for seeking out your fave shows..even if it's bootlegged. I bought the whole series of MTV's Daria :-)

I used to watch this show when I was pretty young. Maybe 12 or 13 years old. A local station would air the episodes each night at midnight. I just loved having it on as I drifted to sleep. The voices were oddly soothing.

Of course I enjoyed it for its quirkiness as well.

Man, I thought I was the only person who watched this show. I LOVED THIS SHOW! Everytime it came on I would watch. It was just so funny. As I sit here typing this, the episode I think of is the one with Dom Irrera (sp?). I wish CC hadn't taken it off. This still have The Critic though. You have to get up early on Sunday to catch it.
candygirl75
I think it's funny what they call the animation for Dr.Katz...Squiqqlevision! LOL!

Question, does anyone know whether this will come out on DVD anytime soon?

I saw Johnathan Katz in his one person show a few weeks ago, and he says there is absloutley no chance this is going to end up on DVD soon. He said there are a million legal battles to fight, and no one is currently up for it...

Also, did you all know that JK is sick? He's got MS. So sad.
candygirl75
Bad news..on both counts! :-(

*Puts on viking horns and a dress, and drives around town honking my horn and shouting "woot!" to the ladies*

As my tapes of the show are just about ready to deteriorate into nothingness, this is good news indeed.

I loved this show! Late-night Comedy Central at its best.
Fig in Mouth
The DVD came out yesterday. I watched all six episodes just now, and I'm hoping season 2 comes out soon. There are commentaries on five of the six episodes too.

*squeals like the little girl that I am*

Comcast has shown a couple episodes on their On Demand service and I'd forgotten how much fun the series was. Now that the DVDs are coming out...gawd, more I'm going to buy and not watch...
justjohn
I hadn't seen the show in years, but I bought the DVD and watched the first episode today. Good stuff...

Good article about Dr. Katz on Slate today, which praises it as the best show in the history of Comedy Central. Not sure about that--South Park, MST3k, and the Daily Show are all pretty stellar. But it is a terrific show and I am really glad that it is finally out on DVD.

Artwork for Season 2, available November 21st.

I'm really glad to see this being released, as Season 1 was the only one I had on tape.

I just got the Season 1 DVD and am just blown away. Even though I often tell people how much I loved the show and how extremely hilarious both Dom Irerra and Ray Romano were on that show (and never since) it still amazed me to see it again. I was rolling on the floor watching it.

The only nitpick is functional and I hope it's fixed on the Season 2 DVD...I couldn't "play all" with commentaries, could only do commentaries one by one. Maybe it's just a glitch on my copy, when I tried to switch audio tracks I got error messages.

Really looking forward to seeing more eps...these 6 were such a tease. Especially looking forward to the Todd Barry appearances, those were always my favorite. Mitch Hedberg and Dave Chappelle too, don't know if they were part of Season 2 but I assume so? How many seasons were there?

The commentaries were actually quite informative to me. I never thought the comediens really came face to face with jon katz in a studio, I thought the producers had recorded bits of their live act and sliced it up.
ConnieVandelay
I haven't seen this show in six years, I hope to get the DVD's for Christmas.

Anyways, there was this one exchange between Ben & Dr Katz that had me on the floor rolling, but I can't remember how it went. It had something to do with the phrase "there is someone on the other line" and something to do with a lion? Ben was trying to explain to his dad what he thought that meant when he was little? And I remember the little sqigglevision drawing of the lion with a little crown on on the phone?

Does anyone have any news about the rest of Dr. Katz on DVD? I started watching it again via the DVDs, and I want more. I love this show.

There are rumors that season 3 will be out July 17, but I think its just rumor because I've only read this on Wikipedia and imdb.

Yay! The Complete Dr. Katz is being released tomorrow (11/20/07).

My favorite memories are of Dr. Katz performing at Open Mic night and realizing the importance of Ben's stuffed Bull. "Show's up there folks, show's up there."
djbrown
"Show's up there folks, show's on the stage"
daidouji
"A boy, a bike, a heart so full.
A mom, and a dad, and a little stuffed bull."

And I love when Ben puts color-coded labels on all his stuff. "Where did you get beige labels?"

I finally got my answer to my question, because I got the complete series for Christmas. Katz is telling the gang at the bar that when Ben was growing up, when he heard him say, "the line is busy", Ben thought he was saying, "The LION is busy". It wasn't as funny ten years later.

As I sit here typing this, the episode I think of is the one with Dom Irrera

Rewatching this I realsied that Dom Irrera is in about nine or ten episodes. Which was nine more than he should have been in.

I love this show. I agree with the poster upthread who finds the voices soothing.

I just watched the episode where Ben wins $500 on a scratchcard and takes Dr Katz and Laura out to dinner. I think that is the only episode in which Laura is nice to Ben.
