Right now, in Canada DLM is being shown for the second time (ep 5 last Wednesday). It is the only can't miss program for me this season. This time around I'm recording episodes, or rather fragments of it. It comes on at 10:00 pm, and I watch and record it. Then I study it on tape to see exactly which sections I want to lose/keep and the following morning at 6:00 am I do the re-recording.

One thing about ep 5 (the one where Betty leaves), Rube tells G that maybe he'll take her to Spain for the running of the bulls. But this makes no sense at all. One cetainly expects that there are reapers in all parts of the world, and its not as if thousands die in this event and they will be wanting to bring in reapers from all over; and I doubt G speaks Spanish. But I guess its a matter of sloppy writing where the writers don't deeply consider the implications of what they are writing.

Info from tvshowsondvd:

MGM Home Entertainment has announced their May 2004 schedule, and we're pleased to tell you that Showtime's acclaimed series, Dead Like Me, is on it! As with many DVD releases of new shows, the Season 1 release is timed to help promote the second season's premiere, which Showtime will begin marketing during the same period as the DVD comes out.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the show, TVTome.com has a great description that accompanies their episode guide for the series: "18-year-old George Lass dies when a piece of the MIR space station falls from the sky and hits her on the head... Darkly comic and quirky, the show follows George as she helps in catching the souls of people moments before they're destined to die..."

The stars shine in this release: Ellen Muth plays George, the pretty gal with the boy's name who's life takes a strange turn in death. Also see Laura Harris, Callum Blue, Rebecca Gayheart, Jasmine Guy, Cynthia Stevenson, Mandy Patinkin, Greg Kean, Britt McKillip, and Christine Willes.

This 4-DVD set runs 627 minutes and contains 14 episodes: "Pilot" (double-length), "Dead Girl Walking", "Curious George", "Reapercussions" (which aired last night in reruns), "Reaping Havoc", "My Room", "Reaper Madness", "A Cook", "Sunday Mornings", "Business Unfinished", "The Bicycle Thief", "Nighthawks", "Vacation", and "Rest in Peace".

The show will be on DVD in 16x9 Anamorphic Widescreen, and will have English 5.1 Surround Sound. In addition, you also get the following special features:

Audio Commentary
Deleted Scenes
Behind-the-Scenes Featurette
"The Music of Dead Like Me" Featurette
Photo Gallery

Death is coming for you on May 4th, and it won't cost you your soul at all. Just $58.96 (SRP)...not a bad deal in comparison, eh?
Aatrek
Kick. ASS!
MattJohnson
It has been delayed from May 4th to June 15th, unfortunately.

Showtime said tonight that the new season starts in July. (not June)

What?? That is so not fair. I just keep hoping that Showtime keeps airing the reruns to get my fix.

I like the packaging of the DVDs, nice mini-DVD cases instead of crappy cardboard like Buffy/Angel that begs to get worn out and beaten up. I think DVD set makers should use this style more often. I guess I just care about the DVD package 'cause I don't have cable.

And count me as a vote for DLM recaps. I'll need something to read here once Angel goes away. =)
JuniperBerry
Dead Like Me recaps would make my day. Maybe if we up the post count in this thread enough, it'll happen. Posting, now! :D
Sars
It won't. Don't post just for the sake of posting, please.
tsbbff
does anyone know if rube is going to get with anyone this season? I heard he was suppose to get with one of his reapers, and im assuming thats either georgia or daisy....hopefully NOT daisy.
Elley
Sars, what does go into the decision to recap a show? And does DLM have a shot?
Bonanza
When Rube said "Mine are always hard, I wonder why?" He says this comment in the pilot episode when they were discussing Bettys nipples being hard or whatever. What did he mean? I know its something sexual but not sure what. I put spoiler tags in it just incase someone hasnt seen the episode.

I haven't heard anything, but if I were to make a guess, I'd actually think it was Betty. They seemed to have chemistry in the episode where it goes over how her death was caused due to her inventing the leg warmer, and I certainly couldn't imagine it being Georgia, or Daisy (who seems to be going down that road with Mason if anything).
expat
Ok, going out on a limb here, I'd like to see Rube and Roxy as a couple. I think they have the chemistry, they both exude a world-weary wiseness. They'd be supportive of each other in their own snarky ways. Rube/George -- cant see it. He's her afterlife Father. Making them a couple would be .. well .. incest. Rube/Betty or Rube/Daisy -- almost as bad as Rube/George.
Not sure why these and the posts I'm responding to should be in spoiler mode since it's all speculation anyway but I'm going with the flow.

Edited to remove spoiler tags...going with the flow sends you down a drain.
Elley
First Kennebec, you're thinking of Roxy, not Betty.

Also, what's with all the spoiler-type and no actual spoilers?
First Kennebec
My bad...and I used spoiler tags because I was speculating on something that someone had brought up as something that was to happen next season, so I didn't want to cross the "spoiler line".

I've never seen this show--I don't have Showtime--but I started reading this thread for some backstory and this caught my eye:

I adore Mandy Patinkin. Have ever since the first time (of aproximately seventy or so by now) I saw The Princess Bride. He's the main reason I watched Chicago Hope in it's first season, in addition to being the main reason I only watched the first season. I also remember Rebecca Gayheart from the much missed (by me, anyway) Earth 2...

AmytestW, are you me? I love Mandy, loved Chicago Hope's first season, and still miss Earth 2.

Anyway, off to continue catching up on this thread!
Naninja
Finally this show has found it's way across the ocean and onto Dutch television (I was just minutes away from looking for episodes on the p2p networks, if only this would also happen for "the L-word" and "Joan of Arcadia", that would save my internetconnection a lot of hard work;) ).

Anyway, for those of you who remember the discussion about the gay dad storyline, way back in the beginning: the afterellen site has posted an interview with Bryan Fuller. Though it is about his new show "Wonderfalls", there is a comment in it that he wrote George's dad as a gay guy, but that the character got changed to a straight guy after Fuller left the show. A move that pissed him off mightily. You can read the interview at Bryan Fuller interview. The comment in question is a little below the halfway point of the interview.
The Pez
I've heard a lot of praise for this show, and a lot of comparisions to Wonderfalls which I love. So I checked my IO and it plays tonight. It is the episode Nighthawks, is this a good episode for a first time viewer?
JuniperBerry
If you can't catch the first episode, it's about as good a place to start as any. As long as you know the basic premise, you should be good.
Jeebus Cripes
Yeah, it's definitely a good episode to come in on, as it basically recaps the whole season with flashbacks.
The Pez
Oh okay, I know the premise. Going to watch it in a hour, here is hoping for a new DLM fan
Mandy204
i love this show!
Mandy204
is there a fanfic for DLM?
TiffanyNichelle
There's some here.
The Pez
I went to go watch Nighthawks a week ago, to find out I don't have showtime because of my mom not wanting to spend enoug money. So I've downloaded the pilot, and like 7 other episodes and now she loves it

I do have a question though, does Rube have a quota? Because it seems like he is the boss...

Not sure but probably. He's been a reaper for several millenia and I'm sure he's seen them come and go. Of course if he does any feelings about this he doesn't let it on. He never lets anything on.
Mandy204
i agree! but i don't think that he was around for several millenia, maby a couple hundred years maybe...
swingkidpt
Well there was the episode where he showed a picture of his mother. And I don't believe it was one of those tin pictures (although I could be wrong) How long has photography been around?
Jeebus Cripes
I just did a bit of research and apparently; 1839 was the year the invention of the photographic process was made public. Didn't he make a comment about his first car as well? Does anyone remember any specifics about that? Hopefully, season 2 will show how he died and when, so we can put an end to this speculation.
Aatrek
Rube made mention that his first car was a Model-T (or Model-A, not quite sure which). He picked up Betty in the mid-1920s. He has civil war figurines on his desk at his apartment. He also has the picture of his wife/family, which is yellowed and very (very!) old.

A maybe he was killed in the Civil War?
Mandy204
killed in the civil war? It's possible, but Rube doesn't strike me as the "soldier type"..but you never know...
Mandy204
On a new topic,
My favorite episode was where:the reapers use Happy Time to log and record all the deaths that ever happened. It showed us a side of Mason we've never seen.
swingkidpt
Mason's a sweetheart. You could tell that from the first time you saw him. I mean, sure, he's a jerk and a cheat and likes to steal dead people's things and money, but when it really counts, he comes through.
Mandy204
what episode was that anyways? was it Nighthawks?
The Pez
No that was 'Vacation' in which they use Happy Time. I think they showed a side of Daisy we never seen. Her last thought is really sad, and gave me chills.
Mandy204
I agree! I felt so sad for Daisy! Who knew!
The Pez
Yea, "Blew Babe Ruth" girl would actually have depth. That is what I love about this show. They have the clique of a dumb blonde but actually make her interesting.

I recently watched the flashback of Roxy's death, man I felt bad for her. But who popped her soul though? (because she was asleep when her friend tried to kill her)
Jeebus Cripes
I think they showed a side of Daisy we never seen. Her last thought is really sad, and gave me chills.

Well, in 'Nighthawks', George made a point to mention to Rube that there was a melancholy side to Daisy. So her last thought didn't really surprise me much. I think she has really low self-esteem actually, and that's why she puts up such a front about how "perfect" she is. It might be why she's such a bitch too. Or not.

I actually like Daisy. I know alot of people can't stand the character, but she doesn't bother me. I wouldn't wanna live with her though. Poor George.

ETA: I often wondered the same thing about Roxy's soul, Pez. I guess it got popped after she died.
The Pez

You mean like that guy in 'Dead Girl Walking' who was still in there seeing himself get cut
Mandy204
yea, her soul had to be popped after she died.
She didn't die in a violent setting, (and by violent I mean like a bear attack.)
And I remember Rube saying that they pop the souls for people who die rather violently...
and if she had her soul popped before she died, it would have been pointless because she would have woken up freaked out that someone was in her room, and then locked the door, thefore preventing the death from happening.
Mandy204
When is the next season going to air?

But she got strangled to death. That had to be violent, I won't get that nit-picky.

Mandy204: I believe July, the first season comes out on DVD in June
Mandy204
Can't wait!
I can only imagine what the plots for the episodes will be!
I hope it shows who that mysterious person who gives Rube the list is, and how Rube died, and why he is the one that gets the list, and when he died!
And maybe Daisy and Mason's relationship will blosom!

But... I will have tp wait and see!
The Pez
No, I don't really want to see Dason or Maisy, whatever that ship is called. Mason and Daisy don't go together at all.
wurlitzer prize
I wouldn't say no to a little Daisy/George.

Sigh. I love the first season finale. Good stuff right there.
Jeebus Cripes
Ugh... Mason & Daisy makes the baby Jesus cry. I like the show as it is, without any ships. In the pilot I was convinced George & Mason would end up together, but I'm glad that got squashed.
BostonTony
George was, what, eighteen when she died? Eighteen and a virgin. I don't recall if it's been hinted at how old Mason is/was, but my guess would be he was well into his mid-twenties at the time of his death, perhaps even a bit older. In real life, Callum Blue is only about four years older than Ellen Muth (according to IMDB), but I've always felt his character was supposed to be a bit older, whereas hers -- we know -- is supposed to be four years younger. Plus, if you consider their years of experience as adults (the frozen-in-time nature of reapers' appearances notwithstanding), Mason is way more experienced and "of the world" than George.

Bottom line, I believe most viewers would find pairing these two up a bit icky, especially since their relationship at this point has evolved into more of a brother/sister thing.

Shipping Mason and Daisy would seem, on the surface, to be more likely, but it doesn't seem to be all that true to the characters and their growth during the first season. I think that, upon reading Daisy's last thoughts in Vacation, Mason realized that what she really needed was someone to truly love her, and that while she eventually might have broken down and indulged his infatuation with her, that would not have been an act of love on either of their parts. Being fundamentally a good guy, I think Mason has decided to give up on pursuing Daisy in that sense.

I believe Mason and Daisy will eventually come to love each other, but that their relation-ship will have long since sailed by then.

I really don't see any of these characters forming romantic attachments with each other. I think what we have here is a sort of a dysfunctional family, forced together by happenstance or perhaps a higher power, but one in which any physical relationships would feel rather incestuous.

In other words: I like things exactly as they are.
The Pez

Yeah, there might be an episode where they start going out and when they are about to show their love for the first time one of them says, "We can't do this." Since they've became so close, and now are brother/sister like George/Mason.

I once saw a fic shipping George/Rube, it was nasty. I don't even want to see Roxy/Rube. I have a feeling this show is not going to have realationships, which is a good break from other shows. Wouldn't it be funny to see a Dolores/Rube fling?!
