During last night's rerun ("Soup" couples therapy with Van/Cheyenne, BJ/Brock & Reba/Kira), I was reminded why this show cracks me up.
When the smarmy doctor (played by Martin Mull) leading the therapy session announces that the dining room has been temporarily turned into the gift shop, he offers a free "Soup" baseball cap to the first person that can get to it. Everyone else in the room looks at him like he's crazy but Barbara Jean just about goes through the wall getting over to him first to get the hat. Afterwards, she jumps up and down and celebrates like she's won the lottery while Reba looks at her with that perfect expression of distaste.
Melissa Peterman is just incredible in the part of BJ and every week, she makes me nearly fall over laughing. If there were any justice, Reba would win an Emmy for best leading actress and Melissa would win for best supporting actress. She has one of the best supporting roles on TV and I adore her.

I've loved her ever sincer she played the wholesome Minnesota hooker in

Oh man, AlbanyGuy...that was her? Great, even more reason to love her.
I admit, I am a black man in my 30s, and me and MrsMcGee love this show. She got me into it first but it makes me laugh. The youngest kids don't do much for me, but between Van and Barbara Jean (and Reba of course) I can get my laugh quotient for Fridays. Glad she was nominated.

Yes, Melissa Peterman is good. She's also whip smart...I saw her on Pyramid last year, and she kicked butt.
You have to be smart to act that stupid, I guess.
I also have a bit of a crush on Van. Tall, sweet and dumb gets me every time.

Tall, sweet and dumb gets me every time.
Me, too. As Julie Brown used to sing, "I like 'em big and stupid, I like 'em big and real dumb!"
Although Van is showing signs of growth these days. He occasionally comes through with some pretty good insights when he's trying to comfort Reba or patch up a squabble between Cheyenne and Kira.
I love it when Reba has a boyfriend over and Van gets all macho and territorial, as if he's trying to protect Reba when he's really trying to defend his status as alpha male. "Yeah, you're a real sweet talker, aren't you? Well, your gigolo magic doesn't work on me!"
Van: Nice to meet you, Ryan.
Boyfriend: Actually, it's Brian.
Van: Really? Well, I got a name, too. They call me
Buttkicker!
Reba: We don't use the
kicker part very much.

Van and BJ are the best characters on the show.
When BJ said she used to have a cat name clap clap kitty cat..... the third. And then ended up saying she made them up I was cracking up.
When Van said if Kyra's life was a movie he wanted Denzel Washington to play him.
Classic moments from the best characters.

Ok in the episode "Regarding Henry" when Barbara Jean and Reba take the babies to the zoo, what was written on BJ"s shirt. It was something like granny happy camp or something. Does anyone know?

I only saw parts of it since I was watching the Piston's game.
Brock thinks leaving Reba was the biggest mistake of his life and he wants to get back together. Reba doesn't want to. BJ thinks they are. Van and Cheyenne want to move out but don't have enough money. That's all I saw and remember hope it's a little help.
"Camp Happy Grammy"

That's a pretty comprehensive summary,
Detroit Chick!
Here's what TVTome said (misspellings not mine!):
Van & Cheyenne decide it's time to become more independant, so they go apartment shopping. They find the perfect place but they don't have enough money. They ask Reba to co-sign and she refuses. They forge her signature on the lease only to be turned down due to Reba's poor credit. Brock breaks down to Reba about all the stuff he's done and the people he has hurt and they embrace in a tearful hug only to be seen by Barbara Jean. Reba confronts Barbara Jean after BJ tells Kyra that she caught the two of them in bed. She tells BJ that Brock loves her and she has no reason to worry. Brock comes home to talk to BJ, but first asks BJ if he could first talk to Reba for a minute. BJ tells Brock that this better be an important mintute and that he better figure everything out as she stomps out of the room. Reba trys to convince Brock to run after her and tell her that it wasn't a mistake that he left Reba for BJ. Brock then tells Reba that he believes it was a mistake.
I think we'll see Van and Cheyenne helping to support the family financially next season, after they found out about Reba's poor credit.

Of course she has bad credit - she lives in this huge house and doesn't seem to have a job of any kind. Although she probably gets some degree of child support for the boy (and maybe even Kyra), she strikes me as the type who would refuse alimony on principle.
If Van and Cheyenne really wanted to move, why not forge Brock's signature? Certainly the big-time dentist has better credit than no-job-having Mom.

Did anyone see the cliffhanger finale? Argh. I wish they wouldn't do that.
Actually, it wasn't originally planned to be a cliffhanger. According to TV Tome, what we saw last Friday was the first half of what was supposed to be an hour-long season finale. Presumably, the "cliffhanger" (Brock telling reba that his marriage to BJ was a "mistake") was going to be resolved in the second half. But Reba McIntyre had to cut the shooting schedule short to go on tour (or something like that) and they only had time to shoot the first half. So, they decided to turn it into a cliffinghanger.
Of course she has bad credit - she lives in this huge house and doesn't seem to have a job of any kind.
I think she's still working in that dentist's office (at least part-time), although like most sitcom characters, she hardly ever seems to be at her job. But even if she was working there full-time, she couldn't be making enough to keep up that house and support all those kids.

Yeah. Of course, none of those tour dates are anywhere near me. I haven't seen much of Reba (the show), which is strange for me, since I am a HUGE Reba McEntire fan. But what I have seen of the show was pretty decent. I hear it's doing really well in terms of ratings and whatnot, and I wish her all the best with the show. I just miss her making albums and touring full-time
Recently, Lifetime has bought the syndication rights, and it'll start airing on the station in 2006. Maybe I'll start watching it then

From way, way back:
In the second season, Reba helps Van and Cheyenne deal with parenthood and begins to explore life as a single woman, eventually finding a boyfriend of her own (although she broke up with him because he had fallen in love with her and her feelings weren't as strong).
You know I have seen that episode 2 times and both times I got a phone call and missed that part, so I never knew what happened there. Now I know!
I love this show too. Its one of those shows where you forget it's on and then when you remember it's a fun surprise. Reba does rock and the episode I liked the best was the Halloween episode. When Brock lets it slip that the previous owner of their house died there and tells her not to tell Barbara Jean. Reba just has a field day with her.

Watching the reruns this summer I noticed that towards the end of the season Brock's plotline got to be pretty dark. It wasn't bad, but the show started to feel a little bit darker. It was still funny, and I enjoyed it as much as ever, it just started to feel a bit different.

I caught the new episode and loved it. Van really cracked me up when he caught Reba and BJ hugging and said something about "it was then they realized that neither one of them needed a man". I was rolling with that one.
Reba's little comments about her grandmother and such were kind of odd. I didn't quiet catch all that she said.
Van's "Mr. HoooooT" was cracking me up as well.
Oh and wow we actually saw Henry, the forgotten child! But alas, no Elizabeth. Is it a rule that only one child can be on at a time?
Oh and loved BJ's comment about Reba being second only to Alias' Jennifer Garner as the woman Broke respects the most. Gotta love a Jen mention!

Wow....I posted a couple of days ago, and nobody has read this thread since? weird....
It is now the 25th of September, and nobody has posted yet...I am guessing that this show just doesn't have a lot of people watching it who want to snark...bummer for me. oh well...I did catch it last night, and was able to kind of figure out what was going on. I felt sad for Barbara Jean, but was glad that the daughter was hanging out with her, to help her out.

I agree with you Lynettefl. I was prepared to hate this ep, given the fact that I am a lesbian who only discovered the fact after a 15 year marriage, but they really handled it well. There were no really bad gay jokes, and in the end they were tolerant. That makes me feel great about the show, and about Reba herself as well. I am a LONGTIME fan of hers, and have never known her to make an intolerant statement, but you never know.
I also agree that Wendy Malick needs to have her own show, I absolutely adore her!

Surprised, no one has been talking about Reba the last two weeks. I'll just do some catch up, while the show is still funny. I'm really sick of both Brock and Barbara Jean constantly using Reba to be the middle person. It's been 4 seasons now, it's really, really getting old. BJ can still bring the funny in with the dog, but still. I don't like what they are doing with Van either, granted I know this is basically their way of having him find out what to do outside of football. However, I think it's pretty much sure he'll end up a football coach or something. Loved Penny, she was funny. Old Mama Celise is one talented actress. And would someone please get Reba a boyfriend already.

Man, I haven't watched this in so long but I watched both episodes last night. This show is hilarious!
The first one was when Reba helped sell Brock's condo. My cousin and I almost fell off the couch laughing when Barbara Jean did her impression of those inflatable balloon things at car lots. But I really need to get some screencaps of this to fuel my memory. I didn't like Van's hair though. It looks better short and spiky.
The second one was okay but now I want the DVDs!

That first "Reba" was too funny last night, Melissa Peterson is amazing as Barbara Jean and I am not being bias because I'm going to the same college as her, but I will do a little research to see if she is expecting. On the subject of Reba and her jobs, was it my imagination or wasn't it said in a show from the first year that Reba was a teacher and that was what she was working at while she put Brock through school? I remember they had that one episode where she was doing substitute teaching and was fired due to a misunderstanding but surely there are other schools in Texas? Why did she end up having to work for Brock because she couldn't find anything else?

No, it was not your imagination, that was established in the first season. Then again, last season it was established that Reba also had bad credit. But for the sake of comedy and not drama they decided to abounded that all and continue to create ways that keep Reba living off welfar and alamony. Because God forbid she have her own career or boyfriend.

She was never on welfare, she got food stamps for a day in one episode but otherwise she's worked for Brock and then for the dentist that Brock has the feud with.
I guess it's just that this is a home based sitcom not workplace based. I'd just appreciate it if they let her have that career they themselves claimed she was trained for!!
On the subject of oddities though, does anyone else find it strange that Brock and Barbara Jean are constantly out of their house (usually at Reba's as CanadianTac points out) and little Henry is being left alone?
