...a future captain, say, can show up in the past and say, "Captain Archer, let me operate..."
Yeah, but fooling around with the timeline like that is supposed to be bad...
very bad. I don't think that would work (although Kirk might actually try it).

Or Janeway.

Well, I suppose it would be used to fix a timeline rather than mess around with one.

Seems like a bad idea. All it takes is one person in the future to leak the codes, and now people in the past are at the mercy of people who are faking it. I mean, if someone steals the code from Janeway and you have to change the codes, how can you get Archer the new code?

The answer to that is simple Cleo: wacky time travel shenanigans! There could be aliens. Oh, and maybe Nazis. Or, if we're really lucky, aliens that are Nazis.

The less we have on time travel the better for ENT. Evil alien Nazis. gosh.

I think it would be cool to see an episode where someone came to enterprise and claimed to be a future captain, but turn out to be someone(altered romulan[this way no one in starfleet knows they've seen a romulan] perhaps?), trying to infiltrate Enterprise and gain information. This could work if the writers develop a unification plot.
I can't recall the title, or much else, but there was a TNG episode with a guest appearance by the non-rick moranis father from 'Honey I Shrunk The Kids', wherein he claimed to be from the future and wanted to see some big galactic event, only to be fake and just trying to get new technology. Expand on this idea a little and use it in a new way.

IIRC, it turned out he was actually from the past and was using a stolen time-travel device to steal more futuristic tech to make himself rich back in the 22nd century...
...but I could be wrong - it's been a while since I saw it last. That's what I figured him for, though, after seeing him pocket a tricorder...

That was Berlinghof Rassmussen, I believe, played by Matt Frewer (Max Headroom). Perhaps "Enterprise" can start setting rules for time travel using his theft of a time ship as a starting point. He was from the 22nd century, right?

And I wonder if that means we might see him on the show...
I love Matt Frewer. I was such a Max Headroom whore.
