If Chloe heals Lana, then why is she in a coma at the Smallville Medical Center? It makes zero sense. Having said that, I'm still expecting it. It just makes no sense to move her from a hospital that specializes in such cases, to a hospital in SMALLVILLE.
clooless
Why is she on a ventilator? Lana didn't need one, so how come Chloe's all hooked up to machines?
Eurybia

Because this show makes no sense.

So at :09 in the extended promo, who's fighting? Is that Kariac v. Clark? I can't tell. But it looks like it's at a power plant. How smart, Clark remembers the energy thing!
clooless
Because this show makes no sense.

The answer to every Smallville-related question!

I think :09 is Clark vs some form of Brainiac (duh). But you know, all of this is making me wonder: if Brainiac can so easily take the form of someone else, you'd think he would've used that to his advantage several times by now. He's only impersonated someone else once before (can't seem to remember the specifics now), but it would just be easy to get things done if he's posing as Clark's close friends/relatives.

This show makes no sense.
rowan sjet

He posed as Lionel to talk to Clark (I think).
jimmy4
He posed as Lionel to talk to Clark (I think).

He also posed as Ghost Jonathan asking Clark to kill Lionel. Yeah, it's strange that Brainiac has not tried to pose as Chloe. That would have made so much more sense and made Brainiac seem like quite the smart computer that he is.

I'm moving these here from the Spoilers-Only thread since the Chicago Tribune counts as a "mainstream" publication, and if they're out at one site, they're probably out at others, too.
Here are the links for two scenes from Arctic, looks like it could be the Sprint clips.

Season 8 press release

This part might confirm some fears and add some new questions with this particularly:
"The series stars Tom Welling as Clark Kent, Kristin Kreuk as Lana Lang, Erica Durance as Lois Lane and Aaron Ashmore as Jimmy Olsen"

Is this who they've already negotiated, or have they signed Kristin for more, or what? Guess we'll see...
KRehnberg
Don't know what to read into this, it's probably ridiculous but, I was reading a little blurb about Reaper at the bottom of this page and there was a very strange quote.
Already set for midseason is freshman "Reaper," after an eleventh-hour renewal.
Initially, it felt very similar to "Smallville, but "once they started to focus more on relationships of characters, the show got more interesting," earning "another chance," Ostroff said.
"Reaper" won't necessarily air on Thursdays, she said. As for the perception that the upcoming season will be the last for "Smallville" -- not very accurate.
"You would have said several times during its run that the show is just about dead," Ostroff said. "So I would never count it out."

Now, is this person just nuts or could they actually want more than S8? I truly hope she's just joking.
CantThinkUpName
Season 9? SEASON 9?! Really? You gut the cast and crew, still can't afford AM and you want a season 9? What's that going to be? "What happens when Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen and Doomsday have to share a two bedroom apartment together?!?" And yes, the Talon apartment will be the only set since they further cut back the budget to pay for GG's marketing scheme of "LOLERZ."

Now, is this person just nuts or could they actually want more than S8? I truly hope she's just joking.
The person is the president of CW and all indications point to nuttier than a shithouse rat.
KRehnberg
The person is the president of CW and all indications point to nuttier than a shithouse rat.

Yeah, Seems to be the case, but the real question is was it just a throw away comment or will it be something they actually push for?
KSiteCraig500
Ostroff likes to spin stuff for... whatever reason she spins stuff the way she does.

This is the same woman who assured that Aquaman was still a contender for midseason at one point when it was a done deal that it was dead.

Even if Smallville pulls 6 million viewers next year (and it won't) there's no way they'll be able to afford to pay Tom to do a ninth year, when they can't even afford to keep Michael and Allison. And if Laura's not a series regular next year, then shifting the focus to Kara is not an option either.

I shouldn't be happy about this, but at least Justin Hartley's pilot doesn't seem to have gotten picked up, so they could always just do Green Arrow. What am I kidding, GA will never work on a network aimed only at 12 year old girls.
TWoP Tennison
As mentioned in my note in the Mod thread, the Season 7 spec thread has now been renamed "Speculation Without Spoilers: Promos & Prognostication" and is the general speculation thread. This is where you'd discuss previews, promos, official press releases, commercials, and other first-party show stuff that isn't considered spoilery by this site's definition. For exceptions, please see this post.

This is also the place to discuss your predictions/speculation based on past episodes, without the knowledge of any spoilers.

Sweet infant Jesus.

What. The. Fuck. And that's a direct quote from Ostroff? I have a feeling that TW would rather jam pins under his fingernails than sign on for ANOTHER season after S8. How the hell could they extend pass S8? They really are going to ride this thing until every wheel falls off, huh?

I might be slightly interested to see a Green Arrow spin-off...with AM?

It will never NOT be funny to poke at the OMG campaign, so thank you for that laugh :)

Man, y'all are just bringin' the funny today!

I think a GA show would actually do better on another network, myself.

AM = Black Canary and I'm there.

It's pretty upsetting.

On Thursday, the heroic team of SMALLVILLE and SUPERNATURAL will continue to offer viewers great special effects and gorgeous men.

Wow. Just...I...Who is doing their focus groups and research?

"Gorgeous men" is only an added bonus for me to watch, not THE reason I watch.

I LOVE The Office and not because it's chock full of beautiful people, but because it's hilarious, has great characters, and funny stories. And, the actors on the show are actually some of the most normal people (yet, still beautiful in their own way) I've ever seen. They look like folks I've known in my life, people I work with, go to church with, etc. Drop-dead gorgeous people are not what make shows great. It might be part of the reason I watch Days of Our Lives, but not why I watch Smallville. I got into the show for the story and the characters.

Yikes.

Now I'm afraid the ratings for the 8th season finale will be decent. Remember how Dawn was so impressed at the numbers the series finale of 7th Heaven pulled in, she decided the show needed one more season?

If the show can't afford to bring back MR and AM now, I don't think there is any way it could resign TW for a 9th season. Unless the show was just TW standing on an empty sound stage, reading a phone book.

Unless she's holding Welling's puppy hostage or has photos of him in an inapproptriate situation with livestock, I don't see that happening.

As it stands now, even if they did get him signed, I don't see the show lasting without Lex Luthor. They should have stopped with Season 7 and wrapped up the show with the original cast.

When I read the Ostroff quote, my response was going to be that unless the CW has pictures of TW with farm animals, there's no way there will be a season 9. Dread, you beat me to it though.
Dawn must have gotten some of that crack from the Smallville writers and producers. It must be some GOOD stuff...
jwm

You're assuming they think they actually need TW to do season 9. If they don't need Al & Miles, MR, KK and possibly AM for season 8... maybe they don't think anyone on the show is truly indispensable.

Just because Clark leaves Smallville the show can't go on? Not while they could still make a buck! They still have Supergirl. She could go on living on the farm an occasionally refer to her cousin who's moved on to Metropolis.

Sure it sounds bad. But is it really any worse than a Pussycat Dolls reality show?
Omega II
Yeah, because that's all that WE (young women 18-34) care about. Never mind shows with actual content (Gilmore Girls) or great female role models (Chloe Sullivan). *rolls eyes*

Me... Head... Desk...

Big pile of WORD, and I am a guy.

I was thinking they should try an episode with Welling in a silver speedo, repeating the word "Moist" over and over for forty minutes.

Hey, it worked for Omar's other show.
Dread

With the advent of the internet, you'd think the suits at the network would realize that casting pretty people isn't going to pave over a profound lack of quality.

People can log on to the net and see a LOT of pretty people without suffering through bad dialogue, inane and derivative plots, and constant product pitches.
Eurybia
It's like I went to sleep, but instead of waking up in the morning, I woke up in a nightmare (or hell). Smallville Season 9?!?!

Also, Dawn is an idiot if she thinks women 18-34 only watch shows for beautiful men. A coworker (21) and I (23) were just complaining the other day about how television shows seem to think they can only get by with beautiful people, instead of actually looking for talented ones (on Smallville and SPN, they're lucky, because the casts are both beautiful and talented, for the most part).
jimmy4

[Bitterness] Except for Chloe /*rolls eyes* She's not pretty and does not deserve anything. [/Bitterness]
My GOD, a season 9 for Smallville? Yes Dawn, because all we care about is beautiful men and not the storylines.
Eurybia
My GOD, a season 9 for Smallville? Yes Dawn, because all we care about is beautiful men and not the storylines.
Also, even if it was only about the beautiful men, they lost half of theirs! Not that AA isn't good looking- he is- but no beautiful men they come up with will beat out MR and TW. (Of course, half the time I think this show thinks Lex is as ugly as it thinks Chloe is... Which is madness in both cases)
Teen Titan
I guess this is where I take this, since the other thread is about to be closed.

And "Chloe's dead" is pretty hard to buy now, too, thanks to the writers resurrecting her twice over the past season. How do we know she's really dead? How do we know she won't come back to life at some point?

I've been thinking about this too. How can Clark ever really believe that Chloe is dead? No matter the circumstances. She's been dead twice before, and come back to life. So I can't imagine Clark letting Chloe be buried. No matter how dead she seemed. He'd always be wondering if she was going to wake up.

So I could see Oliver keeping 'dead' Chloe somewhere, fitted with alarms, or under observation or whatever, so that if she were to wake up, they would be alerted. This way, you can have Chloe offscreen, and if they can get her back for a guest appearance, bam, she wakes up.

I'm really torn, because on the one hand I don't want Chloe gone. But on the other, as someone has already said, I don't think I can handle a season of Chloe watching Clark and her cousin moon over each other, while Clark takes a job at the Planet AND makes eyes at the new villain!

But as much as that sucks, I'm almost more upset by the idea that Kara won't be around next season. We barely got to know her! And Laura Vandervoort doesn't deserve it. I feel like they've gotten me all invested in Kara, and now they're going to yank her away. At least I had seven seasons of Chloe.

And the worst bit is, its so out of nowhere. It never occurred me that Kara wouldn't be a part of season 8. Man, when I said you could do without a cast member next season I was talking about JIMMY!

And how do you explain Kara's absence? Kill her? Leaving her stuck in the Phantom Zone just makes Clark seem like a massive douche.

Gah.

Damn you Smallville. I was all excited for season eight, and in the space of a day you've managed to ruin all the good will and benefit of the doubt I was giving you.

ETA: This is heartening:

well, let's ask the CW: "We are in talks with her," responds a network rep. "Hopefully she will return next season."

But still, I'd rather see her back for a few episodes to wrap up her arc rather than a full season, unless they're going to play a Clark and Chloe romance, however brief.

Can someone please find me information on what's going on with Laura Vandervoort next season? Why doesn't someone ask The CW about her name not being on the list? I guess I'm probably the only one who cares.
ldok

Not benefit of doubt for this show... ever!
rowan sjet
How can Clark ever really believe that Chloe is dead?

I assume after she starts to smell and decompose. But then again, who's to say she won't suddenly regenerate?
Eurybia

I care!

But as much as that sucks, I'm almost more upset by the idea that Kara won't be around next season. We barely got to know her! And Laura Vandervoort doesn't deserve it. I feel like they've gotten me all invested in Kara, and now they're going to yank her away.
I'm not more upset by it, but I certainly am upset. I steeled myself for no more Lex, I'm gearing myself up for the hit that is no more Chloe, but then to take away Kara without giving her any real storyline? A good deal of S7 was Karaville, but it had no point! All it was was Kara losing her memory or gaining memories or being screwed over when it came to her stuff. Despite that, I feel she has potential as a character, probably because I feel Laura is really likeable. If she goes without any real impact to the show, then what's the point?

Oh wait, this is Smallville. Nothing has a point.

And they can't just leave her in the PZ! Not cool! I guess they could say she's going off to see the world, but that would require at least one more episode. And you're right, Teen Titan, it did come out of nowhere.

If she goes too, I'm going to have her join evil!Chloe and Lex in my own version of Offscreenville (which takes place in Egypt, right by the river).
Teen Titan
The thing about Kara going off to see the world though, is that anytime Clark really needed her she could be back in an instant, with the super-speed and flying and all.

Sadly, I really only see two options. Kill her, or leave her stuck in the Phantom Zone.

It would be crazy of me to call The CW and ask, right? Who would I even call?
CantThinkUpName

AM back - good.

AM back as a "series regular", which does not (as far as I can tell) mean female lead / co-star / 2nd billing - not so good.

22 episodes of BorgChloe - RepairmanBob watching Earl live.

AM back as a "series regular", which does not (as far as I can tell) mean female lead / co-star / 2nd billing - not so good.

But so far as we know, she's the only person other than TW contracted for every episode. I think that makes her "second billing" almost by default.
EllyF

Well, I don't think we can come to any conclusions yet. He carefully says that details are being kept under wraps. We may not know who's billed second until we see the credits roll in September. We usually don't. But as PolarB says, she's apparently signed for twenty-two episodes, and as far as we know no one else besides TW is. That's a very positive sign for AM fans, I think.

22 episodes of BorgChloe - RepairmanBob watching Earl live.

Agreed. Now that they have her, they need to do something worthwhile with her. And the freakin' Chimmy must die.
CantThinkUpName
It is such a testament to AM that they can spend an entire season massacring her character in more and more horrible ways, give us The Sprint Clip, and a whole bunch of information about S8 that makes it seem like such a travesty it's not worth tuning in for.

Yet hearing AM- Borg!Chloe- is returning makes me want to return too. But at this point I will give the show a few episodes to make me believe again. To make me believe they care about Chloe, that she'll be more than Chlimmy, or be a Clois, Clana or Tark cheerleader.

Just typing Tark made me remember Tess and how annoying those newbies will be. Maybe AM won't be enough to keep me.
Teen Titan
So the Mack is back. Excellent (I hope).

Next order of business: I demand a Clark and Chloe romance! Even if it's just for a few episodes. I consider that non-negotiable in wrapping up Chloe's story for her final year.

They need to at least have their shot. If it fails, which it has to, that's fine. Then they can be friends. And I won't have to hate Lois when she takes the man her cousin has loved for so many years.
pyralis
That's the problem. My view is that TPTB think that what's happened with character development on all fronts in this season is a good thing and will get them to their end game. Watching 22 episodes of NotReporter!Chloe cheerlead other people's relationships and be consumed by Chlorg will not be enjoyable to me. If that's the way it's going to play out, I hope she got them to cough up a truckload of cash and the opportunity to direct, because the character development is not going to be there.
jimmy4
I see talk of AM returning? Has it been announced? Where can I read this?
Thanks.

OMG! Lex as a Sultan! YES!!! After his being so cold in the Arctic, naturally he would go someplace warm to recover.

[Hums "Midnight in the Oasis" while imagining Lex in flowing robes lounging on pillows.]

From Wikipedia-Sultan (Arabic: سلطان‎) is an Islamic title, with several historical meanings. Originally it was an Arabic language abstract noun meaning "strength", "authority", or "rulership", derived from the Arabic masdar سلطة sulṭah, meaning "authority" or "power".

I remember her being billed fourth this year was a big surprise to everyone during the season premiere. So I guess nothing new here.

However, for me personally the billing order will be the first little clue as to how PES3 are going to treat AM/Chloe. This detail will most certainly influence how much benefit of the doubt I am prepared to give S8.

On a related note, despite everything that went down the last couple of weeks (or months or years), I feel somewhat happy that I can hang out a little longer with you guys.
Lester Fritz
This is great news! I was beginning to worry about the fate of the show, i love TW, but SV wouldn't be the same without Lex, Lionel, Chloe and even Lana, and after the bitterness surrounding Season 8, this news are a good change of pace.

Hopefully the won't ruin this chance of getting things right.
Eurybia
Chloe! Chloe! Yay! :D I'll take a BorgChloe season over a NoChloe season.
KSiteCraig500
They could theoretically pull a Willow and put her on last... "and Allison Mack as Chloe"... as she's the one with seniority who is not one of the newbies or the lead.
rowan sjet
"and Allison Mack as Chloe"

Yeah, that would be a pretty good idea too. She will be the only one now who's been with TW since the Pilot, so seniority is definitely on her side.

OTOH, they might want the name recognition of "Erica Durance as Lois Lane" there instead, in which case AM should definitely get second billing.
ldok

So true I was thinking on how much I will miss you guys once you/I left. I think this is one of the best places I had posted since I started on the forum posting. Wich was on 2001 when SV premiered. It was not an SV site FYI.

So Cloe will be back?? Bleechh!! Let's just hope the new showrunners treat the fugly midget as the irrelevancy that she is.
gdwm
They wanted her back for the full 22 episodes and apparently were willing to give her what she was asking for, so she's not likely to be treated as irrelevant at all in season 8.

Whether they'll do right by her or any of the characters remains to be seen, though; right now they seem to treat every last one of them as irrelevant.
