Yes they've introduced a lot of elements from Clark's later life, but Clark at the DP, Clark putting on the suit, Clark marrying/dating Lois Lane aren't what this show is about.
I think when they introduced Chlois/Nois, they're obligated to tell that part of the story as much as with Lana. It's the downside of the audience knowing how the story is supposed to end, when accompanied with how badly Clana has been done over and over and over and over again, they lose the hook of how tragic this relationship with her is supposed to be -
especially because ILL (whether you believe in Chlois/Nois) is right there waiting for Clark to get his head out of Lana's ass.
IMO, most of the fandom just wants Clark to move on past Lana, but the show and the writers seem intent to stick to an eight-year old series plan that hasn't evolved with their audience and how the audience has changed. Kring is doing it, so is Kripke with various aspects of Heroes and SPN.
I also fail to see how they can be so blind as to see that Lana isn't working - they've called Clana a dead horse and so forth, so the knowledge is there - so, it brings me back as to why the initial concept of the story couldn't have evolved - it's supposed to be about Clark and Lex, IMO, not Lana and her Love Life.
but AlMiles are under no obligation to give that to us and indeed, appear to be planning not to, nor have they ever said they would. I don't see that as laziness or lack of caring, it's just not what the concept of the show is about and never has been.
I disagree. I think it is laziness and an inability to think beyond an ending they thought of eight years ago that's apparently going to cure everything and make this show nice and shiny at the end of it's run. I think their thinking hasn't evolved, or taken the audience's views - especially on Lana - into consideration. Right now, IMO, the expectation is that Lana will be absolved of all her sins and be nice, and bright and sweet by the end of the series in order to wave Clark off into the big, bad world as per usual. Which is what they usually do. So, yeah, I don't really think they care about the show anymore. About the spin-off they can get from it - IMO, that they care much more about.
