Boy, am I in a quandry. I love the Legion, but I can't stand that Teen Titans-style of animation. I'll probably give the show a try but it will have to be really well written to make up for the way the characters look.
cambridgeguy
Since Legion is going to be showing up on KidsWB first, I would definitely expect it to skew younger. KidsWB has been aiming for the younger audience for years (there's a reason they made a teenage Terry Batman rather than continue the adventures of Bruce Wayne), and I don't expect them to change. There were some interesting and wacky ideas about making some more kid friendly Timm shows as well (Terry in space, for example) before JL started up.

Back on topic, even though they have enough episodes for syndication does anyone really expect CN to show them? The original JL hasn't been on in quite a while even though some of those episodes are definitely relevant to JLU events. It's too bad, since season 2 JL was, in my opinion, the best season with season 2 of JLU (which was heavily tied to some of those episodes) a close second.
Palimpsest
Flash and Substance just aired on YTV tonight. I'd say this was definately one of the best episodes of the series. The villains were great, Flash kicked ass, and the reporter was hillarious.

I saw it! It was awesome!

So, who's this Orion guy? What's his claim to fame? I've never heard of him before. He seems pretty tough, but does he have anything going for him besides a funky helmet and a surly attitude?
Harrison Fjord
Orion is the son of Darkseid. He and Scott Free were "traded" by their fathers (High Father of the New Gods, in Scott's case) as part of a tenuous peace treaty between the New Gods and Apokolips.

Orion is, I suppose, a case study in nature vs. nurture in comic book superheroy.

No, it's Kalibak not Scott Free is Highfather's son.
Harrison Fjord
I believe Kalibak is Darkseid's firstborn. At any rate, Wikipedia backs my version. :)'

And rather intereseting when you combine his case study with that of Scott Free: the one with "good nature" and the one with "good nurture" both turned out as heros.
Harrison Fjord
Yeah, but then you have to remember that a large part of Orion's "nurture" is a Mother Box that he needs to keep his natural rage in check. Mmm... Focusyn.
Palimpsest
Huh. Fascinating.

And something else. Seeing him on his little sky scooter thingy gave me the strongest feeling of deja vu, but I couldn't place it until just now. Wasn't he part of the crowd that greeted Amazo when it returned to Earth?

Yup, and that bit was in the opening or closing credits for a while.

Damn. More Japanimation. Y'know, I was a kid once too and I would have loved JLU back then. C'mon, Timm. If JLU is dying then give us a revamped Herculoids.

Funniest ep. ever!

"At least I can find out his identity. [beat] I have no idea who this is."

"That's not restful!"

I have a feeling Tala may come looking for Flash for reasons other than villainy.
Lantern7
All this time, I was looking for the humor of Michael Rossenbaum playing Lex Luthor...and I didn't think of Clancy Brown bringing the funny. I am ashamed of myself.

Oh, and great jobs from Starman and Red Torando. Could we bring in Jack Knight and Dolemite instead?
Rai
Oh my god, that was funny. And Mr. Terrific thinking fast with the artifical gravity controls!

I, Lex Luthor, approve this episode.
RandomWatcher
Though I was slightly mad to see Grodd wasn't dead.
Skyblade
Wonder what Flash's reaction was when he found out he was getting Grodd's sloppy seconds?

A live villian is more useful than a dead one.
Vermicious Knid
Hey, that was the Legion in the preview!

I found this more painful than funny, although not washing his hands 'because I'm evil' rocked. God, I hate mind-swapping stories.

Spotted Livewire hanging around in the background.
Pat Agonia
Even if Grodd wasn't exactly indisposed, Lex proved his indomitability over practically everyone else in the Legion at the end with that little stunt. Stewie Griffin's a florid upstart compared to him.
MusexMoirai
Boy, that was a fun episode with some good one-liners. Clancy Brown did a bang-up job as Flash-in-Lex and I thought it was amusing that while Michael Rosenbaum's Lex-in-Flash didn't sound like Smallville Lex, his Dr. Polaris did. I also liked how expressive Luthor became when Flash was in him and started showing a wider range of facial expressions and arm movement.

Dr. Polaris: *ahem*

Flash/Lex: "What?"

Dr. Polaris: "You gonna wash your hands?"

Flash/Lex: "Nooo. 'Cause I'm evil."

I laughed at that for a solid five minutes.
ArchStanton
That was the best. I also liked "That's not restful!"

Clancy Brown and Michael Rosenbaum were incredible. They both got each other's character down pat.

Tala reminded both of the Baroness from G.I. Joe with that accent and girlfriend of the bald bad guy(I know Destro was in a iron mask plate but he looked bald) and Jinx from the Teen Titans.

Mr. Terrific was well, terrific in this episode!
Fredericks
Damn. So mad I missed this one. Is CN going to repeat any episodes once the series wraps up? Anyone know?

Given how long it took them to decide to let the show run its course, I seriously doubt it.

She'll have to get in line with Fire and Linda Clark. I like how Flash has suddenly become the JL's Don Juan, albeit a relatively clueless one, this season.

I agree that this episode was hysterical, with excellent one-liners and voice work by Brown and Rosenbaum. Also, I appreciate that the comedy didn't prevent Mr. Terrific from acting intelligently or Lex from reasserting his badass status at the end.
scratcheyes
Clancy Brown was totally hilarious as Flash/Lex. Incredible!!

Man, JLU is just great stuff. Rarely do comic book fans see the source material translated well in other mediums, but JLU not only pays respect to it but outshines it in many ways.

Cartoon Network is completely insane for cancelling their best show... especially since it wasn't even an issue of ratings. And I thought FOX was bad.

I'm not prepared to say goodbye to the DC Animated Universe, especially when there are so many properties waiting to see the Batman/Superman/JL treatment. I think there could be great potential in a Green Lantern Corps show with John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, etc., especially since the Green Lantern property is gaining tremendous popularity, but if and when its made, I know it'll probably be more along the lines of The Batman or Teen Titans than the Timm-style.

ETA: TimeMonkey, it all has to do with advertising money. Yes, JLU gets good ratings, but since the people watching it are adults, they won't neccesarily be buying the toys and candy advertised throughout it. Therefore, in CN's mind, the ratings are worthless.
TimeMonkey
I don;t even understand why it has to be cancelled. Does it really matter if people other than your target audience are the main viewers? People are still watching it.
sef

Word! While I know Rosenbaum can be hilarious... Clancy Brown was a shock. I've loved the man's acting for years, but I've never seen him do flat-out comedy.

Gonna have to watch it again :).

Hee! Best Episode Ever! This one is never coming off of my TiVo...

Cancelled? What the freak? You bastards!
Vercingetorix
I love that both Flash and Kid Flash are catnip to the villianous ladies.

Why WAS it cancelled? I probably shouldn't comment on the episodes, since I think I'm ahead of America and I don't want to spoil anything.

But this really is much better than any comic they're putting out these days. I didn't care for the original Justice League but have loved Justice League Unlimited.

You and me both! Excellent episode.
I'm gonna have a hard time knowing this is probably the last of the DC Timmverse we'll ever see. Damn.

Let me chime in as another saying that the cancellation SUCKS.

I take it you're not familar with his work as Mr Krabs on SpongeBob Squarepants then? You'd never ever guess it was the same man who gave life to Kurgen and Lex Luthor unless you paid close attention to the credits.

It's too bad that the Timmverse is being shut down, after this past episode and "Flash and Substance," I think I could have really got behind a Flash series.
Zerowing

For DC anyway. There are rumors that Marvel has been trying to woo Timm to their camp to produce cartoons in the "Timmverse" style for Marvel comics heroes.

The rumors haven't been substantiated so far.
xtremesage

I could really get behind a Legion Of Super Heroes series!

Can you imagine Timmverse versions of The X-Men or Avengers? That would rock! But only if they brought the sharp, adult, writing of Justice League Unlimited with them.
Hasbro
I would love a Question series.

Whoah. No. Never watched the show, but that's a reason to give it a shot... :)

I'd think that the one note would get old really quick.
Aqualad
According to my comic book boards, a Superboy and The Legion of Superheroes show is definitely in the works. So the cancellation of JLU may not be the final word on the Timm-verse.

Plus, we always have Krypto.
Trip McNeely
Actually, it looks like the Timm-version of the DC universe is done. There's a post on page 230 of this thread that links to character designs for the Legion and the drawings are very much along the lines of the Teen Titans shows.

BTW - am I the only one who thinks that the giant cleft chin on Superboy makes him look like Powdered Toast Man?
Vercingetorix

Timm would be awesome on the Ultimates or Ultimate X-Men.

Christ those are some ugly designs. Worse than the Teen Titans characters.
Blech.
Hugin
Yeah, I like the Teen Titans looks, this is like...the Ed, Edd N Eddy style. The Disney's Hunchback style. Yuck.

Those are early concept designs, though, and we've been told the final product won't look quite like that. But I do think it's safe to say the style will be more TT and less JLU.

Comics Continuum has a link to a preliminary logo design: http://www.comicscontinuum.com/stories/0603/09/index.htm I actually like this one and hope the final logo is similar.

(When is it okay to start a thread on the LSH cartoon, anyway?)
