Newsarama's Steve Fritz
speaks briefly with Bruce Timm and James Tucker; vague spoilers abound, but CN is still unwilling to commit to a US airdate for the completed episodes ("the unofficial word is late spring/early summer 2006."). Also, the speculation about other DC properties WB has in the works is very intriguing...

From the Fritz article:
As far as Tucker was concerned, the show really didn’t hit its stride until very recently. The scene was when the crew thought it would be fun to have Batman and Superman sitting in the Batmobile sipping coffee and making small talk while waiting for a signal from the rest of the team.
Did this happen yet in the eps we've seen so far? It sounds vaguely familar but maybe I'm just getting it confused with a scene in a some comic.

"Very recently" is a bit of a stretch. This was way back in the second season of JL, during the Amazo episode. Batman and Superman were trying to find Luthor while the rest of the League, sans MM, were getting beaten up.
Since I've been watching 24, does anyone else think it would be kind of funny if JLU did previouslies with the 24 style freeze frames? Not all of the episodes need them, but some definitely require watching what's come before.

Yeah, well. I wouldn't count on YTV if I were you. I don't think they've shown everything from the middle of Season 3 yet. This show doesn't seem to be a big priority for YTV.

Then who do we get?
A bevy of un-super-powered heroes; Green Arrow, Star Girl, Mr. Terrific, Shinning Knight, Vigilante, the Crimson Avenger and Green Arrows' former sidekick, Speedy. Most of our heroes have been attending a parade to honour the Justice League.
So for anyone who has seen the ep, does

True that. But I would also opine that

Sad news, but I only regret that the series didn't get a bigger push when it was still a going concern. Timm, Tucker, McDuffie, the voice cast, and everyone else who made the show have nothing to be ashamed of; they negotiated the change in format admirably, and they didn't run out of good stories before they ran out of episodes, which is both rare and salutary.

I couldn't wait so I downloaded a few of the episodes.
F&S: I really liked Bruce being a big softie when it comes to Flash. I also dug seeing Wally as Wally.
Dead Reckoning: It was a stupid plan! I am glad Luthor took over. Also seeing Ape-Batman, Ape-Superman & Ape-Wonder_Woman was great. I didn't like that they had Batman's body do the shooting, I mean we all know how Bruce feels about guns.
Patriot Act: I liked seeing the non-powered guys getting some attention, of course they didn't include Batman since even though he has no super powers he somehow gets by, I liked that. It was great seeing grown up Speedy, I didn't know GA & Speedy had Batman & Robin type tiff going on.
The Great Brain Robbery: "At least I get to find out Flash's secret identity.... It's uh no one I know" I loved this episode a lot!

Re: Patriot Act...
This episode seemed so aimless and pointless. There was very little characterization and almost the entire episode was one big fight scene. *yawn*
And then, when it's time for the ep to end, Eiling just says "Hmm, you're right, I have become what I hate. Goodbye!" Huh-wha? How lame.
I feel like I sat through a half-hour of scenes that had been trimmed from some other episode. And I hate Nathan Fillion's voice as Vigilante. Hate. Stargirl is so very cool, though.
And it was nice to see the Newsboy Legion and Speedy.

This sucks! Words cannot express how much I hate Cartoon Network for the way they have consistently treated this series. JL/JLU was the best thing on the network and they never treated the show with any respect. It was intelligent and throughout the series paid homage to DC history with its character cameos. CN has never, from Day 1, supported this show. Every other show on the network has been repeated throughout the week ad nasaum. With JL/JLU, if you missed it on the first airing, you were screwed. No repeats, no marathons, no nothing. Inconsistent scheduling of episodes and periods where the show wasn't on at all. Is this how you program a series you want people to watch and like? All I've got to say is Fuck You CN! Bring on the DVD season box sets!

I kinda, kinda disagree. The first 2 seasons of JL was repeated fairly often. And I thought it was promoted fairly, maybe not as much, but we did see ads.
I can't hate CN too much, because it wasn't their idea to add all these obscure heroes and supervillians. Yeah, they shorten the episodes length, but it was Timm and Co who made things worse cramming all those heroes in episodes. Some liked it, some didn't.
Whatever the case, I did like JL and i'll miss it on a whole.

Well, this was hardly unexpected, but it's still too bad the CN seems to be phasing out quality original animation in favor of dubbed anime. It's frustrating because JLU had, among other things:
-High ratings
-Critical acclaim
-Strong toy line
-High caliber talent in all aspects of the production
-Large fanbase, especially among older folks
I'm still not sure why CN didn't try to market it as more of an adult show as opposed to just plunking it down with little fanfare.
However, the DCAU has died before and still come back (remember when BTAS ended and that was supposed to be it?) so there's always hope for a DTV. If not, at least the DVDs are coming out.

AICNhas a review of yet another new ep (5.9) overseas.
I just saw it, and it was very good. Even though it's mostly a filler ep, but a good one at that. I just love to hear Amy Acker's voice because I.Love.Her. She's the new princess of geekdom if you ask me.
Anyway, the dialogue was so sharp and funny that I still can't believe it's gonna be over soon. Example: Huntress: "So..what are you wearing?" Question: "..blue overcoat,..and a fedora" Best line came from Sonar: "Chickaplooza??" And the fight scene were very well done as well

Grudge Match: Totally throw away episode in terms of the major story arc, but I enjoyed it.
It was great seeing the Huntress & Black Canary work together, always great to see Shayera.
Question & Huntress are cute together, also 32nd flavour!
But the absolute best was seeing a glimpse of Nightwing in Blüdhaven! Now we know for sure that Teen Titans is not in the same continuity as JLU since JLU's Robin is Tim. Here's a screencap.

Feb 1, 2006 @ 8:18 am
5x09: Grudge Match I think many superhero comic geeks have a fondness for power heirarchies, as expressed in the "if so and so fought, who'd win" conversations, but also just in general establishments or re-establishments of who are the "benchmarks" in various categories. There's pleasure in seeing those benchmarks reinforced, and there can even be pleasure in seeing them subverted if the subversion seems plausible (due to someone's powers being boosted temporarily or permanently, or due to someone else being weakened).
So, this episode was fun in that sense. Huntress vs. Black Canary, who wins? What if Black Canary is somewhat tired out? What if she can't scream effectively? How about Hawkgirl? How about Vixen (cooler in the animated series than I ever found her in the comics)? And can all four of them together take down Wonder Woman? (Uhh...no. No they can't. Which is how it should be.) Not much of an episode in ongoing plot terms, but the fights were fun, being reminded where Wonder Woman stands in the overall DC power heirarchy (way the hell up there) was fun, the one liners were fun and anything with Huntress is fun for me. Love Amy Acker, love Huntress/Question interactions.

British folk: Do you guys have Baskin Robbins in the UK? I don't ever remember seeing one when I been over there (and I would have noticed since I worked at one while way back when in high school). Anyway, just wondering if Question's '32 flavor' line made any sense?
Yeah, despite myself, I really enjoyed the filler ep. I'm not really into the fight and action sequences of the show but I loved the fact that this was a girl power ep. And as Hugin said, it was pretty nifty to see the power heirarchy put to the test. However, I do have to say the Question appearance is really what won my heart. Because of JLU, Question is now my all time favorite DC character.
Comics/DC's 52 series related spoiler: I wonder if The Question in the coming 52 series will be based more on JLU's version of him. Hope so.

Never a big fan of LSH (always struck me as being far too corny) so hardly recognized anyone (good or bad) in this ep. But it was nice ep, and it had one truly great scene:

So I recently caught up with the entire series and I noticed there were a bunch of Whedon-verse actors doing the voices: Gina Torres, Nathan Fillion, Morena Baccarin, Amy Acker (heart). Is there an explicit connection with the showrunners or just geekdom coincidence? Thanks in advance.

I read somewhere that Timm and crew are huge Whedon show fans and basically sought after Whedon actors for their various voice roles. Which I think is awesome because I've enjoyed all their performances. Whedon is genius so, casting his actors is as safe a bet as one can hope for; casting counting for 90% of a production's success and all (or however that saying goes).
Speaking of voice talent: "Far From Home":
Being a Gilmore Girls fan, I loved the choice of Matt Czuchry as Brainiac. For me, his voice performance alone gave credence to Supergirl/Brainiac falling in love at first sight plot point.

Coolies MereyGB! Yea I heart Mr. Joss Whedon too. And I love the fact that the Justice League characters they voice for are more or less a shade of their Whedonverse characters. Nathan Fillion's Mal can certainly be heard in Vigilante; Amy Acker's Fred and her cutey perkiness in Huntress; Juliet Landau's odd Drusilla comes up even as she sounds Transylvanian (or wherever Tala's from).
It's just wicked cool for fans of Buffy, Angel and Firefly.
Oh yea, I was pleasantly surprised as well when I saw Logan when in the credits.
