According to comicscontinuum(from Nov 2):
"No new episodes of Justice League Unlimited are scheduled for the Nov. 7-Dec. 4 period, and it's likely the next new episode will air in 2006."

That sucks. Way to go CN.

Ditto.
samsnee
Ok, so we know it won't air again anytime soon. But do we know if the whole season has already been produced? The last ep described on TV.com is "The Great Brain Robbery" where Flash and Lex switch bodies . But has there been episode produced that wraps up the whole LoD arc and reveals Grodd's real intentions?
Rai
Ack! samsnee, that might qualify as spoilers there.
Curare
Does anyone know who I can write to about this travesty? I know it won't change anything but I'm just too pissed about this. Thanks.
bossu
Yep. CN blew their wad too early; shouldn't have shown four weeks' worth of episodes in two. I would've been more than happy to wait, until next year, for the start of the new season. An "uninterrupted" new season.

I don't think they did. Only 2 of the 4 eps shown were good, IMO. The season premiere was pretty weak as was the WW ep. If this is the last season, than maybe they just need to show em' and be done with it.
samsnee
Anyone catch the new Superman trailer yet? I'm so used to the low-key voice work of animated Supes that I'm curious how this new guy will play it.
monsterzero
They played the teaser trailer on Smallville last night, but the guy never spoke. Instead, it has a voiceover of Marlon Brando talking to Clark from the first Superman film.

With Cartoon Network having officially passed on Season Six of Teen Titans, it leaves me a little worried about what could happen for Justice League.

This show is on its fifth season, but I hope it's not the last.
samsnee
I have a feeling it's the last. Considering CN actually aired commercials for TT and gave it multiple timeslots on its schedule, and still canceled it, I don't see much hope for JLU. I'll be surprised if they actually show the remaining eps for this season.
Distant Sun
The network has done absolutely nothing to imply they're going to renew this show. It's a shame, but that's where we stand.
bossu
Man, it'll be a sad day in television, if there isn't a Timm-verse/influenced animated show to watch, in 2007.

Of course, I'm assuming CN will decide to "share" the remaining JLU episodes next year with the rest of us. With so many of my favorite shows getting canned or low-balled, over the last month and a half, I could use any sliver of good news right about now.
fatneck
I think it was pretty much assume with the fans that this year was the last with JL/JLU. Last season, with the overabundance of obscure heroes, the season finale with Batman Beyond and this year, with the showing of 4 new episodes in a row.

I figure CN letting Timm add all those heroes/villians was them letting a person they admire, go buckwild because they saw the end coming.

I feel for the fans still interested in the show, but I lost interest when it became an overcrowded mess of heroes/villians.

The first season sets of Justice League and Batman Beyond were just announced for release for this February.
monsterzero
Superman Homepage says that the date of release for JL season 1 is March 21. Honestly, I don't know if I'm gonna get it. Looking back on season 1, there really aren't that many episodes that I could see myself watching over and over. In terms of writing, the show improved drastically in its second season.
lurk3000
I think I'll wait for the second season as well. Batman Beyond is also being released on March 21. (First season 13 episodes)
Rai
I am STOKED for the JL box set. I've been waiting so very very long, and I love the WWII episodes.

Also, if the first set doesn't sell well, they might decide not to release any more, and that's too sad to contemplate.

I saw this over at Toonzone the other day and I thought I'd do my part and spread the word:

With Justice League: Season 1 just having been announced on DVD, there is a chance that Season 2 of Justice League being released on DVD in Full Screen, despite it having been animated in Widescreen.

A note from show creator / producer Bruce Timm was posted on the forums concerning this matter:

We’ll be starting the special features stuff in the next few weeks, which means a decision on fullscreen or widescreen will need to be made very soon. I’ve been doing my best to persuade the WHV folks to release the season two set (and all subsequent JLU sets) in widescreen, but it’s an uphill battle (fullscreen format is the standard default mode for “family entertainment” DVDs). A deluge of polite, but emphatic, letters expressing fan support for widescreen DVD sets just might tip the scales.

In an effort to inform Warner Bros. Home Video about this issue, the forum members, Toon Zone News, The Watchtower and The World's Finest have started a 'Justice League: Season 2 DVD Widescreen' campaign. The only thing we're asking fans of Justice League to do is write a letter to Warner Home Video, expressing your desire for the second season of Justice League (and for that matter, future releases of Justice League Unlimited) in an 1.85:1 Anamorphic Widescreen release. It's possible that a deluge of concise and polite letters may help their decision on how to proceed with the Aspect Ratio for Season 2 of Justice League.

Listed below is the mailing address for Warner Home Video. It's imperative that these letters get sent out as soon as possible, as production on the second season of Justice League's DVD release will begin within a few weeks.

tvshowsondvd.com is reporting that WB has decided to release all future JL sets in Widescreen, while still going forward with full screen on Season 1. A choice I personally agree with. While I respect the creators' opinion that Season 1 looks best cropped for widescreen, it was cropped for widescreen and I tend to be an originalist when it comes to full vs. wide. If the show was designed to be viewed in full screen, that's how I want my DVD. I don't care if in Europe they get to see faked widescreen with boom mics and other nonsense visable. Season 1 of Justice League was made as a full screen show, the rest were made as widescreen. Go with the original animation, I say.
alexias
Nevermind. I found my answer!
samsnee
JLU, along with Teen Titans, was voted one of the best animated shows of the year on tv.com. There's a video from the Great Brain Robbery, but I can't get it work.
monsterzero
So does anyone have confirmation of the rumors that JLU will return on Jan. 1?
Lantern7
I checked Yahoo...nothing doing. I know this Saturday's out...CN is having a Naruto "Ninja Year's Eve" marathon.
Rai
My god, we've been posting on this ONE PAGE for a MONTH! I miss the lively conversation times.

I'm curious -- for those of you who are fans of the show but not necessarily comics readers, how did you decide to watch JL/U? What brought you to it in the first place?
monsterzero
I was never into DC comics, at least not the mainstream continuity stuff, so JL was my introduction to the DCU. I got into JL thru my love of B:TAS, S:TAS; basically everything Timm/Dini and company have done.

And I checked the Cartoon Network schedule: they're definitely NOT showing new JLU episodes on Jan. 1. Sigh, I hope they start sometime before I forget all about the show.

Oh, and I know I'm a few hours late, but Merry Xmas!
TimeMonkey
I started watching because I give pretty much all super hero shows a chance. Plus it was an opportunity to find out who the rest of the heros were (I only knew who Batman and Superman when I started watching). Personally I'm liking the expanded cast, it's a great way to give people who don't read the comics a way to learn about the characters.
Black Canary
I'm seriously dying out here without any new JLU eps. I've watched and re-watched my dvd's and DVR'ed eps, but jeez, enough is enough people! I need me my JLU!
Pat Agonia
The 1989 Batman flick was my main gateway drug. Then of course Batman: the Animated Series followed, and the rest they say is history.
MrX
It really did start back with Batman: TAS, for me. I'd been a fan of Batman before that, I'd seen a few cartoons and old eps of the Adam West version. I fell in love with TAS though. I've watched every Timm show since (though, unfortunately, I skipped over quite a bit of Beyond).
alexias
I grew up with the Superfriends as my favorite cartoon so when I saw they were making an updated version (that's how I viewed it anyways) I jumped at it. Plus I love Wonder Woman, and will watch anything Wonder Woman related, with the exception being the Cathy Lee Crosby movie because that soooooo wasn't Wonder Woman! : )

I remember being a little disappointed in the pilot episode as to how they chose to portray Diana but felt like as the series went on they got a better feel for the character, even though her powers were a bit uneven at times. I mean in one episode she is more than holding her own against Supes, and in another she's getting flattened by Kalibrak. The hell? Either way, I was just glad to have WW on TV again, and will be sad when the series ends.
TimeMonkey

It makes more sense if you note that Superman usually isn't fighting back as much as he should be for whatever reason.
clarkins
At least we still have the comics. Thank goodness for Books A Million--I can go get my fix there.
Rai
The JLU comics are quite cute! They're not as complex as JLU, but they're well done and clever all the same. Who knew I'd honestly enjoy a story centering around VIBE?

The Teen Titans Go! comics are even better though, I have to say. I'm not the hugest fan of the show, but the comics are solid.
samsnee
For me, it was B:TAS that sucked me in. I've always been a comics fan, but not really one who had the patience to follow all the entangled storylines and relaunches. The X-men series on Fox gave me interest, but it was B:TAS that showed me how involved I could really become.
space cadet
I too, was born a Batman: The Animated Series fan. From Kindergarten to sedond grade, I would come home and watch it every afternoon. When I was nine, I discovered the reruns of Superfriends on Cartoon Network, and somewhere I still have a tape of "The Batman/Superman Adventures" that my mom would tape off of USA in the mornings. Both shows were truly awful, but they got me hooked on the idea. I don't think I saw Justice League until I was fifteen, probably because I've never had the WB, but I saw some, and while I don't think I really enjoyed it until JLU, I watched every week that I wasn't off at school.

My qualm with JLU is that I really hate the white Supergirl outfit. I know that may be an unpopular opinion, but the gloves? Seriously? I like the outfit that the current comic Supergirl has, but I would take the Pre-Crisis suit with the horrible headband over the one they've got her in now. I know it's grounded in the comics, as well as S:TAS, but sheesh.

I''m a Supergirl fan. What can I say? Besides Infinite Crisis (which I hate more and understand less with each passing issue), it's the only non-Gotham DC comic that seems to be worth reading right now.
Cypher21
I'm guessing you haven't seen any episodes from this season of JLU space cadet, as they updated Kara's costueme to the current Supergirl costume from the comic books. She looks more adult and in all honesty very attractive, you got to give to the animators, they know how to draw the female superheroes such as Shayera and Black Canary.
Trevacious Guy
Yes, they've perfected the cartoon superfemme, in the Timmverse. :]

Just read some news from Comic Continumm and I have to say, why is CN being so vague about when JLU airing new eps and is/isn't it cancelled?

I hate to sound like a wet blanket but I don't get the feeling that JLU is getting renewed, and if thats the case, then CN can sucked it! Why? Because of all this secrecy concerning the state of JLU. I've dealt with my fave show being cancelled, but the way CN is handling things makes me sick.
Its not like we're 2 yrs olds who gonna cry(some of us, anyways) so just tell the audience what the hell is going on! Sheesh!

I believe Timm, WB, and CN knows and just being pricks about it. I'm sorry but its frustrating to be left dangling while TPTB are playing the fans like a joke.
lurk3000
Here's the link to comicscontinuum that fatneck mentioned.

Yeah...no real news on when exactly JLU will be back. Sad.

Unless, of course, you happen to live in the UK. There's a short clip from an upcoming episode on tv.com, and from what I've read the UK teasers have shown some footage from future episodes. This seems to indicate that the entire season is either done or very near completion.

I believe Timm, WB, and CN knows and just being pricks about it. I'm sorry but its frustrating to be left dangling while TPTB are playing the fans like a joke.

I certainly think CN and the WB have made up their minds (otherwise, this is the best fake out that I've ever seen) but I'd cut Timm some slack. He's usually pretty good at communicating with fans (as is Dwayne McDuffie), and they are in a tough position since pissing off TPTB won't help their future job prospects.
fatneck

I think we can all say the say the season has been completed for awhile.

I feel ya. And I guess Timm and Co needs to play it smart.
bursell
Ah, crap!!
samsnee
The fact that they say no dates have been scheduled tells me they'll never be aired. It's like when you put off something that should have been done last week. You eventually keep reasoning with yourself that you can keep putting it off, meaning it'll never get done. As far I can tell, there's no real benefit between airing them in the spring, and airing them now, even if it's once a week.
bursell
To me, it doesn't make sense to produce the episodes and not air them, even if it's at 4:00 am on a weekend. I think they'll eventually air, but I may have to rely on the TiFaux to watch them.
bossu

How very FUX-y of them.

I don't understand what CN is thinking here. This show was pulling in ratings and demos, right? Isn't that what they want? Or was it the wrong kind of demos? Y'know, the 18-34 kind. And those aren't very tween are they?

Teen Titans is going to be wrapping up soon. So, will mega-hyped IGPX, AFAIK. Toonami could be looking at two empty programming, around the end of January. What're they going to fill those holes in with? Reruns? More Naruto?
Clockstomper24
This is the old stall tactic networks use to force out the posibility of new episodes ever being made.

They're stretching things out so everyone who works on the show will be forced to find work other projects to survive, so then the network can say "Sorry, they've all movede on and don't want to do the show anymore."

The same thing happened to the Futurama crew. FOX aired a the episodes in short bursts over a year and a half without ordering any more. By the time all of the backlogged episodes aired, FOX said "production has shut down, and we're forced to cancel it."
lurk3000
That's a pretty shitty way to treat JLU. Fuck CN.
bursell
In the Monday update at Comicscontinuum they said it was the last season anyway, so I don't know why CN would have to do all these underhanded things to get rid of the show. It doesn't make any sense.
monsterzero
I too was massively disappointed about the indefinitely delay on new episodes. Considering the suck of The Batman, and a hit or miss last season of Teen Titans, JLU was the only superhero program to look forward to. Plus, there are so many damn plot threads that need closure. At this point, I sorta wish the show ended with Epilogue, since at least I wouldn't have the faint hope of someday seeing new episodes.
BStu
Counterintuitive as it may seem, this could be a good thing for the future of the show. No, I should preface my comments by pointing out that I, like I suspect most here, have accepted the reality that Justice League is in its final season and I see little reason to think that's changed. But I do see little reason to think that. We all know their scheduling has been haphazard in the past, usually moving things around so that when one seasons ends, they can start the next immediately. Its a move that I think defies logic, but its one they've done repeatedly nonetheless. This could be a stalling tactic so that they will have the next season ready by the time they've exhausted the current season of episodes. It would seem odd for them not to have announced what has seemed so obvious. Especially since they have announced that Teen Titans will be no more.

Again, I doubt it and am quite sure that the show is not being renewed, but you never know.
