Besides, how many of the SVs would have actually helped?

Poison Ivy ("They want to blow up my babies?"), Harley, Catwoman, and Lex Luther (what *was* Lex doing?) are the only ones who spring to mind for me.

But it would have been cool to see lower-powered heroes, even getting their butts kicked. Blue Beetle and Booster Gold, for instance. Or Green Arrow and Black Canary.
Eris Rising
Lex Luthor and R'as al Ghul are both would-be world conquerors. Therefore, neither of them would be especially happy at having a new boss in town. I'm sure that they were planning and plotting while the League was actually taking action.

campaigning, duh. Some has to be the leader of the human slaves when the Thanagarians take over, so he was adjusting a few slogans. ;)
BBG
I don't think anyone mentioned this one:

Three Thanagarians get beeping batarangs in the chest

THANAGARIAN TOUGHGUY:  Your weapons are pitiful!

BATS:  Wait for it...

It the end of the world as we know it. Krypto The Superdog gets his own series.
JHeaton
I said it before and I'll say it again: if this new Krypto series doesn't feature a guest appearance by the Space Canine Patrol Agency, I'm going to be very disappointed.

"Big dog! Big dog! Bow wow wow! We'll crush evil... now now now!"
roosterboy
Even better than the SCPA, would be an appearance by the Legion of Super-Pets! I just gotta see Streaky and Beppo on screen! (Comet and Proty can come too, I guess.)

Eris, Proty (and Proty II) was the "pet" of the Legion's Chameleon Boy.
Eris Rising
Streaky, Beppo, and Comet I'm familiar with...Proty? I'll turn in my geek badge if the answer is too obvious.
Avery
Proty was Chameleon Kid's little blob of a pet that could shapechange (just like Chameleon Kid!). Proty later died imitating one of the Legionnaires to resurrect Lightning Lad (because the lightning rods they were using had to kill one of them to work) (what? could I make this stuff up?).

Fortunately, Proty II came along later so the Legion of Super Pets wasn't without a Proty.

Then there was later stuff about how the entire proty race was going to be enslaved by the Dominators (Dominion? the dot heads), so they put their racial soul into another proty who looked like Kid Quantum. And it also later turned out that Lighting Lad wasn't really resurrected -- Proty's soul/mind just reanimated Garth's body.

Anyway. Not too obvious. You may as well keep your geek badge; there seems to be no lack of them around here...

Shayera's always been my favorite, and I hope she'll be returning, at least in some fashion, later. I really felt for her at the end, too, since she's (presumably) stranded on Earth now. She's a traitor to her homeworld now, but a lot of Earthlings aren't going to be too fond of her either!

One interesting thing I realized, thinking about the Bruce/Diana scene in the restaurant, is that they're probably considered "an item" in the tabloids! (Remember when they danced together in the Kasnia storyline?) It'd be fun to see them do something with that.

Nice to see Diana's "not-so-nice," vengeful side in this one, btw, not to mention her carrying much of the "powerhouse" load for the JLA, with Superman out of action or at reduced strength for a lot of it.
Schroeder
Has the DVD of this come out yet?
Because I still missed the final three episodes and desperately would like to see it.
Someone more Internet-savvy than I, is it showing again anytime soon?
Kaboom
Has the DVD of this come out yet?

I haven't seen Starcrossed in stores yet, but I know Amazon has it (they sent me an email).

Good news. Comics Continuum says that "JL Unlimited" will premiere on July 31st.
Details here.
Kaboom
Whoo hoo! :-)

Hey, Schroeder: the link that lurk3000 posted indicates that Starcrossed will air again on Saturday, July 24 at 7:30pm EST...

Good news. Comics Continuum says that "JL Unlimited" will premiere on July 31st.

Wow, they pushed the premiere up a week? What could that mean besides network confidence(!) Could it possibly mean more new episodes than anticipated?
redshirtsrules
I doubt it means more episodes...but now I know what they mean when they say, Christmas in July! Here's hoping JL S3 lives up season2. Them some big shoes to filled.

Comics continuum, once again, has some more news on JLU. Beware there are plot spoilers for the first five episodes here.
Schroeder
Awesome, just awsome.
Kaboom
I am loving the teasers that CN have been showing for JLU. I don't recognize half of the newest additions to the JL but hey, it looks awesome.

Don't forget: the premiere is on July 31st at 8:00pm EST. :-)
mrow
Spoiler for the upcoming episodes, from the comics continuum link I can't wait to see Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Green Lantern as kids. That is going to be great. I wonder if they'll get kids versions of their costumes or if they are going to be undercover and dressed normal.
blackwing
In that link that lurk3000 posted, there's a small picture accompanying the text. The text mentions the new additions. The picture also shows Aquaman, Black Canary and Dr. Fate but the text doesn't mention them. Do these guys also join?

I thought it was hilarious how the Superfriends of the late 70s/early 80s added all these ancillary characters just to be politically correct. You got one of each race! Black Vulcan! Samurai! El Dorado! Apache Chief! Seems like the universe has once again gone back to being staffed by exclusively white heroes.
Nflux Forever
Who saw Starcrossed tonight? It kicked so much ass. The action, Batman raining the Watchtower down. Batman outting everyone's identities leading to a maskless(and Redheaded:D) Flash. Then Batman looking like he was going kill Flash after he blew a hole in the side of his house. And the ending was awesome. Showed shades of the ending of the Tower of Babel arc from the JLA comic, even though the situation and character involved wasn't the same. Very satifying and a great lead-in to JLU.
Lantern7
My big fear about JLU is that the cast is way too big. I look at the screen, and I'm spotting folks from the JSA. Seriously, it's like watching a few Super-Friends team up with El Dorado or Rima. I hope that I'm wrong.

Would it be okay to discuss heroes that are in the commericals? So many to discuss. And it would be interesting to see how "For The Man Who Has Everything" translates to the tube...especially since most of Alan Moore's stuff doesn't come off well.

ETA: Ack...don't remind me about CCI. Wish I could have gone, but I don't have the dough this year. All I remember from last year in terms of toons was seeing "Mystery of the Batwoman." That, and being unable to attend the "Teen Titans" panel, since they were blaring the theme song at full blast. But yeah...next week, I'm prepared to go balls to the wall in terms of character spotting. And is that the new-age Wonder Woman in the commercials?
lurk3000
Lantern7 I hear "For The Man Who Has Everything" comes off pretty good. I heard they showed some of it at the SanDiego Comic Con and everybody enjoyed it.

Your fear, is my fear as well, Lantern 7. I just don't feel JL needed all these people. Why not add just one or two members instead? Why so many. Do the average watcher of Justice League gonna care for the other heroes outside of the Original 7?
Is CN and the writers trying to attracted new viewers? Because I don't see how, when the popular and well-known characters couldn't do it.

I thought the Original 7 was getting thre job done and the struggles they reached to achieve their goal was realistic, in a sense.

BTW, I didn't get the feeling that everybody characters was fully developed. There are so many places for them to go with the Original 7 in terms of development. If aint broke.
lurk3000
redshirtsrules - Here's an article from the San Diego Comic Con that may answer a few of your questions.
LTG
Would it be okay to discuss heroes that are in the commericals?

Commercials and promos are fair game for discussion. They are not spoilers, and should not be tagged. (Obviously, if you know things about the way the producers are treating the characters that are spoilers, tag those comments).
redshirtsrules
I really appreciate the link lurk3000, but I already seen it. It still doesn't quell my personal fears.

I know that CN wanted the format change but I believe it was Timm and Co decision to add all these heroes. And the said events after Starcrossed has changed the JL i.e. the invasion, HG betrayal and leaving, etc. All those I do get but I still think 1 or 2 extra members on the team would've been enough. If 7 couldn't get enough development, I don't see how 30 or more will be easier.

It me really, but I just don't care for all these "new" heroes. I didn't care for all the new mutants on the last X-Men series and I don't care for it now on S3 JL or JLU.

But believe me I will entered the new season with an open mind and who knows, maybe I'll be surprised and very happy with the change.

Just my 2 cents.

I think the new members are a nod to the fans of the comics. Keep in mind that Warner Bros, and DC Comics work closely together on the production of the animated series. DC has a lot of say into what goes into the series.

I for one can't wait to see how they do some of the other heroes. In the preview, I saw the Question, The Atom, Mr. Terrific...Mr. Terrific! Awesome! I also saw Metamorpho who was introduced in an earlier episode. I wonder if the Blue Beetle will show up. And I wonder how they would handle him. Would they make him "serious", or will they make him a total goofball like Keith Giffen wrote him.
redshirtsrules
I suspect there won't be much development with the half-hour format and not to mention all the new heroes showing up.

Far as a nod to the fans of these other heroes, I think their aren't too many fans for them since their comics aren't popular anymore? I think DC and WB are going for the younger demos and usually forgetting continunity and making shows action-packed is a reflection of that.

Many people aren't gonna know who The Question, The Atom, Mr. Terrific, and etc are and probably won't care, imo. The original 7 were chosen because they're popular and the Big 3 even more popular.

I do agree with you that it'll be interesting seeing what the writers bring to JLU. Can't wait.
Zerowing

Actually, Mr. Terrific currently stars in 'Justice Society' which is one of DC's best selling (and best written IMO) books. And Blue Beetle starred with many of the second-fiddle JLA characters in the 'Formally Known as the Justice League' mini-series. And that series actually outsold the main Justice League book with the "Big 7".

As for people not caring about the new characters, as long as the stories are well written, I don't believe that will matter.
Dark Child
I'm not sure how good it will with the half hour format, with all of the new heroes joining how can they introduce them, find a villian, battle, find a way to stop him/her, and create a season long story arc in less than a half hour?
Harrison Fjord
For those of you who live west of the Mississippi, Jack in the Box is doing a JL kids meal in two waves. I think right now through 8/15 is the JL and then from 8/16 to the end is the Injustice Gang.

I got Hawkgirl today. That was after specifically requesting Batman, the asshats. But whatever. I'll keep going back and next time I'll dine in and make them give me Batman.
mr.simpatico
I honestly believe that Timm&Co. are putting every DC character they can think of because they know this is their last shot to get their favorite characters animated. IIRC they had a tough time getting Justice League renewed (and thus JLU was born) and Cartoon Network supposedly has that rule about only ordering only a certain number of episodes before cancelling a series (or is that only Disney who do that?). With the non-Timm Batman and Teen Titans shows just starting/hitting their stride WB may start calling it a day on the DCU that has developed since Batman:TAS.

It's a shame because I'd love to see a JSA spin-off (set in the 1940s) or a Power of Shazam show (Captain Marvel will appear in season 3 or 4 according to news from SDCC), both ideas I think would work well in animation especially in the Justice League style.
VWBug82
Arg, there isn't a JitB here. I have the previous TAS toys from there & they are pretty neat. I'd try eBay but my frelling email isn't working right. I blame Darkseid.
devopet
The only thing I have to say is that the 80s power chords have really got to go. Otherwise I am going to stick around to see how this works.
Vermicious Knid
I hate the new theme. HATE. But I had fun playing 'Spot the Hero' in the crowd scenes.

Wouldn't everybody in the path of that thing be suffering from radiation poisoning? And are they going with the version of Supergirl who was the shapeshifter that decided to stay with Clark's parents and pattern herself on him?
Warden
I hate the new theme. HATE.

Hate is such a strong word but I'll use it too. HATE the theme.

So many different heroes and so little airtime. Since GL has a new look similar to his alternate last season, I wonder if he will be crossing some line later on that will leave some of the "rookies" questioning his abilities to lead them.
Zerowing
Okay, saw the first Unlimited....likes and dislikes....

Dislike: I'm not digging the new theme. Sounds too generic. I actually liked the "hip-hop" theme they used in the advertisements better.

Like: I noticed that the animation looks a little slicker. The character design is more detailed and the animation is more fluid.

Dislike: Too much guitar riffing in the episodic music. It's like they are trying to make the show more "hip". I liked the orchestrated music better.

Like: I liked the voices for Green Arrow and Supergirl. Captain Atom's voice was okay, but I sorta imagined him sounding older. But the personalities of the characters were dead-on. (Especially Green Arrow's and Captain Atom's)

Dislike: While I thought the voice actors did a nice job overall with each characterization, the fact that we're only going to get to see these characters in brief snippets each episode, it's going to be difficult to get any deep character interaction. I guess this was done to make the show more palatable for international syndication.

Like: The story as it was moved very smoothly. Green Arrow's line to Captain Atom about him representing what he protested against when he was in college was funny. And Supergirl's line about Captain Atom having a stick up his ass was funny too. Although Supergirl is a little too mouthy and hotheaded in my opinion. (Which means she and Ollie (Green Arrow) should get along just fine. HaHa!) Nice drama and good action.

The scene near the climax when Captain Atom blew up was cool. Although in the comics, if Captain Atom's containment suit was damaged, he would explode, but he would get shifted into the future a few weeks. (Because his quantum energies were connected to the timestream) I guess his powers don't work the same way in the cartoon.

Like: The ending where Oliver spotted Black Canary was funny. Can't wait to see her in action.

Overall, I'll give the first episode a A-. I might have given it a straight A if not for the guitar crap and restricting character development to single episodes.
Zerowing
And are they going with the version of Supergirl who was the shapeshifter that decided to stay with Clark's parents and pattern herself on him?

I think this is the same Supergirl that was introduced in Superman: The Animated Series. Kara comes from the Krypton moon of Argos. I don't think this Kara is actually Kal-El's cousin, even though she's referred to as a cousin. I guess because she's a Kryptonian too.

So many different heroes and so little airtime. Since GL has a new look similar to his alternate last season, I wonder if he will be crossing some line later on that will leave some of the "rookies" questioning his abilities to lead them.

Actually, I don't like the "Benjamin Sisko" look they gave John. I liked his old look better. Not every black man goes with the bald look.
redshirtsrules
Man this episode pretty much bite! I dunno if I can get used to no character development and just mindless action scenes. I was bored stiff. Plus, All these "heroes" has made the show feel so crowed and less intimate.

I pretty much hated every thing except GL new look. I really found my self not caring who green arrow, supergirl, and atom guy was. I found it annoying how GL was taken out of the picture. Oh, brother.

I'll give it a couple more episodes but if don't get better I'm checking out. The episode for me would get a C- and I'm being generous.
mrow
I figure that most of the new heroes are just going to be background characters, with a few like Green Arrow and Supergirl getting more screen time. So characters might get more development then we think they will.
Lantern7
Fellas? Step away from the electtic guitars. Put down the power chords, and nobody gets hurt.

Seriously...why? First of all, I know Supergirl is established within the Bats/Supes/JL continunity, but her presence screams "merchandising," especially with a new Supergirl introducted in Superman/Batman. Second...who needs Captain Atom? Are there people out there who get all hot & bothered over Charlton? Okay, I'll give you Question (coolness) and Blue Beetle (dorkiness), but Cap? Whatever.

Green Arrow...nice use of the arrows. I was expecting a more grizzled voice...I keep hearing it anytime I read his comic. Being the team's "conscience" puts into his comic history. And yeah...he's stayin' for Black Canary. That's so right, yet so icky. And who takes a decontamination shower with the mask off?

New look GL...anybody else think "Justice Lord"? And I think he hates Supergirl cuz she's an alien...which he lusts after...but way too young for him. Oh, and her adopted cousin would grind him into paste before he even uses the ring. Defininate hassle.

Spot-the-hero: damn, the whole comics JSA is there. Vibe? VIBE??!?? Dear Lord, why not bring back El Dorado?

Conclusion: I hate saying this, since it makes me sound like a love-struck loser (which I'm not), but I'd trade in most of the new cast for Hawkgirl. What the world needs now is a war scream followed by a mace attack.
kennowen
I enjoyed the first episode of 'Green Arrow: the Animated Series'! Nice to see that the Justice League conserves on space in the satellite by having unisex lockerrooms as well!
Supergirl was a nice guest star, as were Green Lantern and Captain Atom. But we didn't see enough of Green Arrow's home base, the Arrow Car, the Arrow Plane, and Speedy! Maybe next week...
Zerowing
Spot-the-hero: damn, the whole comics JSA is there. Vibe? VIBE??!?? Dear Lord, why not bring back El Dorado?

Vibe was there?? Vibe??! I must have missed him. You sure it was him? Dear lord, I hope not.
GeorgeAntonio
All i have to say it's:

I DON'T LIKE GL'S NEW LOOK AND HATE THE NEW INTRO!!

That's all folks.
thesporq
I didn't mind the power chords so much, but what I loved was the JSA sightings.

Besides the ones mentioned above, there was Wildcat and Obsidian, which is a bit of a mistake. He did star out out as a hero, but went insane and came close to world domination on several occasions.

All I need is a Jay Garrick sighting, and I'll love this show forever.
Skyblade
Not only was Vibe there, but I think I spotted Vixen. Those two suck enough on their own. But the suck even more because they once followed orders from Aquaman.

I'm sorry, but I really can't picture Dr. Fate and the Question as members. Where's fate going to keep his Mystic belongings, the airlock? It's like radio DJ working out of Zoo. Doesn't make sense? Neither does Fate in an orbital satellite. It's like Ghost Rider joining the Champions. The Spectre might as well be on the team.

By the way, Superman struck me as a supreme ass. It's nice to know if I get hit by some chunk of meteor and gain powers, I'm immediately under Big Blue's jurisdiction. Wait to go, Senator SuperKelly.
Schroeder
I just watched Starcrossed.
Is Hawkgirl never coming back? This is terrible! Why did Maria Callas leave? I'm so sad.
And I had no idea that the new season was going to launch tonight. I totally missed it. Does anyone have a re-air date? I don't get the new TV guide until the morning paper.
