Sorry, MereyGB, I only meant to recommend the Justice League America trade paperback written by Keith Giffen. I don't know what all is going on with comics these days as it's been years since I followed them.

Fourth and fifth string characters are cool to spot in the background, but I don't really care when they become the focus of an episode.
I appreciate that the Wonder Woman/Hawkgirl episode focused on major characters: WW and Hawkgirl, of course, but also Flash in the cafeteria scene, and even the magic users who were freaking out (Etrigan, Dr. Fate, Zatanna) had some history on the show. I do agree that the size of the League has gotten unwieldy; I think it would have been better to pick a smaller number of new JL members and flesh them out more.
Just got Saturday's ep.... did anyone else catch that Faust listed Pierre Menard's Don Quixote as one of the all time evil texts? Talk about obscure references - hilarious!
If anyone was wondering, this is a non-existent book that was "created" by Jorge Luis Borges (you can see more details
here, and yes I had to look it up myself).

Exactly. And from a literary analysis perspective, it's wonderfully Byzantine - you're analyzing a work of fiction, which in itself is a literary analysis of a (fake) work of fiction, which in itself is a retelling/social commentary upon a (real) work of fiction. I'm guessing that was the point of the reference, unless I'm missing something. Methinks one of the writers is exorcising his college lit demons.

Aside from the parallelism in the third act and having Tommy Monaghan whacked off-screen? Awesome work from Gail Simone. Huntress's inclusion in the Morrison-era JLA was always a question mark, given her extreme methods. Yeah...the animated apple doesn't fall far from the cannon tree. And didn't she hook up with Question?
It's bugging me...does Albino Kingpin have another name? Could've sworn I've seen him before.

Gail did an awsome job. As a reader of Birds of Prey and Villains United. Gail just gets the Huntress, Black Canary, Green Arrow and the Question. Not to mention the relationships and so forth. I also give a big round of applause to Amy Aucker from doing a remarkable job as the voice of the Huntress.

He looks like Tobias Whale from Black Lightning, but he's named Mandragora (the guy who killed her family in the comics), except in the books he's a slender old man.
Oh yeah, and Amy Acker knocked it out of the park. And Gail rocks as always.
Tommy Monaghan whacked off-screen?
As someone who actually read Hitman, that part kind of saddened me, but in a way I think it's kind of fitting.

Yeah, the "your daddy whacked my daddy, so now I get to whack yours!" thing was too much, but I did enjoy the episode, espcially Canary and Huntress beating the crap out of each other. I'm so glad this how avoids the PC route.
Did anyone else sense a power trip from MM when he kicked Huntress out of the league?

Perhaps I'm a sad excuse for a human being, but I laughed my keester off during that episode. That was some sharp, sharp writing.
And I didn't realize Amy Acker was doing Huntress - thank you, God, for good voice casting and direction. Four talented Joss-School alumni voice cast in JLU (Gina Torres as Vixen, Nathan Fillion as Vigilante), five if you count Adam Baldwin as Col. Flagg - when are they going to pick up Alan Tudyk and Alexis Denisof?

Yes, Gail Simone did a fantastic job.
The best part was the dialogue between the four protagonists, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Question, and the Huntress. The hilarious banter between Ollie and Canary was funny, (especially the chase scene) the Huntress' anger really showed through, and the Question is smooth and mysterious as always. (By the way, the Question had a baddass car)

Actually, I just thought up a rather important plot hole: If J'onn could teleport Canary & Green Arrow any time they requested, why didn't they get him to do that to Huntress & Question?
Leiodaahs
Jun 5, 2005 @ 1:42 am
Canary and GA were trying to follow the others to Mandragora's location. If they had teleported him and Huntress, they may never have found the albino kingpin before he disappeared.
In addition, the teleportation requires the earpiece communicator to track the teleportee. The Question had that removed by the Huntress at a certain point.

Double Date again illustrates that the strongest material in the universe is not Nth-metal, adamantium, nor any other metallic substance. It's whatever they use to make pants.
I still think this episode would have been stronger if Batman had been the one to kick Huntress out instead of J'onn. Given their similar origin it would have been more interesting, and in the comics Batman actually was the one who invited (and booted) Huntress from the JLA.

Except then the rest of the episode wouldn't work, because Batman would have then put nine transmitters on Huntress, in addition to dedicating a spy sattelite to her, to make sure she didn't go off on the goose chase she did.

Basically, in the comics PowerGirl is an alternate universe version of Supergirl (still a hero though).
Nicked from TVtome: In the comics, Power Girl (Kara, or Karen Starr) was originally the Earth-2 version of Supergirl, and the cousin of the Earth-2 Superman. While the character Tea clearly isn't supposed to be her, she bears a marked physical similarity - shorter blonde hair, a more...mature physique (a running gag in the current JSA series), gold bracelet-belt, and a circular chest-cutout in her all-white neck-covering costume. Also, the red pseudo-cape is PG costume characteristic.

Gail Simone should write more episodes or at least the now-wished for spinoff series. Amy Acker was great as Huntress. She didn't sound like "Fred" from Angel at all. I have to say I really like the "G.I. Joe" format of focusing on a different mix of characters each episode.

Wow, Wonder Woman and Hawgirl one week, and Black Canary and Huntress the next. Throw in Barda, Supergirl, Zatanna, and Vixen and just make this an all-girl show!
Seriously though, Gail Simone should be hired ASAP to write more shows. I wanted to see even MORE interaction between Canary and Huntress, but that's a small quibble. Great episode.

Has Green Lantern done anything remotely relevant this season?
There was Kid's Stuff where GL, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman were turned into kids and had to defeat some evil magician's son. And he was in the Once and Future Thing where he, Batman, and Wonder Woman went back in time to defeat a time traveler. They traveled to the future in Part II but I haven't seen that one.
ETA: He was also in the episode where Shayera came back and played the supportive-ex-who-still-has-feelings-for-you-but-isn't-with-you-cause-it-just-wouldn't-work-out.
Does anyone know where I can get screen caps of last weeks Wonder Woman and Shayera ep? Also, I've noticed that my local book store has gone from no manga to two bookcases full. If the manga guys can get their comics in bookstores how come DC and Marvel can't get a couple of shelves?

Managed to "acquire" the episodes up to and including
"Flashpoint."To be honest, I wasn't a big fan of "Double Date." Loved Huntress and Question (rowrr), but my goodness, it felt like such a retread. That wouldn't be so bad if JLU didn't happen in the same universe as BtAS, but unfortunately I couldn't help but feel that I've seen it all before. "Mask of the Phantasm" was a lot more satisfying when it came to the "my parents were murdered so now I'll make the people who did it pay" plot. I mean, Huntress' past was so reminiscent of Batman's that I'm surprised she didn't just call herself Batwoman. Of course, I'm not familiar with her comic origins, so I'm sure her past must be more complicated than that... right?
Spoilerizing my comments on the other episodes:
Okay, "Clash" was certainly fun, but when on earth did Superman become such a jerk? Was it just gradual over the course of Justice League, because I really can't stand him anymore. For that matter, pretty much every one of the founding members has become insufferable with the exception of Flash. I'm loving the Cadmus conspiracy plot, but I would really love it if I could actually like the original characters for a change.
Liked "Hunter's Moon" a bit more than the previous two, if only because of the interaction between Shayera and Vixen. I recognized Gina and Nathan immediately, and while I generally hated their roles in the Buffyverse, I love them in JLU.
Question about "Question Authority"-- Is Question's real face really like that, or was it just bruised due to the torturing? Either way, The Question is hot. Still, does everyone who gets unmasked have to be a redhead?
"Flashpoint" was great, though I really was afraid Flash would die in it. Oh yeah, and Superman's still an ass. Speaking of people I hate, why on earth are people on earth so friggin stupid? The Justice League has saved them a countless number of times, and yet they still don't trust them? I mean, why would Hamilton be more inclined to place his trust in criminals and super-villains who have never done anything good than in super heroes who may have erred in the past but have at least done some sort of penance?
Anyway, any speculation on exactly what is up with Luthor? All of a sudden his cancer is gone and he has super strength, so methinks something is amiss. Could the real Luthor be dead and this one be just a clone? Is there some deeper evil behind Cadmus? Or is Mr. Mxyzptlk just having his fun with Superman once again?
I want more words of wisdom from Granma Flash.
Word to that. Someone please just make a Flash spin-off. In addition to having a show centered on the best character from JLU, it would also keep Michael Rosenbaum away from the inanity that is "Smallville."

I'm so glad that I wasn't the only one crushing on Question especially after we really saw his face. He was hott!111! lol.
I didn't really like Hunter's Moon. It just felt out of place with the Camdus, and even the Captain Marvel storyline.
The Captain Marvel episode was awesome. I liked seeing the transformation and him calling the original seven out. I'm with you, when did Supes become such an ass?
Also Flashpoint was awesome. One of the strongest of the new episodes that I've acquired. I loved seeing Flash and Arrow. Also, I'm still worried about Captain Atom. Did they brainwash him or what the hell is going on with him?

She was Batgirl in the comics, Bruce 'fired' her for being too violent.
Just to clarify, she didn't start out as Batgirl. She started out as The Huntress. After the Cataclysm destroyed Gotham City and it was declared No Man's Land, Batman gave Huntress the opportunity to prove herself to him by allowing her to take up the Batgirl identity. She failed to protect the area of the city Batman had given to her to guard, letting it fall into Two-Face's hands, and due to this and her propensity for violence, he gave the Batgirl identity to the daughter of his former trainer, the assassin Cain. At this point, she went back to using the Huntress identity.
