Look at Fox's Avengers series...no Iron Man, no Thor, no Captain America, no hope.
That show had no hope primarily because it sucked. Besides, Hank Pym (in any costume) is cooler than Iron Man will ever be.
Of course, I knew what you meant. I agree.
ETA good point,
JHeaton. I was trying to think of an example, but I couldn't.

Well, you know, Static wasn't exactly the best known character in the industry, and yet Static Shock is going into its fourth season. I think any character or group of characters can be made to work, given the right script.

My biggest fear in a LSH animated show is that they'd have it emulate the ghastly (to my grown-up, never-quite-got-anime eyes) new Teen Titans show.

Hello, people. As one who is fairly new to the DC Universe (i'm Marvel all the way- Fantastic Four forever!!) can anyone give me a bit of a backstory on Luthor and Savage? On the animated show, they are definetely two of the coolest villians but I know so little about them. Are they in the comics too? And what's up with Lex and Lois? *shrugs* Please help the rookie!
rayray
Jan 8, 2004 @ 9:47 am
Okay Seyi, I'll give it a shot.
Lex Luthor is known primarily as Superman's greatest foe. He was
a billionaire who staged a terrorist act to draw out Superman. Supes
then arrested him, which caused Lex to dedicated his life to destroying
the Man of Steel. Recently, Lex became President of the US.
As for the Lex & Lois relationship, they actually dated in the comics.
Lois then found out that he is a villian. I think there is still some attraction
to each other.
Vandal Savage was a Cro-Magnon caveman who gained heightened intellegence and immortality when a metor crashed near his home. I think
he is primarily known as a JLA & JSA villian.
Apologies if any of this is incorrect.

According to
this, Dakota Fanning is providing the voice of an unspecified character next season in an episode focusing on Wonder Woman. I don't know if it will be Wonder Girl, because I'm pretty sure I read that
she'd be on the next season of Teen Titans, and they probably wouldn't want to include the two characters in seperate continuities. I could be mistaken about this though, of course. My first guess was that she would play Devastation, even though she's not a very well-known character. But I think Ares created her, and
it's been confirmed that he'll be appearing this season as well, and I'm guessing that the episode he appears in and the one with Dakota (which was also described as a Wonder Woman spotlight) will be the same one. Speculation is fun. :0)

I wondered how much of this is going to see the light. Like someone said last year we had news abour characters appearing and then nada! Before you say a "certain celebrity" has signed on, I suggest be caution of such news. Until we get an official word from the Timm or some of the writers themselves, most is still speculation.
I think too much news can be a bad thing. Why are all this stuff coming out so fast?

Actually, I'm thinking that Comics Continuum learned about all the casting information at one time, but are just releasing news about one character/actor a day as individual items, so they can stretch it out for as long as possible and fill their daily story quota.

Jan 10, 2004 @ 11:22 am
Yep, Streaky the Super-Cat, which got its powers from X-Kryptonite; Beppo the Super-Monkey (an experimental animal launched by Jor-El before Krypto); Comet the Super-Horse (actually a centaur under a curse--*long* story) and Proty the Protean (shapeshifter alien.) They, along with Krypto the Super-Dog, formed the Legion of Super-Pets.

Ok, just saw a repeat of that episode where Amazo makes his first appearance and I noticed something odd. Did anyone else notice when the cops were fighting Amazo, one cop actually jumps from the ground onto Amazo's back? That's a ten-foot jump! Talk about latent superpowers.

Hey Vermicious, them's fightin' words! The Super-Pets rock!
I keep hoping DC Direct will bring out figures of Beppo, Comet and Proty to go along with the Krypto and Streaky that came with the Superboy and Supergirl two-pack. That would almost make up for the crappy Mon-El and Brainy figures.
Topic? I finally saw part 1 of "Hearts and Minds" Saturday night. I never much cared for Despero but that was a pretty good ep. And any episode with Kilowog is cool in my book. I just wish the next time they show the GL Corps they include my favorite GLs: Flodo Span and Mogo!

Love the show, love the forum. Although most of the time when I'm watching, I'm sitting there thinking, "How in the world do Batman, Superman, and the Green Lantern stay standing up?" Their torsos are so huge compared to their legs and their teensy weensy heads. Forgive me superheroes for not believing in your powerful sense of equilibrium.

A friend of mine coined a term I feel is apt: "animated body". As in, "I want an animated body the next time I'm in a car accident. Then I can get out of my vehicle, shake my head a couple times, and never have to spend months dealing with whiplash!" (sigh)
Having an animated body
would be very convenient at times...

Hey, when did CN start showing
JL every night at 10:00? So far I've only caught the few episodes I've already seen, but I think I now have the chance to catch up on the entire series.
Lex Luthor is known primarily as Superman's greatest foe. He was a billionaire who staged a terrorist act to draw out Superman. Supes then arrested him, which caused Lex to dedicate his life to destroying the Man of Steel.
I'm sure that's correct in current continuity, but the original DC continuity was much more amusing. In it, Lex was in high school with Clark back in Smallville (only for a short while). There was some kind of chemical fire, and while Superboy was putting it out, he did something that caused Lex to lose all his hair. It was at that moment that Lex began planning his long vendetta against the man of steel.

JL comes on at 10 Eastern/ 9 Central and lasts for an hour. Tonight they showed the Amazo episode(s). I always find the J'onn subplot odd, I know they had to get rid of him for most of the episode, but his little, 'What am I fighting for, people are so selfish', trip was just odd.
Bishop2
Jan 23, 2004 @ 2:05 am
The weirdest thing about J'onn's plot for me was that he's never "fixed." He says that once he opens that door, he may never be able to close it again. Sure enough, that's what happens. He hears everyone's thoughts constantly now, and he's never fixed. So I guess that's still true of him? Harsh.

Have you seen the casting rumors?
From DarkHorizons:
A few days back an anonymous source sent an e-mail to me, AICN and Coming Soon saying they have big news in regards to "Superman" casting and would offer it to the first one who called. A few hours later when no-one had taken the bait, they sent along word that Beyonce Knowles has been cast as Lois Lane and Johnny Depp as Lex Luthor - personally I think its bull (if not whoever is making casting choices over there needs a reality check) but hey, its already out over the Net so may as well get the facts straight by indicating how it emerged.
(Update @ 11:55pm - Harry's got a second, regular and reliable contact who confirmed the scoop so sadly there's likely some truth to it after all. - )
Aaaah!
Also, no episode this Saturday because of the Cyborg 009 marathon.

I love Batman. He is the only one who doesn't put up with Superman's crap or anyone else's. He doesn't even put up with his own crap, when he went to that alternate reality with the Justice Lords he wouldn't even put up with his other self's bull. Plus he's super smart, rich, and pretty good looking.
While I'm on the topic of JL characters that I love, Hawkgirl rules all!!!!!!!!!! She's got an electric mace, a kick ass personality, she's a warrior, and she's hillarious. If you've seen the Christmas episode you know what I'm talking about, she gets into a super snowball fight with Green Lantern then she takes him to an alien danse club and starts a huge fight. You go girl!!!

And I finally will end my streak of always showing up at DC movies in the theater, because this? Would be crap. Nothing but crap!
I saw the toys the other day in the store, and they have GL, Flash, Batman, Martian Manhunter and Batman figures. THe bad part? Seems that toy companies, instead of putting out the entire line of Super Heros, has decided to release Batman and Superman and GL and Flash and MM as themselves, and then as themselves with Super Battle Armor! And Hand-Held FIghting Cannons! And crap like that! With names like Super Battle Ready Batman!
I mean, the nerve!
I still have nearly the entire line of the Super Powers line by Kenner from 1984-86, where they all came with either their own weapon (Penguins' umbrella, Hawkman's mace) or they didn't come with anything at all! All you did was squeeze their legs, and the fought, or swam, or ran or flapped their big hawk-like wings, and yet, we've got toys today like Super Battle Read Batman!
Ugh.
