Mention of "Marauders" (if that was the title) in another thread led me to wonder: There's a real solid subset of Trek fans who are Klingon buffs. I imagine this subset only arose after TNG began, which led me to wonder: Klingons in ENT should be a real nasty bunch- the duplicitous, backstabbing, rather unhonorable type we saw in TOS. (Even if their foreheads were different, but see STIII or V.) To put it plainly, real enemies, if only in a cold war, with the UFP. And I imagine it was the more nuanced- and more peaceful, once treaties had been signed- Klingons we saw in the TNG era that allowed their fandom to emerge. Can it be the treatment of Klingons in ENT- the claims of honor, the renegade (if only officially) status of the ones in Marauders, and so on- is there to placate the fans? Or is it the patching up of canon, so to speak, because things weren't handled so well on TOS?
Oddly, I find the latter more acceptable. Nor is that the only time it's been done- let's admit it, TOS wasn't into long-range planning and thus needs some patching, here and elsewhere.

Would original series Klingons be considered "Televisionwithoutputty"? Just askin'.

I also suspect it's possible that we only see the "real" Klingon culture when there isn't a cold war on. In other words, once there's peace, you'll know what Klingons are really like. Before there are open hostilities, you'll also know what Klingons are really like. But during a cold war, Klingons are just the enemy, and you're not going to get to know what they're really like.
But yes, spackling over some of TOS's faults is the real reason for a lot of things.

Yep, this is definitely me. But it really came into play during DS9 more than TNG.
Anyway, I wonder if the changes are less hole-patching than simply making shit up as they go along. There are no JMSes involved that are carefully constructing a massive arc. I was watching Search for Spock this weekend and wondered about timelines for Klingons. Because Rev. Jim, I mean Kruge mentions Honor. Is that the first time a Klingon brings it up? Had it been written as an integral part of their character before that?

I can imagine why they don't like to talk about it.
Seriously. The wholesale slaughter of colonies ranks up there with the Great Tribble Hunt.
