Ah well. Season Five was losing my interest anyway. Was there ever a more boring MP character than Samantha? And I can't believe no one ever told David Charvet to get some sort of vocal training - his breathy, whiny, adolescent voice just grates.
I think I must have been losing interest in the show around this time in the original run also, and probably didn't catch every week. I had totally forgotten Donna Mills playing Jane's bio-mom.

Yeah, E! has once again dropped MP from their schedule. They could've at least shown all of Season Five before dropping it, but we all know how sucky E! can be.
According to the Zap2It t.v. listings, Melrose Place is back on E! starting January 12th at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., but episode information is not yet available. Hopefully they will pick up again with the next episode.

I saw that just yesterday on Excite.com's TV listings as was very perplexed. I mean, they take it away from the 9am spot, then bring it back, then take away, then take the whole show off again for a week, and then they are bringing it back like they did in June on E!.
Me not understand the ways of the crazy programmers of E! Entertainment.

That's the only reason I watched it again on Style; I hadn't seen it in about 6 1/2 years, and I wanted to see Alison, Jake, Kimberly, Sydney, and Matt all leave again.
It seemed to me that Jake and Alison were having their own show -- they hardly ever interacted with anyone but each other! Just Billy, Samantha, and Matt sometimes, but that was rare too.

I fast-forward through every single Jake/Allison scene now, and it really does help that they never intereact with anyone. Actually, that's why I find s5 so damn boring. Every character seems only able to interact with a select few.
Sydney is only in scenes with Sam, Kyle, Taylor, and Jane.
Michael is only in scenes with Meg, Kimberly, Peter, and Amanda.
And so on and so forth. The fun part of the series used to be that they all lived in the same apartment building and had to keep running into each other. I don't blame characters leaving on it being boring, I blame the lame plots I'm expected to be invested in. And it's reeaaalllly obvious that Samantha is supposed to be replacing Jo. I didn't even like Jo all that much, but damn, at least she wasn't boring.

I agree. That was the whole thesis of the show -- young people in their mid 20s, early 30s living in an apartment complex and let's see them bed each other. I don't blame them for leaving either; I'd leave too after it became old hat.
Heather couldn't leave because she was thought to be the "star", but look how well that paid off -- half the cast leaves in 1997, and the show doesn't have a leg to stand on.
I think most of the
Melrose Place audience went to
Ally McBeal after awhile; I don't think it was just a coincidence that they put a new show that Courtney was on after her old show. They probably figured it would help the new show, but they were probably shocked at how well it would, and it made a major star out of Calista Flockhart, someone who had once tried out for the role of Alison Parker ironically enough.

How far ahead of E! is the Style nextwork? Oddly enough, the day E! stopped showing Melrose Place was the same day my cable company added Style to their lineup. I'm just wondering how much I missed.

Not that far, I mean maybe about 10 or 20 episodes ahead of E!. I wish Style was part of basic cable here, for me you have to have digital cable to have it, which I have, but I'd still want it with the basic stuff.

20 episodes would be almost an entire season, ten episodes nearly half. Given how quickly Melrose moved some seasons in terms of plot development, that could be quite a lot missed.

So now Melrose Place is back off the E! schedule (according to Zap2It). If you were watching on E! & have had to switch to Style (like I have) you can catch up on the 36 episodes you missed
here. The last episode on E! (12/30) was 5.14 (The Accidental Doctor). The next episode to air on Style (12/31) was 6.17 (Coop de Grace).

Sharon, Melrose will actually return to E! on 1/12 and will air at 9am and 11am E.S.T. again, this according to Excite.com's TV listings.
ETA: I was wrong, apparently E! has changed their minds again, and are not bringing it back at all, so Style is the only option now for reruns. I hate E!.

E! is seriously not going to show any more episodes of Melrose Place? I looked on TV Guide online, and that seems to be the case. Has anyone heard differently? I'm so completely disappointed! Leave it to E! to cancel it in the middle of its run -- yet another example of how this channel has gone way downhill. :(

At 11am ET, Saturday Night Live will air there (in addition to airing at 5pm ET and 12am ET).
They showed M&S and CP in their morning block before June 2003, before they brought MP back. It looks like they are getting rid of their Style Network Preview altogether by 1/12.

Well crap. Now it looks like Style is taking MP off after this weekend. It doesn't show up on the TV Guide schedule after Sunday. So nobody is showing it now? Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see it listed at all.
I mean sure, season six is a snooozefest; Sam is such an idiot and this Christine-Kyle-"trumpet of war" business is working my last nerve. But I wanted to see the whole run. I never really watched after the first couple of eps of season 7 and I heard it got kinda better after they trimmed the cast. Ah well. This show really was never the same after season 3, was it?

Dammit! This makes me so irate. They should
only show seasons 1-5, and maybe the Series Finale after S5 ends each time. S6 & S7 sucked, so what do they expect? Does E!/Style. really expect that the ratings are going to be the same for them when they were crappy the first time on FOX?
Maybe FX will pick the show up so they can pair it with it's sister show 90210.
The least E! Entertainment could do is tell people
why they are taking it off their two channels. But that is more than I would expect from E!.
Edited again because I just went to TVGuide.com and checked their listings for after Sunday, 1/11 -- they do list Melrose Place on Style. for 6pmET(5pmCT/4pmMT/3pmPT). Let's hope it tests positive on 1/12.

I so agree. Craig and Sydney were one of the best couplings ever on the show, and it is tragic that they were put together at the very end of S5. Craig and Sydney were wrong to chase Amanda and Kyle around like puppies, and finally saw that in the end.
I could not believe I actually almost cried in the Melrose finale when Sydney got shot.
I was also so sad for Craig when he shot himself in the end over her. But Jennifer is the only one who reacts and cries over his death? (I realize he was a big plot point for her....).

Am I the only one who liked Craig? I mean, I liked him after he stopped chasing Amanda and became a human being again. How could he love Jennifer? Sydney was the only one in his heart, and she had to realize that.

OK, I never watched this show, but I've seen a few clips and was hoping someone could fill me in on the plot... (I watched a SNL parody last night on tape and it's got me curious)...
Matt, the gay character played by Doug Savant...
Never had a relationship in the six years he was on the show.
Had his only on screen kiss wimped out by FOX, but what season was this?
He was brought back in the final season only to be killed off to prompt a storyline?
Who was found in the pool and what season was it? And why was it so important?
Someone rips someone else's wig off. I'm assuming that until then, she was impersonating someone. Were the characters so stupid that they didn't really recognize her? Why was she impersonating her?
Was it ever revealed just how much rent was on those apartments?

Never had a relationship in the six years he was on the show.
Had his only on screen kiss wimped out by FOX, but what season was this?

He had relationships, but of course not like the kind you see on TV shows today; his boyfriends were always either abusive or framing him for murder, or when they were nice, they had AIDS (of course).
You never saw Doug's character getting it on with other people like you did with Grant Show or Heather Locklear's characters (or anyone else for that matter on the show); times were different then, even though we had a Democrat as a President then. However, the fact that there
was a main gay character on TV in 1992 was a good start, even if Matt's character wasn't like like Will Truman on
Will & Grace.
When Matt was supposed to kiss someone on screen, this was at the end of Season 3; FOX wimped out because people who were against it, and people who didn't even watch the show but didn't like what was going to happen, boycotted the advertisers, and this made FOX show a different scene -- they had filmed like three different shots to be prepared.
Who was found in the pool and what season was it? And why was it so important?
It was Brooke Armstrong-Campbell played by Kristin Davis, who now is on Darren Star's other show
Sex and the City. This was in the middle of Season 4 (February 1996). This was an important storyline because she was a major character, but the viewers detested her so much, and the writers knew this, and they didn't know what else to do with the character. So they killed her off. She tripped, and hit her head in the infamous
Melrose pool.
Someone rips someone else's wig off. I'm assuming that until then, she was impersonating someone. Were the characters so stupid that they didn't really recognize her? Why was she impersonating her?
Matt pulled Kimberly's wig off at the beginning of Season 3, she wasn't impersonating anyone though. She had a wig on, because they had thought she had died in a car accident (and it did damage to her head which produced a massive scar on her head), but she didn't -- she came back at the end of Season 2, and wanted revenge on her boyfriend Michael.
Was it ever revealed just how much rent was on those apartments?
No, but I always assumed that it was somewhere in the neighborhood of $400-$600 a month maybe.

Patrick Muldoon. But yeah, he sucked. The only scene I remember of him though is when he was somewhere (a hotel/resort) with Jo and I think he was on the phone and Jo started making out with him. Or she was on the phone...something like that. He was hot though.
I just got done watching the one with the stripper Michael "rescues" from a mugger and where that guy Lexi hit with the car sees her and Peter doing it.

I agree, but Linden Ashby looked a lot better on
The Young and the Restless awhile ago; on
Melrose he looked like a ken doll.
And yeah, Taylor bugged me too, but I agree that I liked her the best with Michael; they were really funny together, sorta how Michael and Sydney were previously. I think after Hunter Tylo got fired, it was Patrick Muldoon who recommended Lisa Rinna for the role, since they played siblings on

What character did Linden Ashby play on TYTR? I haven't seen it ages & ages, but curious.

He played a guy named Cameron Kirsten that Sharon just recently killed in self-defense because he was going to rape her because he was threatening to tell Nicholas all about their sordid past. He was the guy that she met in Denver and had an affair with last February when she disappeared.

Word. He barely knew Taylor and Kyle; we should've gotten some dirt about Jake, Jo, Alison, Billy, Kimberly, Jane, Michael, Amanda, Peter, and maybe even Brooke or Samantha, and maybe even some dirt about Rhonda and Sandy I could buy as well, even if people barely remember them, but they did know Matt many moons ago.
Jake=Kyle--brother & all! Except that Ryan is really really cute and very nice.
They so recycled old storylines and tried to make Kyle the new Jake, which I didn't buy at all, Jake was way moodier and much more nuanced IMO. If they had made Ryan a total psycho than that would be totally ripping off a story from 3 1/2 years earlier.

I somewhat see the Kyle/Jake similarities. Yes, both were with many of the women at Melrose, Jake was with Sandy, Jo, Amanda, Allison, Sydney and Jane, and Kyle was with Taylor, Sydney, Amanda, and later on Jane(?). And they both are muscular, and own a bar.
But I think Jake was, at least during the first few seasons, seen more of as a rebel. He rode a motorcycle, wore a leatherjacket, and was as somewhat badass. Whereas Kyle was in the military, had a business, and was married.

But what was funny is that Jake turned into Brandon from
90210 in many ways; he evolved from a rebel without a cause (a la his younger pal Dylan) into the hardworking, responsilble guy of the show (someone had to be that guy since Michael evolved into the resident sleazeball of the show) -- I remember when Michael would get on Jake about having his motorbike in the courtyard, lol.
I guess that is why Jake and Jo got together since they were both the hardasses of the show, but Jake and Alison had much in common also since they both were prone to crawling inside a bottle whenever life got hard.

I ventured $400-$600 because some of them didn't have real high paying jobs (Sydney for one), so I didn't think their rent was about $1500 a month.
However, you are probably right, since it
was a decent place, in a safe section of the Melrose Avenue neighborhood,
and with a nice pool (even though no one barely swam in it though, they just went in it to die it seemed, i.e. Brooke).

True, but Kyle has that "I must fight to protect" instinct as well. I'm just now watching him beat up the Christmas tree man who was trying to get Eve to sleep with him. Like right now he's brooding that he's impotent and then breaks up his & Amanda's marriage because of it. Kyle may be a cleaned up version of Jake, since Jake would probably done the same sort of thing-but instead in his case it was Allison breaking up with him.

It is sad that none of them ever really could afford a place that expensive. Execept for maybe Amanda, Alison, Billy, Peter, Michael, and maybe Jake since he did have a thriving bar/restaurant for three and a half years.
But in the beginning Jake was just going from one job to the next like Jackie on Roseanne did. Billy and Alison maybe because they did get better positions at D&D.

Right now, the show airs on the Style network at 6p.m. E.S.T. (and 10a.m. E.S.T.), and they are right at the end of Season 7.
Style is reairing their Oscar® special on Monday, March 1st (according to TVGuide.com's listings) at 6p.m. E.S.T., so I imagine Melrose will not start over at Season 1 until Monday, March 8th, since now S7 will probably not end until Friday, March 5th.
I hope, hope, so hope they keep it after March 5th. I will be so irate if Style takes it off after only one year of having the repeats. Since they are owned by E!, one can only imagine what could happen, since they have monkeys that work at E! Networks now.

Hi, I'm new to this board. Anyway, I've been affected by the Melrose bug since last summer when the reruns were on E! Then when I started college a few months later, I began watching the reruns on the Style network. Now the Style network has scaled back the airtimes of Melrose to just weekdays at 10 AM. That doesn't make me very happy.
