I just read this from www.tvguide.com. Instead of the episode description for today, it says this:
A popular, good-natured sitcom about a widower raising three kids with the help of two friends, one a stand-up comic and the other an aspiring musician. Twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in the shared role of cutie pie Michelle Tanner were well on their way to becoming showbiz sensations (with popular home video and book series, albums, video games and their own clothing line) when the series wrapped up its eighth and final season.
Who wrote this, the Olsen Twin's parents? Cutie Pie Michelle? Did they not see what they looked like when they were babies? Did they not notice that there were other children on the show? I thought that was just...odd.

So their dad doesn't just look creepy, he behaves creepily as well?
I'm so glad I'm not alone in feeling that way about the dad. Blech, he's weird. He reminds me of Jessica Simpson's dad...always lurking around, always watching his daughter (s), being
weird. (yes, I know these fathers manage their daughters' careers, so they need to be around, but there's no need to look creepy while doing it!)

Honestly, I really liked MK&A as Michelle the first couple of seasons. Maybe seasons 1-3. It was only when the writers started tacking on those ridiculous and tired catchphrases a la You got it, dude that I started wanting to be within spitball-throwing distance of the twins. They weren't the most classically pretty little girls, but as babies they emoted well and they had a lot of personality. When the writers tried to recreate that personality in script format and the girls started obviously mimicking their line feeder(and IMO didn't even realize what they were actually saying half the time), they became robotic to me.
That said, I gotta go with a vote for Normal Humans, though mine may be the only vote for that category.

The trauma: Joey in tights. I just regained my sight.
Word. But I'll never get back my lunch.
Also on Monday night: Danny breaks up with Vicki. The best part of this episode is the fact that the ugly ass double room that Michelle and Stephanie share is finally redecorated. I loved the new room, and I won't deny that I craved the exact same decorating scheme. Still do, really.
When Joey and Jesse had Roxy and Becky on the show, I refused to believe that any of Roxy and Joey's "jokes" were funny. They were just too stupid. The fact that Becky was laughing made me momentarily lose respect for her, but hey, she got to kiss Uncle Jesse, so I guess she had to put up with the lame-ass jokes, namely Joey and Roxy.
ETA Someone should have charged Joey with indecent exposure.

I was flipping though the channels today and very unfortunately caught the Joey in tights scene. I understandably started screaming EW EW EW and my mom came in the room to see what was so bad, and then we started making fun of Joey's body. It was fun.
I too wanted Stephanie and Michelle's redone room, it was pretty cool. I think I wanted that pillow-wall decoration thing that said your name on it that Michelle had.

I always thought those pillow-wall decorations were odd. Are they common in the U.S.? They seem tlike things that'd get awfully dusty.

Also, Ashley is going to do some overseas promotion by herself for

If it's come to this, then so be it. I'm just glad she's getting help before she damaged her body beyond repair. Hopefully she'll get healthy and inspire some young girls along the way that may be struggling with similar problems. article about the entire thing according to USA Today.
That certainly doesn't make the whole "EAAAAT A SANNNDWICH" bit on SNL funny anymore. Knowing she actually has a problem.
Well, I hope she gets better. It's a slippery slope. Looking at her and Ashley you could tell something wasn't right with her, I always hoped she was naturally thin as neither girl seems to have alot of weight. Mary-Kate was noticeably thinner though. Hopefully this will educate the little girls who want to be like Mary-Kate and Ashley that eating disorders are serious and that Mary-Kate was sick.. not fabulously skinny.
Sigh. Poor girl.

I feel bad for them both, and sort of knew this would eventually happen at one time or another. I'm glad Mary Kate is doing something about it though. This is quite interesting. I first took notice when I saw pictures of them online at their Star on the Walk of Fame ceremony, and I just cringed when I saw Mary-Kate. Ashley is thin too, but she can still pass for just being naturally tiny and/or petite. But Mary-Kate, for the love of God, was like a skeleton. She was ridiculously thin and emaciated. I can't imagine why no one had been hounding her about that, especially since up until last week she was a minor. That's inexcusable.
I'm glad she's gotten herself into treatment. It probably all just became too much for her to deal with everyone gossiping about her weight, coupled with coming to terms with her problem. It's such a shame. While they indeed do resemble monkeys, one thing I always appreciated about Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen is that they never pretended that they were just "normal" people or that they had any idea of what it was like to be anything but themselves, yet still seemed to be relatively down to earth and grounded, I suppose thanks to their parents. I've never really heard any obnoxious stories about either of them, and the fact that they're both worth $150 million and still educating themselves and doing something with themselves unlike that worthless pile of dog shit Paris Hilton. Actress/model my ASS. Recording an album? Hope it sucks harder than Ashlee Simpson's.

I'm quite sure many, many people have brought this up on a previous thread, so in advance I apologize for my "stupid question". Does anyone know the exact reason why they changed Jesse's last name from Cockran (sp?) to Katsopolus (sp?) or was it just a goof? I mean, what was their point? To make his last name seem more.....Greek?

The fact that Uncle Jesse was Greek has always confused me. He was the brother of the dead mother, right? Then how did a Greek woman and Danny end up with three blonde girls?
Charlotte
Jun 23, 2004 @ 10:40 am
It's not all that unusual for Greek people to be blonde haired and blue eyed. I'm Greek and I have a handful of blonde haired, blue eyed relatives who usually get mistaken for Swedish or Irish or something like that.

Danny's sister was blonde, so the girls evidently got it from his side of the family. Also, wasn't the girls' mother blonde, too? In an ep when they were watching home movies, they showed her and I could have sworn she was blonde.
RainIsBeautiful
Jun 23, 2004 @ 10:55 am
Pam was blonde too.
Lori Loughlin's everywhere lately -- there's a nice little article on her in the new InStyle magazine (the one with Catherine Zeta-Jones on the cover) with some beautiful photographs of her home.
Miss Aquarius
Jun 23, 2004 @ 10:56 am
Yes, both Danny's sister and Pam(the girls' mother) were blonde. Another factor to consider is that I don't recall Jesse and Pam's mother's nationality ever being defined as Greek or otherwise. Their father was, and that's where most of the Greek relatives came from, IIRC(and I may not). But it's possible their mother may have had different bloodlines that help explain the girls' fair skin and blonde hair.
I mean, look at the babies they picked to play Nicky and Alex -- they don't look "typically" Greek. They resemble Becky(if anybody), and even then only after she obviously dyed her hair(remember the first couple of seasons?).

At least they sort of looked like one of their parents. The Olsen twins didn't look like anyone in that house except for maybe Joey and Comet and I don't wanna even think about that one. DJ & Stephanie kind of looked like sisters, but Michelle didn't look like anyone.

I mean, the haircut does not bug me on any other actors, or any other situations.. but it just bugged me on them. Don't even get me started on the episode where they freak out about cutting the twins' hair so they bring them to Joey dressed as a pedophile barber and he basically slicks the hair back while the proud parents (as well as the audience) "ooh" and "ahh" over the situation.
Just...no.
DustyMama

In one of the episodes (unfortunately, I forget which one), it was mentioned that Jesse was half-Greek. So Pam could've been any nationality that produced fair-haired kids.

YES! That, and the fact that the bwuddahs looked like they had Down's syndrome. The Joey-is-a-pedophile-barber episode creeped me out, too.
I don't mean to sound like some uptight English teacher, but "nationality" refers to someone's citizenship, not their heritage. An American of Greek heritage would say that their
ethnicity is Greek, but their
nationality is American.

Re: Mary-Kate's eating disorder...
In the July or June issue of Glamour (dammit, it could have been Cosmo), one of the twins was quoted saying, "Apparently, one of us is the skinny, bitchy one and the other is the fat, but nicer one. We don't know who is supposed to be who"
Yeah. Whatever.
YourDensity
Jun 23, 2004 @ 1:13 pm
There's some hypothesizing that part of the eating-disorder (in addition to stress, body-image, self-loathing, overachiever traits etc) was that Mary-Kate wanted to look different, to be different. People constantly compare the two of them. Tends to happen with twins ("the nice one", "the pretty one", "the skinny one"... etc) and with them it happened in the mass media. It's a terrible thought either way, and who knows why any individual gets into that situation, but given their high achievement at an early age, the need to please (guessing, given their upbringing of 'following direction') and their tremendous workload... it's just terrible.
Instead of acting out and destroying something else, she pushed it inward and started destroying herself. I hope she didn't do any severe damage to her system, I sincerely hope she's in good hands.

"How long did Ashley know her sister was ill?"
"How long did the family know?"
I feel bad for the family. But I think they all have good heads on their shoulders (unlike many other child star families who use the child's earnings for their own shopping sprees) so I think MK will pull through.
Anyhoo, I too, hated when they slicked the twins' hair back and Joey the barber. Frickin' creepy, that was.

I was expecting a haircut of Uncle Jesse's motorcycle accident haircut proportions.. when it was SO CLEAR that they just had some production assistant slick the hair back with water.
Of course Aunt Becky's hair got gimundo towards the end. Made her face look teeeeny tiny. I liked her best circa-wedding/pregnancy.. or when she was a natural brunette. The red hair never worked, imho.
Oh and Jesse needed to lay off the hair products. Stat.
