I believe the cousin was actually named Steve, right? Not to be confused with DJ's boyfriend a few years later, Steve, but Steve as in played by Kirk Cameron Steve. I think DJ was all upset because Steve was all grown up now and wanted to play with the big boys instead of her.
Wasn't there a similar episode of Family Ties when Jennifer is pissed about a similar situation?
sunny605
KC as cousin Steve was toward the end of the first season.
Miss Aquarius
The only other cousin I remember is Melina from Greece.

Cousin Steve...oy. Greetings from Baltimore!

Had I been on that show, my first response to that would have been to scream and run as far as my little legs could carry me.

This is somewhat random, but in a fit of boredom I looked up how many times FH is on on weekdays, and discovered that it's on 12 times a day. Compare that to Friends, which is only on 4 times a day. Granted many are repeat episodes...but still, 12 times. That is way too many.

Wow, I had no idea it was on THAT much. I wonder if that includes local TV, because where I live, FH hasn't been shown locally for a few years now. We've got it on cable - Nickelodeon and ABC Family (whatever it's called). But I agree, it is on way too much. Though I'm still anxiously waiting for this show to come to DVD with the works.

Just a comment on the episode with Rusty and the love letter. I always found this one so intriguing and I remember that my dad actually watched this episode as a rerun and laughed (he was no fan of FH). Another thing, I think this was the only, or one of very few episodes, that only had an A story and no subplot, or B story. The only other one I can think of is Jesse & Becky's wedding, but there was sort of a B story with Jesse going skydiving/going to jail. Kind of interesting. Oh, a friend of mine told me this, so if it's wrong, it's her fault!
ChinkyGirl
I, too, enjoyed the love letter ep. I think it has mostly do to with the lack of sappiness in it. Even after they all found out that Rusty did it, they just chased him around, but I don't think anyone scolded him or gave him a heart-to-heart talk, am I right?
Miss Aquarius
I believe Nickelodeon airs 2 episodes of FH twice a day -- the reruns from the previous night at 5 and 5:30am, then "new" episodes during Nick at Nite at 9 and 9:30pm. Nick Too reruns the previous night's episodes twice a day as well, then ABC Family airs two episodes a day. I think that's it for cable. There's a lot of repetition there, which I'm sure is going to anger me to no end once we get back into the later seasons, but it actually was just about this bad when TBS ran episodes. FH always seems to get a huge amount of air time.

Speaking of DVDs, has anyone heard anything official about FH possibly being released? It's definitely something I'd love to have, and I'm sure that outtakes/cast commentary would be priceless.

All I have to say is, the guys who "sweetened" the laugh track for this show must have just cried themselves to sleep every night.

MICHELLE: I'm coming, I'm coming, I'm coming!

AUDIENCE: Huh huh hu huh huh huh hee hee.

MICHELLE: I'm here!

AUDIENCE: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! [claps]

SOUND GUY: Kill me.

Just saw an episode where Kimmy sleeps over and she replaces Stephanie's bedside picture of Danny with a picture of Patrick Swayze. It made me feel old because I wonder how much of the pop culture that DJ and Kimmy talk about is even understood by the little kids watching reruns. Then again, I get the strange feeling that the only people watching Full House these days are the people who watched it when it first ran.
Mangetical Anji
Mommy, I'm scared.

I've always wondered this, too, especially since my younger brothers watch the show occasionally. When the show first started, I was in 4th grade and I had no clue who Bananarama and Stacy Q. were - I thought they were made-up singers for the show. I can only imagine what todays' kids think of Tommy Page, who was barely a success in 1991.

Another late 80's thing I don't understand are Garanimals, or possibly Grrranimals, which DJ mentions in the episode when she dresses slutty for junior high, "I'll run upstairs, put on my Garanimals, and go skipping off to school..." Is this like an Osh-Kosh kiddie brand of clothes? I had never heard of them before.
Threve
Mangetical Anji, that link scared me more than anything on the scarred for life page and that is saying a lot.
Miss Aquarius
Shell76, Garanimals were a popular children's clothing line in the 80s, yeah. IIRC, they were a little bit more expensive than the French Toast/OshKosh clothing lines. Probably equivalent to today's "The Children's Place" or "Baby Gap/Gap Kids".
Miss Granger
Ah... the expensive clothing of the 80's talk reminds me of the ep. when DJ had to have to royal blue sweater, and the school lawnmower ran over it. Stephanie shoplifts a new one and much hilarity and morality ensues. Good times. Love that ep!
lindseywalker
Were Garanimals the ones that had the commercial "Just match tags"? I think they were! It made it easy for Mom to pick outfits that matched because if the animals on the tags matched, the clothes matched. Fortunately my Mom was brilliant enough on her own not to need to match tags. No plaids with stripes for us, with or without giraffes to guide Mom.

Uh oh, they're showing the episode where Joey auditions for a part in a sitcom with Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon. This is one of the episodes I hate the most. Everything from Joey's lame ass I'm-a-Star fantasy (why is he still living in that house if he's famous???) to the idiotic "pilot" episode of the sitcom. It was even more lame than Full House itself.

The one good thing? I still think of Annette Funicello as Annette Funny Jello.
ChinkyGirl
A few nights ago was the one where Joey went to Vegas to open for Wayne Newton. The whole time Joey was on stage, I kept thinking, "they might have hung a HUGE applause sign up there," because his jokes were incredibly unfunny, yet some of them got this huge prolonged clapping. WTF? It's quite painful to watch, b/c that is the longest unfunny Joey moment in the history of the show.
Miss Aquarius

That sounds about right. My Garanimals memories are quite fuzzy though.

Oh, gosh. So many unfunny Joey moments. The Wayne Newton episode is particularly awful, as is the one where he goes on Star Search. I remember wishing Joey was funny when I first watched the show -- I think Dave is real talented as far as his vocal impressions go, but for some reason there's a lack of wit behind those impressions, at least in the case of his material on FH.
ChinkyGirl
I guess that's the case with most talented impressionists. [OT]I recently went to a comedy club and one of the comedians did dead-on impressions (the entire cast of Everybody Loves Raymond were a few of them), but he was practically boo-ed by the audience because what he was saying in those voices was just plain unfunny.[/OT]

Yay! BOTH Rusty episodes were on tonight!
Shell76
Thank you all for the Garanimals help! My brothers and I were cursed to wear Sears fashions during our childhoods, at least until we were old enough to go to the mall without Mom.

Aieeee! This one is definitely in my Top 3 Most Hideous Episodes (different than my Top 3 Worst), hideous meaning that watching it made me ashamed of watching FH, period. What was the deal of the craptacular "Surf's Up!" being turned into a shitastic cartoon? Funny how this other job of Joey's was never mentioned again. I really disliked any episode centering on Joey's comedy, for the same reasons everyone's mentioned. Yeah, he had a handful of good impressions, but when you hear the same old Popeye laugh 100 times, the urge to strangle him overrides any possible enjoyment.
HibbaN
Is this show still on in America? Oh, how I loooooved this show!!!!
KateQD
Only in reruns. If you read a few pages back, in some places its on about 12 times a day. In fact where I live is one of those places! Are you not in America? If you are check your Nickelodeon listings for the times its on at night (9 PM Eastern), its also on ABC Family, but I'm not sure if that channel is basic cable across the country.

Oh my god I used to have the biggest crush on Rusty....wow that brought me back. And then I had an even bigger crush on Steve.....ok I feel kind of old now.
ducksrun
I had a huge crush on Steve too. He's part of the reason why I like the movie Aladdin so much.

The other night I saw the episode where Joey takes Stephanie to the Mother/Daughter Honeybee sleepover. I had forgotten that I knew the Honeybee pledge until Steph and Becky started singing it and I sang along with them. Of course, then I had it stuck in my head for a day.

Ah. Me too. I loved the whole 'issue' of being made fun of because of your name in that ep. StepOnMe changes her names to Dawn Ariel Tanner? Gold. Danny singing the theme song to Bonaza as "Dawn Dawn Dawn Dawn DAWN!" GOLD.
Screamie
Does anyone know Rusty's real name? I'd be curious to see if he's done any recent work.
Miss Aquarius
Rusty was played by Jordan Christopher Michael. IMDB doesn't have him listed as having done anything past 1994.

Heh, so was I. But I remember DJ wearing some tacky 80s sweatshirt that had to have been from Sears because I had the exact same one.

I always think of her as Annette "Full of Jello" because my dad called her that....

I hated Rusty. Don't kill me - the kid grated!
The only 'boyfriend' of the girls that I liked was 'Howie'. I thought that was a cute episode (the first one when they were babies, not the annoying one when they were older). My cousin named her baby 'Howie' and we all say it like Michelle. That poor kid. He's going to be messed up.

Is it sick that, after watching this, I wanted to have sex with Frankie Avalon?

That dopey "Cowabunga!/Hang Loose!" pose added ontop of his devotion to Annette in recent years as charmed me beyond all reasonable bounds.
MaryEB
First time post on this board....I was a big FH fan back in the day (need a talking Michelle doll? I have, not one, but TWO from way back when...) It is one of my guilty pleasures that I still watch.

All the talk of clothes reminded me of something I've always been curious about. It seems like the style of dressing of the three girls were pretty different -- specifically that Stephanie had a lot of sort of far-out, off-beat clothing while the other two girls seemed more with the trends of their particular age group. Was wondering if anyone had noticed this before. I have always wondered if, perhaps, the girls brought a lot of their own clothing to wear. I don't know how big the budget was for each ep but it seems like it would have been logical to have them bring at least some of their own stuff rather than buy new outfits for every single cast member for every single show. I thought maybe that accounted for the seeming difference in styles.
Shell76
MaryEB, that's a really good observation! I hadn't thought of their clothes being anything but the latest trends, which I, being an Ohioan, would not see for another year in our stores (since trends always make it here last). I think the clothes for each character was reflective of his/her personality. DJ was the more conservative, goody-two-show, trend-setter, so her wardrobe reflected that. Stephanie was the very outgoing and outspoken one, so she got stuck with lots of brightly-colored sweaters and knit outfits that were a bit outrageous. But as Stephanie got older and her personality mellowed out she started dressing like DJ, with lots of earthtones that were popular then. And Michelle was the super-cute one that wore every adorable baby/toddler/pre-school outfit the costumers could find. When she got older and more like Stephanie personality-wise, she lost the cute look and got into more trendy/outrageous stuff.

I read/saw somewhere that each cast member, at least the kids, were allowed to keep one outfit from the wardrobe department at the close of each season. I remember this well because Andrea Barber, who played Kimmy, never wanted to keep any of her outfits! Of course, Kimmy's wardrobe was very neon, loud and garish, much like the character. This would make me believe that the actors did not use their own clothes, but it's still possible. Especially possible in the first 1 or 2 seasons, because their clothes seemed very ordinary and plain at that time. Maybe they had more money later on for use on wardrobe.

Speaking of clothes, has anyone seen one of the girls ever wear the same thing twice? I think I have, it was a purple sweatshirt that Stephanie wore when she was 8-10. It was deep purple and it had an applique of a girl on the front. The girl had blonde hair, which was made of actual yellow yarn that stuck out of the shirt, giving it a 3D effect. This shirt always caught my eye and I think I've seen her wear it two or three times.
queenfrostine

Ahh, I remember that shirt. I probably thought it was really cool at the time, which makes me a little sad.

And I had totally forgotten about the talking Michelle doll! I remember my grandma got it for me for my birthday, and I played it so much that everyone made me stop. That, plus me constantly saying "How rude!" must have really annoyed my parents.
MaryEB
I know I have seen a repeat outfit on Michelle at least once but I can't for the life of me recall specifics. I just remember because I was surprised at the time, since you don't often see that on t.v. shows at all.
RainIsBeautiful
She wore the red dress with the big clown-like pom poms on the front more than once, didn't she?
Miss Aquarius
Stephanie and DJ were both outfit-repeaters... Stephanie wore that scotty dog outfit more than once...that had the red and black patterned skirt. DJ wore the sweater she holds up in the opening credits(I think it was season 2) twice -- once during one of the horse-riding episodes and then in (I think) the opening scene of another episode. In season 1, Stephanie had two pairs of overalls that I remember seeing more than once -- the light blue and the pink ones. But that could just be reruns playing tricks on me.

God, I have no life. At all.

Since we were talking about wardrobe, it made me think of some of the props used on the show. Michelle and I had the same music box -- the one with the twirling ballerina. I was all cheezed out when I saw it on the show for the first time.

I wanted a talking Michelle doll, MaryEB and queenfrostine! I was too embarrassed to ask for it, though. Much later, when I was like 13 or so, one of my little boyfriends told me he used to have an Urkel doll, so I didn't feel as bad for wanting Michelle anymore, hehe.
RainIsBeautiful
Ooooooh, there's such thing as an Urkel doll? That's going on my Christmas list!

(OT: queenfrostine, is your name from the She-Ra cartoons? Frostine rocked!)
Miss Aquarius
The talking Urkel doll came out at the same time as the talking Michelle doll. I believe it uttered such catchphrases as "Did I do that?" and "Got any cheese?". The more popular online auction sites usually have one or two around if you really want one and that wasn't a sarcastic post. ;)
queenfrostine
RainIsBeautiful, I took Queen Frostine from the Candy Land game. I've never seen She-Ra, I think it was on when I was about one so I kind of missed the boat on that one!

Those scottie terrier/plaid outfits were huuuge back in the day. I used to wear mine all the time, and I didn't even really like dogs. I think I even had some scottie earrings. Point being I can definitely see Stephanie wearing that outfit a lot.
RainIsBeautiful
*sheepish* Thanks, Miss Aquarius! I really do want an Urkel doll. Does he do-do-do-do-do-do 'The Urkel'?

I'm in the wrong forum. ;)

Topic! Jesse's hair: All That or Puke-a-licious?

Mullet: puke-a-licious
Regular hair: all that, as long as it didn't get too big. I have to say, I really, really like his hair.
Miss Aquarius
RainIsBeautiful, if you do an eBay search for Urkel doll, a BUNCH of them come up. Sadly, I think the episode with "Do the Urkel" came about after the doll was released.

Topic time! Uncle Jesse's hair -- I don't know. It always was too poofy for my tastes. Then again, I positively LOVED the poof when it came to DJ's bangs.

With all the hair comments on that show, I'm surprised the Jheri Curl never came up. They could have had a VSE where DJ befriends a Crip or something.

ETA the following:

There will be a Mary-Kate and Ashley marathon tomorrow on ABC Family -- starting at 12pm, they'll be alternating an episode of FH with an episode of Two of a Kind until 4pm, and then it's 3 more straight hours of FH. If anyone's gonna be checking it out, enjoy!
ChinkyGirl
Since we were talking about wardrobe, it made me think of some of the props used on the show.

Ooh...I had the same plastic clown lamp that Michelle had! Did I just admit that? God, I'm sad too ;)
