I am saddened by the further perpetuation of the "Uncle Joey" misnomer. That tool wasn't any more family than Kimmy was. He was just some douche Danny met in school.

I call two of my mom's best friends since high school aunt and uncle. I think it happens a lot with people's old friends from school. I don't remember if the girls called him Uncle Joey, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did.
McKay
I've seen every episode numerous times, except for the one that seems to have mysteriously vanished from syndication, and I don't ever remember them referring to him as "Uncle Joey." I could be wrong.
LollipopGal82
The girls never called him Uncle Joey, not once. Jesse and Rebecca occasionally referred to him as Uncle Joey when speaking to the twins ("Now, you go watch your Uncle Joey...), but I don't remember if Nicky or Alex ever actually called them that themselves. Of course, they hardly ever spoke in coherent sentences so there's that.

I was maybe 13 years old before I found out that a couple I had been calling Aunt and Uncle my whole life weren't actually related to me. :) If the girls would call him Uncle Joey, that would be perfectly fine and I would get that, but they never did.

On the subject of counting down the most annoying TV characters, I remember a list that came out some years back of the 50 most annoying characters/personalities, and the entire cast was voted number one.

LOL-That is hysterical! Though really, I wouldn't list the WHOLE cast. Danny & Michelle, definitely. Joey sometimes, and the twins. OK, so half the cast is annoying!

The rumors were true all this time...

WARNING! Horrifying giant picture of Cool-yay!
McKay
Agh! Could you have not warned for that horrifying giant picture of Cool-yay?!

Michelle was more annoying than Urkel and Screech put together. Urkel and Screech were nerds with annoying voices, but they weren't spoiled brats who always got their way.
McKay
I don't know, Urkel usually got everyone to apologize to him for not loving his creepy, stalkerish behavior by the end of the episode. That's pretty close for me. But I still hate Michelle more, of course.

I could never stand to sit through more than five minutes of this show, but after watching the Bob Saget roast on Comedy Central the other night, I decided to check out this thread out of curiosity. And I have to say it's refreshing to see that even among those who like the show, the general consensus is that A) Joey is about as funny as getting a prostate exam from Edward Scissorhands, and B) Troll Doll Michelle was an irredeemable smartmouthed brat who got away with murder.

The ideal series finale would've consisted of Michelle being soundly ignored for the entire episode until she pulled some random act of destruction, resulting in the other characters taking turns spanking her with a wooden switch. She is then hauled off to juvenile court presided over by Judge Judy, where Joey launches into one of his lame-ass Bullwinkle impressions in the middle of court only to be tazered by JJ's bailiff Byrd. JJ sentences Michelle and Joey to hard time in Alcatraz which is recommissioned as a prison just for the occasion. The End.

ETA: Speaking of Full House/Judge Judy crossovers, the Olson Twins make a memorable appearance in this JJ parody video (NOT safe for work).

That's really funny. I actually liked DJ and Stephanie from time to time, especially as they got older. Michelle was always horrible. And I thought Rebecca and Jesse were fine.

Speaking of horrible Michelle moments, I remember one where Rebecca and Jesse brought home samples of cake for their wedding for everyone to try, and they're all about to try it when Michelle jumps on the table and starts devouring as much cake as she can. GOD! I have no idea why that particular moment pissed me off so much, but it did. And, of course, the whole family thought it was cute and funny. Who the hell lets their child do that kind of thing? If I did that when I was little, I would've gotten severely punished. It has forever tainted that particular episode for me, even though the other plot was actually good, (DJ having an eating disorder).
Limbonaut
Say what you want about Dave Coulier(annoying Joey and inspiration for Alanis Morisette's You Oughtta Know) he did the best Richard Pryor impression I've ever seen. I remember he did it on the old CBS Tom Snyder show and it was amazing.
NicoleMN6
Is there a separate thread somewhere for the Comedy Central Roast of Bob Saget?

Found it.

Heh, try and notice Stephanie's face. She doesn't look like she thinks it's cute and funny.
Charlotte
Oh Christ, even when I was eight I thought that scene was infuriating. Who would seriously find that funny?
dougfir
Had I pulled a stunt like that when I was a kid, I'd have been grounded until I started college.

As much as this show gets compared to The Brady Bunch, at least when the Brady kids acted up there were actual, you know, consequences.
McKay
Four hours in the snake pit!

I also don't remember Carol and Mike blatantly taking one particular child's side on a regular basis. And on the occasions they did something like that, they acknowledged it and apologized to the other children.

Thinking about it, Danny's complete lack of respect for his older daughters annoys the hell out of me. He spies on DJ, who has repeatedly proven herself to be unusually responsible and levelheaded, he repeatedly lets Michelle dictate what they're going to do (or in the case of the Counting Crows concert, not do), he apologizes to Michelle for punishing her when it's just, but I don't remember him apologizing to DJ when he accused her of drinking beer without anything resembling evidence...
alaspata
I was most like D.J. when I was a teenager -- very responsible and level-headed, excelled in school, etc. My mom (a single parent) was pretty overprotective of me at the time even though I was responsible, so I can believe the Danny/D.J. dynamic. I can also believe that Danny would be the most vigilant with D.J. because she was the first one and he wanted to make sure he got it right. That said, it seems like he eased up WAY too much by the time he got to Michelle. I just wanted to say to the TV, "Like, guess what Danny, Michelle isn't D.J., and like, she needs to, you know, receive consequences for bad stuff." Ugh, I hated Michelle, and she did get away with too much, especially in the later seasons. My favorite was actually Stephanie. I actually thought she really did come out in between D.J. and Michelle in terms of responsibility and Danny's parenting skills. By the time we got to the later seasons where Stephanie was a teenager, Danny seemed much more relaxed about her dating boys than he was with D.J. earlier in the season.

What is Jodie Sweetin thinking? I really hope that this doesn't happen.

People -Jodie Sweetin (9-22-2008)

Does she have no shame? Is she that desperate to humiliate herself some more?

I rather remember her as the lovable Stephanie Tanner than her trying to shame herself even more on reality TV. Didn't she learn anything from Dance Off Pants Off?

What happened to Andrea Barber (Kimmy Gibbler)? She is nowhere to be found. Even though Kimmy is not as cute as Stephanie Tanner, she was very pretty in the first 4 seasons of Full House.
Stinger97
Is that really that big of a deal, though? I mean, how many washed up 70s/80s/90s television stars have had renewed fame after doing reality shows? VH1 has built an entire brand (their "Celebreality" television block) out of it. If this can get Sweetin back on our television screens and working again, and she's happy doing it, then I'm all for it. And hey, maybe the show will actually be good?

According to Wikipedia, she has been living in the UK with her husband and two children since 2002. IMDB says she moved to the UK to attend graduate school at the University of York. Neither Wikipedia nor IMDB list any acting credits for her after 1995.

Has anybody else been watching Lori Loughlin on 90210? She's ok in her role there, but I can't stop thinking of her as Aunt Becky.
Phenobarbara
Man, I'd almost forgotten about this thread. I looked back a few pages to re-live our Michelle hate. That little asshole got away with murder and those dopey adults ought be have been smacked upside the head the way they worshipped the ground she pissed on.
susannah2000
If I remember rightly, in the episode about DJ drinking, wasn't that the one where the kids were at the dance, and Jesse saw DJ holding a can of beer, and also smelling of beer from having it spilled on her? That would be evidence to me. Of course she said she wasn't drinking, but all kids claim innocence when they are in trouble. It seemed to me pretty reasonable that Danny thought she had been drinking, and not it's necessarilly a good thing that he would just buy her claim of innocence despite appearances to the contrary. Should he have apologized to her? I am not sure. He did find out she wasn't drinking, but as I said, just buying her " I didn't do it" wouldn't be good parenting either. She was at that age..peer pressure is trouble!

I didn't think that Danny was too harsh on DJ's dating after she got old enough to date, I am not of the group that thinks kids should be dating when they are 11...and he seemed to be pretty easygoing with Stephanie's being caught at a makeout party and wanting to smoke to fit in also.

The way I see it (and this is one of my favorite Full House episodes because it aggravates me so) D.J. was dealing with not just her father's distrust, but the fact that Kevin, a boy that she liked and thought she knew, would partake in the behavior and leave her to look like she was the culprit. I would have believed her. It was the first time on Full House that I saw DJ realizing that her father wouldn't trust her at her word, which (when I saw this at a young age) was shocking to me. The thing about this show that always bugged me was that, in my opinion, you never know someone's morals until they're put to the test. There had to be peer pressure and the girls (Stephanie and DJ both) had to cave so we could learn a very important, obnoxious, lesson. Watching the show as an adult, and having been in similar situations, I realize something. The thing is, if you say no to smoking or drinking, even at a young age, no one cares. You're not laughed out of town. No one ostracises you. If others do it, that's fine. They're not you.
I never understood Stephanie's irrational behavior over Gina's smoking. And if I was Gina and my friend blabbed to her disc jockey uncle and implicated me as the smoker in the girl's room (because how many friends can Stephanie have?) I'd take her out of my social calendar.
BondGirl
It wasn't just that he didn't believe her, it was that neither he nor Uncle Jesse listened to her AT ALL. She made numerous attempts to explain herself and tell the truth about what happened and they completely refused to hear it--and Joey acted as if she hadn't said anything, with his patronizing, "DJ, it's okay if you made a mistake, but you have to admit to it", crap.

That's a very bad way of parenting. Parents talk about trusting their kids, but how's a kid supposed to trust them if they're treated like that?

Well, in the context of the Full House universe (which is a 'verse completely divorced from reality), Stephanie wasn't acting irrational. Mickey was her first friend at her new school. Gia was Mickey's friend, too. Gia and the others were making fun of Stephanie for being a baby and not wanting to smoke. I could understand Stephanie wanting to hang on to Mickey but not knowing how, what with the peer pressure. And it's not like she was a narc and tattling; in fact she tried to disguise her voice and didn't give anybody's names. Of course, she did such a bad job that Jesse (or was it DJ?) figured it out, but I doubt that anybody else could.
Phenobarbara
I agree with BondGirl. The adults refused to listen to D.J. at all. Considering she has never been a troublemaker in her life, they ought to have listened to the girl and let her explain. Their behavior was cruel.

My conclusions of Full House:

-COMET WAS THE BEST ACTOR ON THAT SHOW.

-As a kid, I loved the Olsen Twins, not the Michelle character, though. I had all of their movies and CDs. Shut up, I'm exactly a day older than them.
But watching them now, I HATE MICHELLE TANNER! Everyone is right, she gets away with murder, and everyone says "Aww" and kisses her. Evil bitch.

-I liked DJ at the end of the series. The prank episode was a surprising out-of-character for her. And Uncle Jesse supporting the prank was even more surprising for me.
I saw Candance on The View a while back, and she looks GREAT. Actually, she looks better now than she did back then.

-Stephanie was a little annoying as a kid & pre-teen years, but I liked her overall. She was an adorable little kid.

-I like Bob Saget, but not Danny Tanner.

-John Stamos IS a very good looking man. He still is. I know he was tired of the cookie-cutter image he had.

-Joey's jokes got old after the first two episodes. Seriously, the bullwinkle impression and "cut it out" thing was so stupid. No wonder he never made it in comedy. The dude was not funny, at all.
And it's no wonder why he never got married either. "Oh hey, come over to my place! I live with 8 other people in the basement, and I'm 30 years old! I still sleep in footsie PJ's!"
Grow up, dude.
But Dave did seem like a nice guy in general. Anyone else think he looks like Jeff Daniels? Dumb & Dumber has been one of my all-time favorite movies for years and years, and for the longest time I thought Harry was Dave.
Maybe it's just me, i don't know.

Remember the episode where Michelle wanted to swim in her baby pool, but Stephanie and DJ said it was too cold outside, so Michelle brought her pool in the kitchen, (even though the answer was NO) and Danny blamed DJ and Stephanie for it?
Ooh, that always made me so angry. What was so special about Michelle?
IMO, Stephanie as a child was WAY more adorable... way more.

Anyone else feel they brought Nicky & Alex in to have the same thing happen to them that happened to the Olsens?
But we all know that never happened. I never understood why they brought twins in. Anyone else notice how in one episode they were babies then the next they were 2 year olds? I hate it when sitcoms do that.

And once again, COMET WAS THE BEST ACTOR ON THAT SHOW.

Becauses shes da wittle pwincess. I loved baby and young toddler Michelle, but older Michelle just got annoying. I hated how DJ got punished for bringing a horse home, but Michelle got away with bringing the donkey home.
LollipopGal82
Well, to be fair to Michelle (boy that leaves a bad taste in my mouth), the real issue about D.J. and the horse that Danny was angry about wasn't about bringing the horse into the house, but because D.J. "bought" it after Danny specifically told her she couldn't get it. Danny never told Michelle she couldn't buy a donkey.
Drew T.
I'll defend the pool episode and say that while Danny's behavior was pretty bad, the episode was about how he didn't treat Michelle the same way he treated the other girls. He was willing to let her get away with anything, and everyone recognized that that was unfair. So even though he does cave toward the end, I give the writers credit for addressing the issue.

Of course, it never came up again, and then there were the horrible episodes where Michelle could do anything -- like cause a dinosaur to fall over at a museum -- and come out sympathetically.
McKayChupa
I hate when any parent lets their youngest get away with everything and then gets mad at their older sibling(s) for it. Luckily that only happened once in this series.
susannah2000
I would like to know how a two year old can bring their baby pool into the kitchen, fill it with water,(and from where, there was no hose, and how could she work a hose) change out of their clothes and into a one piece suit, put their water wings on and be "swimming" in the pool all by themselves? I don't think so.

But talking about brats, Nicky and Alex were kids from Hell. The show that really irritated me is when they break a toy of Michelle's, she gets mad at them for it, and then they start saying they hate her and that she is mean. Eventually SHE apologizes to THEM. Nowhere in there were they taught to respect others and their things. Clearly I need to get out more.
BondGirl
Didn't they also destroy her science project? What goes around comes around, frankly, and after years of doting on Michelle and rarely punishing her when she did wrong, it's no surprise that Jesse would raise his kids the same way.

Every time I watch that episode, I secretly hope that the scene changes and Danny gives Michelle a what-for explaining that it's partly her own fault for being stupid enough to leave her project on the floor with the door open, when there are two little kids, not to mention a dog, in the house.

I did think Danny mentioned that about it being careless of her to leave it on the floor, especially since the sun was an orange and the dog would've eaten it.
LollipopGal82
I'm fairly certain he didn't say that at all, or anything that would imply Michelle should share some of the blame. :)
McKay
Something that seemed weird to me: Nicky and Alex never seemed to age. They didn't seem to grow much, and their speech never improved. It was like they were permanently two years old.
FortKnoxII
Not only that but, they didn't like playing with other kids. There was an ep were they couldn't get the twins to play with the other kids cause they would just play with each other.
LollipopGal82
I always thought they seemed kind of slow for their age. I seem to remember the Olsens could communicate better when they were two, three years old. Even at the end of the show, when the Tuomy-Wilhoit boys were about four and a half, they still talked like they were two. Michelle already had her own damn catchphrase when she was that age. :)

Well, they'll be 18 (!) later this month. I guess we can assume their speech has improved since then.
PRgal
It'll be interesting to see how a reunion show would work, should they do one. Everyone's grown up now! I guess a reunion show would probably centre around a Michelle wedding.

The episode "But I'm not D.J.!" is on now. It's the one where Stephanie wants to get her ears pierced, but Danny says she's "too young".
Stephanie is about 12, 13 at this point, right? Maybe a little younger, she looks older. But, regardless, that girl was NOT too young to get her ears pierced.

Babies have their ears pierced. Come on, Danny. Get real.

Ewww, I just had a flasback to the ep when Michelle and Steve did that wedding and Michelle fucking thought it was real. "But I thought we were maaahhhhweeed, Steve!" WTF? That was one of the most god awful eps on this show. It was wrong on so many levels.
bluroses

Michelle would only be about 22/23. Not that people don't get married at that age, but it's sort of young. Stephanie's marriage/ Michelle's college graduation would be more likely.
I would actually watch that, if only to see how everyone looks/ gets along now. I wonder, on the off chance that this were to happen, how they'd handle the Olsen situation. It's not like those girls can still play one person.
McKayChupa

Which is funny because I could of sworn I saw 5 year old Stephanie with studs. Then again, I could be imagining.
susannah2000
You weren't imagining it. When the show started, Stephanie clearly had pierced ears already. 12 is not too young, five is too young IMO, unless it's done to cultural belief. Mileage may vary.
LollipopGal82
I had my ears pierced when I was six months old. I'm pretty sure it wasn't my idea, though.

What is the big deal about Stephanie, at ten, getting her ears pierced (even though Jodie Sweetin clearly had pierced ears from the beginning of the series, as just stated)? I'm the same age as Jodie/Stephanie, was in the same grade as Stephanie was that season, and I don't remember any girl in my class not having pierced ears.

I'm thinking a few years down the road, when Michelle is, say, 27.
bluroses
True, But if they were to do a reunion now you could have Stef's marriage and Michelle's graduation falling on the same weekend due to a sceduling mix-up of some sort. Wacky hijinxs ensue.

I didn't spend all night thinking about this, I promise.

Not to mention, how old was DJ when she got her own phone line? Didn't she get her own line before she even got her own room? I was about a year younger than DJ and remember being pissed at my parents for not giving me my own line and then realizing as I got older that no matter how popular I was, that would have been absolutely ridiculous.

And I was 3 weeks old when the doctor pierced my ears. But I had zero hair and my mom was sick of everyone calling me a boy.
