I am ashamed to admit I immediately recognized her, and she sounded the same to me.

I don't watch Grey's, but I did immediately recognize Jurnee Smollett on her episode of House.

It always bugged the hell out of me that no one could ever say no to Michelle. "I'm sorry you feel left out, but there are only two tickets and it's a rock group that Stephanie and DJ like. Why don't we think of something that three of you can do together this weekend?" Seriously, how hard is it to come up with something like that, Tanner?! God forbid she be disappointed for a moment in her life.
RollingThunder

Jurnee Smollett was also on Wanda at Large.
susannah2000
She also was very good in "Eve's Bayou" , when she was maybe 10 or 11. Good cast, interesting movie. I am not a Michelle hater but I don't think she wanted to go to the concert in order to spend time with DJ, she just wanted to be included, Not one of her best moments. I would have reminded her that she didn't have to be included in everything the older kids did, and go play.

Danny was such a clueless parent. I didn't like when he punished Stephanie and Michelle when DJ dragged them to the movies, sat them in one theater and then went off to another one with her boyfriend, after Kimmy snuck them all in.
LollipopGal82
I believe they were all in the same theater, she just banished them to the back row because they kept bugging her and Steve. Anyway, in that case I don't think Danny's punishing the younger two was entirely unwarranted (for once), because on the one hand he knows that they knew what they were and weren't supposed to do, but on the other hand, did they really have much choice but to go with D.J. since they couldn't stay home alone? Ah well.

I really want to bitchslap Michelle in the Counting Cows ... Cars ... Crows episode, though.
susannah2000
Well that was my point..whether they knew it was wrong or not, it would be expecting alot for them to say, "no DJ it would be wrong to go to a movie when we don't have enough money..." and Michelle was only 7 or 8..pretty much had to do what DJ told her to do, therefore I don't think they should have been punished.
ladyrott
If I recall correctly, Michelle and Stephanie were punished for lying about the movie thing, not for actually going.
Shell76
I never really gave too much thought to the various absurdities of this show. But the other day, I caught an episode where Joey won two tickets to the Counting Crows, and gave them to DJ and Stephanie. Who, at this time, are in their mid to late teens.

Michele gets jealous, Danny makes the three of them draw straws, and DJ ends up having to take Michele. Who is 8. To a rock concert. Both of the older girls actually point out how retarded it is to take a small child to a rock concert, indicating to me that the writers were at least sober while penning this episode. But Danny's just like, "Sorry. The word of the short straw is bond. Make sure she doesn't get kidnapped or a contact high or something."

I'm only paraphrasing a little bit.

It was really the first time I found Danny Tanner to not just be a little dim, but clinically bat shit insane. They really stopped trying by that point, I guess. Like, "we let manatees push balls with random words together, and then that's our script" lazy. Just thought I'd share.

Oh, the horror....so much idiocy in this episode!! This is one of my five or so unwatchable episodes. Another is the "Michelle stops the family from moving" episode and another entailed Kimmy taunting Jesse with an ostrich (WTF?) in season 8. I think the other two are the "Little Sid" and "Michelle brings home a donkey" epi's. Funny, pretty much all of them are Michelle-centric. I despised this episode so much that I even avoided the Counting Crows during the 90's. Just this month, I finally mustered the courage to put a newer C.C. song into my iPod.

Back to the episode, where to begin? From what I can remember, Danny must have been abducted and replaced by an alien. For a dad that would lose his shit if Michelle crossed a street alone, allowing her to go to a rock concert with another minor (assuming DJ was 17) was pure insanity. It went so much against Danny's character, and just for the sake of this lame storyline. I wish I could have slapped him through the TV. Then you have dumb Michelle being fooled into thinking she's sick by a bunch of dot stickers on a hand mirror. It was Schmendrick's disease - I won't forget that since Schmendrick is a character from the movie "The Last Unicorn" (thanks for tainting my favorite childhood movie!). Okay, so the tyke can dish out verbal insults to kids twice her age and manipulate others to do her bidding, but she can't tell she's looking at a bunch of frickin' stickers!? Just, wow. I really hated the slapstick, dumbass crap from Season 8; I like to pretend the show ended after Season 5.
Cypher21
Can you just imagine the horror if we ended up with one more season like the then new WB network had proposed? Shudder...
LollipopGal82
Jodie's the cover story for this week's People magazine. Is it me or is baby Zoie not that cute?
AbrilOrchid
Is it me or is baby Zoie not that cute?

I was coming to post about the People story as well. And, no, it's not just you. Although, I'm not one of those people who "awwww"s everytime I see a baby. Apparently, Jodi has had work done or something, because she sure doesn't look like those people in the "faces of meth" posters! I don't find her husband that cute either. Or handsome.
kuonjiranma
I was just watching episode 1.16 (But Seriously, Folks) and I think I recognized the magician, Ed Alonzo, as Max from Saved by the Bell. Is that right?

ETA

Watching the eppy when Uncle Jesse runs away from the house and one scene in particular pisses me off. Joey, Steph, and D.J. enter the kitchen and see a meal set up for TWO. There are lit candles and wine glasses and all the clues any sane, respectful person would need to realize that this is A ROMANTIC RENDEZVOUS. What does Joey do? Steps right up to the table and starts goofing around with the food THAT HE KNOWS IS NOT FOR HIM. GAWD, I wanted to kick his ass for that.

Yes, I know that D.J. and Steph were eating as well, but they were following his lead and were 10 and 5 years old.
Magog
Why would anyone name their girl, Zoie? I like Jodie Sweetin, but mispelling a beautiful name like Zoe & naming it Zoie instead is just horrible.

I don't like Joey very much. He's not that funny, his comedy act got old by the 3rd season, & he was just as irritating as Michelle. Even though I found it to be very funny, I got angry at Joey when while he doing some kids show, he accidently punched Stephanie in the nose.

Poor Stephanie Tanner. She was so adorable & very funny on the show (I used to have a crush on her when Full House first aired) & Full House always find ways to humiliate her. Whether its Harry & the wedding, getting teased because of her liking Duckface (Walter), that stupid bitch Gia, Danny Tanner's dumbness, those losers Nikki & Alex, Uncle Joey & his stupid comedy, Uncle Jesse, or Michelle Tanner. Why does Stephanie Tanner have to suffer all the time on Full House? Why can't stuff like this happen to Michelle more often? The only thing I can find humiliating about Michelle is her being called "Wrong Way Tanner." If this was Stephanie in that situation, it would of been a lot worse. I'm shocked that Full House didn't find a way to have a pie thrown at Stephanie's face or her getting slimed.

Stephanie getting constanly humiliated by Michelle (especially in the later seasons) is reminding me of another character that always makes me laugh (even though she's not as popular like Stephanie) and is just as cute & likable as Stephanie. I'm not much of a fan of Small Wonder, but I really like Harriet Brindle. She's always getting humiliated on that show (especially from Jaime), but she always seems to keep a smile on her face like Stephanie.
BondGirl
Stephanie getting constanly humiliated by Michelle (especially in the later seasons)

The final episode, in which Michelle rudely and nastily (and with ZERO provocation) interrupts Stephanie's rehearsal with her male classmate to snark on Stephanie's dry lips and tell the boy that Stephanie has a crush on him is probably Michelle's lowest point. If it were typical "dumb kid not knowing when or how to keep her mouth shut" I could have stood it, but she did that on purpose and for no reason.
queenfrostine

I think you're giving him just a little bit too much credit there.

A reminder of who the actual cute child on Full House was:
Jodie Sweetin's Oscar Mayer commercial. Cuts off a bit at the end, but you get most of it.
She was adorable! How in the world did it become The Michelle Show?!

Bottom line---

Michelle is evil and must be destroyed.

Hee! I got that line from somewhere, and it's often quite appropriate. Also heard (think it was on the E! True Story about FH) that Jodie was expected to be the break-out star child actor, but that (I think) the audience responded more to the Olsen twins.

C'est la vie.

I don't know if this is the origin of "you're evil and you must be destroyed" but Shirley Maclaine's character said it to Olympia Dukakis in Steel Magnolias. It was in one of the saddest and funniest scenes, when Sally Field is losing it after burying her daughter and Olympia tells her to hit Shirley, she will feel better!

On topic, I had the same opinion of the young Jodie that I have of alot of young child stars, that she was too precocious, with the "I'm too cute" thing going on. I liked her better when she got older, and I agree completely with the horrible spelling of zoe....it sounds and looks illiterate. I think the baby is cute, sure enough! I can only hope that the drugs are truly behind Jodie.

Susannah, that's it. Thanks.

I think Jodie is on the TVLand awards this Sunday. (Which they've been advertising for about a year now, it seems. Hmm, come to think of it, TVLand is pretty evil now too and should also be destroyed.)

Yesterday was the Olsen Twins 22nd birthday. I still can't stand them.

Olsen Twins 22nd Birthday

I still don't understand what is so cute & appealing about Michelle. No wonder Full House was so awful to watch after the 4th season.
McKay
I don't like the spelling "Zoie" either, but I wonder if it was a way of incorporating her own name into her daughter's. Jodie, Zoie.
JustADream
Hers is a fairly common way of spelling "Jodie (Jody)," though, so...isn't her husband's name Cody, though? Maybe they were going for names that all end the same.
LollipopGal82
Too bad they didn't have a boy, they could have named him Brody.
sunny605
I work at an ad agency and at a meeting earlier, we were briefly discussing sending something out for jingle-writers. How sad is it that I immediately thought of Jesse and Joey? I don't think a basement operation would have quite cut it, though.
McKay
New photo of Jodie and baby Zoie. And...is that Cool-yay on the far right?! If so, damn
Reny Sue
How sad is it that the girl he's with appears to be Jodie's age or younger. What a disgusting pig of a man.

Very cute baby and Jodie looks really good.

Who was the real "stand-in mom" figure on FH - D.J. or Becky?
boomersmommy
Who was the real "stand-in mom" figure on FH - D.J. or Becky?

I'd say Uncle Jessie, but that's just my opinion.
Reny Sue
For Stephanie, defentitly D.J. Which I find quite sad, though I know its quite a realistic situation to happen.

Michelle, probably Becky. I never got the idea that D.J. and Steph were that close to Michelle. Can't say I blame them, but those two defentitly relied on each other, because the older they got, it was clear that Michelle was the golden child.
Kel Varnsen
I thought he was always Greek, just he was ashamed of his heritage and changed his name from very Greek sounding "Katsopoulus" to a very Anglo sounding "Cochran" - until the VSE in which he decided to embrace his culture. It happened somewhere along the lines of when he gave up bug killing, I think. Of course I could be wrong, my memory for FuLL House details is very fuzzy.

Speaking of this, I have been watching a few episodes with my girlfriend recently and there is something I noticed that is kind of odd. As you mentioned Jesse is of Greek heritage and has dark hair and darker skin like you would expect from someone with that type of background logically his sister would have a similar features. Danny also has dark hair, so how the devil did he end up with 3 blond-haired daughters? Did they ever show pictures of the mom? Or did they ever show the mailman?
tamariskie
They did show the mom in home videos and she was blonde like the girls.
ImEasy
This show can be painfully boring but wholesomely good and I enjoy it sometimes. I never watched growing up but I've always seem to catch a rerun or two. I actually like this type of show like Saved by the Bell too that it's all about sex and idiot teens with so much angst and problems, and blah de blah.
McKay

The whole Jesse having Greek heritage thing was John Stamos's idea in later seasons. Initially I think he was supposed to be sort of an undefined ethnicity, so his having a pale-skinned, blonde sister made a bit more sense.

I can't say I blame Jesse for changing his name. I'd rather be Jesse Cochran than Hermes Katsopolis too.
Miss Modular
If anybody is curious to know what that Macaulay Culkin look-alike looks like now, here it is.

ONTD (Derek from Full House)

That Derek was such a loser & I can't stand him. I really thought that was Macaulay Culkin on that show. I always wonder how Michelle can have such idiots like Derek, Denise, & Teddy as her friends.

He's aged a lot better than Culkin himself has. He's still kind of Dorky-looking, but not in a bad way.

And I'll join in on the Stephanie love. I watched Full House's E! True Hollywood Story, and they all thought that Jodie would be the breakout star of the show because of her professionalism. Instead, Michelle/The Olsen Trolls did, and I've hated them ever since. Had it not been for the trolls' parents getting Robert Thorne, their empire would have never happened.
McKay
The "Uncle Tattletale" episode was on yesterday. It never fails to make me turn purple with rage. Michelle finally gets in trouble for something, but then she runs away and immediately everyone apologizes to her.

Mostly, though, it pisses me off that they never made her apologize to Jesse for messing with his stuff and calling him names. He apologized to her for getting in trouble! God, no wonder the kid was such a brat.
JustADream
Did she get in trouble for running away?

I haven't seen that episiode in a long time, but have a sinking feeling that got pushed under the rug...
Jane M Withers
on the Olsens - why/how did they become popular and how did they manage to build a multi million dollar empire?
McKay
Did she get in trouble for running away?

No. She was gently scolded but mostly hugged and kissed and fawned over because she had worried them so much. (Can't imagine why, if I had a kid like Michelle run away, I wouldn't have looked too hard.)

Near as I can tell, the Olsens built their empire on the gimmick of being twins.

I discovered a Full House recap blog the other day:
http://tannertwister.blogspot.com/
It's entertaining stuff, and the writer doesn't like Michelle any more than we do.
tip and fall
The Tanners had a number of opportunities to ditch Michelle, all of them botched for one reason or another. Lessee...

1. Michelle runs away. Leave her at Teddy's, why dontcha?

2. Michelle gets on an airplane for New Zealand. Let her stay there. (Although this would have required sacrificing Stephanie)

3. Michelle gets amnesia. Let her loose on the streets of San Francisco.

4. Michelle runs away at Disneyworld. Don't look for her, let her stay lost.

So disappointing...
Screamie
Stephanie and DJ at last night's Swing Vote premiere.

On that episode: I can see why Stephanie would mistake Auckland for Oakland with the kid's accent, but wouldn't she be more suspicious of being in a big plane that would be going just over the Bay? She did mention that, yet didn't get off the plane or think it too odd.

I was watching the epiosde in which Gia gets all pissy that Steph and Jamie are going on a date, so Gia shit-stirs with Steph by telling everyone that she "paid Jamie to go out with her". Steph, understandably, retaliated by blowing Gia's horrendous report card up all over the school. Uncle Jesse hears of this, and gets pissed at Steph. I'm sorry, but if Gia was being a bitch to Steph, was Steph just supposed to let her continue this?

On another note, did any of the cast ever reveal why everyone hated Steph so much? I thought she was awesome.
Lillywhite
Stephanie was always my favorite, too. I'm a middle child, so I always understood her. One of my favorite episodes is from the early seasons when Stephanie marries her best friend and tries to move out because DJ and Michelle always got all the attention. And even though it was addressed in this episode the problem continued. The only person who ever paid any attention to her was DJ, who usually just called her annoying and tried to get rid of her.

Season 1 has always been my favorite because I found the relationship between Stephanie and Uncle Jesse so darling. Then Michelle started talking and it all went to hell. But Stephanie was always the funniest and most clever.
blobbygirl

Oh, the "Human Pudding"! Stephanie was in her most unfortunate-looking phase here, but she could still get the guys!

He's not really pissed, he just sees that what she thought would be great revenge made her feel guilty to see Gia crying.

My sister and I shared a relationship similar to D.J. and Stephanie. She was the older, wannabe sophiscated one, and I was the little sister wanting to be just like her.

I like the 80's references from the old episodes. I remember Stephanie saying something about Alvin from Alvin and the Chipmunks looking like Don Johnson.
agsquared

That was the episode in season 1 where Uncle Jesse took off to get a "life". D.J. tries to distract Stephanie and asks her who her favorite chipmunk is, and she answers with the truly awesome "everyone knows without Alvin, they're just a bunch of squirrels dressed like Don Johnson."
Limbonaut
I'm really looking forward to the Bob Saget roast on Comedy Central tomorrow hosted by John Stamos and featuring most of the Full House cast. The Olson Twins weren't there because they're too big and Candace didn't. I guess because she's too pure.
jcpdiesel21
Bob Saget's roast will actually not air until next Sunday, August 17th. I've never found Bob Saget to be funny, but then again, I've never seen his stand-up, so I'll definitely be watching out of sheer curiosity.
tip and fall

I don't think anyone hated her. From what I saw, she just suffered from classic Middle Child Syndrome.

If the family had only offed Michelle, Steph could have gone back to being adored younger child. Then again, maybe she would have turned into the spoiled brat that Michelle did.
harvestbasket
I agree that Steph suffered from middle child syndrome. I cannot believe I agree with Dave Coulier, but I thought Jodi not the Olsen twins would be the break out star of the show. Michelle annoyed me so much, but at least we got to know Teddy. He made those Michelle scenes tolerable for me.
LollipopGal82
I thought Jodi not the Olsen twins would be the break out star of the show.

That was supposed to be the original "intention" of the show before stupid America decided to fall in love with stupid Michelle and the stupid Olsens instead and the show started centering everything around them.
