What drives me nuts is if you see current pics of Candace Cameron-Burre (or whatever) she is SUPER skinny and she talks about how she was "bigger" as a child or had a bunch of baby fat. I never thought DJ ever needed to lose weight. I actually thought she looked very NORMAL. Andrea Barber seemed naturally thin, as did Jodie Sweetin, so maybe next to them she felt big?

I don't think she ever needed to lose weight.

Agreed. I always thought as a kid (and still do) that DJ was your average kid, and Kimmy and Stephanie were skinnier than normal. The only thing that could possibly have made her look "chubby" was her round face, which is a pretty crappy way to decide if someone's fat or not.
candynecklace
In later years, Michelle could have murdered the neighbors and worn their faces as Halloween masks and all the guys would have laughed and said how cute "their little munchkin"....

Hee! Michelle & Michael Myers. Has a nice ring to it.

I hated when Candace cut her pretty long hair and went short. IMO, the new hairstyle did nothing for her-it was just blah and made her look, well, blah!
SadPanda
I concur with everyone about DJ/Candace's weight. I never thought she was fat, even when I watch the repeats, I always saw her at a normal weight.
Shell76
I know I have that E! Full House special on tape somewhere, and I remember Candace talking about her weight issues. The "DJ goes on a crash diet" episode was from Season 4(?) but from the clips shown in the special, it sounded like her weight wasn't an issue until Season 6. That's when she started wearing the bodysuits and other non-flattering clothing. That was also around the time they brought Steve into the picture and Candace was really nervous about having this "hot guy" as her boyfriend. I think she said the producers were concerned about her weight, but didn't push her into dieting because of the Tracey Gold issue. Good for Candace, though, I thought she looked fine the entire run of the show.

Pretty and normal and healthy looking. It was nice to see a girl that didn't look anorexic. Kimmy was too thin and IMO that isn't a healthy look, though it's what everyone on tv wants to be. The one thing they didn't say on that episode, about DJ's diet, since she was so bummed about not looking like the models in the mags, is that the models weren't 12 or whatever age DJ was. They didn't say anything about bodies changing as they mature, and that she looked just right for her age. Instead they focused only on her personality, etc, which is logical from an adult point of view, but it would have been nice if they had sent that message to all the girls watching, that they look just right, just as they are.
SadPanda
Exactly. We need more 'DJ Tanner" girls in sitcoms.
Sweetxcape
Was that the same episode where Uncle Jesse gave DJ the "Ugly Duckling" very special speech, which ended up making things worse instead of better, until Aunt Becky came to the rescue. LOL.

I like the shorter hair on DJ, but agree that her stylist(s) should have been fired and never allowed to dress anyone ever again. She had some truly figure un-flattering clothes. Stephanie also had some odd clothing choices. Her head also all of a sudden became to tiny for her body, or did her neck disapeer - there was just something funky about her body shape or body to head ratio that I could never figure out, and I know she looked better with the fluffier hair and bangs she had when she was younger (rather than that super duper straight look).
blondie69
Stephanie was always my favorite. I think for the fact that we share a name.

Looking back, this show was so bad and I'm rather embarrassed that i watched it and was such a fan.
SadPanda

It's so bad it's cheesy. They had way too many 'Locked/Stranded/Stuck-in-whatever' episodes. And waaaaaaaaay too many Michelle themed episodes (Where in the end, things go her way)
Nofret
I agree that DJ never appeared to me to have a "weight problem". She was a little chubby, but so are a lot of kids that age.

A thing that always really bothered me about the "DJ's weight" issue was the fact that her opening credit shot for one of the seasons (I forget which) showed DJ spinning. It was so unnecessary and it seemed like the producer's way of saying "We know she's been chubby, but look! We're working on it!". I always felt that the opening shots were supposed to define the characters in some way, and I think they'd usually done that pretty well with DJ: She would usually be doing typical teenager things like talking on the phone, polishing nails or showing off a new sweater. But spinning? Apart from the crash diet episode I never saw that as a major part of DJ's personality, and it really annoyed me that they would emphasize it like that.

I definitely agree with this: It was great to see a normal-looking kid on a sit-com. And while I agree that they could have addressed this more directly in the diet episode, I actually also liked how for most of the time, they didn't make a big deal out of it. DJ wasn't overly gorgeous, and she was chubby, but she was never made out to be the chubby/geeky girl in class because of it: She was portrayed as a normal tween/teenager, and even a quite popular girl who would have boys crushing on her and who would be social and outgoing. I liked that, and I think they should have embraced that, rather than focused on making CC lose weight.

As for her hairstyle, I actually liked her short hair, too. I think it looked more stylish on her and suited her face well. For Stephanie I always thought it was a little strange how her hair went from slightly curly to super curly and then to super straight from one season to the next. Not sure what I prefer on her, but I thought her short bang and long hair in the last season looked incredibly awkward on her.

Heh. As a lot of you have said; I'm giving this show waaay too much thought. :D
Charlotte

I'm pretty sure they were curling her hair for the first few seasons.
Shell76
I agree on Stephanie's hair. It looks like it was curled in Season 1 and then had it permed for Seasons 2 and 3. I also agree that her long, straight hair in Season 8 made her look awkward. The show ended while Jodie was in the midst of her awkward teen phase, and the long hair did nothing for her boxy figure. I also liked DJ's short hair better, it really complemented her figure. And since I'm on the topic of hair, I don't have much to say about Michelle's hair except I think the Olsen twins started having their hair lightened from Season 3 onward - it looked too reddish to go platinum blonde naturally. Not sure if this was to match the twins differing hair colors or to make them blonder to match their TV sisters.

It's always fun for me to analyze the characters hair styles. Having grown up with the show during its initial run, I always got excited when a new season started to see how the characters changed from the previous season.
Cypher21
I was watching one of the repeats on ABC Family the other day, it was the one where DJ made the comment about fantasizing about Fred Savage. Does anyone else think to the tv movie where Fred Savage plays the abusive and killer boyfriend of Candice Cameron? When she said that line I just yelled out but he will abuse you and kill you DJ.
Shell76
LOL, I have heard about this movie, but I must have missed it when it aired. I can't imagine Fred Savage as a killer - he was my tween crush and seemed too cutesy for that kind of role. But I did see the mid-90's movie where DJ plays a girl who is being visited by aliens. She was either being studied by aliens or was part alien herself. I remember a scene where she is drawing circles on paper using both hands at the same time....it was creepy enough to burn its image in my mind.
blobbygirl
She was also raped by Zack from SBTB. Poor DJ.
CallieRainbow

Speaking of this, didn't they dye Becky's hair in later episodes to match her and Jesse's twins hair? It always look so fake and just not a good color on her at all...but that must have been why she went that shade.
But on the topic of haid, you can't get much worse than Joey's mullet and Jesse's mullet from the first season...WOW!
LollipopGal82

Ugh, I know. It was starting with season six, all of a sudden her hair is bright orangey-red. So not cool. Even creepier is in season seven, when it's a nicer subdued reddish-brown in the beginning of the year, and by season's end it's almost as black as Jesse's hair. What was that all about?

Why do I know these things?
Big House Red
Gah! Was just watching my Season Two DVDs, and I caught the teaser to the episode where they go to Lake Tahoe. Michelle crawls around pretending to be a dog, then declares that Daddy is the dog. So what does Danny do? Crawl around on his hands and knees and fetches a "treat" little 2 year old Michelle throws. Twice. Could have been somewhat cute (I guess) if it wasn't foreshadowing to the Michelle-as-boss dynamic that would become so strongly established in later seasons. All in all, a little frightening.
CallieRainbow

Perhaps Michelle is an alien that descended into that family and brain-washed them all to do her terrible, horrible bidding?!?

Makes more sense than that she is just a spoiled little brat who got her way all the freakin' time! I hate the later seasons because of the above mentioned dynamic.
candynecklace

LMAO! I'll subscribe to that theory.

Not that it's been on lately, but I was just wondering....

Was Kirk Cameron that big a teen star at the time of his guest appearance on FH? When he came on stage, all the 'tweenies screamed maniacally. (Can you tell I didn't watch whatever his show was?) Also, didn't one of the guest child actors commit suicide? How sad!

We need (well, not really) a "Full House Reunion" movie.
blobbygirl
I think it was Jonathan Brandis, wasn't it?
Amy340
Kirk Cameron was one of THE teen stars at the time of his FH guest appearance, one of the biggest. Candace later returned the favor and guest starred on Growing Pains.

It was Jonathan Brandis who was the guest star and who committed suicide later on. He was DJ's boyfriend in the season 2 episode where he dumps her for Kathy Santoni, because DJ wasn't pretty enough. This leads to DJ and Becky having the "ugly duckling" talk. It was the same episode as the bachelor auction.
ghys
Doesn't Kathy Santoni end up pregnant?
Nofret
Doesn't Kathy Santoni end up pregnant?

She does! DJ and Kimmie mention that they're attending her baby shower at some point. Danny overhears this and then freaks out later in that episode because DJ [gasp!] falls asleep while watching a movie at Steve's place!! And Steve is sitting right next to her on the couch!!! For SHAME!
blobbygirl
I always hoped he would be seeing DJ and Steve having wild sex when he peeked through the window.
CallieRainbow

If you were to believe, by Danny's facial expressions alone--then he most certainly did see them having wild passionate sex!
I mean, the guys eyes nearly bulged out of his head when he peeked through that window and saw them, fully clothed, sleeping (and this was before he fell out of the chair)!

BWAH! And sort of along the same lines...

Remember the episode when DJ went to the drive-in with the wild guy who DID want to have sex? I hated how stupid Danny, Jesse, and Joey acted by bursting into the van. Good grief. Why is it that none of them seemed to trust her? The kid had her head screwed on pretty well, was a good student, and had decent values. The way the guys acted/treated her sometime, you'd have thought she was a wild delinquent knife-wielding druggie.

Well, "FH" had to get the "moral lesson of the day" in every episode, I suppose.
BondGirl
I hated that too.

I know it's a sitcom staple that dad's and father figures are supposed to be overprotective of their daughters (and in real life too, obviously), but in real life, that level of overprotectiveness and controlling of his daughter and her dating life would be a red flag about abuse.
Cypher21
Didn't Candice do a guest spot on Growing Pains pre-FH which led to her getting noticed for the FH gig?

The biggest thing I noticed on FH was that LL looked much older on FH than she does now. Comparing her from the last few seasons of FH to her show Summerland it's like it's her younger sister or something. I don't think i've ever seen anything like that in all of tv-landom where an actress goes from old to young w/o cosmetic surgery taking place.
tip and fall
Really? I thought that Lori looked a lot younger on FH, if only because her skin wasn't so tanned to the point of being leathery, especially in the face.
Cypher21
Well yeah, the skin differences aside, I always thought Summerland-Lori looked to be in her late 20's early 30's and last two seasons FH-Lori looked to be mid/late 30's.
LollipopGal82
Jodie's a mommy.

Zoie? Eh.

I saw the Yankee Doodle episode, only to be reminded just how much of a brat Michelle is.
blobbygirl
And she wasn't even that good. Also, nepotism much?
McKay
That bugged me a lot - she couldn't carry a tune, and there's no way anyone could have heard her singing! I was glad to see the little shit not get her way for once, but it pissed me off that Danny got angry at them for not giving her what she wanted.
tip and fall
Anybody remember the seventh season episode (I think) where Vicki decides to cook a meal for the Tanners, and Danny has to coax the kids into pretending that they like it? I just rewatched it and -- like it hasn't been said enough before -- man, the Tanner children are awful. Especially DJ, who's supposed to be sixteen or seventeen years old. My eyebrows went up when she actually asked, "Is the pizza supposed to smell like that?" My parents would have had a cow if I ever dared to say something like that to someone who went to the trouble of cooking me dinner. And they would most definitely not bribe me with money.

Also, the Tanners were woefully…what's the word? They weren't very worldly. There was one episode after Danny broke up with Vicki, and he decided to make the family have dinner while sitting on the floor, using chopsticks, and eating sushi. The kids acted like it was the weirdest thing they'd ever heard. But doesn't the family live in San Fran-freaking-cisco? You know, with a high Asian population, and plenty of Asian restaurants? (Danny actually went on a date to a dim sum place in a previous episode.) You're telling me that the kids have absolutely no experience with Japanese food, or the Asian dining experience?
Videostar
The "Sid the bird" episode was on this morning, and it reminded me how much I hate Michelle. And Danny for letting her make such a big decision for the whole family.
LollipopGal82
That and the "moving" episode at the end of that same season are the two examples I always cite when exclaiming, "Why do they give her so much power?!!!?!!"
wah4us
I can't believe how little the sense of humor is for the family in the Joey dates a comic episode. Or perhaps I can? They really need to get over themselves and loosen up. (and I speak as if they are real, so perhaps I am the one who needs a reality check!)
Magog
If anybody is curious to know what that Macaulay Culkin look-alike looks like now, here it is.

ONTD (Derek from Full House)

That Derek was such a loser & I can't stand him. I really thought that was Macaulay Culkin on that show. I always wonder how Michelle can have such idiots like Derek, Denise, & Teddy as her friends.

At least Stephanie's friends (except for Gia) were funny & very likable. It just sucks that Stephanie didn't have either Harry or Duckface (Walter) as her boyfriend.
blobbygirl

Because she is an idiot herself?

Honestly, I don't really think he friends were that bad. Too perky at times, yes, but not bad people.
susannah2000
The one of Michelle's friends I hated was the little serial killer one...the totally bratty one. I wanted someone to step on him from the first minute in nursery school! The friend I liked was lisa, the little redheaded girl, who also could sing but wasn't such a "star" about it, and seemed most like a real kid, bringing the plastic wrap, the "shrinkwrap!" and the ice.."well it worked on the lump on my brother's head whe ran into my fist..." when Michelle thought her feet were too big. of course everybody had to make a big deal out of it instead of just using common sense and telling her that different parts grow at different times but it all evens out..
McKay

Because only an idiot would be friends with Michelle?

Was flipping through the channels and saw FH so decided to keep it on. (Hush, I loved it when I was a kid.)

The Superbowl episode was on, where Jesse and Joey promised to take Michelle and her little groupies to the science museum. I really don't know who came over worse in that show: Joey or Michelle. On one hand, you have selfish Joey who completely disregards a promise and them almost messes up his...what is DJ to him? friends' daughter?...anyway, her college scholarship interview just because he needed to watch all eleventy million hours of the game. Besides, didn't DJ say that Jesse was taping it for her so she could watch her dad and Becky later? Why couldn't Joey watch that? Internet wasn't common in the early 90's (was it?), and just don't watch the news until you watch the game. Duh.

But then Michelle said "And tonight, I hope you'll think about our little talk" or whatever, and then it all went to hell. Little brat. *angry smiley*
MalibuGirl
So, I was watching a Full House rerun on ABC Family earlier today and needed to share my experience -- I actually laughed out loud while watching the episode. I mean, actually laughed at one of the jokes on the show! I didn't think that was possible at this point. But it was a first season ep, and I think those in general were actually much funnier than the later seasons. Anyway, it's the episode where Stephanie doesn't want to go to school. The scene takes place after Joey and Jesse give Michelle a bath, and Jesse is describing when he first saw Elvis on tv. He starts singing Love Me Tender to Joey, and then Danny walks in, and his face is actually pretty hilarious. The next couple of lines I'll copy and paste:

Danny: Oh my god!
Jesse: What! We were just giving the kid a bath!
D: Then why isn't she in the tub?
J: Because Joey's in the tub, and I'm in the tub, and there's not enough room for, you know all of us!
D: It's obvious, I...I really am intruding. I'm going to go and put Michelle in her crib, I'm going to check on my other girls, and just leave you two sailors to your suds and singing.

And then Jesse continues singing to Joey while staring into his eyes. It was an actual funny scene...it was all in the delivery. It reminds me that there was a point when this show was pretty entertaining.
JustADream
And then it all went to rated G, first grade humor that half of the time wasn't funny

Anyone else recognize the actress who played Denise on FH as the chick with the brain tumor (1/2 the young couple) on the season finale of Grey's Anatomy? Just me?

I am ashamed to admit I immediately recognized her, and she sounded the same to me.
Faz
I never really gave too much thought to the various absurdities of this show. But the other day, I caught an episode where Joey won two tickets to the Counting Crows, and gave them to DJ and Stephanie. Who, at this time, are in their mid to late teens.

Michele gets jealous, Danny makes the three of them draw straws, and DJ ends up having to take Michele. Who is 8. To a rock concert. Both of the older girls actually point out how retarded it is to take a small child to a rock concert, indicating to me that the writers were at least sober while penning this episode. But Danny's just like, "Sorry. The word of the short straw is bond. Make sure she doesn't get kidnapped or a contact high or something."

I'm only paraphrasing a little bit.

It was really the first time I found Danny Tanner to not just be a little dim, but clinically bat shit insane. They really stopped trying by that point, I guess. Like, "we let manatees push balls with random words together, and then that's our script" lazy. Just thought I'd share.
blobbygirl
And the brat didn't even know who the Counting Crows were!
