Regarding Michelle's science project, I'm always annoyed that none of Danny's pearls of wisdom included: "Well, honey, perhaps you should have thought better than to leave your project lying around on the floor with the bedroom door open when there are two toddlers and a dog running around the house." 'Cause ... duh, Michelle.

Seriously. Even toddlers who are properly disciplined are going to get into mischief if something new, brightly-colored and breakable is in their paths.
Danny might want to consider how he never scolded Michelle for all the bratty shit she did at that age, too. Like the pool in the kitchen or the destruction of the wedding cake samples...

Well, the pool in the kitchen was the one time he did actually force her to go to her room and sit in the corner. She didn't even get to watch "Aresnios" that night. Granted, he didn't actively scold her in the sense that he still called her his little princess, but he didn't let that one slide.
And I kind of always wondered if the cake sample bit was a blooper that they just left in. Not that the Olsen jumped without provocation, but that maybe they were all laughing too hard (because the laughs seemed genuine) and the scene couldn't be finished or else the people in charge just thought it was more fun that way. I'm not saying she'd be punished. Just a thought.

Woah, I need details. What did she do? Put a kiddie pool in the kitchen?
McKay
Sep 9, 2007 @ 11:14 pm
Yeah, she dragged a kiddie pool into the kitchen and filled it. DJ and Stephanie got blamed for it, just like every other bratty thing Michelle did in that episode. Danny "punished" her in that one by sending her to her room for a little while and then cooing over her and calling her his "little princess" during said "punishment."

Yeah, I saw the print version on the newstand this morning! I always love the detail in those Onion articles! The episode I would try to catch if I knew it was on would be the one where Scott Baio guest-stars as Jesse's old friend who ribs him for not being as wild as his younger days. So Jesse tries to do his old stunt of riding his motorcycle on the edge of the roof of a parking garage.

I got the chance to meet Dave Coulier at a comedy club in Dearborn, MI. He tried to have a drink sent to my table and I about died from shock. I spent the latter part of my teens watching Full House and it disgusted me that the man who played the sweet, guileless Uncle Joey was trying to buy me liquor, presumably to get me to "loosen up". It has kind of soured me on him, but I still love to watch reruns of the show on Nick at Nite. Only sometimes, though. I do not tape it or anything weird like that.

You are so right about that. I saw his act thinking that he would be exactly like Joey, but he was not. He was not funny at all. He did not even do the bit with the chipmunk puppet. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. It was a rude awakening that actors are totally different from their characters. I was so young, though. I had a lot to learn about the world.

Just got back from Disney World. Saw all kinds of characters and all kinds of parades. I was with adult friends (all in our 20s) and I turned to my friend at one point and said "this is right where stupid Michelle got to be princess for a day..." and she finished with ".. when it should have been STEPHANIE!" (keep in mind we never watched this show together) and then we both said "BITCH!"
Grrr, stupid Michelle making me irritated at the happiest place on Earth.

YourDensity, I laughed out loud. It's amazing how many people hated Michelle.
Speaking of, I saw what may be the only episode where she's punished the other day, the "Uncle Tattletale" episode. Ugh, little brat. Regardless, I was glad to see that I remembered the ending wrong - Uncle Jesse doesn't actually apologize for getting her in trouble. He says he felt bad about having to get her in trouble, but he couldn't let her get away with misbehaving either.

I never thought it possible to hate a fictional three year old child but Michelle Tanner proves me wrong time and time again. I really resent the way Danny lets that little witch get away with murder while Stephanie and DJ get read the riot act! I also resent the way she runs roughshod over Uncle Joey and Uncle Jesse and they never call her on her behaviour - except for the time Uncle Jesse ratted her out, as is mentioned above.
I think the way Michelle was written was really irresponsible in the sense that her character probably gave little girls everywhere a license to be whiny little princess brats! I know this behaviour well. I probably have more little cousins than I can count on both hands that take a page from Michelle's book.
McKay
Oct 15, 2007 @ 3:21 pm
I wonder if Michelle was the first primetime sitcom child to give the message that being a bratty little princess is "cute." It's certainly a staple of sitcoms now - the obnoxious, precocious child is doted on and spoiled. It drives me nuts. If any of my cousins' kids behaved that way, they would be sent to a time-out before they could blink. Of course, they're generally good kids to begin with. Because, you know, their parents bother to parent them...

I haven't seen the newer ones in awhile. Were Jesse's kids just as bratty, if not more?

I don't know if they were bratty per se, just annoying as two- and three-year-olds tend to be. Always into stuff and all that. (I also thought they were kind of dumb for their age, but that's another story.) I think Michelle's brattiness stems from the constant attention and ass-kissing she got from the adults. Nicky and Alex didn't get that--Jesse paid more attention to Michelle than he did them!

I just saw Candace in a magazine about how she struggled with her weight while on the show and how even after having three kids, she actually weighs less than she did then. They had a picture of her and she was looking damn good!
I used to think the Olsen twins were attractive (forgive me please!), but not anymore compared to Candace and Jodie.
I used to watch this show every Friday night, but now when it is on in reruns, I can't even make it through an entire episode. It's so cheesy and corny in a bad way.

If you are ever at Joey's Comedy Club in Dearborn, MI (holla!), do not ever let David Coulier buy you spirits. He only uses them to "butter you up" so he can take advantage of you. the "Uncle Tattletale"
So much hate. If I'd ever called my uncle - or any other adult relative - names, my parents would have delivered a few firm smacks to my backside.
Jesse paid more attention to Michelle than he did them!
In the episode in which she was treating them as servants, making them fetch this and that for her, I believe the adults - including Jesse - barely came down on her for that. They gave her some cheesy lecture and that was that.
I absolutely hated when the adults tiptoed around that little shit. Like when she threw a hissy fit before the twins were born because she wanted to be the youngest forever. The adults wrung their hands, and fretted, and oh no, poor Michelle, she's scarred for life, what do we do. Get real, you shitheads! I hated that they kowtowed to her and assured her she was still the most special and perfect person on the face of the earth. Something tells me Danny never did that with D.J. when Stephanie was born, or with Stephanie when Michelle was born. Nope, it's All. About. Michelle.

Not that this show was good with continuity, but maybe Jesse changed his name again. In Season 5, we learned that Jesse's real name is Hermes and that he begged his mom to change his name to Jesse after being teased in school. However, this show is not good with contuinity.
I bought the DVD's recently, and just like everyone else I never knew how much I liked Stephanie and Kimmi. I have to admit Michelle was my favorite because I was around the same age as her when I was a fan of the show. Now Watching the show over at 20, Stephanie was great and Jodie sweetin is a great actress, and Kimmi is not as annoying as I thought she was. also, I wish the writers explained why Danny and Joey's girlfriend would disapear, Like what happened to Rusty and his mom, or that girl Joey wanted to marry after just one date?.

Family Matters and
Full House? When I was in elementary school I thought it was funny, but now at 22 I cringe at the way the guys treat her.
Poor Steph. Old enough to remember she had a mother but too young to really
remember her. With Danny and her "uncles" doting on Michelle and DJ with Steve and/or Kimmi, no wonder Steph hung out with the "bad crowd" of Gina and almost getting into car wrecks. Now it seems like Steph is ignored until something goes wrong. Am I miss-remembering something, or is this how the whole show was like?

I have to agree that the men of the house were kind of mean to the Gibbler. However, I think the worst Kimmy Gibbler moment is the episode where the guys imagine what it would be like if the girls still lived when them when they were older and were still waiting on them hand and foot. At the end of the sequence, the older Kimmy Gibbler walks in and the guys thinks she's hot. When the fantasy sequence is done, Joey says "I've gotta be nicer to Kimmy Gibbler" or something like that.
I guess I didn't pick up on it when I was a kid, but now, I find the whole thing all kinds of creepy. I find the whole Joey character really creepy actually.

I definitely agree. I didn't pick up on that as a kid either, but watching it now it's just all kinds of skeevy. Especially considering that other dream sequence that Jesse had later on, in which he
dreamt that Kimmy was his fiancée!! Granted, it was supposed to be a nightmarish vision, but I still think it's so, so wrong. It's this combined demonization-and-sexualization on the grown up men's part of one of DJ's friend that gets to me, even if I could accept their constant picking on her as an innocent sit-com shtick.

I always thought Stephanie and Joey were a team, Jessie was always with Michelle and Danny and DJ were always matched up, but Joey and Steph had some good episodes together doing "caper-y" type things and trading one liners back and forth. Steph only had one Jessie episode where her friend Charles was beaten by his dad and Stephanie confided in him, but other than that she never had any scenes with him alone. Steph's best scenes by far though, were with Kimmy Gibbler, they were well suited to act opposite of each other, I wouldn't mind a sitcom with the two of them, I bet they both could be very funny.

Everyone was horrible to Kimmi.
Her "surprise" 16th birthday party really pissed me off. Ketchup squirted over hash browns? Toilet paper decorations? Are you fucking kidding me? They live in San Francisco, for god's sake, one of the best culinary cities on the planet. There is no shortage of late night bakeries, restaurants, or even grocery stores. In the time it took them to do their idiotic decorations and prepare that ketchup mess, one of the adults could have zipped to a nearby restaurant and grabbed some take out meals, and one adult could have gone to a nearby grocery store and grabbed a cake or cupcakes as well as a few real decorations. Then while a few of them entertained Kimmy in the living room, a couple of them could have quickly set up the kitchen and laid out the food. (No, I haven't thought about this at all, why do you ask?) But noooo, they chose to be lazy, insensitive assholes and make a fool out of Kimmy.

I remember when I firsted watched this show, I thought that kind of thing was funny. Why? Because I was 6 or 7 years old and I thought it was the Michelle show, and I thought the show was only about her, and she was the coolest kid ever. (That was over 11 years ok?) But when I rewatched this show a few years later, I was thinking, what the hell is wrong with the majority of the cast. I think Gibbler is one of the best characters on the show and they treated her horribly just because. The only thing that I remember her doing anything that was extremely stupid and potentially dangerous was when she pierced Stephanie's ears. And that which should have been called on to her, was never ever mentionned to her.
(yes, that's what my sisters and I called it, when it came on TV we said Michelle was on. I didn't even know it was called Full House until a few years later, and yes I know it said it in the title credits but I still didn't know how to read in English at that age.)

I can totally get where you got that from. I remember the days before it was all about the Olsen twins, and them getting top billing. There were episodes where any of the girls were featured at all in early season one and two. Looking back at it now, as painful as the punchlines and plots are, it is really nice that the writers ditched the kids for an episode or two to focus on the guys; as lame as they were. Then when it became the girl-centric (which was better than the "adult" guy-centric) episodes to the "Michelle Show" is really when I started hating the show and I was in the demographic (elementary school) for the "Full House" TGIF experience.

I've spent the past 3 days reading about 100 pages of this thread (get a life, I know). I'm watching FH as I write this for the first time in about 12 years. It's interesting watching it with a snarky perspective and not that of an 11-year-old who thought it was the coolest show ever.
