Well, last night's "We Love Children" marathon kind of turned into a Michelle marathon for awhile. And wasn't Stephanie always dancing to that song-what was it, "Love Shack"?
snaggle
Speaking of Stephanie dancing...today the infamous Tommy Page episode was on. During the party Steph & all of the party guests spontaneously danced a choreographed routine to Marky Mark & the Funky Bunches "Good Vibrations".

p.s.

Even though the 2 songs are completley different, I just want to state that that is also a name of a Beach Boys song. And we all know that they were worshipped on FH.

God, I always hated that. I mean, if they wanted to show off Jodie Sweetin's dancing talents, then by all means, but who on earth do a choreographed dance number spontaneously?? And what are the odds of a whole class of 4th graders being skilled dancers? So unnecessary.

The episode, on the whole, was always ok to me, though. I always did like the Stephanie-centric ones.

...Even if I always thought it was totally inappropriate that Tommy Page would kiss a 15-year-old girl (DJ) on the lips, then claim that he meant it as a friendly gesture. What was up with that?

Hello! I saw it yesterday and was thinking the same damn thing. He was weird.

It always irks me how, at the end, Stephanie turns on the God-awful song and smiles while she listens to it. I love Steph, but that was just so annoying. Who smiles the whole time a song is playing? Gah.
Drew T.
Whoa, does Tommy actually kiss her on the lips? I always thought it was the cheek.

These were the same girls from Stephanie's dance class, from the episode "Gotta Dance" where she purposely botched the Motownphilly routine.
Goldwood
Jodie Sweetin herself has dancing talent? It wasn't just something she picked up for the sake of the show? Go figure.

The Tommy Page episode was one of the dumbest, sappiest episodes of the series. I hated it. Although I did like watching that dance routine number.
Zelle999
I'm sorry, but the drivel that was on yesterday with the freakin' chimpanzee, was some of the most horrible television I've ever seen. Wow. Bringing a chimpanzee onto ANY tv sitcom, should really be its death knell.
Nofret
Whoa, does Tommy actually kiss her on the lips? I always thought it was the cheek.

I'm 95% sure that he kissed her on the lips. Very briefly and chastely (more like a peck), but on the lips nevertheless. I seem to recall her confirming as much in her conversation with Kimmie later on... But then again, I haven't watched these episodes since I was a kid, so I could very well be wrong. :)

Jodie Sweetin herself has dancing talent? It wasn't just something she picked up for the sake of the show?

No idea. Since they had her dancing in lots of episodes right from the start, I just always figured it was the other way around: You know - Jodie Sweetin liked to dance, so they decided to make use of it on the show, that kind of thing. But I honestly don't know.
RainIsBeautiful
DJ got lips, Stephanie got cheek. How much do you want to bet DJ had a mysterious cold sore a few weeks later? ;)
Drew T.
Aw, c'mon people, don't diss the monkey! I liked it. The monkey smacking Jesse's ass was hilarious, and fairly risque for the show, if you consider the way Jesse was reacting to it.

If only we could have had a VSE about that!

I think she did like to dance in real life and that's why they had her do those things on the show. In addition to Motownphilly and the "spontaneous" party dance routine, there was that episode where they were trying to teach Jesse to dance for one of his videos and Stephanie started showing off by demonstrating the dance for Jesse and Rebecca. I figured it was one of those "let's showcase Jodie's dancing skillz" type moments.

I absolutely cringe whenever I see the Tommy Page episode. He looked like a deer in headlights and his voice was so monotone and dull. That might just be the worst acting I've ever seen in my life. Well, other than Nancy Kerrigan when she did SNL.
Goldwood

That was one of my favorite Full House scenes. Jesse looking like a total goofball and ending by doing the splits...after which he calls out..."Becky, ICE!"

I recall Rebecca showed up her husband by also spontaneously dancing along with Stephanie.

I loved the monkey episode today too! The scene where Jesse thinks the monkey is Becky still makes me laugh. That may just be because I love monkeys, but I thought this episode was cute. Plus, the monkey took time away from Michelle, which can never be bad.
sjbrown25
Come on, it's funny: The monkey spanking his Jesse? Humor!
WackieJackie
Definitely! It also made me laugh because I always felt like Joey would be more of a monkey's type.
RainIsBeautiful
The monkey spanking his Jesse?

The opposite of that would be the Best. VSE. Ever.

Oh, wait...Roseanne already did that. :/ ;)

i smiled at the comment about "'80s fashion" - at the time it would have been popular but for whatever reason later decades like to pretend it wasn't and/or is "bad"
Zelle999
Of course it was popular back then. I am not disputing that. I had the crimped hair and big bangs and leggings, etc. as did many, many other girls my age. But it doesn't make it any less cringeworthy in hindsight. And I'm not "pretending" it was bad. It WAS bad.
Molly Dolly
I did too - i just found it funnny that we like to bash past fashions etc so much

You know that outfit that D.J. wore to her first day of junior high, the one that the cafeteria lady was also wearing? I had that same outfit. The vest, the shirt underneath, the baggy pants...I thought I was the SHIT when I wore that.
dc chick
I thought I was the SHIT when I wore that

You were! As was I when I wore it :)
Charlotte
I think some of the clothes the Full House girls wore were from Sears, because in the '80s my mom bought most of my clothes from there and I had a few of the same outfits that D.J. and Stephanie had.
skittl3862
There's a marathon on Nick at Nite on now. It's when Michelle is 3- i.e. the epitome of her grating "cuteness". Whose idea was it that the Olsen twins were worthy of all the screentime they were given?
Brn2bwild
Something very wrong just happened -- I watched an episode in which I almost liked Michelle. It was the one where she and Becky build the street racing car and that obnoxious kid kept deriding Michelle for being a "dumb girl." I think it was just her juxtaposition against a kid even more annoying than she that temporarily blinded me to her many faults. That said, I don't buy the ending at all, that the judges would count her rose as the "front" of her car.
Hanna-Reetta
Re: Michelle being spoiled. Remember the episode "Shape Up" (where DJ tried to diet and ended up learning a very special lesson about eating disorders..)? Jesse brings home a bunch of samples of chocolate cake from the bakery, for his and Rebecca's wedding cake. What does Michelle do? Jump ON THE TABLE and scarf down all the pieces of cake! And what do the grown-ups do? Laugh.

My Mom would have grabbed me and given me a very serious lecture about being greedy and selfish. Michelle ruined the cake samples, plus she ate everyone else's share. Understandable behaviour from a child? Yes. Acceptable? No way.
sjbrown25
Seriously.

Spoiled kids aren't born, they're made. And boy did those so-called adults make Michelle a spoiled brat.
McKay

That pisses me off so very much. So much so that I can't watch the episode. To me, it's another "Michelle gets what she wants JUST BECAUSE" moment, even though that's not entirely fair.

I wouldn't even go so far as to call it "understandable" behavior. At that age, I knew enough not to grab food that wasn't mine. But, yeah, I can see how an otherwise well-behaved kid might weaken in the face of cake. However, the way the adults reacted was revolting. They always encouraged stuff like that - they laughed when she took everyone's pancakes and told Danny he'd "better make more," there was no punishment coming for stealing and eating Stephanie's cupcake, etc. What a weird and annoying pattern.
sjbrown25
It truly is annoying. That cake thing was in fact ridiculous. I'm trying to imagine what my mother and other relatives would do if a 4-year-old in my family did that. I think, at best, they would have pulled her off with a stern, but kind, "Hey, hey, don't do that, that's not right. You can't climb on the table like that. We have to share the cake, it's not all for you." A four-year-old can understand that, right? But it's quite disturbing that these people just stand there and laugh--it is funny, yes, if you imagine yourself in the moment, and you'd probably laugh at first, but the behavior is in fact rude and you shouldn't encourage the child to do it by just letting her go on.
Drew T.
I always thought that the adults laughing at Michelle for doing that was actually the actors laughing at one of the Olsens rolling around in cake and looking like a goof. But if that's true, the fact that they left it in does send a bad message about what they'll accept from Michelle.
Something Epic
I am so happy I'm not the only one who hates Michelle. She just grates on my nerves. Stephanie was always my favourite and I fucking hated the Disney World episode. She did not deserve to be crowned Princess. Even if Stephanie went after her she should've been crowned because Michelle kept rubbing the stupid ass lamp. Then running off? BITCH!

I also hated her during the episode where DJ declares she wants her own room and Michelle wants to keep hers and Stephanie doesn't want to share rooms with Michelle at first... Which DON'T blame her at all. DJ gets her own room and Michelle is a total bitch and says she doesn't want to share rooms with her.

Also the series finale pissed me off so much. Michelle running around and calling Stephanie "cactus" lips... I would've slapped her smug little face.

I always felt so bad for Stephanie.

How about the episode where Michelle lied to get to go to the "Counting Cars" concert... CROWS! Counting Crows and why the hell would a 8 year old go to a Counting Crows concert?

And the one when she keeps calling that hotline with the those awful jokes... Really she got pissed at Danny when she knew what she was doing was wrong? Good god, fuck off. Especially since it had the kid with the abusive father, and all I could be thinking was. "Good fucking god Satan... Some parents would've beaten the living shit out of you by now. Be grateful.

Soooo much Michelle hate and really if I listed all the eps where I hated her I would be listing almost every fucking episode when she spoke.
sjbrown25

Michelle's such a brat in the last episode, my friend and I have a little inside joke we giggle over each time we see it--after Michelle's accident and the guys realize she has amnesia, we're like "She doesn't know who you are! Now's your chance, run for it!" But, no, they actually claim her and take her home. You fools, a simple "Oh, sorry to bother you, little girl, see ya!" could have saved them an entire rest of their lives of misery.
Drew T.
They should have sent Michelle to live Charles' door-named-Dad.
Phenobarbara

Hated that moment. She is such a god-awful, spoiled little brat from hell. And her father (and Joey and Jesse) ought to be bitch slapped for making her that way and then enabling her shitty behavior.

Ugh, I recently watched the Valentine's Day episode where Michelle thinks Steve is going to marry her and gets pissed off when she's told it was just a joke. And of course, since the world revolves around the little fiend, Danny has to go upstairs and give her a Very Special Talk about how sorry they are and how terrible it was to joke with her and how great she is and blah blah blah. When she whined "Why won't Steve marry meeeee?" I wanted to punch her in the face. Hard. Oh, and the way she pronounced "marry": "maaayyyyweee". HATE.
jess9802
It's scary that they're not identical twins, but I assume that the clarification was determined through a DNA test.

Articles for years have talked about them being fraternal twins, and if I had to guess, I'd say their doctors think they're fraternal because there were two placentas. Most of the time that would indicate fraternal twins, but apparently about one-third of identical twins have separate placentas. I think Mary-Kate and Ashley look a little different--they have different chins--but I don't know how much of that is due to weight differences, the diversion in appearance that identical twins will experience as they age, or the possibility that they really are fraternal.
Nofret
I recently had the opportunity to watch some season-1 episodes, and I know it's been mentioned before, but I couldn't believe how funny the show was back then! It really had a lot more edge.

Particularly funny and surprising was the hoYay! There was an absolutely amazing scene with the two of them bathing Michelle in the tub, then taking her back up, putting her on the floor and deciding to sing to her. Jesse starts singing "Love me tender" to the baby, but somehow he ends up singing it to Joey who looks at him adoringly. Enter a shocked Danny and a beautifully delivered "Oh my God!". Wonderful! I'd forgotten how great Bob Saget was, too.

However, I have to say that overall I think Joey was a pretty superfluous and obnoxious character. He's much better in the early episodes than he was later on, but even as early as season 1, I don't feel like he's got much to do. Bad-boy Jesse trying to adjust to family life is, IMO, the core of much of the shows drive and comedy, and I can't help thinking that John Stamos could have easily handled scenes like Michelle's kitchen-changing scenes by himself, and still the scene would have worked.

I don't know, there is just something so odd about Joey living in the house, and it never rang true to me. The young grieving brother-in-law, sacrifizing his bachelor life for the sake of his nieces', to be sure, I can buy that, but the failed comedian/random friend/unattractive man-child? Not so much. And it doesn't help things that Cool-yay doesn't have half the chemistry with the children that John Stamos has. Joey has been mentioned earlier in this thread as a possible child-molester, and I totally get that! Something's definitely wrong when you've got a Mr. Potato-head in your room at age thirty.

Another thing; I agree with those in this thread who thought that it was a shame that they tied down Jesse so early on, with Rebecca. I really think that it would have been more fun to see him leading - or trying to lead - his promiscuous romantic life-style for a few more years. They touched upon this tendency in Jesse in one of the very first episodes, the one where Joey steals Jesse's girl (which... I'm sorry, what???), and Jesse tells Danny that he just wants to find the right girl and settle down, or something to that effect. I can see how a statement like that would look good on a family show, but I think it's out of character for a reckless 25-year-old. And I get the temptation of exploring the softer side of a macho character, but we already had plenty of that (hello? Pink bunnies on the walls!), so I really think they should have waited to introduce Becky. Or, even better, have introduced her when they did, but only have the two of them falling in love later on! A little will-they/won't-they might have been entertaining.

...Geez, since when did I give 80s-sitcoms so much thought? *needs to get out more*
sjbrown25

As soon as my eyes fell upon "hoYay" I immediately thought of the early season one bathtub scene ... and then I read the rest of the sentence and there you go, exactly as I was thinking. 'Cause really? The first season was sooooo hoYay it's not funny--except that it is.

Heh. I believe Entertainment Weekly pegged him as the most, or one of the most, useless and annoying supporting characters on any show ever.
Tony Gancarski
They never gave the poor son of a bitch any dignity. He never got to have a lasting relationship or kids of his own. He was always the one who had to stop being an adult and be a kid when Michelle needed someone to indulge her. Had they given Joey some damn substance, he would have made a compelling character on the show.

All his best episodes were when he got to actually mean something. Running for PTA president and buying DJ a car and finding out he was the family joke were two of the better episodes the show had. When Joey was the focus and wasn't being just the joke, he managed to make the show into something quite unique.
Drew T.
The show definitely was genuinely funny at one time. But as with most sitcoms, the show is great when it runs through the characters and not when it runs through the jokes. And this show fell dangerously into the latter thing in later seasons. I always felt, though, that aside from the Michelle exploits, the gags about Joey's weight/eating habits, and Jesse's continued hair obsession, the show remained relatively strong. I know those three things knock out a large majority of the later seasons, but still, there's good stuff there.

Joey was useless but not always. He fit nicely with the family in that he was searching for a family of his own. He'd never had a good one growing up, and the Tanners gave him a chance to be part of theirs. That's why he was so great at mediating conflict--he wanted it all to be okay more than anyone. (BTW, watching the episode today where they go on the boat. I love, at the end, where Joey tells Jesse he knows how hard it is not to achieve your dream since Alf had a show and he didn't.)

I also enjoyed two episodes with Joey -- Wayne Newton and Star Search. Both were great, I think, and they really got to Joey's motivations and such. The Star Search one was particularly tragic. I know, grouping Full House with tragedy seems weird, but there is something there, I think.

I personally would've loved if the show had come out during a time when gay characters were more accepted. Because.. hello? Three single men living together and raising kids in San Francisco? They could've at least given a NOD to the fact that there's a huge thriving gay community there. It could've given more interesting moments. Not many, but a few.

And word, first season was the best season. Joey should've been phased out halfway through season 1. Joey reminds be of Cousin Geri from the "Facts of Life", a comedian who isn't really funny but everyone laughs like they ARE funny. It makes my head hurt.

And I agree, if they'd made Becky "the girl Friday" (because they did need a strong adult female in the show, and some sexual tension SOMEwhere and we knew Stamos was going to be half of that) while Jesse had been a wild child.. I think it could've added more interesting things. As long as they didn't drag it out forever a la "Who's the Boss?" (DO IT ALREADY!!) ..

Wow.. I am such an 80s sitcom whore...
McKay
You know, I never noticed this moment before, but DJ had time of brattiness as well. I'm watching the episode where Joey and Jesse are left watching the girls while Danny interviews some boxer on TV, and after Jesse drags the entire contents of the refrigerator upstairs, the girls tell them they've changed their minds and want to watch TV downstairs. When Jesse insists they help carry stuff downstairs, calling an end to "Uncle Lunch Wagon," DJ snarks, "Whoa, it's Uncle Bad Attitude!" Pure Michelle stuff.

Except it's almost funny when it's a single incident, as opposed to many in every episode...
queenfrostine
I have to disagree about Becky. I watched this show when I was a kid, and I remember really liking Becky and Jesse together. Of course, I (like every other kid in the country) had a huge crush on Stamos and wished I was Becky, so...maybe that had something to do with it.
Phenobarbara
Becky should have given Jesse back her ring and ran in the other direction after seeing how Jesse went through enormous withdrawals after being separated from his family for ONE NIGHT after they got married. I mean, they had to move back into the Tanner house for god's sake because Jesse couldn't take it.
YourDensity
And was it REAAAAALLLY necessary for the characters of Becky and Jesse to be under the same roof as the stupid munchkin? Have them buy the house next door! Have them move on the same block. New set! Yayyy!

I mean were they that cheap they couldn't spring for a new set? Was it because it went against the title of "Full House' (dude, 3 girls, a dog, and two guys.. PLENTY full)??

I wish they could've just had them live nearby but come over to do laundry, or work (keep the office in the attic!) Sheesh!!!
McKay
The episode where Danny has to decide between Stephanie's science fair and DJ's school play was on today. That one always annoys me. Danny suggests going to the science fair first and seeing the second act of the play. Stephanie complains that he'll miss the judging, and DJ points out that she's dead in the second act of the play.

It never occurred to them that he could see the first act of the play, then go see the judging at the science fair.

I can't feel sorry for people in a dilemma that stupid.
Stinger97
Stephanie's Wild Ride was on tonight, and this is yet another episode where Michelle annoys me. Danny, Becky, Joey, and Jesse get sucked into Michelle's video game and are having a great time. Michelle, being the brat that she is, makes faces and rolls her eyes at the adults. And then she pulls the damn game out of the system.

I remember being her age and loving when the family would gather around the living room television to play some Nintendo. Still hate the bitch.
queenfrostine
I used to come home from school and find my mom playing Super Mario 3. If I had turned it off and ruined her game...let me just say she would not have been thanking me for showing her the error of her ways. That kid got away with way too much (as we all know!).
Topless Clogger

I can pretty much say that for any episode. Even as a baby when she didn't do much, because she just looked like a real-life troll doll.

Totally. I was always so shocked with how much she could get away with, and this includes DJ and Stephanie. I don't want to sound old, but damn, at times they were flat-out disrespectful.
