I think I'm watching the second episode, where Joey and Jesse are arguing over what's better, music or comedy. Joey lists off all that's wrong with music, and says Ozzy Osbourne, the Partridge family, and Charo. Considering his Surreal life "family," that line was awesome.
Also, Joey did his stupid Bullwinkle bit and DJ had him shut up real fast. If only she could have done that for every impression.

So I watched the chicken pox episode the other day (the one where Stephanie, Joey, and Jesse all get it, and Stephanie is upset because she can't see a real ballerina, and DJ has her very first slumber party, and Danny is very disturbing in a bright yellow get-up, and blah blah blah...), and I couldn't get over how stupid Danny seemed to be regarding chicken pox. Or maybe he wasn't being stupid, but I thought it was unrealistic (realistic? On Full House? You don't say...!) how obsessed he was with not letting Michelle get exposed to chicken pox. When I was growing up, parents would actually take their children over to play with other kids who had the chicken pox, so that their kids could get it too and get it over with (since chicken pox is worse the older you get, right?). In fact, I'm pretty sure that's how I got it as a toddler. So it seems like if Danny had any knowledge of chicken pox, he wouldn't really care about letting Michelle near the others. But this is Full House, so I guess Danny's actions do make sense after all.

Yes, just ask the 1.5" scar on my jaw after a pock decided to be difficult and have three surgeries. (I was nearly 14 when I got the chicken pox.) It can also be dangerous for small babies...how old was Michelle in this episode? If she wasn't walking yet, I can see Danny's concern. If she was over 18 months or so, it shouldn't have been a problem.

LOL, that's right! It was Jesse Cochran, then it changed to Kadsopolis (sp?).
What bothered me about the pox episode was how DJ got picked up for her slumber party at around 8-9am in the morning. Parents usually have them start in the late afternoon/early evening, or at least they did when I was growing up.
I saw the Stephanie gets married episode a few days ago. Boy, I had forgotten how great Stephanie was. I know it's been talked about here, but she was sooooo much better than the monkey twins.
Stephanie: Get on one knee Harry
Harry (one on knee): I can see up your nose!
Stephanie: This is supposed to be romantic
Harry: Oh. I can see up your nose, darling
Hee!

The chicken pox episode is from the first season. Does anyone remember how old Michelle was supposed to be? I know she was still in diapers and not really talking. It would make sense that Danny would want someone who wasn't sick to look after a baby and also that he wouldn't be keen on having a baby get chicken pox. It's not usually too serious for most kids but it's not exactly the common cold either.

One of the sub-plots I find odd: Joey has a girlfriend?!? He has been dating "Cheryl" for two months?!?!? They are going on a ski trip together?!?!
I love how the writers experimented with this concept. And after this episode, I don't think "Cheryl" was ever seen again.....
Either they realized no sane woman would have anything to do with a guy like Joey ooor Joey did one Bullwinkle impression too many and ran her off.

Regarding Jesse's name change: I could be wrong but I always thought that Cochran was his stage name and changed it back to Katsopolis to stay in touch with his Greek heritage. (I know that was Stamos's reason, but I thought it was the character's reason as well.)

If John Stamos
really wanted to do the "I'm proud of my heritage" bit, he should have chosen the name Katso
poulos for his character instead of Katso
polis. The -polis ending means "city," as in metropolis or Minneapolis, while the -poulos ending is equivalent to the English -son, as in Jackson. But then, John Stamos pronounces his last name "STAY-mus" instead of "STAH-mos," so maybe he doesn't know much about the language.

This episode is a perfect example of how much the guys suck at parenting. DJ and Kimmy recorded over Jesse and Joey's jingle, one that they had stayed up all night finishing. Jesse proceeds to yell at DJ because she didn't ask him if she could use his machine, she didn't check the tape first, and she also went in his room without asking. DJ acts like a stupid bitch and says, "Fine, I'll never come in your room again!" At this point, Danny comes in and is all, "You were too rough on her. You should apologize." And Jesse AGREES. ?? The bitch deserved it! Then he buys her drums because he wants them to be friends again?! People should watch this show to learn how

Okay, so I actually did a bit of research on chicken pox after this episode bothered me, and it turns out that all the stuff we hear about chicken pox not being serious for kids is, I guess, somewhat of an urban legend. I know statistics can pretty much say what you want them to say, but anyway...according to
this site it can be dangerous and apparently the number of deaths among children with the disease is the same as the number among adults...?
The episode still annoys me, though, although now the annoyance is centered on the fact that
Full House was actually right about it. Although, I ask you--would Michelle's death have been such a horrible thing? I mean, it's
Michelle we're talking about.

When I was chicken-poxed, I was in the hospital for six days with a 104 degree fever. My hair was wavy and blonde when I went in and red and super-curly when I came out, and my eyes changed from green to gold. That stuff'll screw you up! (Oh, and everyone was really concerned because those mortality rates are true.)
Although, I ask you--would Michelle's death have been such a horrible thing?
If she didn't die with the pox, it would have been easy to knock her off in the finale. What a shame they didn't shoot an alternate ending! ;)

I always think that they should show videos of Full House at Parenting Classes in a seminar called "How NOT to Parent Your Children". Last night I saw the episode where Jesse has gone to a cabin or somewhere for a vacation I guess (I didn't pay that much attention at the beginning). DJ and Stephanie start to miss him, so they call him and make up a lie about how Michelle is sick. Jesse comes rushing home and after talking to Danny and Joey, realizes that they made it up. However, he also realizes that he loves them so much and that he's going to stay with them instead of going on vacation or moving out, or whatever it is he was planning on doing. Do any of them say anything to the girls about lying? No. So now they can spend the rest of their lives thinking "If i want something, I'll just lie to get it, and I'll get my way." What great parents. When I have children, and I have a problem with them, I'm going to think, "What would Danny, Jesse, and Joey do?" Then I'll do the complete opposite.

I will forever damn that THS on Full House because not only was it a useless Olsen-obsessed two-hour waste of my time (which I watched in its entirety), but because I got those GODDAMNED Olsen songs in my head:
"Brudda for sale, only [something] cents! Brudda for sale! [Something, something, something]!"
and
"I am the cute one, she is my sister."
And I have this looped image of my head of the twins dancing terribly on the lawn as the cameras roll on one of their straight-to-video productions, and awkwardly swaying to the music as they "sing" "I Am the Cute One."
Lord help me!!!
(Btw, I didn't know Candace also followed the way of the Lord. I guess big brother Kirk was a strong influence.)

I think she has a website like Kirk does. I read a quote from her somewhere that went something like "imagine the love you feel for your parents...that is hatred compared to the love you should feel for God!" Scary stuff.
Word about the guys' shitty parenting skills. Speaking of letting the girls get away with stuff, there was the time when Michelle played on Jesse's music equipment after he told her not to. He told Danny what she did. For the rest of the episode, Michelle sneered at Jesse and called him "Uncle Tattle Tale". Of course she was never reprimanded for it. If I had ever called my uncle - or any other adult relative - names as a child, I would have received a few formidable smacks to my backside. Michelle was such an odious, infuriating little BRAT.

I was watching I Love the '80s the other day, and Candace was briefly featured. She talked about how she auditioned for that godawful Small Wonders show and never got the part, and she seemed very normal. After reading her "you hate your parents, all of you!" quotation, however, I realize that she must've holding back her inner craaaazy that day.
I just saw the episode where DJ and Kimmy go off to junior high. The best part was when the mean girls called DJ "embryonic", which has to be the worst dis since Joey called someone a "dippity doo head". This was also the episode where Kimmy and DJ wear too much make-up to appear un-embryonic, causing Stephanie to call them "cheap", and Becky to dispense her only good advice in this show's history. It was a pretty good episode, actually, though Joey had to go and ruin it by "teaching Jesse how to golf", which involved him basically hugging Jesse from behind for far too long. Talk about HoNo!. (I actually threw up after watching it. Coincedence? Er, probably; I have a stomach virus. But still. . . ew.)

Ugh, the circus birthday. Although I have to say, it didn't annoy me as much as the Flintstones-themed birthday. The part I hated - before dashing off to the hospital where the twins were being born, the kids opened the presents they had brought and Michelle walked down the line saying "love it, hate it, already have it, like it, love it, hate it..." What an ungodly brat. If I was one of the kids whose present she hated, I would have beat her over the head with it.

One thing I liked about this show that always rang true to me was that the house was never spotless. As much of a clean freak as Danny is, there was always some clutter. There was crap on top of the fridge, or in the back of the family room. When they came home, they would put their stuff on the table. I love that. I can't stand to see shows with spotless houses, because anyone with kids knows that the house is never clean.
Also, they had baby gates. Again, anyone with a baby knows that you have baby gates, and this is one of the few shows that I've seen them on.
Now, back to Michelle bashing. I just saw the episode where they dressed her up like Sweet Pea (Popeye's son). She looked like a damn fool.

Speaking of Michelle, I was at the (awesome!) Shins concert last night, and a band called The Brunettes opened for them. They're basically this pop group from New Zealand, and they're really bubbly and fun to listen to. Anyway, their last song, whose title has escaped me, involved them singing "Mary-Kate and Ashley" over and over, replete with handclaps and drums and kazoos and crazy instruments, and at the end of it, they all
whipped out masks with pictures of six-year-old Mary-Kate/Ashley on them and played the remainder of the song with them on. Try to picture that for a moment, y'all. It was one of the weirdest things I've ever seen, but also one of the oddly coolest.
Jodie Sweetin was so cute, though. I think she was the level of cuteness they were aiming for with Michelle, but the Olsens just were never that appealing.
She really was. The Olsens, while delivering supposedly "cute" lines, always had a dead, glassy look in their eyes, probably because someone off screen was calling them out for them to repeat. Jodie was much more fun and more, well, alive.
Still, I really don't mind Mary-Kate and Ashley now. Yeah, they're not so talented and they pose weirdly in pictures and I'm not a fan of the twincest vibe, but for some reason, they seem nice to me. (This is a shameful confession, but also, their eyeshadow? Kicks ass. Cheap, too.)

She was adorable. She really was a great child actress. And the writers knew how to write her good kiddy-lines too, not like that god-awful, totally unrealistic "You've got it dude"-nonsense they had Michelle saying. The "Technically..."-line, Stephanie had when Mr. Bear was missing and she was reporting it to the police, was priceless, and Sweetin delivered it beautifully. And I loved it that Stephanie was always rambling so much as a little kid! As she grew older, they seemed to forget that she used to be such a fun, bubbling girl. They should have developed this character trait in her, in stead of letting her end up being nothing but Michelle's Older Sister, standing around awkwardly on the set wearing manly flannel shirts.

Actually the episode I'm watching now is an earlier one. Michelle is really little and, I must say, just cute. How many references are there to Connie Chung during the run of this show??
I can think of three so far:
1) When Stephanie wants DJ to go to the elementary school Halloween carnival, she says she is thinking about dressing up as Connie Chung.
2) When DJ was having career day at her school, the kids were upset about her not getting Ms. Chung to speak.
3) And the Mr. Egghead episode where Stephanie makes some crack about Joey not being as smart or something as Connie Chung.
WTF? Any more I am missing?? Was Maury a writer for this show or something??

Speaking as a child of the 80s, Connie Chung was as fascinating as Princess Di. She was beautiful and seemed to know everything. Maybe they were playing on that angle, knowing that the kids and adults in the audience would appreciate the reference to her popularity?
