Another issue of Shonen Jump USA has come out, with more of the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga. This time it overlaps with the first episode of the dub.
Duel 35: Board Game Deathmatch. It's Yuugi vs. Mokuba in a game of Capsule Monster Chess, with the loser to face "the Experience of Death." Mokuba cheats the exact same way he did in their previous game, by rigging the random monster distributor to give him strong creatures and Yuugi weak ones. Fortunately for Yuugi, he's much better at strategy than the younger Kaiba. By exploiting the abilities of both his and Mokuba's monsters, (and a bit of luck) Yuugi is able to win.
Duel 36: Battle Beyond Hope. With his match against Mokuba over, Yuugi prepares to move on to the next level. Mokuba is unable to accept his loss, with good reason. Seto (via closed-circuit TV) chews him out for being such a loser, and activates the "Experience of Death." For those who might not recall, that's being stuck in a glass box, and bombarded by holographic images of horrific monsters attacking you. It sent Yuugi's grandfather to the hospital. Yuugi pulls Mokuba out of the box. When asked why, he states that he could not have won the match if he didn't have friends pulling for him.
Mokuba pulls out a picture of himself and Seto playing chess at the orphanage, and realizes how very wrong things have gotten. Meanwhile, Jonouchi and Anzu are being shown to their seats in the final arena. Jonouchi, his confidence boosted by Yuugi's easy win in the last chapter, acts cool and uses his pickpocketing skills to steal a goon's cell phone. He then contacts the hospital where Gramps was taken. Hey, a rare Hanasaki appearance! (Kid who's wimpier than Yuugi, big fan of American superhero comics.) The surgery isn't going too well, and Honda isn't answering his cell either.
Okay, we're finally into the first episode of the dub, so this part shouldn't need spoilers. Yuugi and Kaiba exchange glares, then shuffle and cut each other's decks. Yuugi leads with Winged Dragon, Guardian of the Fortress (1400/1200). Kaiba counters with Hitotsu-Me Giant (1200/1000) in attack position. Winged Dragon easily smashes it, costing Kaiba 200 life points, but the young bazillionaire doesn't seem at all worried. To be continued....

We get a new episode January 10th, the second episode in the block of Yu-Gi-Oh! that morning. (Which would be 10:30/11:30, I think.) "Noah's Secret".
(First episode in the block is the conclusion of Kaiba vs. Kentucky Fried Jinzo.)

Jan 3, 2004 @ 4:48 pm
In the spoilers I've been reading, it turns out Noah is dead, and Gozaburo only adopted Seto to give Noah a host body. Kaiba has a long battle with Noah, and Yugi takes over the battle with Kaiba's cards, and Noah turns all of Yugi's friends to stone during the battle. It ends up looking hopeless, Yugi has 100 lifepoints vs. Noah's 10,000. I can't wait until we get back to the Battle City Finals.

Huh, I figured someone would've commented on today's new episode by now. I thought it was an all right episode. Finally got to see Marik again. I was wondering how long it would take for him to just say fuck it and go looking for Yugi. I'd like to hope that this was the last episode where we have to put up with the Big Five, but the issue of Tristan's body still needs to be resolved. RoboMonkey!Tristan got to rub his face in Serenity's boobages, leaving me surprised that 4Kids or the WB actually left that in. That didn't stop the HoYay, though. I was getting strong vibes from Noa and Mokuba.
What I didn't like was how easily Mokuba was swayed by Noa. Sure, Noa brainwashed him with the glowy red eyes, but Mokuba doubted Kaiba before Noa did that. Mokuba doesn't care that Kaiba beat him in a plot to take over Kaiba Corp., but one obviously fake image of Kaiba "leaving him" makes him doubt how much Kaiba cares about him? Terrible. The half-reveal we got about Noa's identity wasn't a high point for me, either, since I'd read spoilers long ago.

Yeah Leanan the Mokuba/Noah step broyay was really strong. I really don't understand why Mokuba would believe that that was Kaiba seeing that he knows that their in a VIRTUAL WORLD and Noah's been creating holograms of their pasts ever since they got there.
Anyways, was I the only one who was hoping that Jinzo would have taken over Kaiba's body? Even If it had only been for one episode? Because Kaiba with a southern accent would have just been comedy gold.

Leanan: I wondered if I was the only one who noticed Tristan's face in Serenity's cleavage.
Not a bad episode, overall. I thought the attack from four of the Big 5 was the real highlight. One thing kind of irked me though. If the duel monster cards and powers can be summoned outside of a duel, why the hell would Joey play a bunch of weak monsters against a bunch of guys that want to steal his body and identity? Probably just a personal nitpick of mine. I'd have loved to see Joey, Serenity, and Tristan go all out in a full-on battle with monsters, magic, and traps, but I doubt that would have flown with the network. Oh well.
At least we got to see SuperEvil!Marik again. I'd almost forgotten about the resident psycho for a while. His reappearance makes me wonder what's up with Odeon, Ishizu, and Mai on the blimp.

In the Japanese original, Tristan (Honda) talks about Serenity's (Shizuka) boobs a bit when he's the robot monkey.
(Anybody else notice Tea's (Anzu) changing figure? Sometime's she's Jennifer Love Hewitt, sometime's she's Jennifer Walcott. Sometime's she's just drawn by Jim Lee.)
In the Japanese episode Tristan/Honda rubbed his robot hair-boner right in her chest and said to himself her breasts were as soft as "Candy Floss". I guess you can't digitally turn Serenity's boobs into a dark energy disk or anything. Ah well. This was was of those "So.Much.Talking." episodes I can do without. Just fight, already!
Lantern, I know you have one of your hilarious recaps ready.
SuperEvil!Marik:"Fuck this waiting around shit. Where's the Pringles and the Sam Adams light? Do they have ESPN in this shithole, or not?"

Well it was obvious that Joey was in a rush when he whipped those cards out so he didn't take to time to look for the more powerful ones. I have doubts that using more powerful ones would had made a difference anyway I believe. Even though the Big 5 are in the forms of Duel Monsters, their powers didn't seem to be limited to just the powers of their "host" monster.

Marik probably entertained himself by torturing "Shute" from SD Gundam.

Noah: (eyes light up) You do not love your brother.
Mokuba: I do not love my brother.
Noah: Those are not the droids you're looking for.
Mokuba: Whuh?
Noah: Old joke. Never mind.
I dunno how Part II of Noah's Big Exposition will make sense. Right now,I'm guessing that Kaiba's memories of Noah were wiped out, Weapon X-style. Or maybe Kaiba snapped Noah's neck and then repressed the memory. Who knows with this show?
Tristian: yeah, I laughed. What a pervert he is. Show some restraint, man!
Judging from the preview months ago, we got at least two battles ahead:
Big Five lodging in Tristian's head, and Gozaburu taking on Kaiba and/or Yugi. And I guess Evil!SoDamnEvil!marik got tired of raping everybody else on the blimp, and decided to check things out. Ever read "24 Hours" from

Seriously, Tristan, you have to buy her dinner and a few tequila-based drinks first. Also, don't run into the living room to watch "SportsCenter" immediately after copping a feel.
I'm guessing in the KidsWb! that Noah isn't going to be dead from being hit by a car, it'll probably be like he got trapped in cyberspace or something. Also I know a really unfair duel between Not!Tristan vs. Yugi and Joey is coming up, the Big 5 all take turns in Tristan's body, essentially making it five against two. And Kaiba fights Gozaburo , and he utilizes something called "Necross Exodia", which is not the instant win monster the regular Exodia is. Then Kaiba says (after the finals after over) "Fuck Duelist Tower. I'm redecorating. Call the Fab Five." And he blows the hell out of it.

Necross Exodia is a monster that can't be destroyed by any means. You have to have all 5 pieces in the graveyard. You can't hurt it, the only way to destroy it is to remove the pieces from the graveyard from play.

Wow no duels! I sorta were thrown there for awhile but I've always been about the story aspect of Yu-Gi-Oh than just the duels.
*Did like how Joey DIDN'T want to helped Seto because he right, Kaiba wouldn't give a damn about his butt. Still Duke coming out saying the same thing was lame. He only been around Kaiba a short time so he needs to SHUT THE HELL UP!
*Tristen I gotta give you the ole' thumbs up, buddy. Copping a feel is hard enough but noe that you're a cuddley monkey and Serenity is ok with it, then got for it!
*Noah partly hidden secret and Seto confusion were great! I guess not reading all the spoiler have made the episodes special for me.
*Mocuba you are too damn easy too manipulate! Geez, even w/o the hypnosis or whatever, you were still totally buying Noah bullshit!
*Duke and I can't say this enough, SHUT THE HELL UP! I was hoping something outta the water was gonna drowned your butt!

Add that to the Yu-Gi-Oh! drinking game. Whenever Mokuba gets brainwashed, chug the bottle.
Duke Devlin is less annoying as "Otogi", at least from the translations I read. Still, I wonder if Japan's Hot Topic sells all that dice-themed gear. Probably in 20 years they'll sell Yu-Gi-Oh! shirts like they sell 1980's cartoon shirts now. Nah, by then the cool kids will be running around with strategically placed holograms on.
Global warming and all that making clothing unnecessary. Probably.

I think it would depend on who Kaiba hooks up with.
Being raised the way he was, I don't think he would EVER be a bottom to someone who wasn't more powerful than he was. So, I think that he would play bottom to people who can take him down, like Yami, Malik, Shadi, possibly Isis, and (god help me for saying this) Joey.

Krump's a kook. I liked last week, when he manhandled Tiny Guardian. "Didn't expect that from a penguin, didya?" To which TG would have responded, "Dude, I have a marshmellow for a head. I don't expect ANYTHING!" And Tea's right..."sicko" covers Krump nicely.
Next week: well, Johnson has Judge Man, who can clean house for a mere 1000 points...a real bargain when you inflict 500 points direct damage per an opponent's monster. I know the deals of Judge Man, Nightmare Penguin (+200 boost to water monsters) and Jinzo (wipes out trap cards), but I'm fuzzy about Deep Sea Warrior and Robotic Knight. I do remember Joey can transfter attack points from Flame Swordsman to whatever monster he chooses. Dark Magician? I want to be surprised. I bet there's a fusion monster that can be made from Yugi and Joey's decks. Not Black Skull Dragon...Yugi has both Red Eyes and Summoned Skull.

Lantern7: Deepsea Warrior can reflect any attack by sacrificing two of the user's monsters. But it can't handle direct attacks on the user's LP. That's how Yugi beat Gansley before.
The Robotic Knight allows its' user to use "Final Artillery" anytime the user has three or more machine monsters. The blast does 500 points of direct LP damage (it might be up to 1500 LP of damage though, because Nesbitt was dividing the attack to hit Tristan, Duke, and Serenity in their duel).

Dark Magician and Flame Swordsman can be fused to Dark Flare Knight. A warrior magician knight that when attack the damage becomes zero. After its destroyed the Mirage Knight can be special summon to the field it only has 2800 attack, but it then adds on to what ever monster it is attacking. Hey, it's time for another Yu-Gi-Oh! manga update courtesy of Shonen Jump USA. Turns out that while these chapters are contiguous with the first dub episode, they're not exactly the same, so the spoiler blanks will be used.
Duel 37: To the Death!
As you'll recall, Yuugi (Yami, really) won the first exchange of the card game with Seto, reducing him to 1800 points. Seto draws the Wicked Worm Beast (1400/700), and attacks the Winged Dragon. Luckily, the dragon has the ability of flight, and a 35% chance to evade. Gee, it works! Winged Dragon destroys the Worm Beast, but since they had the same Attack, Kaiba's Life Points aren't affected. But since Seto is ending his turn with no monsters on the field, he gets to place a "free" monster in defense mode.
Yami isn't sure what that monster is, so he places his own new monster in defense mode and ends his turn.
Kaiba boasts that he was a champion even before he started cheating, and switches Saggi the Dark Clown (600/1500) to attack mode. Then Kaiba uses Dark Energy to triple Saggi's Attack to 1800. Bye, bye, Winged Dragon!
Yami draws Right Leg (200/300), which isn't much help, and places Sangan (1000/600) in defense. Kaiba blows away Sangan and the unnamed monster placed previously.
Yuugi/Yami remembers Grampa's words of encouragement and trusts in the Heart of the Cards. Sure enough, he's able to draw Gaia the Fierce Knight (2500/2100). So long, Saggi!
Sadly, Kaiba finally draws his first Blue Eyes White Dragon (3000/2500) card and wipes out Gaia!
Kaiba taunts Yuugi with the fact that he still has two more BEWDs in his deck....

Is this the aforemenioned Red Eyes plot that sucked so hard? Or is this something new?
As far as I know, this is an entirely new movie. I'm wondering how they're gonna handle it, since the show's so heavy on continuity, but whatever.

Last post ran a little long, so the next manga chapter here:
Duel 38: The Terror of Blue-Eyes!!
Kaiba is at 1300 life points, Yuugi at 700, and Seto's drawn his first Blue Eyes White Dragon. Yuugi draws Imp (1300/1000) and places it in defense mode as a stalling tactic. BEWD slaughters it. Next up is Beaver Warrior, but Seto chooses to let it stew, and draws a second BEWD.
Yuugi is worried, but remembers Grandpa, and again believes in the Heart of the Cards. Sure enough, he draws Swords of Revealing Light, which prevent the BEWD from attacking for three turns.
Kaiba is ticked, but confident; he places another monster in defense mode.
Of the four cards in Yuugi's hand, three are seemingly useless junk. But then he remembers Grandpa telling him about a special monster, a puzzle that comes in five pieces. Too bad no one's ever been able to play it. But hey, Yuugi draws a fourth piece of Exodia...there's hope....
Kaiba draws Judgeman (2200/1500) and uses it to destroy Beaver Warrior. Yuugi counters with Dark Magician (2500/2100).
Too bad Kaiba is next able to draw his third BEWD, and blow away Dark Magician. And next turn, all three dragons will be able to attack.
Yuugi only has one chance left!

Today's episode just made me miss when we got two new ones in a morning. Not a whole lot moved along, although Kaiba found a virtual KaibaLand theme park, and his "backstage" security system is a chessboard where you "Checkmate" to get in. So Kaiba better hope that Bobby Fischer doesn't have a urge to break in and loot Kaibaland.
If Tristan ever gets his body back, he's got some explaining to do, about all his gratuitous face-in-bobbies maneuvers.
Joey was looking up to be smart last episode, now he's back to pulling it out of his ass, like drawing "Panther warrior", and not having a "Scapegoat" magic card or other monsters to sacrifice for it to attack. Luckily, he picked his own Jinzo this time. And Yugi temporarily looked to have his own brain fart.
All in all, I wanted more this morning.

Good episode. Two things stuck out in my mind...
The hilarious scene where Yugi apparently makes an amateurish move that appears to be an obvious trap. And Joey just about has a nervous breakdown. But then when Yugi's real plan becomes evident, Joey tries to pretend he knew all along.
It just shows what a good friend Yugi really is. He knew damn well that Joey didn't have a clue about what he was planing, but yet he made Joey look good in front of the others.
Seto uses a chess board as security clearance device?? So does that mean only Seto, Bobby Fischer, Garry Kasparov, and Big Blue the Super Computer are the only one's that can enter backstage at the park?? Seto's an evil Genius I tell you! :D

SKJAM, thank you once again for the updates! Keep em' coming!
Back to today episode..it was a good one with too much talking from the Big 5, though.
A big YEAH! for Joey not disappointing us by showing us he's not only a tool but still as clueless as ever! This is one of the reasons Kaiba gets so pissed at Yugi; he feels Yugi does nothing but covers Joey butt all the time. And he's right. Still I do like seeing them duel together b/c Joey makes it funny. lol
Who said Kaiba doesn't have a sense of humor? Man his one-liners at Noah were hilarious! Kaiba calling the guy a dork because of his outfit and then talking about Noah using that old film projector was freaking funny! I nearly fell outta my chair at the dork comment! LOL
I did like seeing Injection Fairy or whatever. I swear what she holding is supposed to be a needle but its funny how it doesn't look like a crayon but something entirely else! lol
Minus the talking but good episode! Between Kaiba'a one-liners and Joey being his regular self, this episode was pure comedy gold!
DN-- Bobby Fischer? Hahaha! Yeah I guess Kaiba knows something we don't. Neever seen a security system like that before. Also I get the feeling Serenity isn't a complainer but Tea would be kicking his butt!
Zerowing-- seeing Joey acting like a buffon was funny. All those hand gestures while trying to signal Yami had my rolling. I kept picturing Yami looking out the corner of his eyes and praying that Joey would SHUT.THE.HELL.UP! lol
