I just discovered this board today and thought I'd post. One of my favorite episodes was when Cory got those silk red sheets and silk red pajamas, jumped on the bed and then slid off into a stack of pop cans. I also liked that episode where Cory is crying over Topanga and theres this big macho guy with him and hes crying over losing someone too and then Cory screams "TOPANGA!!!" and the guy screams "FRED!!!". The look on Cory's face was priceless! Both of these moments had me doubled over in laughter. I love this show. It is one of my all time favorites. It's a shame I hardly ever see it on Disney anymore.

Yay! BMW! I always watched it since it premiered when I was in 2nd grade. I wanted Topanga's crimps back then when she had elaborate long hair and was 'new age.' I became obsessed with it when I was in 7th grade and when Cory, Shawn, and Topanga became seniors. I can't explain what drew me toward it, but I just really enjoyed it and hung on until the end of the show. I liked the relationships between Cory and Topanga, and Shawn and Angela. I liked that Angela became his first steady gf. Eek..can't see Shawn having sex in that movie. Freaks me out. I saw something on him, for 'Where Are They Now' and it showed him doing a play 'The Graduate' with Jerry Hall and that just completely creeped me out. Can't think of that...Pure thoughts...Yes...Childhood...Yay for DVDs! Even tho, I have the last seasons on tape...DVDs are better quality..man I'm a dork.

The last episode came on Disney Channel again last night. And I cried. Again. I'm a sucker for last episodes of anything--but the show I grew up with? That was hard. It was a well-done last episode. I was glad that they got the actor who played Chet back to talk to his sons, even though the whole "angel" thing was cheesy. The best part was the goodbye with Mr. Feeney, when he admitted he loved them all, and ended the series with a final "Class dismissed". I couldn't help but wonder whether they had stored the classroom set for a couple of years, or whether they reconstructed it specifically for the last episode. I really hope we get a BMW reunion movie in a couple of years.

Thank goodness I found this forum!
I've been watching the random episodes on the Disney channel late at night, but I can't figure out who is related/friends with who and what is going on.
I couldn't watch this show when it was on, everyone tells me I look like that Topanga chic and I was dating some guy named Eric Matthews (weird) who turned out to be a total asshat. Now I wish I would have watched it when I was closer to the 'appropriate' age, not 30. Hope nobody finds out!

I really loved the last episode too. The last season which I only caught here and there, since I was finishing up college. Just was off at times and then pretty good the other half. The last episode, just really ended the show on a great note and I felt a bit of the emotion at the end especially Mr. Feeny's final words.

I can only hope that on I Love the 90s, they mention BMW, 'cause I KNOW for most of that decade, I had the biggest effing crush on Rider Strong EVER.
Oh yeah, I dug Boy Meets World, mostly because of Shawn Hunter. Then again, I was one of those shallow girls who watched Home Improvement for JTT. Go figure. I love this show! I went through a period of hating it in sixth grade, for some reason I don't know, but I got back into watching it a year later.
I miss that show. I miss Shawn's hair thinger. (who else used to swoon at that?) I miss my best friend in eighth grade calling Topanga a ho 'cause in 1999, Lance Bass from *NSYNC dated Danielle Fishel for a time. (oh, I miss those days! Hee!) And I miss semi-sane Eric! I [heart] Will Fredile.

I just found this forum. I started watching BMW only last year, because my daughter watches it on Disney. Great show! It's aged well, unlike so many family-oriented sitcoms. Eric is by far my favorite character, and I'm happy that Will Friedle is at least doing steady voice work on Kim Possible. I'd love to see him in another role that would showcase his physical comedy, though. Even just thinking of ""Plays with Squrrels" makes me laugh. But as others have commented, I disliked that Eric's character was dumbed down over the course of the series. In the first year or two of the series, Eric seemed like an average "B" student, and then he somehow morphed into Dumb Boy. I also preferred Topanga when she was in her hippie/New Age persona, because she was much more interesting then than later when she seemed more like standard girlfriend with heart of gold. I've got to admit that one of my favorite scenes is from the first couple of seaons, when the kids are assigned to do a mock reunion. Topanga shows up in a toga as president, and comments that the men are kept underground now and only used for breeding. I'm hoping the entire series will go to DVD soon, so I can catch the episodes that Disney won't air.

Word. I just saw this episode for the first time a few days ago, and now my msn name is "I married a moose--we don't need counselling." Just one of many examples of an Eric line being funny solely because Eric/WF said it. I loved Eric , but I agree they changed his character a little too much. At the beginning wasn't he supposed to be more like Joey from "Friends", meaning dumb, but a stud when it came to women? They turned him into a bit of a loon, which was funny but still. I also just saw the one where Eric tells Topanga she's fat just to get her pizza. Very funny.
Oh, and I totally agree Shawn and Cory were in love.

Ahh! I loved this show, but my dad wouldn't let me see it so I had to sneak episodes.
My favorite episode? When Cory and Shawn where doing a newspaper article based on "black like me," only they did "chick like me" and Cory was jealous cause Shawn made a prettier girl. HEE! "My hosiery is bunching." hee!
Oh, and I totally agree Shawn and Cory were in love.
Of course they were. First Hoyay I remember distinguishing. Best example is in the series finale, and they had to say good bye, "I didn't wanna say goodbye cause I thought you didn't!" Then they cried and hugged, and Topanga says she wants a divorce. ahhh good times.

janellio, why wouldn't your dad let you see BMW? With the exception of some of the later episodes, it was a pretty wholesome show, IMO. (And FWIW, I had to sneak episodes of 90210 because my mom walked in when I was watching the episode when they were handing out condoms at school -- the show was taboo after that.)

I watched this show casually during its initial network run, but I do distinctly remember an episode that was, dare I say it...overtly homoerotic. It was the episode when Shawn dated this possessive girl who didn't want him to see Cory again, so Cory and Shawn would meet secretly or sneak phone calls to each other, saying things like "I just miss the sound of your voice.".
The split screen of the both of them repeatedly putting the phone receivers back to their ears after saying goodbye, because they didn't want to hang up was telling. The teen girl audience members were squealing like Cory and Shawn were Ross and Rachel or something. And when Shawn's girlfriend caught them together, she felt like she was cheated on. How a Disney sitcom got away with this is amazing.

I used to watch this show as a kid. Corey was still in school and had a secret crush on Topanga, and Eric was a cool older kid.
I tuned in the other day to watch some afternoon TV and there it was. But boy, has this show changed! Corey and Topanga are married? HUH?! Aren't they, like, 17? Eric has been turned into a comic relief character. What's up with Mr Feeny still being a part of their lives, wasn't he their high school teacher? That hardly seems believeable. Who are all these other people?
The show wasn't really funny IMO. the last time I watched it, it was educational (which isn't necessarily a good thing, but the title kind of suggests that the 'boy' is going to learn some lessons).
Why should all "perfect couples" meet at 14, start dating at 16 and get married at 18? I don't get this about television. That's not how it works in real life. Except for those couples that get divorced when they're 21.

May 14, 2004 @ 2:47 pm
They did move into a dorm for married couples. My college had one dorm like that, but on BMW, it wasn't as much of a dorm as it was a pit of hell that happened to exist close to the college they attended. If it was a dorm, it would have been maintained by the college. The room may be outdated, but it wouldn't have been all decrepit like they showed. I was very glad that the family didn't cosign for the loan for the house they wanted, or else I would have been forced to kick the ass of the writers.
I always wanted a BMW reunion, to see if Topanga and Corey were actually still married, or if Corey had left her for the very hot Shawn.

RainisBeautiful, I can't remember exactly why my dad wouldn't let me see it, I rally think it had to do with Eric. I dunno. Parents are weird. And speaking of weird, does anyone else remeber Minkus? Nice mental image. But yeah, I could see that happening too.
Don't you just hate it when the writers want us to think they're perfect for each other, but do nothing to prove that? Like Niles and Daphne on Frasier. They lost all the spark as soon as they got together.
Maybe it just doesn't work out to start with a love-hate relationship, or a story where one person is pining after another, and then introduce them as a couple. They've been written in one way for years, and the writers just might not have what it takes to make them work as a couple. I dunno.
Is it just me, or do they still look like they're 14?

Speaking of this, I've seen the episode where Cory runs for class president against Shawn a few times on Disney. But I remember when I first saw the episode years ago, Mr. Feeney makes this quip when they are supposed to be saying their speeches about "slim pickins, indeed" that doesn't appear in the Disney version. I
know he said this, because this became an in joke between me and my mother for years thereafter. Am I crazy or did Disney cut it out?

Was it ever explained the time leap between seasons 1 and 2? I could've sworn Corey, Topanga and Shawn were in the 6th grade in Season 1 but then the next season, they were in high school! I always figured that they went to a community school that held grades 7-12 but then they graduated in season 5.
So did they ever explain that or did they expect the viewers to be too stupid to notice?

That is one of biggest mysteries. At first, in season 2, I thought they were in junior high. That is where they should have been. I don't know how they jumped so quick so soon. Of course, babies have grown up 5-6 years in one summer on other shows.
I admit Eric was funny, but they probably dumbed him way too much just for humor.

So basically, he's like Joey on Friends. I wonder why writers can't keep the stupid characters plain silly, but have to make them retarded?
I have a question about Eric. Why was he with Corey and Topanga on their honeymoon? I saw the end of that episode and he was there, and became boiled alive by cannibals or something (how funny). It makes no sense - if I got married, the last people I'd like to see on my honeymoon are my brothers!

The reason Eric followed Corey and Topanga on their honeymoon was because he was obsessed with being the perfect best man. Therefore, he wanted to make sure their honeymoon was perfect. The newlyweds were unaware of his presence.

He was, but he quit. I think he did it because he felt that Cory should have Eric be it because they were brothers. Though I may be getting that confused with another show. I do know that Shawn stepped down as best man though.
