Resurrecting this thread to add this 'Suffering Hall of Fame' a name that deserves to be here, so much the writers themselves made sure every season this character was tortured once or twice:
Ladies and Gentleman: Miles O'Brien, Chief of Operations, Starfleet, Deep Space Nine.
- Married to the most annoying wife in all of Star Trek
- His first child was born during a crisis, and had a Klingon midwife
- He was almost killed after helping a planet get rid of their bio-weapons
- He was cloned and even his cloned felt victimized of everyone else
- His wife was posessed by evil space ghosts
- His second child had to be born with a surrogate mother
- He dies! and gets replaced by his self from a few hours ahead on the future
- He gets convicted on a planet where they make him believe he spent 20 yrs in jail
- He loses his 9 year old child to a wormhole and a 20 yr old savage version of her appears.
And so on, and so forth, every season of DS9 has a 'Torture O'Brien episode'. So let's hear it for the Chief! Hear, Hear!

I just started watching Firefly , and thought someone would have nominated him already, but apparently not...
(Keep in mind, this is within the space of ten episodes...)
- Possible and more than probable PTSD from battle experience (at the very least, emotional issues stemming from it)
-Slipped a mickey from interstellar space whore/thief
- Near suffocation and possible hypothermia
-Shot in the gut, and subsequent long painful near bleeding to death
-Stabbed in the gut ( in the very next ep)
-Extended and painful electrocution, stabbing, and other assorted ( and weird) torture, including having his ear sliced off
-Died, and was subsequently revived to be tortured some more
-Beaten up , and dropped several feet onto his head on a metal deck , by a large non-sequitur spouting bounty hunter
-Miscenellous beatings in bar fights
Ladies and Gents , Cap'n Malcolm Reynolds!
(Jesus...just imagine what Joss would have done with him had Firefly had a full run.)

This probably won't mean much to a lot of posters, but I have to nominate Little Mo in EastEnders:
- Her mother dies of cancer.
- Marries scary man who beats her up regularly.
- Husband rapes her.
- Husband burns her with a clothes iron, then makes her eat her dinner off the carpet - on Christmas Day!
- Finds out husband has got another woman pregnant.
- Fights back against husband, leaving him for dead.
- Husband isn't dead, but presses charges against her.
- Found guilty and goes to prison for attacking husband.
- Released, but is then stalked by husband.
- Husband holds her hostage in a burning house which she barely escapes from and husband is killed in.
- Finally remarries new husband who's good to her.
- Gets a job as a barmaid, only to be raped by one of the customers.
- Finds out she's pregnant by the rapist, but decides to keep the baby.
- Second husband leaves her because she's having the rapist's baby.
How much can one woman take? I don't even like the character, but I wonder how much more the writers can pile on her.

Hunter's character on the show within a show Grosse Pointe. I get the feeling there was a much longer list than what they mentioned, but poor Becky had been gang-raped, aborted her child, and been cheated on by her alcoholic pedophile of a boyfriend many, many times.

I definately agree on Little Mo Pooki but what about Sarah-Louise Platt on Coronation Street (again this probably won't mean much to most readers)
When she's born her mum isn't sure who her dad is
Her dad then dies when she's very young
She is barely seen for 12 years and then suddenly appears with a new face
Has a baby at 13
Is almost kidnapped by internet paedophile at 14
Her mum and stepdad divorce after he has an affair
Her new stepdad is a murderer and tries to kill her and the rest of her family
She almost dies in a car crash
Her daughter's dad dies
Her daughter is kidnapped by her crazy granny who tries to kill her
She fails most of her GCSEs
She has a crappy job in a cafe
Her mum tries to get her daughter taken into care
She lives in a crappy flat
She's pregnant again at 16
Her fiance is secretly gay
Her original stepdad starts dating one of her friends
She has an annoying little brother, her big brother is fucking Adam Rickett!
And to top it all off her mum is Gail Platt!
And she's still only 16!

If we were including books, I would so say Tobias of Animorphs. Okay, so I'm 12, but he has a crap-life with an alcoholic for a guardian, gets stuck in morph and can only be human for two hours (I think), blah, blah, and the only thing really good about his life (Rachel) dies. Greeeeat.

Coronation Street is a very down-to-earth British soap. If I were to compare it to an American show, the best comparison I could muster would be to maybe
As The World Turns or
Guiding Light.Personally, I have no sympathy for Sarah Louise. These last few years, most of the victimizations she's underwent, she's really brought on herself.

Add Anya to the Victimized Buffy Characters list. Although I'd imagine she had it easier while she was a demon. And dying while protecting sad sack Andrew; now that's just sad. I don't know if Dawn is "victimized" or "victimizing" (the viewers, that is).

Okey, so I have to mention Connor on Angel.
He gets kidnapped by a vengence obsessed lunatic - Holtz - and grows up in a hell dimension where he's taught to hate his real father and told he never loved him (which Angel did and still does). Holtz then tricks Connor into thinking Angel killed him, so Connor dumps Angel to the bottom of the ocean. He finds out Holtz lied and tries to be a good person. But he then gets manipulated into impregnating an evil higher being (which is what Cordy was possessed with), manipulated into almost killing Angel AGAIN, manipulated by Jasmine (jeez, the kid was manipulated since birth!) and after realising that he will never be loved or have a family, or be happy he decides to blow himself up with a bunch of other people, thus forcing Angel to kill him in order to give him a new happy life, with no memories of the painful real one. He then, one year later, gets said horrendous memories back.
It's a miracle that kid hasn't jumped of a building yet.

Bianca Montgomery of All My Children, this is your thread.
In the past year alone she has:
- fallen in love with a woman who was using her to steal from her mother's company and sleeping with Bianca's sister's boyfriend
- been raped by her sister's now ex-boyfriend
- become pregnant as a result of that rape
- shot her rapist, repressed it, watch her sister go on trial for the murder and then finally realize she could have prevented it
- been berated by her mother for even considering keeping the baby
- decided to keep the baby anyway, but hide it from her mother because Erica Kane if a frickin' psycho
- been berated AGAIN by her mother for keeping the baby and basically was told that her child was going to live a horrible life and she was a selfish, irresponsible person for keeping her (I just can't describe how awful Erica was in this scene)
- given birth in the middle of the woods in a storm
- had her baby switched with another child and told she was dead
- been abandoned by her mother, who is pretending to be a showgirl in Las Vegas
This isn't even touching on the stuff from before I was watching, which I believe includes catching her mother in bed with her father's brother, getting kidnapped by a child molester, developing anorexia, being blackmailed with the secret of her sexuality, and having Erica Kane as a mother.
Also, as much as I hated her by the end of her run, I would say Lindsay, from The Practice. She was date raped by an ex-boyfriend, stabbed by a guy wearing a nun-suit who wasn't even out to get her (he was coming after her friend), stalked by a serial-killing weirdo (whom her husband sort of accidently had killed), and then stalked again by another weirdo, whom she killed herself.

I've gotta add Frank Burns from MASH. Poor guy, albeit not very likable. All he's got at home is a loveless wife and a soulless medical practice, so he enlists, thinking of his country blah, blah. Then he is totally and completely harrassed by the drunken asshats who are supposed to be his comrades. Just off the top of my head:
Drugged, Toetagged and sent to the front
Blood stolen and given hepatitis
Snakes in bed
Lovemaking broadcast all over camp
Publicly jilted
And publicly insulted in front of people he commands - constantly.
They harrassed him into a mental breakdown, and then laughed about it. Ah, good times.

re Major Frank Burns...
Drugged, Toetagged and sent to the front
I remember reading an interview with Larry Linville wherein he talked about that episode. Hawkeye & BJ invite Frank to drink with them for the first time because they feel sorry for him after getting dumped by Hot Lips.
The original script called for Frank to choke on the martini and cough/gag have some reaction like that.
But, Larry insisted that Frank just down the drink without a problem and be 'a natural' at it. I'm glad they let him have his way. It also allowed the following exchange which amused me no end.
FRANK: (knocks back martini, smiles a little) MMM! It's lemony!
Hawkeye: That's the cough drops we put in it.
He didn't say it in the interview- but I think Larry was pretty disgusted with the role after awhile and even more put-out by the fact his character was being bounced & replace by someone who was a seen as a 'better' foil for Hawkeye. Can't says I blame him.

He also stated in some M*A*S*H* retrospective that the show was getting "messagey", which was one of my major complaints as well.
Okay, let me give it a shot:
Born into a military family, so that she never lives in the same place for more than a year growing up--and therefore finds it difficult to be friends with anyone.
It is implied that she ended up having flings with many older military men, possibly in an attempt to capture some Freudian daddy love.
Has an affair with a married man who absolutely refuses to leave his wife (and accidentally throws it in her face on a regular basis).
Is constantly harrassed by two colleagues for attempting to display a certain level of professionalism.
Is given an insulting and derogatory nickname by said colleagues.
Becomes engaged to a military man who begins to cheat on her the moment she turns her back.
Has a one-night stand with one of the aforementioned colleagues, and it is implied that she maintains an attraction that is never consumated again.
I introduce to our lineup one Major Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan, RN.

Baxter Stockman, from the new Ninja Turtles.
- Loses company.
- Pisses the Shredder off, loses eye.
- Pisses Shredder off again, loses left arm and the use of his legs and neck.
- Fights the Shredder and the Turtles, losing his body in the process (only his head remains).
- After achieving some sort of independence and aquiring a robotic body, is captured by the Shredder again, and is forced to work for him again. Oh, and he's now a talking brain.
- Is left for dead in the middle of the ocean.

Phoebe Buffet!
Her mother committed suicide when she was a child. She never knew her father, and when she finally met her brother, he was an idiot who was marrying a woman twice his age, and Phoebe had to carry their triplets. Her grandmother repeatedly lied to her about her family history. She lived on the streets for many years. The first love of her life left the country for some obscure research grant. Her apartment burned down. And the worst part, for a brief time, she had to live with Monica.

I want to say any character that had anything to do with Michael Landon on any series. But I'll narrow it down to Mary Ingalls.
Family loses home in Kansas, moves to Minnesota with nothing
Ostracized by townfolk for being a "country girl"
Nearly dies of scarlet fever
Little brother dies
Sister kidnapped
Other sister falls down well and mother blames her
Gets kicked by horse & nearly dies from infection & repetitive surgeries
Comes from impoverished family
Parents frequently procreate without a bedroom door
Accidently burns barn down and is blamed by mother
Gets lost in blizzard *twice*
Ostracized for wearing glasses
Fiance moves away and has affair then dies
Goes blind
Has miscarriage
Has healthy child and stands helpless while Mrs. Garvey uses child to break window and child dies in fire.
Home and workplace burn down
Goes insane
Hard choice. There is also that guy in Walnut Grove whose entire family died from typhoid when the evil businessman sold rat infested wheat and then a few seasons later the same guy had a whole new family that died off when the evil businessman sold him anthrax infected mutton. (or was it anthrax, then typhoid?)

I've seen this scene mentioned every where as well, but I've never seen the episode. Right now, I'm picturing a woman throwing a baby through a window in order to escape a fire. Is that really what happened? And why did it happen? Was there nothing else available to break the window?

Add for Phoebe - caught hepatitis when a pimp spit in her mouth. Lived with Monica not once, but TWICE.
Alice Garvy didn't throw the baby through the window or anything, but based on the angle of the camera and the way the baby was being held in the crook of her arm, it appears that she is using the baby and not her elbow to break out the window.

Actually she didn't so much throw the baby as hold it and repeatedly beat the window with it to clear out the glass. It was one of those multi-paned windows so it took a good thrashing before all the little panes were broken. She was on the 2nd floor and yes, there was plenty of furniture around. And she didn't bother jumping out the window once the glass was cleared. So I'm guessing that Alice Garvey had a lifelong ambition to bash a baby into a window, saw that the fire was closing in and realized this was her last chance.....
Oh, and the image of Alice & baby thrashing against the window and screaming isn't complete unless you know that the camera cuts to Blind Mary, outside the building yelling "My Baaaa-by. My Baaaa-by. My Baaaa-by."

Add for Phoebe
The first person she lived with after she moved to New York killed himself. She was stabbed by a cop. She has a twin sister that avoids and mistreats her. Aforementioned twin sister sold her birth certificate, "forgot" to tell Phoebe about their mom's suicide note and the fact that they were adopted, and impersonated her in order to be a porn star. Finds out that she was adopted after she is far into adulthood. Was hinted that she had romantic feelings for Joey that were never returned or consummated. Grew up poor and stepfather spent many years in jail.
And all of you thought Friends was a comedy.
Okay, I'll bite. ER's Carol Hathaway.
Father dies when she is a child under mysterious circumstances, possibly suicide. Raised by a bitter, overprotective mother. Ends up with Doug Ross at a young age, and is cheated on and dumped. Has to sleep with Rick Rossovich. Attempts suicide. While she is in a coma after said suicide attempt, her former bosses talk about her as if she is already dead, saying they only need to pretend otherwise for "morale". Survives, but later on loses bid to adopt Russian orphan due to suicide attempt. Dumped at the alter because she didn't love her fiance as much as he loved her. Has to sleep with Ron Eldard. Boyfriend eventually goes cuckoo after being responsible for the death of best friend/partner in apartment fire, and she is forced to dump him. Has financial troubles due to cut shifts. Finally ends up in stable relationship with Doug Ross, which is put on hold due to work scandal which causes him to leave town and implicates her clinic, which she is forced to hand over to others. Gives birth to Doug's twins alone and barely survives childbirth. Has single mother related woes. End of bad luck is remedied when she decides to stop jerking everybody else around and move to Seattle with Doug Ross.
(Yes, I know that Julianna Margulies had a lrelationship with Ron Eldard at the time he was on the show. But for ME, personally, I have to say that I would consider it victimizing to have sex with him).
I include this character with reservations. She isn't well-liked on these boards, and that's because she did a lot of victimizing herself. She cheated on her first fiance and Doug Ross. She spent a lot of time jerking the men in her lives around because she could not make a decision about Doug. She totally used and manipulated Luka because she couldn't deal with her own issues. The giving birth in isolation/single mother woes are difficult to sympathize with since it was well established that she ignored Doug's attempts to help her out during her pregnancy and resisted reconciling with him after the kids were born, although she alter admitted that she really wanted to all along. Whatever you think about that last part, whether it was right or not, the truth is that she could have helped herself out a bit.
There is also the fact that the woman gets to spend the rest of her life having (apparently) mind-blowing sex with a man who happens to look just like George Clooney. That is not too victimizing at all. Perhaps we can say, for her, that it evens out :)

If we're going with ER characters, hands down, Kerry Weaver.
Has mysterious limp which caused her pain in her hip but was never explained, adopted as a child, adoptive parents died, never able to find birth parents despite searching, hated by the staff so much they threw a party on a day she wasn't there, didn't have sex or date anyone for years, when she finally did it was a skeevy guy from a managed care type organization that only used her for sex and dumped her, didn't date anyone after that until she suddenly becomes a lesbian with the great Kim Legaspi who on one of their first dates invites all of her exes to join them, gets dumped by said wonderful lover because she doesn't back her up enough with TPTB (although she tries), targeted by Romano, her boss because of her sexuality, mocked by coworkers throughout her career (including Doug, Susan and Dave. Doug went as far as to actually mock her limping and speech), gets a girlfriend in Sandy, who outs her in front of the entire ER, they get back together and Weaver gets pregnant and loses the child, has a baby with Sandy and Sandy dies in a fire, then Sandy's family tries to take custody of the baby away from Kerry.
Also? She found the bodies of Lucy and Carter in S6, stabbed and on the floor. Had to deal with Dead!Lucy as well. Oh, and she gets no screentime in favor of more annoying people like Abby, that's the worst injustice of all.

Hmm... when I think about it, maybe Wesley from Angel is the most victimized - although most of it is brought about because of his stupidity.
- Gets fired from Watcher's Council.
- Gets shot in the gut from zombie cop.
- When finally in leadership position, finds a prophecy that states Angel will kill his son, so he kidnaps him only to get his throat slit.
- Finds that the prophecy was completely false and then Angel tries to suffocate him.
- After getting involved with Lilah, she's killed and he has to cut off her head.
