On the subject of DVDs, i recently registered with tvshowsondvd.com, and Daria currently ranks 48th in total votes, once again establishing that there's a reasonable demand for them.

How many shows were listed total?
chica345
Tracy is hawking for Hair Cuttery. Stupid ads, but everthing sounds better in the Daria voice. But why would you want that voice for your ad anyway? It's so dead and unattached (not a bash on Tracy, but not good for advertising).

Quite a bit. The site's database of shows is immense. So, 48th is a pretty good ranking. I'm not sure what kind of clout they have, but at least there's some proof of high demand other than the DVDaria petition.

TV Shows on DVD is a GREAT sight; I came on to this thread to mention it. It's actually starting to get fair prominence (sp, I know) among cult show followers, like Family Guy, Roswell and Kids in the Hall (so much so that the troupe recruited them to help spread the word that their new DVDs were coming out).

If I were you, I'd register with them, and vote vote away for Daria. (Fair warning: the webmaster doesn't like Daria's voice too much)

Also, if there is any news at all, this site usually always knows first.
Brn2bwild
I voted on that site a while back; I have a link to it on my own site.

No one's posted here for a while, so I figured I'd bump it up. I think the first episode I ever saw was the one in which everyone thinks that everyone else is an alien or an atomic Communist. Good times.

Also, I don't remember what this line is from, but it cracks me up: "An image of Christ? In a half-eaten candy bar? Talk about my sweet Lord! The immaculate confection, next, on Sick Sad World."
FigNewton
Yeah sick sad world was the best part of the show. After awhile I got tired of hearing Quin bitch and squeal about such nonsense as "cute shoesies" and was compelled to keep surfing the tube for more annoying programs to fill the void of my day.
Schwartzvald
The all-time funniest line from SSW...

Quinn: "...Go watch something educational!"
Sick Sad World: "Breast implants for chickens???"
Daria & Quinn: "Not that!"

--from "Write Where It Hurts"
The Pez
I've been watching it on the N! Which is a crappy channel, so I decided to download some episodes. I'm watching "Daria!" as we speak. Daria singing is just priceless!

This is a greeeeat show

Once again Noggin listed Daria the musical, but I knew they wouldn't show it, most likely cause of the god god damn it song.
My tivo caught Through A Lens Darkly, it's one of my favs cause it shows Daria is human too, I love the scene when she admits to sheer vanity and Janes response.
The Pez
I love the God God Damn It song.

I'm going to the DVD store and try to find Is it Fall/College Yet? Are they good?
Nflux Forever
I heard they edited a bunch of stuff out of IICY so you might want to wait until it airs on the N again but IIFY should be worth your money.
The Pez
Thanks Nflux, I'll get IIFY then. My fav ep that I've seen so far is either 'Daria!' or 'Psycho Therepy'
Brn2bwild
Hey, would any of you guys be interested in adding to the Daria Wikki page that my friend set up? Basically you can fill in as much background behind the cultural references as you want.

They're both good, although MTV had the audacity to put the edited-for-television version of IICY? onto DVD rather than the uncut version. However, if you haven't watched the uncut, you won't notice. The IICY? DVD is a little nicer, and even includes an "easter egg" featuring a "Beavis and Butthead" scene with Daria.

IIFY? is the uncut version, but -- if you give a damn about music -- it contains a different (inferior) end song to the original.

Also, if you go to Borders, you'll probably be out of luck. Suncoast may still carry them. Your best bet, though, would probably be to order online.
yb125
Although I'm annoyed that they put a cut for TV version on a DVD it least there are some nice extras, and for about 10 bucks it figure it's worth it since I'll also get Lucky Strike which is one of my favs.

I've been feeding my sudden Daria craving with reading Outpost-Daria.com reviews, summaries, and transcripts of eps. There are also a handful of VHS tapes out there, but they don't have anything extra and don't use the original background music
jegrant
I sure wish "The N" would show Daria!: The Musical at least once before they dump the series entirely. (I hate to say it, but the current limited schedule seems to be the last gasp. There are a few late-night Friday airings also, but I don't get the impression Daria will be coming back to prime time anytime soon.)

Curse The N!
Why-o-why must they banish this show to the middle of the night?
It was so convenient before.
The Pez
Just saw "Is it College Yet" and it really sucked. No offence to anyone that liked it

Marathon on the N right now and all night.

What did you dislike specifically? Personally, I didn't love it, didn't hate it.

On the West Coast, it's on at 11 pm, so I can still catch it. Especially now that they're showing the putrid 9th season of "Roseanne" on Nick at Nite.

I thought it was too serious for Daria, and nothing like the show. I expected a lot more, and it delt with too much. And Daria wasn't dead-pan
Brn2bwild
I thought both movies were too serious, but this one came closest to reestablishing the Daria + spine from Seasons One and Two. The plotlines that put me off were Barch/O'Neill and Quinn's Afterschool Special.
yb125
I was always pretty Meh on "Is it College Yet?" I like "Is It Fall Yet?", probably cause I enjoy the "seriousness" of it. Since Daria was cancelled I though the entire 5th season and last movie had to rush through everything.
Brn2bwild
IIFY? gets the edge because it finally pushed along some much-needed character development and had, perhaps, the best plotline of them all -- Jane and Allison. I also love to hate the Daria/Tom plotline, where instead of confronting their guilt (or at least Daria's guilt) over hurting Jane, it becomes all about Daria's inability to get close to someone. In the words of Sandi, what-ever.
Evil_Eve
I didn't really like either of the movies. I don't really know what it was that I didn't like though... possibly the lack of humor.
The Pez
possibly the lack of humor.

Word. I was actually bored half way through. And they got in to racial issues with Mack and Jodie which pissed me off, they dealed with alcholic problems with Quinn and that waitress, and such.
jr1234
In regards to the Tom/Daria plotline, I hated it. Not because of Tom, because I actually kind of liked him, but because of Daria. I feel it was a character assasignation because her character is very loyal to her friends, and friends don't get togther w/ best friend's boyfriend. So, I felt it was totally out of character and that is what pissed me off about Tom/Daria. Plus, I'm a Daria/Trent shipper at heart.
Brn2bwild
It bugged me that they could never adequately explain why Daria would date Tom for weeks all the while knowing how upset it made Jane. I reached the conclusion that Jane probably did the avoidance thing that she does from time to time (ex: "The Misery Chick") and maybe hid out in the art room during her last few weeks of school to avoid having to spend a lot of time with Daria, claiming that a "big project" kept her there out of necessity. Daria might sense that Jane wasn't completely fine with her dating Tom, but since she couldn't prove it conclusively (and a part of her was afraid to), she didn't confront the issue until that scene in the beginning of IIFY?.
skyegazer
I hated Tom. What a borring character. Why was the Daria/Trent thing dropped so ubruptly? and exacly how old was Trent? I remeber an episode were Jane commented that of the 2 of them, only he was old enough to drink.
JoeyTango
Tom was what made me stop making an effort to come home and watch. They were better off without him.

I had somehow lost track of Daria during its final season, so the Tom/Daria thing came as a shock to me. I was like, who is that cute boy? And why is Daria - oh. Oh. Oh.

I always liked the Trent/Daria, but loved it even more when Trent was the one who finally pushed Daria & Jane back to talking during their little disagreement.

Er, major fallout from betrayal.

This episode is one of my favorites. Just hit me in the right place.
MegaJ
I just wanted to post that this is one of those few shows that never jumped the shark, IMO. I was surprised to see the strong feelings towards Tom, I thought he opened a new dimension to the show.
catndahat
I was re-reading Fast Food Nation the other day and it reminded me of the episode where the soda company "sponsors" Lawndale High, but they have to sell so much soda to get the money. The halls were plastered in signage and there were machines every other foot, and Ms. Li tells the football players they'll get a grade bump for every 10 cans they drink. There's even a gigantic logo on the roof of the school. There was a high school in Texas that had a Dr. Pepper logo on its roof, and here I thought that it was just an invention of the show. Go figure.

I love Trent, I never liked Tom- the one where Daria gets her navel pierced (and Trent holds her hand) has some of my favorite moments.
IvySpice
There is nothing I don't adore about this show, primarily because I WAS Daria in high school. The glasses, the mousy hair, the crunchy boots, the cynicism, the whole works. The physical resemblance, in particular, is kind of uncanny. Due to the tininess of my high school, the only thing I didn't have, unfortunately, was a fellow smart weirdo best friend.

Word that this show never jumped the shark. In real life, yes, the Tom relationship would probably have happened freshman year of college rather than during high school, but given that the show was permanently in Lawndale, I thought it was a very real and accurate progression for the character.

Edit: also, I thought it was TOTALLY convincing that Daria is endlessly crushing on Trent and can never have him. If she'd ended up with her fantasy man it would have destroyed the realism of the show. I speak from experience -- the dowdy, bookish cynic does NOT date the sexy, damaged rock star in high school.
ajra

Colorado Springs (CO) School District 11 has had a sponsorship deal with Coke for quite a few years. (I've heard they were to first to do so.) They only sell Coke products in the schools and for a while, had Coke logos on the busses. (They now sell ad space on the busses, but most still have a Coke logo on the back.)

the one where Daria gets her navel pierced (and Trent holds her hand) has some of my favorite moments.

Is this the one where Trent has a date at the end? Seeing Daria at the window just tears my heart.

I used to work for this media company, who's founding doctrine was just that: plaster high schools (and the occasional JR High) with as much advertising as possible, and coerce the schools to participate for much needed funds. It was totally evil, and I couldn't stop referencing Fizz Ed.

Sick, sad world indeed.

Yeah! The girl comes into the piercing place to get something for her nose ring... what was her name? She was wicked skinny and had black hair streaked with red, I think. Oh, this is gonna drive me nuts.
ajra
Oops. Monique is in the piercing ep, but Trent doesn't have a date with her at the end. Now, it's gonna bug me until I find that ep - I know Jane & Trent were staying with the Morgendorfer's for some reason, because Jane and Quinn walked up behind Daria at the window.

Found it: It's Lane Miserables. The one where Daria has the fantasy about being (almost) married to Trent. I hated seeing Trent as a fat lazy slob.
Brn2bwild
Here's an interview with Mike Judge, which has a reference to Daria.

Great news!! For the whole month of August, The-N is ging to show "Daria: The Lost Episodes." I'm assuming they're gonna show most of the episodes they've never shown before. It starts Friday July 30th at 9:30p ET with "College Bored."

It's kinda sad how excited this makes me. I haven't seen a lot of these "lost episodes" since it originally aired on MTV. Kudos to the-n for actually listening to the viewers.

I'm pretty sure we've been teased about this before, so I'm taking this news with a grain of salt. However, if Noggin does come through, kudos to them for getting the message that these episodes aren't "bad."

What gets me is Quinn just being there. Since we know Daria wasn't into "sharing" with her sister, it's interesting to imagine Quinn was sensitive enough to figure out Daria's crush.

I stopped watching Daria for a long time, and only started watching again a month ago. And I gotta ask, WTF is this Girls vs. Boys CRIZAP? Is it like the (gag) Real World/Road Rules Challenge for 16-year-olds? Because if the stuff they're showing in the commercials leads where I think it does....well, I'm having trouble understanding why certain episodes of Daria would be cut for being too racy.
joanne3482
sarcasmdetected I totally agree about Write Where It Hurts. That is probably my all time favorite episode. It just shows so much about what Daria really wants from her family, but isn't really getting.

It will be nice to see the "Lost Episodes" since I don't believe I've seen every episode they've made of Daria.

No need to be skeptical. You can check out the Daria message board on the-n.com The-Val, one of the-n moderator, posted the news. Not some fan.

Anyways, she says they're gonna show 8 unaired episodes, but I'm pretty sure they haven't shown more than 8. Does anyone know how many episodes the-n hasn't shown and which ones? I would like to know which ones are they still planning to skip.

This episode (write where it hurts) is one of my favorites. Just hit me in the right place.

Yes yes yes! Hands down this is my favorite episode of Daria. I hate to admit it, but I actually cried when I saw it (towards the end). The beginning was hillarious, especially the Pride/Prejudice version.

Lost episodes, eh? sounds "intense".

OK, that makes me feel better about the situation.

As for unaired episodes, here's the list to the best of my recollection:
College Bored
Cafe Disaffecto
I Don't
Ill (maybe, I'm not sure)
Daria!
My Night at Daria's
Boxing Daria

That's six confirmed and one maybe, so that's probably not all of them.
sarcasmdetected
Yea! Daria! might actually be aired. That is definetely one I'd like to see. Thanks to all for posting this exciting news...
Iduh
So the N is currently one of the very few channels showing Daria? That doesn't do much to help us living in Canada....anybody know what are the chances of a channel airing in Canada showing Daria are? I think that YTV showed Daria a few years back, but I don't think they are now...are they?

Edited to ask: I'm trying to find out the name of an episode of Daria, about Quinn getting hung up on plastic surgery, and wanting a nose job, but decided not to because some other girl at school got a nose job, but it turned all screwy. Can anybody help me out?

Also This Year's Model (106), Fat Like Me (503), Speedtrapped (310), Murder She Snored (404) (which I could do without), and Just Add Water (312).

Awesome they're finally getting aired! I wonder if they'll cut the Daria-Jane conversation at the beginning of "I Don't," where Jane talks about flying a plane with hostages.

On an unrelated note, I want to urge those of you who haven't to vote for Daria at TV Shows on DVD. Currently the show is ranked 42, with 1,227 votes... less than 1,000 more votes can put it in the Top Ten. The tenth is currently occupied by The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. with 2,136. You have to register, but it's easy.
