I know there's some discussion of Oliver and Christian in the Gay Storylines thread, but after starting to watch because of that story, I got hooked on some of the other storylines this show. My German's pretty rudimentary at best, but this show (or at least the storylines I'm following) is just so much more engaging than other soaps I've seen.

I really like Judith, though I'll admit I was a bit confused as to why she took the room in the apartment given that she quickly picked up on Oliver and Christian's budding relationship and how Christian yelled at her when she confronted him about it. That's a great way to start a roommate situation. I think she and Christian have good non-sexual chemistry on screen together. I do love how infatuated Fabian is with her, too, though her lack of self-confidence has been getting a little over the top.

I also really like Olivia as Oliver's foil. I know it's a soap, so everyone's supposed to be melodramatic, but I love how she's such a pot-stirrer. Oliver's really lucky to have her and Charlie to rely on.

I thought Christian's dream today was really revealing of his fears--despite the fact that we've seen his brother isn't homophobic, he's got some serious internalized homophobia. Not that it wasn't hinted at earlier, but his main fear seems to be disappointing people. He's going to need some major support through the whole coming at process. But hey, if it gives us more dream sequences like today's, I'm not complaining!

Thank you for creating this thread, Tyran.

Wow. Wow. Wow.

Thore/Christian definitely looks great in a white shirt. Yummy Yummy Yummy.

OMG - Oliver's on his mind all the time. He definitely has it bad and during the club scene, Thore portrayed Christian's jealously perfectly. He makes sure that Oliver's constantly within his sight, he tries to pay attention to his "date" (Miriam - poor girl), but he's always looking at what Oliver's doing and then when he sees that the guy (who's dancing with him has his hands all over his butt AND he called him "Tasty Ass"), you could see the level of jealously going off the charts.

I'm really excited about today's episode.

Does anyone else need a cigarette.

Oh my!!

The moment of Oliver pressing his hands up against the window of Christian's bedroom door begging him to open up and let him in (in all aspects, romantic/emotional/sexual) was so touching. It seemed like he wasn't ever going to leave that door, until Christian unlocked that door.

I loved Oliver's persistance in not backing down from what they both want: EACH OTHER.

btw - This is the very first time (IMO) that Sia's song "Breathe Me" as ever been used properly since it was used during the series finale of Six Feet Under. The words fit perfectly in today's scenes between Christian and Oliver.

Thore and Jo have amazing chemistry and they really know how to give onscreen kisses. They generate so much heat between each other, with just little glances, touches and words that it's just too damn hot.

Where might someone in the US find this sho? And is it in German?
montferrat
Hi oval,
On YT. So far there is 43 clips from the Oliver/Christian storyline. 34 of the 43 episodes so far have been subtitled in English. The story is current so more are added as the episodes air.

Here's a playlist with all of them. Anything subtitled is labled in the title of the clip.

Or if you want to check out the whole episodes with all characters, but not subtitled you can check out:

They put up stuff Monday thru Friday.

I'm in love with this story, the characters of Oliver, Christian, Judith, Gregor, Olivia and any other character associated with this pairing (except for Timo - I didn't think he was that hot for a one-night stand) and TWPIC (The Wonderful People in Charge) of bringing this storyline to an audience from around the world.

Bravo!!!

So, I just started watching with the subtitles. What's Gregor up to? And, will he be freaked out if he learns that Christian is gay?

I also just started watching. The first clip I saw was the Tom and Ulli one that was posted to the forums here. I think I've gotten most of their story, but I was wondering if someone could clarify a couple of points for me.

Before Tom came to Dusseldorf, where was he from? I read somewhere that Ulli thought that Tom had done something to Nick, but that Tom was an old friend of Nick's covering for his affair. And that when Tom and Ulli became friends, at one time Ulli thought Tom and this other guy (Christian Toppe, I think) were lovers. Is that all right?

Also, when Tom got a "dream job" and left for Nepal, what was the job? Were he and Ulli back together at this point, or was their reconciliation only off screen?

I know the details don't really matter much, but I'm just curious.

If anyone knows any of the answers, thanks :)

De-lurking for the first time in what must be nearly a year to mention how much I love the Ollian storyline. It's just been incredibly well-handled throughout, and with stuff like the steroids mini-arc it's nice to see them giving them something to do that isn't centred around their sexuality. Granted, the beard arc was a bit of a misstep, but they seem to be hastily brushing that under the carpet so that's fair enough.

I also really like Olivia as Oliver's foil. I know it's a soap, so everyone's supposed to be melodramatic, but I love how she's such a pot-stirrer. Oliver's really lucky to have her and Charlie to rely on.

Definitely - she's an utter wench, but strangely likeable at the same time. And Charlie rocks - everyone should have an aunt like her.

Also, when Tom got a "dream job" and left for Nepal, what was the job? Were he and Ulli back together at this point, or was their reconciliation only off screen?

I think, though I'm not sure, that Tom and Ulli were still broken-up when he left, but in some kind of special following up on major couples of the show a few years later it was revealed that they were back together. Whether that was on or off-screen, I couldn't tell you I'm afraid.

I managed to catch this soap last month when I was in Dusseldorf. I'm studying German in college in Ireland so I can pretty much get the gist of what's going on with my limited German skills. Anyway I'd like to chime into the Ollian love. They're so hot together! So I pretty much left at the start of July when Olivia (love her!) sent a sex tape to Nathalie (I think, there are a lot of blonde girls on this show). I should really check out the vids on you(know where)tube, because I really want to know what crazy stuff Olivia gets up to next (and it's educational!). I've a question, do the rich family interact much with the "average" characters. I didn't see much while I was watching?
LolaRuns
The sex tapes episodes were hilarious. I laughed so much when Olivia came out from the other room and started making fun of the type of sex noises Kitty makes.

I read spoilers that Tanja frames Nathalie for a crime and to save her Ansgar agress to marry Tanja and they actually go through with it.

I have mixed feelings about this. I so look forward to Tanja marrying into the Lahnstein family like that. On the other hand I'm very dubious about Nathalie going back to Ansgar (which is obviously what they are building up to) considering he treated her so horribly when they were married
.

As for the Lahnsteins... it depends who they have a storyline with I guess. Ansgar and Nathalie used to hang out with Gregor and Gregor's then girlfriend Max when they were triangling/quadrangling. Same or Jana/Leonard/Sarah/Gregor. And of course there was a lot of interaction between Nico and Jana when they were still around. I guess it mostly depends on whether they have a love interest from "outside". Carla of course spends time around her sperm donor baby daddy Lars. I remember her going to an exhibition with Charlie at times. Gregor used to be friends with Ansgar and Leonard. Nico used to live with the teenset. Sebastian hangs around Lydia's family and so on....

Speaking of which, as nice as Ollian are, I've really been falling big time for Constantin in the recent episodes. For a change he really gets to strut his stuff and isn't even that bad at it. I wondering if there is a chance for him and Judith after all. I also saw some sparks between him and Rebecca in their arguments, which confuses me since the bios seems to suggest that she is for Gregor. Mostly I really want some sort of girlfriend on his side who will side with him against Adrian and ideally butt heads with Adrian.

I think, though I'm not sure, that Tom and Ulli were still broken-up when he left, but in some kind of special following up on major couples of the show a few years later it was revealed that they were back together. Whether that was on or off-screen, I couldn't tell you I'm afraid.

Ulli was long off the show when Tom got his dream job offer. It was like this:

Tom and Ulli together
Ulli gets a job in a different city. After some soulsearching they break up.
After some grieving time Tom starts dating Olli
Ulli comes back, he and Tom do the deed
Tom still picks Olli. Ulli leaves
Tom and Olli stay a couple for about a year longer
Tom and Olli break up
Tom has a long and boring storyline about wanting to have a sperm donor baby with Jule
Things with Jule don't work out
Tom gets a dream job offer

In the reunion episode it is revealed that Tom and Ulli met up later and made up.

I'm sketchy on what exactly the job offer was but since Tom was a doctor I assume it had to do with research of helping people.
enness2000
Ah, thank you for summing that up LolaRuns - I know I read a similar summary from you on AE or GoD, but I couldn't remember where so I was paraphrasing from memory.

I've really been falling big time for Constantin in the recent episodes. For a change he really gets to strut his stuff and isn't even that bad at it. I wondering if there is a chance for him and Judith after all.

This actually seems quite likely, given that Fabian is leaving soon, and thus Judith will need another love interest. As for him and Rebecca, it seems unlikely right away given that Rebecca (as you said) has been tipped for Gregor for ages now. But if the producers see the same spark there everyone else seems to, who knows? Future quadrangle opportunities abound!
LolaRuns
I have to say I had a shiver running down my spine in the scene where Constantin said that from now on he will only look out for himself (after rejecting his father's and his family's apology). Let's hope Judith doesn't end up as the Nathalie to his Ansgar :D

So far Gregor and Rebecca aren't really blowing me away, but you never know. VL is pretty good in making you buy into things when you never thought you would. I thought it would be disgusted at Sarah and Leonard making moves to reunite after her drug addiction considering how they screwed over Jana and Gregor, but they actually managed to make the whole thing quite touching.

Hello, I'm from Germany and have watched this soap irregulary. I'm interested, where in the USA can you see "Verbotene Liebe" and are other German soaps broadcasted there as well?
LolaRuns
You can't, but certain storylines are put up on youtube with subtitles. Yes, Americans watching something with subtitles. I'm shocked myself.
Hick
Thank you very much, Lola.

Wow, a VL thread!

Confession right off the bat: all I've seen of VL is the Christian/Oliver storyline on YouTube. Went through 102 videos in about a week and that was only because I forced myself to stop watching!

I was quite surprised at the pacing of the Ollian storyline. They packed so much in less than a year's time, I believe. If this was on an American soap, that would've been enough material for years.

Other than immensely enjoying the Ollian storyline, from what I've seen, loving Olivia as the resident soap bitch and her relationship with Oliver. Also loving Judith but why oh why did she pick Fabian over Constantin? I believe Fabian is now out of the picture? And not really seeing any chemistry between Gregor and Rebecca.
Blair P.
When when WHEEEENNNN is Olli coming back to this show? Will Christian and Olli have a storyline anytime soon?

And, for those who watch the whole show, is the number of comings and goings normal for a German soap? I only watch the Olli and Christian story (I have very weak German skills) and in that storyline alone over the past year the show has lost Coco, Jana, Lars, Fabian (no loss), and Constantine (is that his name?). It's like a revolving door.
LolaRuns
The first official date we have for Olli back is January 27th.

As for spoilers/storyline These are the compiled Ollian spoilers for 2009 so far:

2009:

Week 1: (just one day, no Christian)
Week 2: No Christian spoiler [this is the week we are in currently]
Week 3: (only 2 days) No Christian spoiler
Week 4: Christian spoiler Jan 22nd&23rd (Gregor borrows money)
Week 5: Olli spoiler Jan 27th (Sasha offends Charlie in front of Olli)
Week 6: Christian spoiler Feb 2nd and 6th (talks to Gregor about Luise)
Week 7: No spoilers
Week 8: No spoilers

Suspicion is that the writers are currently busy launching a lot new couples and characters, including a lesbian couple, possibly even triangle anad that's why there isn't much Ollian airtime at the moment.

However, on his myspace page Jo Weil (Olli) mentioned that he was just off to shoot a scene where a major decision was made in Olli's life [based on the typical VL timing whatever that decision is should show up in the spoilers in one of the next few batches; many were hoping it would show up in the spoilers for week 8, but it could also be for week 10]. He also confirmed in a recent interview that he hopes to stay with VL for a long time.

German soaps do seem to have more of a revolving door than American soap, but the turnover was extreme even for German standards.

I think it's because (IMO) they brought the headwriter who created Ollian on, specifically to make a lot of changes to the canvas. So he wrote out a lot of seasoned characters within his first few months (Andi, Coco, Jana, Susanne, Johannes, Lisa) and brought on a whole slew of new characters (Rebecca/Sebastian, Lydian's entire family). The problem is that his new concept sort of flopped and so a new writer came in (roughly around the same time Olli left for Ibiza) and now they are changing the show around again, trying to fix the changes the previous writer made. Most notably they are bringing a lot of new aristocratic characters and storylines (because one of the big complaints against the Ollian writers was that the show became mostly about the normal characters and that he neglected the aristocratic characters;).
squidge
Well, I quite enjoyed the Olli/Christian reunion. Very well done; integrated into the rest of the scenes, while not trying to underplay it.

I have to say I am very impressed with the acting as well. I think it's better than any of our soaps here in NA...
LolaRuns
I agree, it fit really well into the episode. Thought it's a bit sad that it feels like most of the "gay quota" will probably go to the lesbian storyline for a while (though Carla and Stella are reasonably cute; I find myself wishing they would hook quickly though so we can get back to Christian and Olli).

The new princess seems to be a pretty good actress. I hope the storyline doesn't get too cheesy.

And everytime I want to acknowledge that maybe Lydia and Sebastian are maybe cute after all, you know, if I squint my eyes real hard, they suddenly get gazillions of screentime again and I remember how mindnumblingly boring they are.
pdrf9
Does anyone know when they will finally put Carla and Stella together? I know its not in March. It's it until late April or May.
LolaRuns
Carla and Stella confuses the heck out of me. To me their scenes just scream that they are the story. Way too much intensity between the characters, way too much focus on Carla (if Stella was meant to be with somebody else, why would the story be all about Carla and Carla's feelings). But on the other hand they are not really being telegraphed in the really obvious "meant to be" kind of way VL couples are normally dealt with, particularly when it will take them a long time to be together (like Gregor and Luise or Lydia and Sebastian).

On one hand that makes things pretty exciting because you have no idea where the story will go. On the other hand it is driving me batty.

That said, no, I don't think that anybody knows when they'll hook up. I read some fans plan to the VL anniversary party and want to try and ask Claudia and Anne about it, but I doubt that the actresses can spill much more than what the spoilers already say.
