The scene that totally shocked me was: Stepahnie's stunt double after she got shot. It was so bad and funny at the same time.

At least with Passions, as bad as it is, JERk created it and is fucking up his own creations. With GH, we have Guza killing off core family members with no lasting effects. It's disgusting and I'm so over it. I wish his ass would get fired.

I picked up ATWT because of Nuke and now I'm getting drawn into other storylines. I really enjoy the soap. I was thrilled to see it beat GH in the ratings. Now, I've started watching OLTL after a decade or more of not watching (because of good buzz) and I hope it gets out of the ratings basement. Though, looking at the most recent ratings, I don't see how soaps have much longevity...

Biggest Character Destruction:Tad from AMC. They've truly destroyed him.
worst storyline: The whole Satin Slayer storyline and Dixie's death on AMC. The transgender storyline was also terrible. GH's repetitive, depressing, violent and predictable stories also suck.
Biggest wasted opportunity: TPTB at AMC passing up their chance to hire Kay Alden or bring in fresh writing talent in favor of hiring Esentein and Brown.
Best couple: Patrick and Robin, GH. Luke and Noah, ATWT.
Worst couple: Jonathan and Ava, AMC. And though they weren't technically together when they left the show, Zarf/Zoey and Bianca, AMC.

Worst Couple: Clint & Dorian, OLTL....just no, she belongs with David and he needs to be played by Clint Ritchie
Best New Couple: Bill & Lizzie, GL (not technically a couple but I'm excited for it to happen :) )

Best Story: Asa's death on OLTL and the ensuing fallout, which is still going on (THAT is how you kill off a beloved character, AMC and GH!!!)
Worst Story: poor, sweet Georgie's senseless, violent death on GH, followed closely Dixie's ridonkulous death by poisoned banana pancakes on AMC (with Emily's senseless, violent death on GH coming in a close third), all three are so sadly representative of TPTB's disrespect for women, history, and their fanbase
Best Recast: I got nothing, although I haven't seen Austin Peck on ATWT and apparently I should (never woulda guessed it by his performance on Days!)
Worst Recast: Sabine Singh as Greenlee, AMC (although ABC's treatment of her is reprehensible - what else is new right?)
Hottest actor: Aiden Turner, AMC; Jason Thompson, GH; Tom Pelphrey, GL
Hottest female actor: Robin Christopher and Becky Herbst, GH (maybe not hot so much but gorgeous); Gina Tognoni, GL
Best acting performance (male): Thorsten Kaye, AMC; Jason Thompson, GH; and Tuc Watkins, OLTL (I also adore ATWT's Jesse Soffer but he hasn't had a damn thing to do all year besides be Gwen's yes-man)

Biggest character destruction: Tad Martin, AMC - I haven't even seen it, but I know it's happened - and I'm ridiculously bitter bc he has ALWAYS been my favorite
Biggest character rejuvenation: Bill Lewis, GL - I love that they have completely changed his character from a straight arrow into a charming schemer - Daniel Cosgrove has always played such generic good guys (Bill, Scott Chandler on AMC, Matt on 90210) and done it well but I've always heard how hilarious he is IRL and finally he's gotten a chance to show a bit of a colorful personality on here and Dirty Sexy Money; he's a much more talented guy than I would have thought ten years ago
Best Episode: OLTL's 10,000th ep - great story, fantastic acting, awesome returns (Nathan Fillion and Dan Gauthier playing the Buchanan brothers together made my year! And Max and Cord too!), and wonderful individual scenes (the Buchanan kids all dancing and reminiscing together, Rex sympathizing with Bo, Matthew telling Bo he wants to be just like him when he grows up and then Bo giving Matthew Asa's cowboy hat...sniff)

I try to watch a little of everything.

1) Best soap? I'm going to go with Days of Our Lives here. I have never been a fan of this show but I find myself drawn into the story. Families interact, little propping of characters, history mentioned and used and a committment to keeping the main families stacked. There is no prefect princess types, they bravely kill of vets on screen, and they don't ignore chemistry and have a range of couples in age, style and behavior.

2) Worst soap? AMC. I really just forget its on the air its so bad. And it just breaks rules of everything I watch soaps for--history, hope, fallout and family. Passions because it just doesn't care anymore.

3) Most improved soap? Bold and Beautiful. I think just the fact that the Logans are there and doing something that adds to the overall story makes me so happy. One Life to Live ties here as being the show that gets more days good than not with smart dialogue from people who know the history of the show.

4) Soap with the biggest decline? GH has just fallen so low as of late. Repeating stories and characters (A Masked ball where someone dies, another mob couple kock off with Lulu and Johnny as Sonny and Carly 2.0, another mob war, poinless death of characters who could do more....yuck). Young and the Restless gets a mention for just being dull and slow--no pay off and no passion.

5) Best character (male)? Patrick GH /Luke ATWT For some reason I can't help but be happy when they are on the screen and can't look away--even when they're being asshats.

6) Best character (female)? Maxie GH. I love when a character seems to be saying and feeling what the audience does. She's foul mouth and at points self destrective but also owns herself in a way most characters don't. Ashlee on Guilding Light gets a mention because she is so different than most on daytime--not just in looks but in behavior. If you had told me I would flove a shooter and election rigger--as a GOOD girl--I wouldn't have believed you.

7) Worst character (male)? Tad AMC. He was so great and is now so not. He has lied, killed and been awful to those he shouldn't that I have forgotten why I ever liked him. It's a talent for evil there.

8) Worst character (female)? Lulu GH. She went from dark and twisty to being self important, selfish, shrewish and unwatchable. I usually want her to stuff it.Sheridan on Passions. She is just awful and mean and done so much wrong. I think she is possibly the character in daytime I want to die the most.

9) Best new character? Kate GH. She is smart and tasteful annd witty and uppercrust. I love her look, her words and everything about her as a smart independent woman. Now if she would just get away from Sonny.

10) Worst new character? Jett DAYS. Why? WHY? Honestly I never ever dislike characters the way I did his. Pointless, insulting as a Craver and just a waste of my time.

11) Best couple? Luke and Noah ATWT. I find myself drawn in by the chemistry, the longing and the opposition. I mean--this is not a couple that will ever face the soap staples--no wtd stories, no exes scheming, no awkward triangles, their biggest threats are outside sources and the world that doesn't understand two boys in love. It's different and that's why I love it.

12) Worst couple? Rick and Phoebe Bold and the Beautiful. I just never bought into it--it felt like watching 'To Catch a Pred.' Tied Gus and Natalia and Harley and Cyrus on 'Guilding Light'. I don't get why it had to be done because the chemistry isn't great enough to ruin any of these characters.

13) Best new couple? I'm not sure when Henry and Vienna ATWT got togther but they are the sweetest and funniest characters. I wanna see them more each time I watch and make me long for the hey day of fun goofy pairing likes Eugene and Calliope/Lucy and Kevin/Roxie and Nigel.

14) Worst new couple? Stephanie and Jeremy Days of Our Lives. I just thought it was so messed up the stuff that she put up with and insulting that Michael Horton's son would be that slimely and bad.

15) Best story? Asa's Death OLTL. It is a simple showcase of how good the show as been. So much history and family and all the things I love about soaps. Growth, grief, hope, humor and a great Umbrella Storyline for the various fractions.

16) Worst story? AMC the hole, GH the TMK, Young and the Restless 'Out of the Ashes'. Its like a fight to the death as to which I hate more. They have propping and they both ignore logic and history and they make me with sad or bored or both.

17) Best recast? Austin Peck as Brad on ATWT. I hated him on Days but he is such fun to watch on ATWT. It's a shock and gives hope that anyone can be good. Storm on Bold and Beautiful gets a shout out to because I am feeling the character so much and buy who he is.

18) Worst recast? Marty OLTL is just the worst idea I have ever seen. (And I did like CC on Sunset Beach as Maria) A strong butch kickass charatcer played as a simpering wallflower by someone who couldn't be tough yet tender.

20) Hottest actor (male)? James Scott (EJ) makes me wanna run naked around the city of LA with the hope that we'll see each other. And I hated him on AMC.

21) Hottest actor (female)? Melody Scott Thomas Y&R because she is 51 and rocks it so hard that I am in awe of her.

22) Best acting performance (male)? Luke ATWT. I just feel like I see a real person in his eyes with the joy and sadness and longing.

23) Best acting performance (female)? Melody Scott Thomas (Nikki) during Victoria's coma story. No make up, no pretty and working the words, the gestures and the looks. I really felt like I was watching someone in a real struggle.

24) Biggest character destruction? Paul/Rosanna/Craig on ATWT for the simple reason that I hate all of them now which wasn't the case a few years back. I didn't include Meg because the current verision was never good for me.

25) Biggest character rejuvenation? Belle on Days-I may not root for her but I wanna see what she's doing. Ashley Bold and the Beautiful is such a BETTER character her than Young and the Restless (At least in the last few years.) as she is smart sexy and sophisticated

26) Worst Mistake Being Made in the Genre? Ignoring chemistry. It seems almost every show out there has couples that they seem against even though the chemistry is there. Max and Morgan Days are intrguing, Spinelli and Georgie GH could have been so great, Jill and Ji Min Young and the Restless could have lit the screens ablaze, Henry and Vienna ATWT are together but don't have any story at all... Then there are the chemistry free pairings being forced down our throats. Ava Guilding Light with ANYONE ONE (Though Gus and Natalia tie) Karen and Neil on Young and the Restless, Lulu with Johnny on GH, Greenlee and Aiden AMC, Cole and Starr OLTL, Sheridan and Luis Passion....

And finally, what was the scene this year that totally shocked you - in a good or bad way - and you still remember? GOOD Georgie's death GH. Her body on the stairs, sprawled out as snow falls over her still freaks me out and makes me teary. (I have actually had a dream about this already.) BAD Dru's death Young and the Restless. The slow motion, the actors seemingly out of control and just the tragic foolishness still make me lose my breath.

I'm one of the people who hated him on DOOL. He was so, so bad. He laughed through most of his serious lines, used the wide-eyed expression for every emotion, and came across as a moron. However, I absolutely love him as Brad on ATWT. I am so shocked, but it's true. I think he has found his type, plus I would wager he had some acting lessons. His is one of my favorite characters on this new soap I picked up.

Soap with Biggest Decline: Y&R. Why bother giving Nick amnesia if they weren't planning on doing anything big with it? Why does Gloria never pay? Why recast Colleen?

Best Character (male): Doesn't matter the year, it will always be David Vickers (hilarious) and Jack Abbott (surprisingly still complex). Kevin on Y&R is also amusing.

Best Character (female): This is so tricky and difficult. I will always love Stephanie on BB because the show isn't afraid to make her awful but I haven't watched in a while. I am regaining my love for Katie on ATWT.

Worst character (male)? Zach Slater; smug little asshole though while in the hole, I am liking him a bit better

Worst character (female)? There are so many! I'll go with Lulu and Liz (total ass to Lucky) on GH.

Best new character? I am liking Jared on OLTL. I know Brad Synder is an old character on ATWT but he's new to me so I vote for him as well.

Worst new character? Jett; I don't need to explain. Just watch him act.

Best couple? The couples I'm most excited to see lately are Jared/Natalie (OLTL) and Brad/Katie (ATWT). I like the stability of Bo & Hope as well though Hope is grating on my nerves lately.

Worst couple? Jack and Carly. They make each other so miserable. Also Shelle (anti-chemistry) and Phelle (JKJ carries this) because they only want what they want when they cannot have it.

Best new couple? Aidan and Greenlee in theory; one's a prissy princess, reviled by the town and hung up on her mess-up past. The other has a mysterious history we still haven't gotten into, but we know he's trained like MacGuyver. Plus he's hot.

Worst new couple? Aidan and Greenlee in execution.

Best story? Asa's death because it brought a lot of people into one story.

Worst story? ALL GH and AMC storylines. Every single one of them.

Best recast? I'm going with the majority on this one: Austin Peck as Brad Synder on ATWT (he can act, y'all and he's funny). He ties with Jay Kenneth Johnson as Phillip on Days (so happy he reprised the role)

Worst recast? Greenlee on AMC. I tried to give her a chance but it didn't work.

Hottest actor (male)? Oh so many. The guy who plays EJ on Days (even though he's a little scrawny), Peter Bergman (Shut up! He's hot even though he's older), Aidan Turner (but I cannot understand a damn word he says), the guy who plays Lucky on GH (hot but dumb), Tuc Watkins. I think my favorite, though, is Jay Kenneth Johnson on Days.

Hottest actor (female)? Nadia Borjlin (Chloe) is pretty hot even though she can't act. Gina Tognoni (sp?)

Best acting performance (male)? It's always going to be Peter Bergman on Y&R as Jack Abbott because even if the character is written poorly at times, he gives it gravity.

Best acting performance (female)? Very predictable but Susan Flannery. I know it's not cool to agree with the award show choices but she's amazing.

Biggest character destruction? I'm not even going to start down this road.

I mostly just lurk here, but I had to reply to this thread because I am mystified at how many in these forums think DAYS is the best soap on the air right now. If this is the "best," then our standards have fallen considerably. I know GH gets bashed a lot for the direction it has taken. Maybe it's a matter of which soap you're most invested in, but for me, give me GH over DAYS any time. GH certainly has room for improvement -- vast improvement, in fact -- but at least the stories generally advance at greater than a snail's pace and the dialogue is not so insipid as to sound like it was penned by a six-year-old. Nor does it render me comatose. I would take Reilly's DAYS over this current incarnation, and that's saying somethin', let me tell you.

The budding romance between Sonny and Kate is what makes GH watchable. On DAYS, it pains me to say it, but the campus rape storyline is the most entertaining story going right now.
Worst story? The absurd Vendetta storyline on DAYS
Hottest character (male)? Patrick Drake, GH (even tho he's a heel for what he did to Robin)

Best acting performance (female)? Never thought I'd see the day where I would say this because I loathed her on DAYS, but Kirsten Storms rocked it with Georgie's death this week. Props to Deidre Hall and Martha Madison in the John's death story, too.
Biggest character destruction? Pretty much anyone involved in the Liason/Lusam quad; Carly on GH for berating Jax for getting raped; and if it counts as destruction, the complete absence of the Fab Four on DAYS for the first half of this year. Belle on DAYS, for being the least self-aware character I've seen in a long time.
Biggest character rejuvenation? Chelsea on DAYS. Making this character likeable was no easy task. Congrats to DAYS on a successful redemption.

In the last five years, I've had to ditch longtime shows (AMC, OLTL, Y&R) out of frustration, though OLTL is improving, I only watch one now, which mostly keeps me happy. I hope we still have soaps around in the next five years. My answers are from ATWT unless otherwise stated.

My answers are extremely Days and AMC heavy, but...


1) Best soap? Days. Things seemed a little iffy for a while there (especially during the JERk years), but with the new team in place and gelling, Days has really hit its stride. There's something in it for everyone and I find myself genuinely entertained and excited for the next installment as opposed to pissed off all the time (which is a major improvement!). There are definitely some hot-button issues (EJami, anyone?), but I like that there are plenty of other stories to catch when I get tired of the well-spoken debates around here.

2) Worst soap? Hands down: Passions. This is the kind of crap that gives all soaps a bad name. I swear, it just won't die! It really is a shame, too. It did have some potential in the beginning, but JERk's poison pen managed to drag it so far down that even Dante himself would have wondered what a television show did to earn a spot in the eighth circle of Hell.

3) Most improved soap? Days (see question one for an explanation).

4) Soap with the biggest decline? AMC. Zen drew me in, but with everything being so focused on the plot (Babies in Peril 24/7, and WTH was the purpose of the Kaiden revisit?!) as opposed to character, even my Zen love is starting to show a little tarnish.

5) Best character (male)? Oh dear... My first love is (and always will be) Steven Earl Johnson. Zach Slater has crept in while I wasn't looking, though. Why do I seem to have a thing for guys with Daddy issues?

6) Best character (female)? Kayla Johnson (the only genuinely good girl in soaps that manages to stay interesting and non-GHH while still being completely faithful, non-judgmental, and loved by all who know her) and Chelsea Brady (this is how a bad girl with a good heart should be).

7) Worst character (male)? Pretty much any of the dumbass beefcakes on Passions is a given, but aside from that... Jett Carver was absolutely pointless. Sadly enough, I hated him for the same reason I hate the Passions boys. As a matter of fact, I feel the same about the current incarnation of Shawn-Duh Brady. When it comes to self-righteous asshattery, though, that prize goes to a couple AMC boys: Jackson Montgomery and Tad Martin.

8) Worst character (female)? Marlena Black. This ever-in-distress damsel just needs to grow the hell up and realize that she's not a gasping teenager anymore.

9) Best new character? Morgan Hollingsworth. I was a little hesitant at first, but the character has proven to be a breath of fresh air (not to mention new blood) to a show that had become a little too shallow in the breeding pool.

10) Worst new character? The (thankfully) brief Jed Stark. This guy made grade-school extras look like master thespians.

11) Best couple? S&K and Zen. Both pairs have off-the-charts chemistry, a soul-deep understanding of one another, an acceptance of all quirks and flaws, and can bring the angst and/or fun as the situation demands.

12) Worst couple? Jerica. I know they used to be pretty hot stuff, but this current incarnation makes me want to scream every time I see them together. It's the perfect example of a couple torn apart one (two, three thousand...) too many times.

13) Best new couple? Chick. They got off to a shaky start, with storylines rife with stereotypes and frustratingly stupid misunderstandings, but the actors have managed to make what could have been a trite pairing of "Beauty and the Geek" into a refreshing view of young love.

14) Worst new couple? Graidan. This really could have been a decent mutual growth romance. Instead, with the combination of sub-par acting and writers who wouldn't know an emotional beat if it spit in their faces, we got a rushed and non-sensical insta-love and a HUG!OF!LIFE!

15) Best story? It's actually something small that gets my vote here. I think that the ongoing issues between Steve and Stephanie on Days are absolutely fascinating. Throughout many of the big storylines (Jerkemy's arrival, DiVendetta, Campus Rapist), we've seen the realistic relationship between a daughter who loves her father, but really cannot understand or trust him due to his absence all of her life, and a father struggling to be there for the little girl he has never known.

16) Worst story? The Tarot Card/BSC!Steve, Tinda Lau, Touch My Thighs, Kaiden Grief Sex and the Greenlee Redemption, Tad/Krustal/Adam redux No. 24,601

17) Best recast? Of just 2007? Hmmm... I would say SH as Stephanie, but I just don't think it's a fair comparison since SR had total crap to work with during her run.

18) Worst recast? I guess SS as Greenlee, but (again) it's a case of crappy material. I've seen some pretty viewable stuff from the actress, but the writing just makes her so unrootable.

20) Hottest actor (male)? Stephen Nichols, James Scott, and (totally out of left field, since I normally like more lean men) Thorsten Kaye.

21) Hottest actor (female)? Kristen Alfonso and Mary Beth Evans are still downright stunning after all of these years. Rachel Melvin has an absolutely gorgeous smile, but the girl could use a little meat on her bones.

22) Best acting performance (male)? Thorsten Kaye. The man has consistently taken the dreck that the writers have thrown at him and made it an authentic extension of his character. Case and Point: The Day of Inner Monologues.

23) Best acting performance (female)? Mary Beth Evans. The woman strives to inject every scene with who "Kayla Johnson" really is. You can practically see the history play out in her eyes. A perfect example of "Show, Don't Tell."

24) Biggest character destruction? Tad and Kendall. One has become a hypocritical murderer, while the other has cheated on the husband she adores for NO REASON!

25) Biggest character rejuvenation? Strangely enough, Belle Black. She's still a self-entitled little twit, but now that people are actually starting to call her on it (and she's getting her bitch on every now and again), I'm actually gaining an interest in the character. Now, if only they could do the same for Shawn-Duh...

I mostly lurk around here, but like a couple of others lurkers, I feel like doing this. It seems like a great way to jump into posting.

A little rundown of what I watch/how I watch first. I watch GH regularly (although I don't really know why) & ATWT when Luke/Noah are on. I watch OLTL a couple of times a week if I'm bored or something. I DVR GL and watch it if I get around to it (or if I don't have time, I just watch the Bill stuff). I'll watch AMC & DAYS every once in awhile.

Best soap? None: I can't really pick because GH is really the only soap I regularly watch and it isn't very good. I think GL and OLTL are probably the best right now, but I need to start watching them more often.
Worst soap? ATWT: I really can't stand anything on that show except for Luke/Noah. They are the best thing on soaps right now, though.
Most improved soap? I can't really say since I only watch GH regularly and it is most certainly not improved. It sounds like, from this thread, that OLTL is the most improved. I need to start watching that more regularly.

Best character (female)? Maxie, GH: I've always liked Maxie, but she became my fave character pretty shortly after KS took over the role. Her work this year with the Coop stuff and most definitely with Georgie's death have really solidified her as the best female on soaps for me.
Worst character (male)? Jason, GH: Boring character, bored actor. Not a good combo.
Worst character (female)? Lulu, GH: How she went from a character with so much great potential to one I absolutely can not stand to even look at, let alone listen to, I don't really know, but that's what happened. Honorable mention to Liz, GH. I really, really hate her.
Best new character? (tie) Noah, ATWT & Johnny, GH: I love Noah so, so much. JS has grown as an actor and it is so delightful to watch him grow. The chemistry between him and VH, plus the story of Luke & Noah is the best thing on daytime tv right now. Johnny is sexy as all hell and has an amazing potential. I'm sure GH will squander it like they did with Lulu (which reminds me, get Johnny away from Lulu NOW), but for now I'm enjoying the hotness.
Worst new character? Pretty much every new character on GH: Seriously, can't the just use some of the characters they have instead of adding a bunch of talentless actors/pointless characters to the show?
Best couple? Luke/Noah, ATWT: Best reason to watch daytime tv.
Worst couple? Lulu/Logan, Lulu/Johnny, Lulu/whatever: Lulu is like anti-chemistry. She just does not work for me in a romantic relationship. At all.
Best new couple? Bill/Lizzie, GL: Are they even a couple? I don't really know, but I started watching GL again when I caught a small glimpse of those two together when I was channel surfing. Great potential. I'm excited to see where they take it.
Worst new couple? Jason/Liz, GH: I guess they aren't technically new, but I hate them ever so and I had to include them in some worst category.
Best story? Luke/Noah, ATWT: I think I've already said enough about them.
Worst story? TMK, GH: Oh goodness. Can this story get any more annoying, less logical, or fucking dumber? It probaly can. I'm so scared.
Best recast? Brad, ATWT: I never thought I'd actually enjoy watching Austin Peck, but I really, really am. I'm having a blast watching him as Brad.
Worst recast? Marty, OLTL: I really don't think I need to explain that one.
Hottest actor (male)? Daniel Cosgrove, GL: Holy hell is he sexy. Honorable mentions go to Tuc Watkins, OLTL and Brandon Barash, GH who are both also very hot.
Hottest actor (female)? None really stand out in my mind right now.
Best acting performance (male)? (tie) Van Hansis, ATWT & Daniel Cosgrove, GL: I'd really like to see them both recognized come Emmy time. I do not hold out much hope for that, though.
Best acting performance (female)? Kirsten Storms, GH: She has been absolutely amazing during Georgie's death. I hope to see her recognized at the Emmy's, too. I'm going to give an honorable mention to Robin Strasser, OLTL. In the little that I've seen of OLTL lately, she has been impressing me.
Biggest character destruction? Not any one character stands out, but pretty much every character on GH has been destroyed in some small or big way.
Biggest character rejuvenation? Bill, OLTL: Bad Bill is awesome. And hot.
