This show premiered on BBCAmerica last night and it wasn't too bad! From what I gather, it's a spin-off from the popular British series and Kym Marsh comes from the main series. I'm sure there are more spin-off connections, but I've never seen the original so I don't know.

What do you UK peeps think of the series? I hope this leads to one of the biggest UK soaps coming to BBCAmerica.

I liked Ben, Lisa and Kay the prostitute. So un-American to basically have the show centered around prostitutes, lol. It's not as good as Footballers Wives or Mile High, but the cast is good, the writing is decent and it's different from what we usually get. I think I'm going to give it a few weeks.

Anyone else watching it?

The popular British series this spins-off from is called "Hollyoaks", in addition, Gary Lucy (Kyle from "Footballers Wives") has/had (?) a role on Hollyoaks. I saw his picture on the Hollyoaks web site when I was doing some research on this show last night.

I don't know if BBC America shows nudity, but from what I understand, the main reasons to watch this are:

- Philip Olivier's pecs
- Philip Olivier's abs
- Philip Olivier's ass

The show only ran one season.

There's an article here that talks about the show from a GLBT perspective. Some spoilers are included.

It was no Footballers' Wives, but this looks like it could make up for Mile High finishing its run. I read a few spoilers and it sounds like this one gets pretty interesting.

Apparently this is a sequel to another spin-off, "Letting Loose" I wonder why BBCAmerica didn't start there (maybe because In the City is a superior show?)

Between this premiere, the first few episodes of Mile High and the first No Angels (the only ep I made it though) there's a lot of drugging other people in UK soaps, isn't there? That aspect tends to make these shows a little more guilty than pleasure, sometime.

One thing I was trying to figure out -- how did Enrique know to drug Ben's drink? The first time I thought I noticed a signal, but when I rewatched it more carefully, I didn't spot it.

I actually like Ben and Lisa...but after years of watching Top Model, I just can't picture any agency seriously considering Lisa. Her face is too round. Not like she's not pretty, but I can't buy her as model material like I can with the lesbo couple.

Phillip Oliver is hot. Damn. He's totally worth watching this show for.

Finally...as first I hated the bratty little sister who wants to be a model, but she redeemed herself at the end. I got where she was coming from, and the talk with her sister's lover was pretty awesome, actually.

Crazy Bisexual Hooker owns this show, btw. She's great- I love how she's utterly a bitch, yet you get glimpses of her humanity as well. My favorite part of that last ep? Her telling Lisa that she's too good of a person to be a model. As well as the walk with the bratty sister.

I thought the same thing, then I found out she actually is a glamour model in real life! It seems in the UK you can make quite the career out of posting for those FHM type magazines. I guess this is more what Lisa is going for with those massive boobs and all. But she is a sweet girl, such a shame her boyfriend has already cheated on her.

After two episodes I'm loving Kay and the show in general is really impressive. I wish they'd launch more UK soaps on BBCAmerica, maybe Hollyoaks if this is successful. I don't understand why Canada gets them, but we don't here in America.

I found myself thinking the same things about Lisa not looking like a model. That's not to call her plain or ugly but watching her photoshoot, she didn't have the kind of face typically seen in the type of photography she was posing for... does that make sense? I mean, it seemed like the show was telling us that Lisa is being viewed as a potential high fashion model and she doesn't have the look found in high fashion.

Overall, I'm really liking this show and its pacing... does that reflect at all on parent show Hollyoaks?

Some other things I liked from the first two episodes:

1- It's certainly nice to see young, hip people who hope to live a glamorous nightlife they can't afford having a home life that reflects their means. Sure, Mile High did that as well, so maybe I'm just continuing to be jealous of Monica and Rachel's to die for apartment.

2- Loved that the tranny neighbor came through on his threat to lace his milk with dog piss if Tank Top continued to steal it.

3- This was the first time I saw a soap do a storyline where a woman drops a date rape drug into a guy's drink and the show doesn't take a "He's only upset that he doesn't remember all the fun he had" attitude.

4- I like Precious, but I get the feeling that I shouldn't like her any more than I like Burton.

5- That said, Burton is one of the most compelling soap opera bad guys since... well, the last bad guy that compelling I can recall came when Joe Breen was Michelle Forbes' partner in crime.

Wow. It didn't even dawn on me that Kay and her roommate were lovers. I like all the other characters, except for Tank Top. I think he's an asshole, with no redeeming qualities at all.

I'm so glad for on-demand...I haven't been able to catch the show lately, but I wanna have a sitdown and watch soon.

From the look of things, this series is going OnDemand only starting this week. I have no idea why BBCA is doing this since there's so much Benny Hill and Who's Line is it Anyway on the schedule, but that's where we're gonna have to find it.

I have to say I really like how they're slowly building up to Phillip Oliver's character being gay, or at least really, really confused. That little moment in Ep 4 where he's just checking out that portrait of that asshole model dude was a nice little hint.

I like this show. It's utter cheese, but I'm really enjoying it...I'm just pissed they killed off Kay, who was probably one of the most compelling on this show, by episode 2 or 3.
