Does anyone else remember this 'drama'?
Apparently, it was the 'jumping off' point for some of today's stars. Jamie Luner of Melrose and yummy George Eads.

I actually liked this show, but it was only on for like six months or something.
Nikkei
I watched it religiously at the time and can hardly remember it now. Apart from the boat, that is. I love me a soap on a boat.
Jefffro
Loved it at the time.

Jamie Luner was never better.

Then she got saddled with that crapfest on NBC Saturdays. Profiler or some dog shit.

What happened to her after that? I miss her sexy snarky ways.
Nflux Forever
I remember this show. Back when this show debuted, the WB consisted entirely of crappy sitcoms but Savannah was one of the network's first dramas. This and 7th Heaven. Ew.
JYR
Loved this show, but I can't remember a single episode. What I do know is that I recently looked through my high school memory book and apparently I had listed Savannah as one of my favorite shows.

I remember watching this show every single week. I remember that there were three girls - the stunning sexpot Jamie Luner, the redhaired girl who is now on Navy NCIS and some blonde girl. The blonde girl was going to marry George Eads but then he died. Can't remember how. I think the show actually lasted two seasons, because in the season finale, George Eads returned. I seem to recall learning that it was actually the dead guy's twin brother. Funny, I don't remember watching much during the second season, so I have no clue what happened.

And obviously George Eads and Jamie Luner have become bigger stars, and even the redhaired girl is now on a high profile show. But whatever happened to the blonde one?
Buttacup
Good lord, why do I remember this... Jamie Luner, Robin Lively (curly redhead), and Shannon Sturges. At least I don't remember the character names... sorta. Let's see: Peyton, Lane, and thankgodIreallydon'tknow.

But Shannon Sturges (blonde) was on some soaps... I think she was on Days of Our Lives back in the 80s, but I do know she was on Port Charles in one of it's final arcs. David Gail, who played Lane's boyfriend (was he named Dean?), was also on Port Charles for awhile, playing Dr. Joe Scanlon.

A couple of other castmembers names... George Eads has been mentioned already, there was the older dude played by Ed Wise, some girl with the last name like Toissant (first name Beth?)... and Paul Satterfield! I remember him from other primetime soaps, playing like a skeevy con artist dude.

The first season finale was when George Eads came back from the dead... as Travis' good-twin brother Nick Corelli. And then in the second (and series) finale, I think he was going to get married to Peyton, but that was just him and Blondie getting even.

And I'm spent!

This show was even better than Melrose Place - I loved it and looked forward to Monday nights cause it was on after the Place.

IIRC, the George Eads character was engaged to the blond girl - I think her name was Reese and she was played by a former soap actress - while having a steamy affair with her friend Peyton (played by Jamie Luner). I also seem to recall that Peyton was jealous of Reese because Reese had a rich daddy (played by someone on a lot of soap-type shows, but whose name escapes me) and Peyton's mother worked as their housekeeper so she kept getting Reese's cast-off clothes, toys, etc. I think it may have turned out (or they were leading up to discovering) that Reese's dad was also Peyton's dad. I believe the George Eads character got murdered and I think there was a trial cause Peyton had a video of them having sex and was threatening to blackmail him or something. Don't remember much about the redheaded girl's SL, except that her name was Laine.

I remember it was really really over-the-top and I was so pissed when they cancelled it because I think they said it was too expensive to produce, but then they replaced it with Buffy (which I love, but how cheap was all the vamp transformation, etc.). And I agree that it was Jamie Luner's best work - she was such a disappointment on MP. If they'd written the part right or just brought her Savannah character to MP, she could have given Amanda and Kimberly a run for their money!
Darn
The one thing I distinctly remember about this show is Jamie Luner dragging her biological father up a flight of stairs (we, the viewers, could see them through an open window in the house, it was oddly shot). He was drunk and she made him think they had slept together. I think he knew that she was his daughter, or she knew or they both did. He was the blonde girl's father.
ciarra
I loved this show. I especially liked Jamie Luner's character sticking it to Shannon Sturges' character. "Bunny", the bracelet, Peyton the bridesmaid sleeping with Shannon's character's groom before the wedding. Good soapy stuff.

The episode where Peyton accidentally returned a home-made sex tape to the video store in an "It's A Wonderful Life" video box, then had to get it away from a woman and her kids who just rented it, was a classic.

eta, Spelling was so cheap producing this show that he used the exterior shot from Charlie's Angels in one scene. He was into recycling.
Nflux Forever
Not that it matters much but Shannon Sturges character was Reese.
nattielite
I loved this show, too. Peyton was great and I rooted for her to win every time.
PostToastie
Man, you guys remember more than I do.

I remember the first episode where the curly headed girl, Laine came back for Reese's wedding and then George Eads' character got killed, but didn't he show back up as his twin who was also the cop investigating the death?

Here's an episode guide for both seasons of Savannah.

Because the show was supposedly set in my hometown, I recall tuning in to watch the premiere episode. In the very first scene, they focused on a "Georgia" car tag, with some clever director probably thinking it was a great way to let the viewers know where the show was set (just in case you missed the show's title?). The problem was that the tag had "Clayton" (county) at the bottom, a county in the Atlanta metro area. They panned away from the limo the tag was attached to, and there was a plantation-style mansion...with mountains in the background. Savannah is a coastal town, so mountains look quite out-of-place in Savannah (but perfectly in place in Clayton County, of course). Not a Live Oak tree in sight, nor a drip-drop of Spanish moss, and some of the most questionable accents I'd ever heard.

Of course, we all knew that Savannah was actually being shot in suburban Atlanta, but as usual Aaron Spelling didn't think "minor details" like geography would make a difference. Oddly enough, the only time they ever bothered to visit the real Savannah for exterior shots was in the summer of 1996, when Atlanta was clogged with Olympics visitors. By then, I'd written the show off, though. Too bad, because the Stanleys (James and Diane) had done fabulous work at Knots Landing and I wanted the show to be a hit. But then, I also wanted the producers to be hit for not trying to pay attention to details.
Genius
It was Ray Wise, not Ed Wise, who was on the show. He's notorious for playing Laura Palmer's incestuous father, but played papa to both Reese & Peyton here. Oh, and remember Ted Shackelford and Mimi Kennedy joined late in the series, too! Hilarity. LOVED IT!
Lisa Ann
Loved the Southern names...Peyton, Reese and Lane!!
twotrey
Don't forget during the second season a fourth was added into the mix for some racial diversity: Cassie Wheeler (played by GH alum Alexia Robinson), undercover treasury agent/nightclub singer who lousily lipsynched terrible cover versions of mid-'90s hits as LaBouche's "Be My Lover." It would always amuse me how all the characters would say how awesome a singer Cassie was, and I'm like, is everyone deaf?

And Spelling indeed missed a golden opportunity by not importing Jamie Luner in character as Peyton to MP. Considering Savannah ended with a fair amount of resolution with Peyton getting her comeuppance at the hands of Reese and Nick, it would've made sense for her to move out of town and start afresh at 4616...

Savannah was absolute must-see TV for me, from the very first episode. In fact, I was in active labor with my third child and wouldn't leave for the hospital, but it finally got so bad my husband insisted. Still wouldn't go 'til he got the VCR going, though. I had no illusions about what it was in terms of "quality" TV, but golly did I love it!
Oracle42
I loved this show. It was definite must-see tv for me too. Awesomely bad in the best possible way.

Guys, I felt I just had to bump this thread with all the Peyton-instead-of-Lexi talk over at the MP thread.

I watched late-night reruns of the show about a year ago, during my Law School exams (honestly, during each semester I barely watch TV at all and then, during the month of my exams, I'm watching every single even remotely trashy show I can find on the TV schedule. It's crazy.) and I loved it.

It was so trashy, and (I think) more intentionally funny than Melrose ever was (which may be the reason some people prefer Savannah). Peyton was so trampy and snarky you couldn't not love her, the blonde actress was annoyingly cute at first but then redeemed herself, and the redhead remained annoying throughout the run of the show (remember her addiction to, I believe, painkillers? Or was it alcohol? And how she bought, like, a dozen of cough syrup bottles to quench her thirst because she couldn't get her hands on booze? And how the blonde one and Cassie caught her on the act in the bathroom? Hilarious.).

George Eads was extremely cute even though he was supposed to be a bit nasty in the second season (remember that whole bit when his girlfriend had married his father and then she came back pretending she loved him? And then his father died and some other stuff happened which I can't recall? Good times.), and, even though I initially hated him, the actor playing Tom Massick was simply hilarious. He really made the second half of the second season. Oh, I also loved Dharma's mother as the rich bitch. She was hilarious as well.

Seriously, this show was too good.

Lane (the redhead) was indeed addicted to painkillers.

Season two was a bit more meandering than the truly fantastic first season (fast paced, suspenseful, surprising, deliciously trashy with tongue often in cheek), but it was still good, even with the addition of the dead weight that was Cassie (one would think they would find a better singing voice for Alexia Robinson to lipsync to)--after all, we had the wonderfully unholy union of Edward and Eleanor.

The one scene I remember from this show is Peyton (that was Jamie Luner's character, correct) dragging her drunk or drugged father (unbeknownst to her) up to his bedroom as someone (possibl her mother) watched the icky almost incest from outside the house.

From a long, long time ago:

The accents were atrocious. I'm also from the area, and as Daniel82 said, Savannah is flat, flat, flat, and coastal. It's in Chatham County; Clayton County is over 200 miles away. It's weird that they went to the effort to film in Georgia and they decided on metro Atlanta, which looks nothing like Savannah, and is about a 4+ hour car ride.

But the accents? Oy. I mainly remember a woman calling someone "sugah". WTF?? People in Georgia talk like that - if you're over 70, maybe. Ugh.
vipcruizer
I absolutely loved this show! It's a little known fact that I named my daughter Peyton Laine after this show. I wish it was in rerun somewhere!

That's hilarious! 70 and in a driveway lined with big trees going to the main house.

Hey Savannah just got a big shout out. In the new Entertainment Weekly (Kanye West on the cover) there is a story about the new CW network (UPN and WB merger) the writer of the article is giving the new network some pointers about the programing schedule and on sunday they suggest running Savannah and Shasta McNasty reruns which doesn't seem like a bad idea.

Come to think of it, why hasn't the show only two seasons been released on DVD yet?
Princess Lucky

vipcruizer, that's awesome!

Oh, and Savannah reruns? Guaranteed viewership. (Shasta McNasty too. Wasn't Jake Busey kind of cute in that? Oh wait. Did I say that out loud?)

Seriously, Savannah is an ideal show to re-air because you can't get enough of it. It just gets funnier every time, and rewatching is an experience of its own. Not to mention, it's so outrageous and hilarious I really want new viewers to "find" it and get to know what they were missing all these years.

(is it wrong that I consider the show mostly a comedy? But then, I consider Days a comedy too. But not Melrose Place. Nuh-uh.)

I would totally like to see some Savannah reruns pop up somewhere. I think I was like twelve when this show was on and I just loved it! I would enjoy seeing it in a different light now. I'm sure I would just crack up.

I think the CW network should put it in their lineup somewhere, I would totally DVR that shit. Also they should pick up Arrested Development like that EW article suggested. But that's a different thread.

Savannah is also an ideal show to re-run since it ended with a fair amount of resolution. Where's SoapNet when you need it?

I'm on the case! Last week, I shamelessly wrote to SoapNet begging for them to re-air The Colbys of all things. Savannah deserves to get some action, too.

I remember loving this show, but if you ask me about the storylines, things get a little sketchy. Though I do have one of my favorite exchanges memorized: One of the other characters called Peyton "wicked" (or said something she'd said or done was wicked.)

Her response?

Wicked, but good.

It's a shame MP didn't know what to do with the Lexi character; Jamie Luner knew how to bring it! I expected great things from her. But Lexi turned into a boozy, pathetic, bedhopper. (Not unlike a lot of MP characters.)

He was drunk and she made him think they had slept together. I think he knew that she was his daughter, or she knew or they both did. He was the blonde girl's father.
Okay, so the deal was that (and I can't believe that I remember this so clearly) Peyton knew that Reese's dad was also her biological father. He knew that he was Peyton's biological father, but didn't know that she knew. She was helping (I think) Tom blackmail him, and she did it by getting him drunk and made him think that he'd slept with her. I think she even photoshopped a picture of someone else and him to make it look like it was her (Peyton) in bed with him.

I was, like, 11. I actually remember 6th grade and watching Savannah then. I think I learned a lot about the birds and the bees from this show. ;) I'd love to watch it now for the snark factor. I'd totally rent both seasons if not buy them if/when they come out on DVD.
Unraveled
Seeing how it was ten years ago, I'd love to see what I think about it now. I was like 15 when this came on, and loved it because the stories were so outrageous!

I would so totally record the reruns and/or watch the DVDs.

The only thing I honestly remember is that Peyton & Reese were half-sisters and Reese turned evil after her husband "died."

If CW re-ran this, I'd actually have to tune into this channel (besides watching the last season of Gilmore Girls).

Well, to be fair, she didn't exactly turn "evil"...I remember it as she grew a backbone, started sticking up for herself, and didn't let people walk all over her...but if they did, and she found out, she'd try to make them pay for it

Of course, I was 14/15 when the show was on, so time may have played w/my memory a bit!

I just remember loving when Peyton told her mother to 'Get off the cross, the church needs it back' when talking about the messed up relationship between her mom the maid and Reese/Peyton's dad the Rich man.

What a good show......
Savannuh
One of the most memorable parts for me is when Reese made her husband eat the dogfood disguised as a gourmet meal...lol... THAT was funny.

Word. Peyton was so evil, she was practically cartoonish - husband stealing, blackmailing, lying, etc. So when Reese finally decided to fight back, it was great. She'd been so timid and naive and trusting so to see her get a clue and give Peyton a dose of her own medicine was fantastic. Of course, she had to ruin it in the end by trying to lecture Peyton about the evil of her ways and how the only reason she (Reese) did what she did was to stick up for herself, and oh Peyton, why have you hated me all these years, why can't we be friends? Gag. I would have preferred the series to end with Peyton lying in a gutter and Reese's foot on her neck.
jetty
I wish they'd put this series on DVD, but I don't guess that's too likely.

That was a good one! One of my favorites was when Peyton was trying to get back the videotape which showed her with Reese's husband in bed, and the videotape had mistakenly been returned to a video rental store in a "It's a Wonderful Life" case. A woman had just rented it for her kids, and the only way Peyton could get her to give up the videotape was by telling the woman that particular videotape would be more like "It's a Kinky Life".

AAAAH This show was "take your bath and get your ice cream hop on the couch" guilty pleasure television!

I also remember the bad acting by that little boy whose father was dating Laine's character. "Laine is bad!!!! I WANT MY MOMMY!!!"

And then when his estranged wife comes back, Laine is standing there at the front door arguing with her "But you left"....like a child that had a toy taken from them! LMAO
Coffee Retina
OMG, I never realized a thread for this show existed! I was obsessed with this show when I was 14. Gotta love those mystery soaps. The damn thing was so cheesy that I was embarrassed to tell my friends I watched it. I remember loving Peyton and Veronica (wasn't she a ho?) and hating everyone else. But Edward Burton was so fun to hate! I love Ray Wise.

But the accents? Oy. I mainly remember a woman calling someone "sugah". WTF??

LMAO!!!! Yeah, Peyton was always calling everyone "sugah" (inlcuding her dad in that fake incest scene...eek). I remember thinking back then that this was how Southern people really talked. Ugh, Spelling.

I also remember the bad acting by that little boy whose father was dating Laine's character. "Laine is bad!!!! I WANT MY MOMMY!!!"

This was one of the worst child actors I've ever seen on television, right up there with the tweedle dum twins on 7H. It took him forever to say a freakin sentence and when Lane was kidnapped he said "Laaaane" in the most monotone voice ever.

At the time this aired, I had no idea that almost all the story lines were total cliches. Like Lane's wacky "addiction." I think it started with pain killers and then morphed into alcohol. Then she tried to fool her friends by ordering a huge case of cough syrup. wtf
