" What would you do to stay in Eden forever?"
BWAH! Ha ha! You have
no idea. Heh. Did you click on the banner to watch the promo? "What would you do to stay in Eden forever. . .and ever and ever? Be careful what you wish for. Forever Eden." Hee. If I were
Eden I would have that made into a poster and hang it on my bedroom door. But, I'm immature like that.
But hey, what's with the drive-by post? Get back here and give us a rundown on what you thought of the Kinks goodness this past week! Hee. And do you still have the ceremonial whip, because everyone here has said that I get to drive the KinkSled this upcoming week. ;-)
*ceremoniously handing
Black Knight the KinkSled whip* And, hee.
[pointless venting] I have been stuck in this room for two weeks trying to get two screenplays finished in time to enter them into Project Greenlight. I've done nothing else, and you know what two weeks trapped in one room with nothing but my own thoughts caused me to realize?
I'm a HACK, my writing stinks, I should go back to school and become a lawyer or a teacher or something because I make Jenny on The L Word look like fucking Toni Morrison. . .*dramatic inhalation* I needed to get that out. *sigh* Fuck winning the contest, I'm just glad it's over.[/pointless venting]
I have
so much to catch up on. I suppose I just have to give a very generalized rundown of my thoughts, since most of what could be said has been said.
First of all, I'm going to give props to Alicia, Eden and Susan, because it cannot be said enough how well they did during those scenes in the briefing room.
I have to agree with everyone and say that Susan's been amazing lately. I'm not sure where she's drawing from to bring such a nuanced and subtle performance day after day, but as someone said, Susan is the one person, other than Agnes Nixon, who truly understands Erica's motivations. I suppose that, though for Erica, Bianca's pregnancy
is all. about. her., which is typical, this time Erica's total self-involvement comes from a place of genuine hurt and confusion. Erica cannot for the life of her understand why Bianca would want to give birth to her rapist's child. Erica regards being pregnant with Kendall as the worst experience of her life, something to be forgotten and buried, and is constantly looking for any excuse to validate that view--hence, Erica's invariably withdrawing her love and support from Kendall at a moment's notice, with the slightest provocation and declaring that Kendall is just like her father, blah, blah, blah. . .mindfuckcakes. Now, however, by keeping her baby, Bianca, the person Erica loves most in the world (besides herself, of course) is challenging Erica's view of herself as it has never been challenged before. Couple that with the fact that Bianca and Kendall's relationship has become solidifiied, so to speak, and that it's obvious that their relationship is now beyond Erica's control (
and how) and you've got the ingredients for a major meltdown for Erica. Not only will she no longer be able to shut Kendall out of the family on a whim, but she has to accept Bianca's baby or lose Bianca for good. It is a complex and precarious situation the likes of which Erica has never had to deal with, because this time no one's going to be up for any of her typical shit. All that to say that, most likely, Susan realizes the enormity of the situation for Erica and is therefore tempering her performances to reflect what must be a deeply introspective (as much as Erica is capable of introspection) time for the character. Mental thumbs up to La Looch.
Alicia, too, has been bringing the pain like never before. She blew me away all of this past week. I have to say that she was at her best during the "big reveal" and also in the moments before Bianca's confession in the courtroom. In both instances, Alicia conveyed some much more with only her eyes than pages and pages of dialogue ever could have--the pain, hurt and fear, mingled with relief that finally the truth was out. Wow, man. Just. Wow. My captain kicks all kinds of ass.
What can I say about Eden? She brought it like nobody's business. I knew what was coming, had heard Bianca say almost the exact same things before, and yet I was involved and interested every second because Eden was just. fucking. brilliant. I have to agree with those who did not particularly enjoy the courtroom speech and I have a feeling that the writer didn't quite know what to do with it, because the dialogue seemed stilted and unnatural, but Eden made it work, plus I'm an old softie--schoomped-out Lena just about made me misty.
