The eighth week of performances.

THANK GOD!

Mya finally getting the scores she deserves, even though that Quickstep was deserving of a 30 too.

I hope Joanna finally leaves, although it will probably be Aaron.

I liked Latin era night!

Random comments:

Kelly was overscored on the Jive. I didn't like it at all.

Was something wrong with Aaron's music in his Samba. It sounded muted.

Dimitry should have been alive in the 70's. He looked awesome.

I'm glad that the judges are backing Mya and cooling on Joanna. I think they've been negative on Mya this whole time just to avoid ringer comments.

I thought Derek's futuristic paso was outstanding!!

Mya had a breakthrough week. She connected with Dmitry and the music.

I'm worried about Donny. No way did he deserve to be below Kelly on the leaderboard.

Karina? Edyta called. She wants her leg warmers back.

And cameramen? When dancers are doing intricate footwork during the quickstep or jive, the last thing we need is shots of them from the waist up.

I can't imagine how Aaron could possibly survive this. It sounded like everybody knew it too. The comments from the judges sounded like they wanted him to leave on a positive note.

I spent most of this season thinking that Dmitry's choreography skills were overrated, and souring on Mya as a performer. But that samba was awesome. One of the few I've liked in the history of the show.

Dmitry: "I have no idea what Len wants." Really, Dmitry? Really? It's one thing if he's decided, "I know what he wants, but I don't give a shit, I'm doing what I want!" But his frustration during the confessional seemed genuine, in which case... the guy's an idiot. However, with that said, their quickstep and samba were great, and refreshingly gimmick-free. See, Dmitry, that's what Len wants from you. Not that hard to figure out.

ETA: Joanna and Derek's rehearsal footage was weird. It seemed designed to stir up more ringer controversy surrounding Mya, except without using the word "ringer." I bet Joanna was just itching to call Mya a professional dancer whenever she called her a natural. I'm sure that the idea of watching Mya's rehearsal tapes was producer-driven; I have the conspiracy theory all worked out in my head, haha.

While mostly I was delighted with Mya's dances, the fact that she's a dance professional kinda soured her 30 for me. It was kind of odd that she and Dmitry said they'd do their own thing, but then paid attention to the No Gimmick rule. I do wonder why if CA liked their first dance and didn't give any criticism, what kept her from giving it a ten, but some things are incomprehensible.

After Joanna's QS I thought she and Derek should be the ones to go home, but I really liked the futuristic paso, which I though would be a complete train wreck. I actually enjoyed all of the decade dances except Donny's, which didn't quite work for me. I have no idea who's going home.

I felt like I was watching Dr. Phil and American Idol and certain points of the show tonight. Aaron's segment was a bit uncomfortable, but the judges so want him to go home tomorrow that I guess it doesn't matter. And hey, his father figure Len likened him to his son.

And what is with even more gimmicks this season by assigning themes to the dances? Really, DWTS? How American Idol of you. I expect next week they'll be dancing to songs released the year they were born.

I was briefly excited that the judges didn't fawn over Joanna's quickstep, but I just knew that it was manufactured for her comeback with the Paso....that seemed kind of light on Paso content, from what I remember. Of course, they're going to get the encore tomorrow night, even though Mya got the first 30 of the season.

Kelly...is just not getting it, though I really love Louis this season. I think he's the most involved teacher. He definitely has a career as a therapist when he retires.

That was such BS, and I was actually offended on Mya's behalf, when I've been indifferent to her. I think the show definitely crossed a line making a point of non-ringer Joanna studying Mya's performances. If the judges can't stand the ringers, don't cast them. It really left a sour taste in my mouth.

Ah. Once more "the best band in the land" doesn't fail to make us laugh... (at them) at least twice.

And Samantha? Chose the option to look good but be incomprehensible tonight. Sometimes she goes the other way (although she's never COMPLETELY comprehensible).

I guess Aaron being in the bottom two last week, in spite of the judges raving over him and protecting him as best they could, sealed his fate.

Derek's choreography for the paso was very interesting, although I tend to forget Joanna is there.

Why, oh, why didn’t they put everyone in decade-order? It seemed as though everyone was in dance-ability order, outside of Donny.

Think they know that Aaron is going home tomorrow? Carrie Ann’s speech to him seemed a wrap up of his time on the show

Can I say that I wasn’t really enamored with Mya’s 70s samba? I thought that it was a bit of a mess. I did like her ballroom dance though (what did they do the quickstep) and wish that it would have gotten the 30. And have there been partner costumes that clashed worse than those samba costumes? Ow, my eyes.

Futuristic paso from the mind of Derek Hough? Scary thought. I know where I would have started- Matrix paso. I give Derek props for not going there, it’s been done. And Joanna surprised me with how well she pulled it off, and it was very convenient that she was suppose to be a robot or whatever (I will not make a Joanna-fembot joke; I will not make a Joanna-fembot joke) because she doesn’t really have the aggression of the paso but it didn't really matter here.

LOL, that exact thought crossed my head as well. The dance itself wasn't terrible, but I don't think it was as great as the judges said, and I could've done without the glow-in-the-dark costumes and Derek's freaky makeup. Talk about Nightmare Fuel...

Wonder if Joanna will write yet another passive-aggressive blog or tweet about Mya being a professional, especially after that first perfect 30. Looking forward to it. :P

Aaron not dancing to a 90s boy band song = wasted opportunity.

Finally, the worst dance of the night IMO was Kelly's jive. Hated it. She was out of sync with Louis. Then there was that stupid doll prop. And the final moment where she pandered to the judges. Way overscored, IMO.

A decent night with no real howlers. I'm very glad that Joanna/Derek were called on their rough quickstep, but I was surprised to like their futuristic paso. Mya and Dmitri's samba was a lot of fun, and I thought actually deserved its 30. I hated the doll but liked the rest of Kelly's '60s dance. Donny's '80s dance was a bit off, but I appreciated his taking on the camp (and I loved his and Kym's first dance). Aaron and Karina's first dance was meh, but I liked their samba.

That said, I wouldn't mind at all if Aaron and Karina go home tomorrow, ending on a high note. No dance-off, right?

Susan Boyle's going to sing live on DWTS tomorrow night? Or is it some taped, pre-done number? It couldn't be any worse than Demi Lovato or Taylor Swift, could it?

ETA: "Valerie" is not a quick-step song, even if you speed it up!

Loved Tom B's eyeroll and remark after Aaron told Samantha he felt like he was gonna throw up at the end of his dance. (TMI) "Well, that was our oversharing moment for the evening".

Also hated the doll prop for Kelly, but fortunately they threw it away pretty quickly.

Derek's choreography for the paso was very interesting, although I tend to forget Joanna is there.

Word. I think the reason why both Bruno and Len called Derek's choreo 'genius' is that he makes you forget Joanna has no strength in her legs and bad footwork.
