When Sid Maxwell (Guest Star Rene Ifrah), owner of a fashion company is found dead, Detectives Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) and Kevin Bernard (Anthony Anderson) assume asphyxia. But when fashion photographer, Terry Clark (Guest Star Jeremy Beiler), leads the detectives to an alarming discovery of Maxwell's true identity, they uncover a suspicious website with threatening web posts. Also starring: S. Epatha Merkerson (Lieutenant Anita Van Buren), Sam Waterston (District Attorney Jack McCoy), Alana De La Garza (Connie Rubirosa), and Linus Roache (Michael Cutter).

Is there any reason that these NBC episode descriptions never mention the guest stars that people might've heard of? I had no idea that Corddry was going to be in this episode, and I love that guy.

Secondly, would a jury really even consider the idea that three missed child support payments from a decade ago is an indication that a police officer would have no qualms about committing perjury?

Dear God, I hope not! When I heard that I yelled at the tv. That was ridiculous. Especially since they were the first 3 payments, not any recent ones. But maybe they want to set up a future storyline and this was the only clumsy way they could do it.

Some people might, at least that is what the defense attorneys were hoping for.

This was another great episode that struck a nerve, and shows where the internet can lead to if people are none too careful.

"What about Lupo? He's juicy."

Indeed, Det. Bernard. Indeed.

LOVED this one. Especially loved Lupo. And I liked that Bernard didn't back down from the slimy Leary.

And next week looks good.

I'm still sad about Van Buren's illness.

Big dramatic character reveals are boring on a show that's been running for 20 years, even when the character is relatively new. It was fun back 10 years ago when it was so sporadic and we weren't used to it. Next week I expect to hear a dramatic music cue, followed by Cutter's admission that he was born on a dying planet and sent by his father in a baby sizes space pod to Earth, only to discover as a teen that he had some pretty awesome powers.

That aside, I found this to be one of the most realistic things to happen on any of the Law and Orders in a while. There's this LJ user who always posts in the pet/animal hobby communities I watch, and over the years it's been increasingly alleged that she is an unfit pet owner. Someone on LJ actually got hold of her real name and the name and number of her vet and spread it around to a bunch of disgruntled LJ people. After a flood of calls, the vet dumped this girl as a patient (which made no sense because people spent a lot of time getting this girl to find a good vet). Internet drama crossing over into real life harassment is baaaaaaad.

I think it is a pretty big stretch that a judge would let that in as evidence that the witness wasn't credible. It seems too far removed to equate missed child support payments from a decade ago with perjury, without a lot more. I mean it's like pulling out someone's late credit card payment as evidence because after all, the person "lied" to the credit card company by agreeing to pay on time, and not actually doing that.

Unless this is a plot point being set up, it seems like they could have found some way to make Bernard's past revelation a bit more related to the topic at hand, like perhaps Bernard having had the Internet-related embarrassment in his past which makes him ultra-sensitive about Internet free speech or something.

That said, it was an interesting episode.

Here's my reaction to tonight's ep:

"Holy crap!! Van Buren is married to Ernie Hudson??!!!!

Have they EVER shown her hubby before??? I was so tickled by that, I didn't get into the rest of the show as much as I would have liked.

Her husband made a couple of appearances back in the mid-90s (the episode where she shot the kid at the ATM and the episode where Claire got killed if I recall correctly). However, she mentioned earlier this season that she's since been divorced and found a new boyfriend, so Hudson is presumably the new boyfriend.

When I heard that I yelled at the tv.

I yelled too, but not at that. I yelled Bullshit! when the judge said the defense called recess to let the defense look over Cutter's new evidence, which it had the right to, and yet, only a day earlier, let the defense introduce crap about Bernard without even doing a sidebar first to see if it was actually relevant and not just prejudicing the jury.

Decent episode, Rob Corddry plays slimy real well, and McCoy had a few good lines, but I definitely hated the judge.

But exactly how did they get all those posters information without a warrant again? The one thing I did learn from this episode is that you can find ANYTHING on the internet. *eye roll*

Thanks, alynch! That's what I get for not keeping up with the Mothership as much as I should. I just started getting back and REALLY interested in L&O Original Flavor the last couple of seasons, after SVU turned into the crapfest, IMO, it is now, and CI hasn't been been up to previous seasons.

Heck, I didn't know she was divorced, much less had a boyfriend.

News flash, everyone! Some people revel in the anonymity the Internet grants them. The get on shared-interest forums and use their online pseudonyms to say things - mean-spirited and controversial things - they wouldn't be caught dead speaking otherwise. But we wouldn't know anything about that, now would we?

Actually this episode handled the issue of Internet harassment with the right amount of nuance, since it seems like every week there's a new case - and an increasingly shrill outcry - like this in the news. I think I can even remember the original appearance of a couple of the cases that the episode borrowed. It was an interesting writing choice, though, to focus on an online conflict between adults as it sometimes seems that the publicized cases are born from younger people and the social networking, etc. sites they frequent. Good on L&O for not taking the obvious route.

Always good to see Dr. Olivet, though Caroline McCormick looked a little weary this time. Maybe it's just the passage of 19 years, but I hope she's in good health. Ernie Hudson did decently even with his limited appearance. Corrdry, though, was unexceptional, even when opposite Anthony Anderson who did a very good job, especially on the stand, though I agree that any rational judge would have closed the defense attorney's line of questioning long before it reached where it did.

One more minor thing: I really liked Alana De La Garza's voiceover introducing the 'Next Week' promo at the episode's end. It just works; It's great that they're using the whole cast even for something minor like that.

Connie looked pretty hot in that new coat of hers.

The episode was good, too.

Let me just say that I love Anthony Anderson! I think he is doing a very a good job in this role, and he was excellent in last nights episode.

I thought the episode was very good.

ETA: Yeah, it is HIGHLY unlikely the judge would have let that child support payment information into evidence in this case. I think it is possible that the writers are setting us up for something later.

I thought it was good of Lupo to sort of apologize for letting Bernard be the harrassee. "If we would've known..."

When the lawyer asked why they should believe Bernard, he should've said, "I've matured."

Nice touch about the SSN being posted online, in light of Orbach's situation back in 97 http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,620717,00.html
