» 1-4: "Preggers" 2009.09.23 (recap)

This is probably my least favorite episode so far, which isn't to say that I thought it was bad. I loved all the stuff with Kurt. Probably going to go around saying "and slap - the - butt" for the next week.

The whole deal with Quinn having sex with Puck and getting pregnant just felt a little too...dark for this show. "Dark" isn't the right word, but it just doesn't fit tone-wise for me. It could fit tone-wise, but it was like all of a sudden things were going uber-serious and angsty.

Everything with Rachel was pretty boring for me. Can this show stop having people quit and rejoin and quit and rejoin all the time? Can we get the number of members needed for regionals and then just keep the club stable in terms of membership?

Laughed really hard over Sue's support of caning.

I thought it was sort of inappropriate for Will to ask Finn if he wanted him to set them up with Planned Parenthood; I don't think teachers should be trying to help teenagers have abortions, and I would have liked it a lot better if Will had just asked Finn what it was he wanted him to do. The whole thing with Quinn being pregnant is just...off, for me.

I like that Kurt's dad isn't disowning his son and all that - seen that wayyyyyy too many times. So both Kurt's mom and Finn's dad are dead, huh? Anyone else wondering if these two might end up as stepbrothers if this show lasts long enough? A little too Popular, but possible.

When Finn gave Quinn his baby blanket and told her it was the only thing he had left to remember his dad by, all I could think was, "If she accepts it, she's a heartless bitch!".

Glee had been feeling a little unbalanced to me since both of the sane, balanced central characters are male, but it takes awhile to develop solid characters.

Sandy may just be a pedophile, sells medical marijuana, and is a psycho stalker of Josh Groban. He's not a poster child for stability. Coach Tanaka isn't exactly a stable kind of guy, either. The principal has little quirks and foibles, and apparently likes to hawk stockings. Puck's a schmuck who throws people in dumpsters and port-a-potties. Finn, while adorable, isn't too bright.

I get that Will is sane and balanced, to a point. He's not above using blackmail, and he gets his feelings hurt easily. I don't get who the second sane, balanced dude is. Who fits that definition?

I think by the end of this series, I'm going to think everybody's cuckoo for cocoa puffs.

For once, line of the episode goes to someone other than Sandy or Sue: "i had sex with your mother. no, seriously, i cleaned your pool and then had sex with her in your bed. nice star wars sheets." Way to go Puck.

For shame, Beyonce. The glaring lack of music can only be attributed to the monstrous fee the producers had to pay for her song. Despite it's being pretty much the best single ever released. I'm filled with giddy glee every time I hear it.

I'm embarassed by how much Kendra makes me laugh. I wasn't embarassed by how much I howled during Higgin's instructional video for putting on support hose.

I was very impressed with this episode. They really got the desperation and fear of kids finding out they are going to be parents. I loved the fact that Puck WANTS to be a father to his child and that Finn is trying to want to be one.

I don't know which of the three broke my heart more. Quinn is terrified that she won't get out; Puck is terrified that he'll screw it up; Finn is terrified he'll let down his mom. Puck is a total asshat, but his desire to do more for his child than his father did for him is kind of touching. Let Kurt's dad teach him a few lessons about canning the homophobia and he could turn out all right.

I'm not crazy about how farcically dim they are making Finn - finding out about how a library works and accepting impregnation via jacuzzi

This one rang way too true to life. My high school age students, who love this show and have been through sex ed (twice) still worry about getting pregnant in a hot tub. It's the urban myth that just won't die.

ETA:

I don't think teachers should be trying to help teenagers have abortions,

A lot of times, students don't have anyone else to turn to. I've never helped a student get an abortion (and I'd be hardpressed to find one who has), but I've certainly pointed them in the direction of information and health care. It's a professional counselor's job to help them make that decision, but it's my job to make sure they understand their choices and the consequences. When a student confesses that kind of secret, we only want to help and do what's best for them; not make the choice ourselves, but make sure they're in the right place to make the choice for themselves. I'd also like to mention that Planned Parenthood does a lot more than handle abortions. It provides healthcare, testing, counseling, etc.. Abortions are only one element of its mission. Stepping off my soapbox now....

Why? Abortion is a viable option, and students have the right to be aware of it and have it available to them.

I don't know, Sue's line about the only thing Sandy's house was missing was a row of corpses rotting in shallow graves under the house had me rolling.

One nitpick: where did Higgins get the money to hire an arts administrator if he's charging Will $60 a month for glee club?
Sue may have taken care of that. Or maybe that's where the $8000 went.

If Puckerton is such a loose guy, shouldn't he be in the practice of using protection? GAH.
Protection is not always 100%, especially when used by drunk teenagers.

I am now so officially in love with the show I want to have it's babies. Fan-freaking-tastic.

I actually teared up at the end. And I NEVER, EVER cry at TV.

I laughed, I cried, I snorted, giggled, choked while laughing, and then laughed some more.

What a great episode! Kurt, Single Ladies, football team dancing, Sue's Corner - omg, I loved it all.

The pregnancies are going to be resolved in the season finale, mark my words. And they are going to leave us hanging until the second season, I just know it.

Biggest disappointment was Rachel asking the piano player for Maybe This Time and we don't get to hear Rachel sing Maybe This Time

I thought it was sort of inappropriate for Will to ask Finn if he wanted him to set them up with Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood doesn't only do abortions you know. Yes, it's a service they offer, but they also offer cheap and free prenatal care as well as other services related to reproductive health. I think it was a perfectly reasonable thing for Will to bring up.

Considering the apparent lack of real sex ed in the their "school system" it's probably the best thing Will could offer in terms of both their mental and physical health going into a teen pregnancy.

On topic of the episode - brilliant all around. I love this cast to the moon!

I would just like to volunteer as Kurt's personal fag hag for the rest of his life. I'd carry his Tiara anywhere. That is all.

Planned Parenthood also offers prenatal care. I'm not from Lima, but a similar Rustbelt working class city, and all the girls I knew who got pregnant in high school/college got their care at Planned Parenthood because it was cheaper than a regular OB/GYN.

The only problem I have with Quinn's pregnancy is that it allows for yet another "duplicitous woman and pregnancy" storyline. I find her situation very believable and I have more sympathy for her than for Teri, but I really don't want to see the machinations that they seem to be setting up.

It is dark and somewhat disturbing. What Quinn described as happening would definitely be called a dubious consent situation, if not straight out non-consensual. Puck doesn't deny she was drunk when they had sex, and since she is in the celibacy club, he did know how she felt about pre-marital sex. Although it is wrong of Quinn to pass the child off as Finn's, I can understand that she doesn't want to be tied to a guy who got her drunk and got her pregnant. She wants some security and care in her relationship. For Puck she was a one night stand, at least Finn has demonstrated some fondness for her. This is a fairly complex situation, and I feel compassion for Quinn. I hope that between Glee club and the rest of her life Quinn comes clean to Finn.

I just remembered, one of my favorite parts was when the two cheerleaders tried to help cover for Kurt in the beginning. It shows that they are becoming part of Glee club and they demonstrated some real affection for Kurt. Good for them.

This episode was PHENOMENAL! Dark humor, character development, twists, turns, Tina singing, just great stuff.

That's pretty much how I felt.

Since the team was on such a high for tying the score after the "Single Ladies" play, I thought that it was about 80% that Kurt's extra point was going to be blocked and returned for the game winning score by the opposing team. Glad to see that not everything about the show is predictable, although I did see Puck being the baby's father long before it was revealed. I can't wait to see Chenoweth next week since she was my favorite character on TV for the last two years.

I actually liked the idea of Quinn being pregnant. I know for a lot of people it appears to be too much of the pregnancy lie storyline, but both actually dove tail nicely. I can see how the TPTB want the story to go, Quinn will have the baby and give it to Terri who will try to pass it off as hers until somehow it comes out that its actually Quinn and Pucks. At least that's my bet right now. Also, a little of topic, but I just have to correct here, Planned Parenthood, doesn't just provide abortions, but also family planning, adoption services, and counseling. Maybe Will wasn't trying to set them up for an appointment for an abortion but for counseling
