» Worst Soap Opera Friendships.

We had a thread for the best, now this is for the worst friendships in daytime.

Jason Morgan/Carly Corinthos(General Hospital)-For me this is the worst and most dsyfunctional, friendship I have even seen on tv. I never saw any chemistry between SB and any of the Carly's. She is totally obsessive and possesive, of Jason and he put up with her crap. Jason most of the time seems put off and annoyed with Carly. She always seemed to want Jason, as more then a friend and I hate how, she treats the females on the show, who even look in Jason's direction. For me Carly ruined any rootablity Jason had.

Maxie Jones /Dameon Spinelli(General Hospital)-What started out as a cute friendship, turned into a godawful mess and destroyed the awesomeness of Maxie. I seen nothing at all likeable about Spinelli and if I hear one more time, how he is her esstintal person who Maxie would be nothing without, I will scream becuase it is unture and makes her look totally pathetic. Spinelli was the worst thing to happen to Maxie and I can only find her likeable away from him.

Kendal Heart and Greenlee Smith(All My Children)-I never liked their frienship, their was too much jelousy and compition for me to take their "friendship" seriously. AM and RB never had the chemistry or acting talents to be the classic, frienimies of the Dorian/Viki caliber. I think being stuck in the Kendel/Ryan orbit is what ruined Greenlee's character.

Sonny Corinthos/Jason Morgan(General Hospital)-This has been the relationship that most ruined Sonny and Jason's GH and makes GH so unwatchable. I hate the way Sonny treats Jason and I do not get any indication that Sonny, sees Jason as anymore then his lacky and Jason acts like Sonny's mindless slave, rather then his friend. Sonny has betrayed Jason time and time again, tryed to kill him and disowned him to many times for me. Jason is totally dead to me becuase of his friendships with these total assholes, who walk all over him.

You can say that again, Gigi...in fact, I will.

Bianca and Babe (AMC). Shudder!

It's too bad about Bianca and Babe. They started out nicely and Alexa Havins and Eden Riegel had good chemistry but then Babe kept Miranda from Bianca and I couldn't stand them together ever since.

Yes yes yes to most of these, but especially to Maxie/Spinelli. Ugh. He's just repulsive, and that is as a person, not because of his appearance. She is the biggest enabler in the world.

I also hate the Rex/Bo friendship on OLTL. It's all just endless Rex propping, as viewers are supposed to see Rex as a great guy because Rex likes him and he's the son Bo doesn't have (the son Bo actually does have is forgotten most of the time).

And while they are OK with decent writing, I often strongly dislike the Viki/David friendship on OLTL. It's usually about what a good person David thinks he is when he's around Viki, and about Dorian bashing.

I'm going to fourth Bianca and Babe--this thread was made for them. There is no possible way it could be worse. Game, Set, Match, McTrash truly broke the mold.

There's also Olivia and Jeffrey, GL. They're now confiding in each other and happily co-parenting the child Olivia had after Jeffrey raped her at 16 (sort of, as Ava's a young adult now and off canvas mostly). Granted the writing was incredibly screwed up and has included a couple major retcons that mucked up the story--apparently now we're supposed to believe Olivia was drunk but not too drunk to consent, despite the fact that she blacked out and it continued to be played as a rape. Still, it causes terrible cognitive dissonance to watch them being all supportive of one another now, which sucks, because they do make good confidants and have a lot in common if one ignores their past.

Carly/GH and air. That woman is incapable of having any friendships unless they involve her ego being stroked.

Oh, but what about Courtney and her snow globe? You know Carly misses her looking at it for hours! Those darn snow globes get you every time!

Robert and Luke, GH. In one storyline (and probably one line, "I was never a fan of monogomy"), these two went from being the best of soap buddies to changing history so that Luke became among the worst friends ever (gotta say, Babe probalby does have him beat)..

The worst friendships, to me, are the hero (or heroine)/sidekick and villain (or villainess)/cohort friendships. Mainly because the friendships all end up being more about the hero/heroine/villain/villainess and less about the sidekick/cohort. Not all of the ones I'm offering are examples of these (the ones the ones that aren't are marked with asterisks), but half of them are.

Kay and Simone from Passions. Simone was a character who had potential to branch out and do her own things, but she was stuck being the cohort to Kay's countless schemes to break up Miguel and Charity. Also, it doesn't help that while Simone was almost always there for Kay, Kay was almost never there for Simone.

Luis and Hank from Passions. After his introductory storyline, all Hank seemed to do was serve as a Luis or Luis/Sheridan prop.

Miguel and Reese from Passions. I did buy their friendship, but it seemed like Reese was more of a Miguel/Charity prop than he was his own character.

Grace and Eve from Passions*. While I enjoyed the friendship between their husbands, Sam and T.C., it was hard watching Grace and Eve be friends as the latter actively stood by and allowed the former's marriage get trashed by Ivy and her infamous David scheme just to save her own ass and keep her tawdry past from coming out. I just couldn't stomach it.

Belle and Mimi from DAYS*. Claire lie. Enough said.

Carly and Lily from ATWT*. Just didn't buy them becoming friends again so quickly after Carly slept with Lily's husband.

While this one ended ridiculously and took away all the good will Bianca had earned over the years so that Babe wouldn't go to prison for being the lying, cheating, felonious whore that she was, I still think Greenlee/Kendall is the worst friendship, ever, because once they became "best friends" it was all about how Kendall could help Greenlee while Greenlee stood in judgment of Kendall.

Unlike Babe, who was a good friend to Bianca initially and at least showed the occasional bout of guilt over being a lying, cheating, felonious whore, once it was established that Greenlee was Kendall's "best friend" she exposed Kendall's faked pregnancy to get her committeed of a murder she didn't commit, she married Ryan to keep him from marrying Kendall, she convinced Kendall to go with her to steal Ryan's precious sperm so she could have his baby, when it was discovered that Greenlee is too toxic a human to give birth, and when they thought Ryan was dead, she allowed Kendall to stupidly "prove her love" by carrying one of the Ryan/Greenlee embryos, only to accuse Kendall of trying to have her own Ryan baby once it was revealed that Kendall used her own egg, fled town for years leaving both the now undead Ryan and Kendall to deal with her selfishness, only to return and kidnap the baby she rejected years earlier and get into an accident that nearly killed the baby.

Then...after they throw Greenlee down another hole of redemption, she suddenly is absolved of all sins and turns on Kendall because in a moment of grief over losing her husband and "best friend" stupidly has sex with the "best friends" boyfriend. So Greenlee turns that into a reason for her to torment Kendall for the next few months about how much she and Zach bonded in that hole and how well she knows Zach, and how extra super awesome she is because she's Greenlee.

And I'm sure I'm missing about 150,000 shitty things Greenlee did to Kendall in the name of friendship, but whenever Kendall attempted to retaliate berated Kendall for being a lousy person and friend.

Nope, they can't change what was. That friendship was golden. For years. Even the Monkey Flu SL, which was awful, was partially redeemed by the chemistry and banter between Luke and Robert. One stupid retcon, especially when Robert isn't even onscreen, is not going to ruin that friendship. At least not for me.

However, I'll second the Carly/Courtney friendship, which was boring and made of smug. I can't wholly despise either Sonny/Jason or Carly/Jason, because there have been times in the history of both relationships when I've enjoyed them. In fact, I've been liking Carly/Jason lately, which is something of a shock.

Nicole/Chloe on Days

Nicole: Are you sure you don't hold the fact that I put a flesh eating bacteria on your face that scarred you irredeemably against me?
Chloe: No problem. You are such a joker, that's what I love about you. I'm sure you didn't really mean it.
