» Danny Gokey: Scream On

Guys, I'm assuming you're reading the other threads from the last AI season as well (and, BTW -- I don't know why this season's contestants are getting people so much more riled up than last year's -- but that's another story for another time).

If you're not -- then let me bring the same example I used in the Kris/Adam/Alison thread over here.

Danny is not going to be buying a billion dollar house on the beaches of Maui anytime soon. He's not going to be asking for change at Costco, either. Quit trying to shoehorn him into a "ultimate success" or "ultimate failure" scenario.

Also... I have very... very... very little patience for chart and spins minutiae. It's very "inside baseball" and all it does is bring us back to the "Danny's a success!"/"Danny's a failure!" argument again.

Love him, fine. Hate him, fine. Leave room to disagree with everyone else and be civil. Thanks.

I really hope they don't do an "inspirational" theme this year. But, then again, with Danny it's always "inspirational" night.

One of the advantages of the way they've arranged the schedule this year is that I haven't heard about Danny G. for a few weeks now. So I'm far less annoyed by him than I was before.

I'll just deal with him the way Jacob deals with Randy: "That guy on the show." He's here and I have to accept it, but I don't have to pay attention to him. I might change my mind if he breaks out of the inspirational box, but not before then.

Don't count on it...

"I get my strength from my faith in God. My goal is to be a Christian who does mainstream music. I want my music to reach out to the multitudes. I want to bring entertainment, but I want to bring encouragement and hope at the same time."

Source.

Encouragement and hope? Hurray.

EW: Who would you have given a wild-card slot to?
Danny Gokey: Jamar Rogers. Absolutely.

Okay, then, I hope my bottle of Dasani turns into a bottle of Kendall Jackson while I'm watching him. Otherwise I'll just think he's full of shit.

Despite the douchiness, I still like the guy. But I can tolerate all the harsh criticism because I sort of agree with them often. Yet I am still not off the Love Train. This is going to be a strange season.

The only thing that encourages me is the hope that Danny Gokey will be voted off the show ASAP.

I like him OK, and I like his vocals. I think he needs to not give interviews ever though.
It'll be interesting to see what happens the next time he sings. So far, he recieved twice as many votes as any other contestant according to DialIdol. Adam was second , a week later, with half the votes Danny recieved. Of course, the last time people voted for Danny, his brother-in-law hadn't held up that picture yet.

Ugh, ugh, ugh. We get it, everyone should love you because your wife died and you have a friend with a smidgen more talent and a lot less hubris. No one will think you forgot about them if you don't bring them up, directly or indirectly, anytime you can.

Danny Gokey: That's a hard question. I think you've just got to be wise. You don't want to offend people in the audience who had a former favorite. You don't want to out-show them. That's not right, I don't think.

This was his response to EW asking about singing songs previous contestants have performed. While I like Danny's raspy voice, this really annoyed me. "You don't want to out-show them?" I don't know if that was how he intended it, but it makes him sound incredibly cocky.

Don't worry, Danny, the likelihood of you "out-showing" oh, let's say, Bo Bice, Elliott Yamin, David Cook, or Chris Daughtry is pretty slim. Hell, you aren't even likely to outdo Chris Richardson or Anthony Federov. You just aren't as good as you think you are so lose the ego.

I'm hoping he spews more stuff about his late wife, then he'll get voted off the show. Seriously, I like this guy's voice, and I was a semi-fan when he first appeared, now all this exploitation and need to inspire the world is turning me off. A LOT. I don't need you to inspire me, I need you to frikking perform decently without pointing a stupid finger at me and telling me I can be a hero or what not.

I TOTALLY AGREE. What a shame - I actually liked his voice from his first audition, but the constant talking about the wife, the annoying inspirational crap, all of that has made him my least favourite contestant by a MILE. I can't wait until he gets voted off.
