» Castiel: The Angel Who Was Thursday

I wish I had never looked at his IMDB page. Because last night I was like "Oooh, pretty angel!" But then I read the IMDB page and realized he played Paul Bernardo in the movie Karla, about the Karla Homolka story up in Canada. He horrified me in that role, and now I'm just hoping that I can overcome that because I really liked him as Castiel.

Also, what a cool name, Castiel.

My first thought upon seeing the trench..."Dale Cooper! My world has been rocked!" Hehe.

Did ya'll hear the Latin being spoken when Castiel put the fingers on Bobby's head? Very cool.

And here we have the single most bad*** creature we've seen yet, and what does he do? He looks like he wants to give Dean a hug. He does not seem to want to punch Dean in the face at all.

Oh, that was both funny and wise. Thank you.

I just can't wait to see what Castiel does next. This is the way to introduce a character. Poor Bela stuck in a multitude of craws, but Castiel seems to be going down like Johnnie Walker Blue (or Phish Food, or pick your poison). If creating a compelling character were an easy, by-the-numbers exercise, the writers would do it every time. Instead it's some reason-defying alchemy of characterization, storyline, casting, and I-don't-know-what. What a joy when it works, though.

Please can we keep him?

Like MistressBlot said, that is how you introduce a character: make him creepy, weird and beautiful, and ensure he has incendiary chemistry with Jensen Ackles.

Was it just me who thought that when he said "This? This is a vessel" he was kinda proud of himself. Like, "I gave this devout man something beautiful, ain't it grand?" or something like that? (although if you ask me, the vessel was doing mighty fine by itself!)

There was a lot that was childlike in Collin's peformance, such as that adorable, "What's the matter?", and the way he stepped forward to Dean to say "Sometimes good things happen" as if he were waving a flag saying "and I'm one of them!".

He acted with his eyes a lot. I'm really conscious of how much I need to blink (shut up! It's almost a phobia!) so when I saw how much MC (yes, we're on initial terms now) didn't blink yet still expressed a myriad of things through his eyes, all in one shot, well colour me impressed. Plus, he was staring into JA's eyes...um, ok, I'm off to LJ now see you all later!

And I loved the way he brushed off Bobby, like a kid with a bug on their sleeve when they just gently blow them away instead of squishing them. He was basically, the opposite to every Demon we've seen so far on the show.

There wasn't a single new introduction in Season 3 that I was particularly interested in. (Maybe Rufus, but, whatever). I didn't want to see Tamara & Isaac back, Bela could have been saved if the writers hadn't been such assholes about her (seriously, Gordon, WTF?).

Ruby, well she better have a point somewhere along the line as I am getting sick of seeing poor Jared having to deal with these young lovelies who can't act their way out of a badly made paper bag that's been left in the rain with a giant neon 'Exit' sign flashing over a mouse-nibbled girl-shaped hole.

So yeah, if we must suffer the sins of the CW, can we please keep the angel?

ETA, As I said, I agree with MistressBlot, but I didn't make it clear that a character working needs the je-ne-sais-quoi (sp?) which no one can really predict. I bet Kripke & co were rubbing their hands together all "bwahahahahah" when they saw how JA & JP clicked on screen! And hopefully now, they're doing it again

Great casting - a character and actor with real presence. Really intrigued about what Castiel is going to do next.

Most of the time I roll my eyes when an angel turns up on a show, but this (if he is who he says he is) seemed different. Looking forward to seeing where this goes - and love the chemistry with Dean/JA!

Hahahaha. That description is awesome. Darth Vader handing out cookies. But it's strangely apt. It's like having the biggest, meanest, toughest dog in the yard be only nice to you while biting everyone else's arm off.

Castiel had the most most memorable line of the episode in my opinion "I'm the one who gripped you tight and raised you from perdition."

I actually thought it was ham-fisted and lame.

I thought it was rather creepy, actually.

I thought it was FILTHY. Although that might have less to do with Misha's delivery and more to do with my warped mind. In all seriousness, I thought it was a line that could have gone badly, but he totally sold it. It kinda looks awful on paper.

Wow, am I looking forward to next week. Lordy.

Okay, I've watched the ending (notice I didn't say the entire episode) at least 10 times. Move over Jensen Ackles, I have a new SPN crush.

Hee! And given the Star Wars references that were rife through the episode, maybe he should have said "I find your lack of faith disturbing" instead when talking about Dean's...well, lack of faith.

mmm...Phish Food. My particular poison of choice, probably too often.

I went into this episode completely unspoiled and was floored by Castiel. I CAN NOT wait to see where they take his character. His chemistry with Ackles is palpable. If only all casting was this well done!

I'm strangely obsessed with Dean and Castiel's interaction. It doesn't help that I just finished reading Good Omens for the fourth time last week and I'm totally thinking that they'll have a Crowley/Aziraphale-type dynamic so yeah, you best believe I'm excited for next week!

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one. Seriously, the dude's scene was only, like, five minutes long. I shouldn't be so obsessed with this character already.

Same here. Watching Dean and Castiel play off each other was fascinating because both actors brought all these mysterious undercurrents to the scene that have me panting erm, I mean eager to see how their relationship develops. In a totally non-slashy way of course. ;D

Of course madcap...of course (wink, wink). And there's absolutely nothing wrong with me finding the chemistry between these two men off the charts when I already have a wild attraction to one of said men (Dean). I swear if Castiel would have grabbed Dean's face and planted a kiss on him I wouldn't have been surprised. Yeah I'm warped and yeah...forgot...this isn't HBO ;o)

Gabbygal stop putting those thoughts in my head! I've already re-watched their scene so many times it's not funny. I just noticed that Castiel's puppy eyes beat Sam's.
