Small blurb from "Calendar", Los Angeles Times 11/9/08:

"A Major Reboot For HBO; HBO Decides It's Time to Get Busy."
Matea Gold

"I think we're more pregnant with talent and with ideas and with development than we've ever been in our history," said Richard Plepler, HBO's co-president. "It's not an exaggeration to say that we're as excited about the future of this place as we've been in a long time."

Part of that is due to the performance of "True Blood," the first new series that has performed strongly for HBO in quite a while. Since its premiere in September, the first five episodes of the Southern vampire drama have averaged 6.5 million viewers across a week, putting it on track to be HBO's third-most-watched series, after "The Sopranos" and "Sex and the City."

That's terrific news!

And HBO just green lit another fantasy pilot, based on George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Fire and Ice". So great to see the network extending itself to quality genre material.

That's great news! Thanks Tara Blue for typing out.

I am not familiar with HBO ratings, but third-most-watched series? of all time? Congratulations to AB and CH :)

That's surprising. I thought there were some seasons where Six Feet Under had higher ratings than the Sopranos.

Also in TV Guide there is blurb about Jace Everett. That ever since the show debuted there has been renewed intrest in his music. Apparently nobody bought the orginal album Bad Things is on so it's out of print. And the show using it has changed his life. He even jokes that maybe after the royalty checks come in he can afford to get HBO. Hee.

The new Entertainment Weekly (with Robert Downey Jr. on the cover) has True Blood on their Must List. Well actually it praises the supporting cast:Rutina Wesley, Nelsan Ellis, and Ryan Kwanten.

And they described Lafayette as a fangbanger, which to me says that no one amongst their staff is actively watching the show. More likely they just put it on the list in response to its growing popularity. I believe this is the first time they've even mentioned TB since giving the pilot a "C" review. As a longtime EW subscriber, I'm very disappointed in the lack of love they've been giving the show. Not that their support always helps grow an audience (Arrested Development, anyone?), but because we're being denied what would've made for some lovely covers (Twilight has garnered two already, for pete's sake). Very bad, EW. Very, very bad.

I like True Blood's "supporting characters" way more than the main characters. So I love the mention my two favs received from EW 10 Things We Love This Week:

True Blood Supporting Cast. Suck it vamps. Humans like combustible Tara (Rutina Wesley), "fangbanger" Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis), and himbo Jason (Ryan Kwanten) truly give the HBO series its bite.

At least some mainstream publication is showing the show, and its amazing supporting cast, some love.

Lafayette has mentioned a couple times that he's had sex with vampires, so I thought he was a fangbanger? Or do you have to let the vamps actually bite you to get that title?
