These crappy new plot twists have Wheelie's name all over them--has she taken more creative control or something?

Seems more like David Kreizman's work to me....

Although, the fact that she won't even play as accepting gayness in others is WAY worse than anything he was accused of.

Way, way worse. It's a level of intolerance that is a bit stunning and difficult to believe. I mean, even if we give her the benefit of the doubt and say it has nothing to do with her personal beliefs....is it REALLY so outlandish, so ridiculous, so offensive--so damaging to character integrity--to have a character who is Latina and Catholic be gay-friendly that it merits vehement protests on the actor's part????

Let's take a deep breath and wait for another source to confirm the story. For all we know, she was fired because they wanted to make Carlotta younger and sexier.

Color me confused - IIRC, Mauceri appeared in a very gay-positive film with Tuc Watkins and Alexis Arquette about 12 years ago called "I Think I Do." I can't imagine what happened between then and now that caused her to walk away rather than appear in a gay-positive storyline?

That is odd. Maybe it's a complete fabrication and there was an entirely different reason for her firing. Maybe idledandy is right and they wanted a younger, sexier Carlotta. Which I also find appalling, but there you go.

I find it hard to believe OLTL conspired to find a "younger, sexier" Carlotta when the character is recurring, barely seen, and the replacement is, I believe, only very slightly younger than PM if at all.

Really? I was under the impression that it was basically a JLH/EW joint venture at this point. I don't think DK's really allowed near Olivia's storyline, anyway (the wank about them getting CC to re-sign by giving her JLH is mighty convincing), and that's one of the big ones that's getting trashed. The whole, let's anvil and preview about Nat being preggo right after JL spent her 24924 month pregnancy trying to hide it struck me as particularly Wheelian, especially because she was just interviewing about surprising the audience. Frankly, I'd expect even worse from DK. Like, more rapemance and hero hitmen. What is DK doing these days? In my zeal to ignore him, I've lost track of exactly what he's supposed to be doing--is he still even technically co-HW?

It may be more that PM believes her character wouldn't be okay with two gays in love. Carlotta is a very stauch Catholic and probably wouldn't be okay with gays let alone two in love. The way I read the news article, it could have been taken either way.

This seems weird to me as well though. If PM cares thia much about character integrity, why hasn't she had just as much of an issue with some of the other things Carlotta has been okay with and supportive of in the past that wouldn't be in character for a staunch Catholic?

ETA: Some updated information from Daytime Confidential: they're hearing that the plan WAS for Carlotta to have initial problems with the Kyle/Fish pairing, but then change her tune and eventually become tolerant and supportive of the relationship.

Being such a stickler about her character being a homophobe when she isn't, so much so that she's willing to leave over it, does not make sense to me. I don't buy that. And given the character's longstanding Catholic beliefs, I also don't buy that she would leave over Carlotta initially being intolerant only to come around in the end. That's a classic GLBT story, even for soaps.

Evidently, the rumor is that as part of the story, Cris poses as gay or something which gets Carlotta involved.

I'm really holding out hope that this is an unfounded rumor. This does not sound at all like PM. Something is completely off about it.

I find it a bit hard to believe too. Hopefully this isn't the same kind of smear and shock that the situation with CE turned out to be in the end.

For some reason, this reminds me of AMC's gay storyline in the mid-90's, where teacher Micheal (Laurel's brother) came out of the closet. Although there were the standard politically correct responses from characters like Dixie, and politically INCORRECT reponses from Papa Santos, a staunch Catholic, one of the best things about the storyline was that the reactions were flipped around. Villains like Palmer and Adam could have cared less and only wanted to know if the guy was doing his job properly--Adam never once speculated that the man would be looking to advances to his nephew Scott, while typically nice characters like Opal and Trevor were flipping out.

So, they've spent all this time revisiting the Spring Fling of 1993. Are they going to try and revisit the Summer of Homophobia of 1992 now?
