Unfortunately Cook needed two great performances to stick around next week and he didn't do it. I think we are getting another shockboot tomorrow.

Wow, the lack of Brooke made for a really, really good show.

Syesha totally bought herself a ticket to next week, and if that was acting - then bravo on her. Smart. She will however be plowed over by the David/David steamroller next week.

I was thinking that Cook would be in trouble this week, but that bit at the end about Daughtry that Ryan threw in must have energized his fans because he and Archuleta are pretty much tied for first on DI.

I was also worried that they might have riled up Jason's fans by being so negative, but it's looking like he'll finally be gone. Hallelujah! (snerk)

1st Round:

1. Archuleta
2. Syesha
3. Cook
4. Jason

2nd Round:

1. Cook
2. Syesha
3. Archuleta (though these are all really close)
4. Jason

Overall:

1. Archuleta
2. Cook
3. Syesha (The top three were really fantastic)

4. Jason

Oh, Jason. How much do you suck? Let me count the ways. . . this'll take awhile.

Feeling depressed that Jason, who all season never forgot words, forgot some on the Dylan song. Also depressed at the outright hate and indignation shown to him by all three judges. Was it because of the EW article? Was it because of all the backlash from Paulagate? Even as I am voting, I don't want him put through that again. I want him to have a fantastic sing-out tomorrow, leaving a wonderful impression behind as his exit video shows all the awesome moments. I want him to perform well on all the shows they go on post-Idol.
I knew he was gone when Syesha did the Kat McPhee hip-shakin', and cried after the second song. Poor Jason. Guys don't get to do that kind of stuff for votes.
Well, I have really enjoyed him, and look forward to the finale to see him again.

I hate them all. The judges, TPTB, the blatant manipulation, the songs, the contestants, everything. I'm a die-hard Cook fan, but for the love of god, at least try to look like you're enjoying yourself up there! Please? Syesha was awesome but she ruined it by being completely shameless and disgusting. Yes, being on American Idol is exactly like the civil rights movement, except for the part where you're fighting to make the world a better place. I am so done with Jason. Loved him from Hallelujah/SotR, felt sorry for him because he was obviously being bus-thrown, but he's been rotten three weeks running now. He should have laid it down tonight, and he flubbed the lyrics instead. Our Godking Archuleta is boring and overpraised and I can't hate him because he's adorable, but I can hate his voice, his songs, his face, his dad, and Randy. Jesus Christ, can this show get any worse? Can we just boot off Syesha, Jason and Our Godking Archuleta and bring back Carly and Michael Johns for the top 3?

Well said, and I totally agree. The whole thing nauseated me. And Syesha comparing AI to the civil rights movement? I don't remember any of the downtrodden whoring themselves out to stay downtrodden, which is what you're doing honey.

Just as I was getting into Baba O’Reilly it ended. That better be the Studio Version this week.

Brilliant post!

There just seems to be such resignation in these performances. I used to think that painful pretty much ended with the auditions. Not anymore.

Just wanted to agree with the poster upthread. I have a horrible feeling Cookie is going tommorrow night. He wasn't pulverized by the judges (Jason). Didn't cry. (Syesha) And didn't have OTT praise from the trio. (Lil' Davey).

I hope I'm wrong.

Archie was my absolute favourite of the night. I loved his vocals on both songs, gorgeous. He looked very relaxed and was dressed like a 17 year old which makes a nice change.

I really enjoyed Jason's version of 'I Shot the Sheriff', but it was a weird choice for Top 4 night. He sounded very nice and interesting doing it though. On 'Tambourine Man' I thought losing the lyric took him out of the song a bit but he recovered nicely. I didn't hate it, but it was a crappy song choice and half-assed performance. I guess he has had enough of this crapola.

Syesha was back in full fakery and took on Brooke's babbling to boot. Her first performance was energetic but just okay for me. Her second performance was heartfelt, but a bit too sharp and jerky for me. Still I was going to let it slide, and then she went and compared the AI lot to Selma, AL. Die cow, die.

Cookie. I really didn't care in the slightest. I thought he would have been able to do so much more this week. He just seems burned out.

Let me start by saying that before the show started I turned to my mother and said "If they massacre anymore Beatles songs my shoe is going through our television"...Thank you show. My TV is still in tact. Moving on.

David Cook -
Hungry Like the Wolf - I was pretty "eh" on this. This is one of my guilty pleasure songs so I would have really liked to see him do something spectacular with it.
Baba O'Reilly - My initial reaction was "uh-oh", hands down this is my absolute favorite Who song ever (typical I know). And while I thought the vocal was really good this is not a song you can do in a minute and a half - simply missing the intro kills the song, it needs the time to build into it's fabulousness. I'm curious to hear a studio version.

Syesha Mercado - I liked the second song a lot more then the first song, but I didn't hate either. She inspires no real opinion in me personally. I can honestly barely remember the second song that got all the praise and while I thought she was better then Beyonce at the Grammy's on Proud Mary she wasn't even near Tina-level performance.

Jason Castro -
I Shot the Sheriff - First off, I prefer the Clapton version of this song. That being said as much as I like Jason I had to agree with the judges. It's not a song to go trying to get creative on. He could have killed this, instead he just kind of murdered it.
Mr. Tambourine Man - I didn't have any problem with this other then the line-flubs. It's a Bob Dylan song therefore it's brilliant and it suits Jason's voice perfectly. Dylan isn't exactly the most stellar vocalist himself.
I think Jason cares about the competition...but at the same time could go home and not really be all that effected by it. He knows what he can do and that he'll be doing it down the road soon.

Puppies & Rainbows/David Archuleta -
Stand By Me - I hated this. Hated. Hated. This. Whenever I hear this song I picture River Pheonix, Wil Wheaton, Corey Feldman and Jerry O'Connell walking through a forest and I hear Ben E. King. Now I'm going to hear crazy runs and screwed up melodies. Thank you Archie. Thank you.
Love Me Tender - Despite all the rage at the first song choice - I didn't hate this. I also didn't really enjoy this. It's a pretty Elvis song and it fullfilled his quota for getting the tweens to swoon. I couldn't hate it because it felt too much like sing by numbers.

Overall tonight disappointed me. I know we don't see the whole list they get to pick from - but even 50 songs from the list of 500 most influential songs in the rock and roll hall of fame HAS to have better songs then these eight.

I really, really don't think Syesha was intending to make a "my plight on AI is as significant as the civil rights movement" type of statement. I think she was just making a point that the meaning of the song moved her, and the message felt applicable to her personally at this stage of the game. Nothing wrong with that, IMO.

On the other hand, I do not know how authentic her tears were, but she's smart to play the game like that if they were fake.

All I can say after the disgusting display tonight of favoritism towards the mediocrity that is David A. - good luck trying to market and make money off of that kid, American Idol. (Not to mention good luck dealing with his father.) All the teeny boppers may buy up his American Idol coronation single, but they will quickly forget about him before the album comes out. And I shudder to think of a David A. album - song after song of unrelenting sameness and heavy breathing. Why they are pimping him for the win is beyond me. You think they would have learned after how, relatively, poorly Jordan Sparks has done. If they had any sense at all after seeing how well Daughtry has done in record sales, they would be firmly behind David Cook.
This franchise desperately needs a winner that will provide huge sales numbers to remain at all relevant. They've been in a drought since Carrie.
You've made your bed Randy,Simon, Paula - now lie in it.

Although I'm thrilled to finally hear Duran Duran on AI, they have never been inducted into the Hall of Fame. (But they should be!)

Did anyone notice that David Cook completely flubbed the lines to "Hungry Like the Wolf?"

Yup! I did. He covered pretty well though. It was a good section to forget the words, that part is usually all mumbled anyway. And I say this as a hardcore Duranie, DD tattoo and all.

This show was simply a hot buttered mess tonight.

And Jason needs to be arrested for what he did to I Shot the Sheriff.

But I hope he stays. He amuses me.

While Syesha's civil rights metaphor was kinda tacky, I have less of a problem with it than I did with Carly comparing "Blackbird" to her plight on the show. That being said, I liked both of Syesha's performances & it will be a shame if she leaves tomorrow when we have:

JASON. He stunk, as usual. I could care less about him forgetting lyrics, because that seems to be the thing to do this season. He is simply awful. And get this, there is no "bus" he is being thrown under. He's just shitty.

As for Archie, I thought both of his songs were OK, nothing major, or droolworthy, Randy... he needs to calm down with that tonguebathing. Paging Chris Hansen!

And now for Cookie- HLTW was OK, maybe crawling on the floor would have helped a little. I liked Baba more, but it was too short- & where were the sweet keyboards?!?

If anybody but Jason leaves, I'm burning this mother DOWN!

In a word: woof. Mind you, I was watching the Dancing W/ The Stars recap so I missed a good chunk, but I DETESTED Archie's first song and simply bored by the second. Cookie's second song was much too short and Jason? I know it's easy to mumble along to a Bob Dylan song but unless you are sabotaging yourself and passing that off as being stoned, that was pretty ill timed. Au revoir Jar Jar.

Didn't see Syesha, but if she's comparing this to the civil rights movement, then Dr King must be spinning in his grave.
